Went up to Sonora to explore with our kiddos. Brought them to the candy store for a fun experience picking candy. To only have my Mexican husband be profiled by the owner. Not a positive experience for my family at all! And I was out money spent on extremely overpriced candy.

The Candy Vault, a place for nostalgia! Whether you visit to just look/admire or to purchase from their HUGE variety of candies/treats definitely check it out...everything from candy cigarettes to wax candies, lots of chocolate and ice cream. Some have stated the staff were mean, I/we didn't find that to be the case. There's even an actual bank vault inside the store, which house's the Willy Wonka section. Give them a try

They have the best candy collection and a variety of interesting items for sale. The owners are very friendly.

So we went there for ice cream and that was very good. However I bought a sea salt caramel and it turned out to be totally stale. Threw most of it away. I also noticed some chocolate candy under the counter that was infact showing that whitish appearance that stale chocolate gets. I asked for the dark chocolate version of my candy and the guy said it was but it certainly didn't taste like it. It tasted like milk chocolate. So im only giving 3 stars for the ice cream. No more stale chocolate for me thank you.

Awesome candyshop with bad the name suggests a giant vault turned into a world of pure imagination. The man working was hilarious as we discussed favorite sodas and ice cream(which y'all have to try the floats). Definitely will be back when I'm in town

Such a quaint little store. They have a variety of chocolate, candy, and ice cream too, but I didn't try the ice cream. There is an old bank vault inside where they keep more candy and continuously run Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Nice place to stop for a little treat!

Great experience, they have Harry Potter themed candy and an actual candy vault inside the store. Plenty of joke candy too. And they have Faygo!

Absolutely love this place. The homemade dry ice candy is freaking amazing. Who knew? Ice cream is super tasty, and the owners/workers are always extremely friendly. My kids love a visit and when family or friends from out of town come to visit, the Candy Vault is always top of the list of things to do. Love ya Steven and fam-a-lam.

The Candy Vault is under new ownership and they are back better than ever! The customer service was wonderful and they have a great selection of candy. I love candy but I usually can't eat a whole bunch, so I love that they have little bags you can fill with all the different candies you'd like to try rather than having to buy whole bags of one candy. Love their Christmas decorations too. It's a must go especially if you have kiddos! Brings back some of the magic of childhood.

This is such an adorable candy store in a fun historic area of Sonora. I can't wait for this business to reopen under its new ownership! Nov 2025 Let's embrace the new and improved management!

Such a cute and fun candy shop with tons of interesting and old school candies. The willy wonka room is so cool! Took two little where that loved picking out items. We were in town for a wedding and this was a quick easy stop on a Sunday morning when they opened on the Main Street. Definitely worth a visit for some nostalgia as well as sweets!

I never thought I would go back but I was wrong, the arcade is so fun and the business really seems to have changed. We had a wonderful re-do experience and are glad to shop a local small business again :)

This place is pretty vintage as we walked in a lot of the candy was out of stock so not much of variety to pick from. My daughter did get a scoop of cookies and cream and to her taste it was amazing tasted freshly. The service was okay not invite full kind of like blah the service could have been more fun and exciting just didn't feel that. The vibe was pretty quiet and chill and like I mention not a lot of items were not stocked so we weren't in the store for too long.

We will never go into Candy Vault again after the way the "man" treated my family.. took our 8-year old son and his friend today after spending $40 in the arcade went over to to candy part of the store and my son accidentally let SIX JELLY BEANS fall to the ground and quickly picked them up and put them in a pail. The "man" once we tried to check out (4 candies and 3 ice creams) he told us he was charging us for the six jelly beans that dropped too! On the receipt he claims the jelly beans were $4.16. My kids were excited for the candy so we said forget the ice cream and he refunded us for that. It's crazy to own a candy store and not to expect to account for "spillage" in your business plan. Never again will we go there!

I used to love this candy store (and have spent plenty of money in here in the past) but when we came in today there wasn't much candy. My four year old picked something and i found something for my husband and other child. At the counter the man was very rude to me because i (politely) asked if they were closing, because that's what it looked like with the store half empty. I left the candy and walked out despite my kid crying for her candy, because I'm not giving that man my business.

PEEPING TOM do not take your children here. The owner/wife sent me to the fitting room. I then caught her husband looking at me! The lady started shaking and screaming at me and my kids when confronted. The husband just let her take all the heat until my husband went back in to take photos. These people are mean mean mean!

Owners are rude the bald guy and the laptop lady. He makes smarty remarks and makes it a very unpleasant experience! Will not be returning. Will also stop referring people to go there when they visit!

