On the Grid : The Candy Bar

"It’s as exciting a store for an adult as it is for a kid. Wall to wall candy from all over the world, and all high quality stuff. Bursting with colour and a very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful shop owner, it’s not hard to be pleasantly overwhelmed at The Candy Bar. (And also leave with a bag of candy that will surely give you a sugar hangover.) British candies abound here, and you’ll find pretty much everything: designer chocolate, bonbons, liquorice, crisps, lollies, gum, and soft drinks. Great to grab something for when you’re in a bad mood, a good mood, or to gift someone. Must eats: Baratti e Milano chocolate, Walkers crisps, Sky Bars." - Sid Lee

I went in looking for some type of coffee chocolate and the bar I bought was really good. I would come back for it. I’m sure anyone can find something they like here as there is so much variety in this little store. Only negative thing is that the lady working there was a bit cold. It just seems like she’s annoyed when you ask normal questions

Walked by and discovered an amazing collection of vegan and gluten free candy and treats! The owner is so friendly and knowledgeable, and gave me a sample. They also have special chocolates and flavoured kulfi in the back. This spot is popular on tiktok. Of course it's much more expensive than your average candy but worth the experience!

Google
A candy store located in westend. They are selling a lot of different kinds of candy, sweets and chocolates. One thing i think it is special to me is they sell a lot of different brands of vegan gummies. I found one of my favorite one there and then just kept going back and buy more. The store is small, can only carry 5-6 people at a time inside the store. You can also buy a mix candy bag and choose gummies by yourself but you cannot mix it by yourself. The staff there would help you to mix. Pets are not allowed in this store. You would love visiting here if you love sweets, especially gummies.

I was excited to discover Taffy Town in this beautiful store. However, I want to express some frustration regarding the self-service system—or the lack thereof. I wasn’t able to use the grabbers (I'm not sure what they’re called) to fill my own bags, which I found quite strange, as it differs from the typical business model I’m used to. While the staff member was extremely friendly and responsive, I believe that if I had been able to choose the size and flavors of my portions myself, without needing to ask for everything, I would have been much happier and likely would have purchased more. I intended to buy at least 0.5 kg or more of taffy, but in the end, I ended up with just a small portion and a feeling that my visit was wasted—at least this time.

What a fun store full of the most delightful delicious treats. Paola is very knowledgeable and has great suggestions to help quench your sweet cravings! My girls enjoyed the UK offerings and the individual pick candies! I sampled some delicious lemon taffy from different parts of the world. If you have a huge sweet tooth like mine this place is the perfect place to spend some time!!

Probably one of the easiest buying experiences I’ve ever had. Contacted Paola to put together a last minute birthday basket on a Friday morning, by Friday afternoon it was already delivered. She asked a few questions and put together a customized basket. 10/10 will definitely be ordering again.

Google
I like that this store has a lot of candy and chocolate that are hard to find elsewhere in Toronto. The prices are reasonable. The interior decor is very cute. The only thing I dislike is that my friends and I were not allowed to use the scoops in the store to scoop out the bulk candy into bags. The staff insisted on doing it for us which took a long time and he added more candy than I wanted to buy. It would've been nice if we were allowed to scoop the candy ourselves like in Bulk Barn but since the staff has to do it, it gives off the impression that they don't trust their customers, which isn't a nice feeling.

Google
They had the piggies candy I grew up with and they were lower priced than other stores. The Candy arrived in a week and it was worth the wait. Candy was soft, not stale and came in a nice package. Will shop again and definitely recommend this Candy store.

Yelp
WOW!!!! We found out about The Candy Bar while reading The Annex magazine and stopped by to grab some candy to get ready for a movie night. I was literally a kid in a candy shop. I was so blown away by all the different candies and treats they had! The selection is incredible. The most impressive of all is the shop owner, Paula. Not only is she kind and friendly, but she took the time to get to know us, share information about the neighbourhood, and tell us more about her store. The chocolate selection is unparalleled. We were walked through each type of chocolate, where it's produced, and a little backstory about each bar available. I was blown away with Paula's knowledge and you can really tell she is passionate about the products she carries. We grabbed a mix. One of the bean to bar chocolate bars, a lion chocolate bar, and a mixed back of candy. They scoop for you and I wanted to try a mix so I left it up to the pros and I'm so glad I did. Everything was delicious :)

Yelp
Candy fresh, selection amazing, service friendly and warm and knowledgeable. You don't get to pick your own bulk candy , which is a little annoying but overall better for everyone's health and safety. I adore their candies and find the prices fair.

Yelp
I discovered the shop via the app Too Good to Go. I purchased my first bag without issue and made additional high-value purchases while in the store. During the second purchase, I was delayed by construction on College Street and called the store, which was still open, to say I would be late and missed the 30 minute pick up window. While I still made my planned high-value additional purchase, the owner/operator did not honour the Too Good to Go purchase, but either did Too Good to Go. As a result, I've deleted the app and won't be going back to the Candy Bar. We live in an era where flexibility and good customer-shop relations are at the top of the list and when shop owners are inflexible, customers can't be flexible or generous. It's really too bad.

Yelp
I got a custom made basket for a priest at our church who retired. It was tailored to his likes and made suitable for sharing with the family and grandkids. We had a budget set aside and and the store did a great job to give the best value for the money.

Yelp
Easter2020 was a strange one for everyone in the a World and luckily I found Paola at The Candy Bar - she was incredible! I phoned from Victoria BC and asked for her help in making an Easter basket for my son and his girlfriend stuck in their tiny apartment under quarantine in Toronto. Not only was Paola, the owner, so sweet to deal with but she also made up the most beautiful basket of nut free sweets and chocolate for delivery! The 'kids' LOVED it!! It really made their Easter! The next time I visit Toronto I will definitely be stopping in! Thank so much Paola!!

