The Camel is a charming Victorian pub with floral wallpaper, great vibes, a delightful pie and mash menu, and a solid beer selection, perfect for a cozy afternoon.
"One of Bethnal Green’s most beloved boozers, The Camel is an all-seasons pub for all types of situations. Whether it’s a warm August day with people spilling out onto the pavement, or a brisk November evening hunkering down inside with a chicken and leek pie, The Camel ticks the boxes of a romanticised east London pub (that very much exists in reality). The pies, proper things with pastry sides and bottoms—not just the lid—are very good too. And there are options for vegetarian and vegan diets too. Gravy, of course, is a given." - jake missing, tome morrissy swan
"Aside from sounding like a particularly useless footballer’s nickname, The Camel is also a fantastic little pub in Bethnal Green serving lovely pies from Pieminister. These are proper, whole pies, fully dressed with not just a lid but a bottom and sides too. The extensive fillings range from chicken, smoked bacon, and tarragon, to Somerset goats’ cheese, sweet potato, spinach, and red onion pie. All come with mash, peas, and gravy, and all are delicious." - jake missing
"Outside Seating: Yes One of Bethnal Green’s most beloved boozers, The Camel is all all-seasons pub for all types of people. The menu is pretty straightforward: pies. And sure, that might not be your summer dinner of choice, but these are very good pies. Especially at a discount, and a table with cold pint on it outside." - jake missing