Yelp
Amazing place and owner! No sad, stale candies here. My first visit and I was hooked. I mentioned that I had never tried bon-bons and didn't think they would taste good. The owner insisted I try one and now I am a huge fan. I really, really like that she knows her her stuff and the store is so nice looking. I have since introduced two friends to her shop and they were so happy to find delicious candies from their own countries. If you are a candy nut this is a must visit in Toronto!

Yelp
Cute little place on College. Wandered in on a sunny day over the long weekend. I'd already eaten my weight in sugar so was able to stop myself from buying anything, but I can't guarantee I'd have the same self control if even the slightest bit peckish. The shop itself is bright welcoming despite its small size. There isn't a huge volume of stock, but it's a nice mix of fancy bars of chocolate that you might not have seen before, UK chocolate and biscuits and bulk candy. A freezer had some very tempting ice creams and ice cream sandwiches. Loved that they also had some samples out! I got to nibble a very tasty morsel of a Dutch dark chocolate. Would definitely consider buying it. Service was super friendly! Beaming smiles but without being pushy. If I walk there, I'm allowed to eat the chocolate, right?

Yelp
Amazing place and great assortment of Candy found no where else. The owner is also very friendly and the place is nicely decorated, definitely worth checking out. I visited Europe last summer and found a random candy shop that sold specialty candies fell in love with them but couldnt find them anywhere in Toronto until I came here.

Yelp
Perfectly curated candy shop. Great selection of packaged candy/chocolate, bulk treats, and stuff imported from the UK too. One of the best selections of chocolate bars on the west end of the city. Owner is so enthusiastic about candy, it's hard not to enjoy your experience.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Such a unique idea and with amazing attention to details. I've been going there since it opened, and every time I'm warmly greeted. The woman who owns the store loves her product and remembers you every time you come in. She's so knowledgeable about the products! She also puts samples out, and lets you try certain candies you are unsure about. There's everything from speciality chocolates, old favourites (fuzzy peaches, skittles etc), to foreign candy. The back wall is lined with bulk bins where you can pick and choose between these. Plus everything is so fresh! Unlike Bulk Barn, where you run the risk of getting stale candy! The best part? She takes suggestions! My boyfriend's family is English and would send him these chocolates called "Penguins". He mentioned this to her, and how much he loved them. A couple of weeks later we head back over and she had them in. I've never had such great customer service before. Check this unique place out and try the toffee bonbons!!

Yelp
Very welcoming and nicely designed store. Great world and locally sourced chocolate, as well as inexpensive and yummy penny candy, Dutch liquorice and UK products as well. Cool, friendly and glamourous owner her name is Paola.

Yelp
Just visited this place yesterday while I was on my way to the laundromat in my neighbourhood, and learned that it had just opened a week ago. Well, it's pretty much like Tutti Frutti...candies, gummies, by weight, delicious chocolates, jellybeans, the whole shabang. I spoke to the owner, Paula, who said she has lived in the neighbourhood for 20 years, and always wanted to be her own boss, so she finally opened a candy store! What a neat idea!! They import chocolates from Britain, and other countries. I bought Maltesers FROM THE UK, and they taste NOTHING like the maltesers we have here in North America. Far more delicious, rich, and pure. I also got the original Cadbury dark chocolate bar(British). And some raspberry chocolate, which was divine. If you live in the neighbourhood, I highly recommend paying the Candy bar a visit!

Yelp
I came into this store looking for candy for my wedding centerpieces. Paola turned out to have a LOT of experience in weddings. She wrote down my information and wedding details even though I only bought a couple pieces of candy that day. When I followed up later asking for a big batch of flower gumballs (assembled by hand in the store) expecting to pick them up the next week, she said I could just come the next day! I am thoroughly impressed with how friendly and professional Paola is and will definitely return for other events.

Yelp
As other reviewers have mentioned, the owner is so sweet and is therefore extremely well-suited to own a candy shop. There are daily samples available and the owner also mentioned she would be happy to let you try something if you asked. Lots of lovely chocolates and candies on offer (e.g. Soma, ChocoSol, Vosges, Giddy Yoyo, Stubbe, bulk gummies, etc.), ranging in price from cheap to quite expensive. A little something for everyone, and a nice place to pick up something new. After a painful decision making process, I finally settled on a divine ChocoSol coconut bar that is vegan and local. Looking forward to returning and trying out some new treats!

Yelp
Fantastic! The owner is so friendly and accommodating. It is a small space but i still found the choices of chocolate impressive and a fun choice of other candies as well.

Yelp
The most dangerous bar in the city... If you don't want to be tempted by the best candy selection in the city. There is always something new to try and the beautifully packaged treats are great hostess gifts!

Yelp
I contacted Paola at the Candy Bar as I needed a special treat, 100 to be exact, done quickly for my company's hardworking staff during busy season. I contacted Paola on a Wednesday and ordered 100 pink 'n' green retro candy cones to be delivered on the Friday (2 days later!!) and not only did she send me a mock up so I could show my managers, but she and her amazing staff created 100 candy cones in 24 hours and stayed within my budget! They were beautiful and very much enjoyed by our staff!! She also sent me a little treat as a thank you, yummmmmm!!! Paola's customer service was bar-none! I would highly recommend The Candy Bar and Paola to anyone! Bravo!!! Well done!

Yelp
Amazing and unique place, has loads of chocolates and candy you won't find in regular candy stores. The owner provides delightfully friendly service. I will definitely be back.