Looks like they have some nice selections in here but I never got to actually purchase or try any of it. The service was simply not there.... We waited to be helped for about 10 minutes with no greeting from the employees and no acknowledgment whatsoever. We realized they were busy and short staffed...and waited giving them the benefit of the doubt that we would be helped soon enough...but then when the gentlemen behind the counter finally looked up at us and the other waiting customers...he was flat, not welcoming, and didn't seem to care that we were there. We left without getting anything.

I used to go monthly on our way through town, but as they no longer offer bulk candy (only pre-packaged) the novelty is gone. You used you be able to pick 5 of these, 5 of those and 5 of the other. Now you get a bag of 15 of the same thing at a pretty significant price increase. The end of their 'pick and mix' means you might as well order your 'bags of single type candy' from Amazon. Ice cream and chocolates continue to be fine if that's why you're going.

We just came here for ice cream. My son had butterfinger and I gotta say it's the best ice cream! I got birthday cake and it was good too... & kinda what you'd expect. Prices are reasonable and while we got the small, I thought the proportions were pretty big. I was pleasantly surprised with that. Folk working there were semi friendly.

Cute little place. Full of all kinds of candy and ice cream. The girls working here were super friendly. Place was clean and touristy.

I really like the ice cream. We've been here a few times and the portions are generous. Friendly service.

I promised my Grandkids I would stop here today on our way home after a few days in Tuolumne and, they are supposed to be open at 12 but, we waited till 12:30 and gave up (2nd time this has happened but, never again!). Sad way to run a business. There were at least 10 other customers waiting outside but, they all left too!

They dragged their feet on providing service and were condescending for asking simple questions. The owners were both very rude. The bald guy is also creepy.

I have some family that lives in Sonora and they always talk about how much they love the candy vault. This was my first time going and the guy behind the counter was so rude and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. He made very smart remarks to us and even threw away one of the ice creams he had given to us because it wasn't the right ice cream we had asked for so instead of letting us keep it or letting us buy it he simply asked for it back and threw it away in the trash with a smart remark. I will not be going back here.

Stopped by today with my husband for ice cream and maybe some candy. We walked through the store, zero other customers, and sadly most of the candy was out of stock. The one older man working behind the counter never greeted us when we walked in or acknowledged us, even after standing at the ice cream counter for five minutes. The man was too busy chatting up a young underaged girl who came in behind us. Clearly was more interested in a kid than a pair of adults willing to spend money.

We were nearby for the Polar Express train ride and wanted to check out the neighboring areas. As we were driving through the old part of Sonora (downtown?) we noticed a candy store with an open parking spot out front. It was an omen! Inside we went and what a delightful place it was! All kinds of candies...current day brands, treats reminiscent of yesteryear, hand crafted chocolates, all kinds of jellies, and even carmel apples. And the nicest storekeepers. Oh, and even a candy "vault"! Yes, the building was actually a bank back in the day. They even let my grandson close and reopen the vault door. Be sure to put The Candy Vault on your must see list when visiting Sonora, Jamestown or Columbia State Park!

I really do think place is cool, but way overpriced and they need to check inventory once in awhile. You overpay for something then get home and find it old,stale and taste awful makes it hard to speak kindly of them.

We were pretty disappointed. They were out of a lot of things and very low on the rest. A whole different experience years ago when I went there. Also, the girl at the register was almost robotic. This is a candy store where a lot of kids come. You need someone in there more upbeat!

Don't take your kids here!! The owners and employees are rude and disrespectful! If you want a candy store I would recommend candy kitchen it locally owned and they treat you with respect! And there candy is hand made!

I always stop here when in Sonora. Love it! Today was a bit odd though. The young man got upset with my 7 year old granddaughter. She put candy on the counter and was waiting for Mom to pay. He asked her to remove it. We were the only ones in there. It was just strange, kind of a ride guy with no customer service skills. We always had great service here before, even been sold a few items. We will come back, just hopefully the guy isn't working than. 2:45 pm on July 7th

Neat store with lots of variety of candies. Its like your in candy heaven! It brings back childhood memories after seeing candies that you used to enjoy when you're young. Prices are decent but you kinda expect it when you go to a touristy town. We end up getting couple of old school gums and ice cream. I gave this place just 2 stars because the guy behind the counter is not so friendly or whatsoever. You would've thought people works on a candy store would be perky and friendly or something, but he is not. Granted its a Sunday maybe he just didn't want to work or open the store. (I don't know.) But my husband felt the same way. For me thats a bummer. The ice cream is just ok. But don't make this review discourage you to go. Just go check it out and enjoy different types of candy and stuff. Who knows maybe that guy was just having a bad day.

We stop in every time we're in Sonora and get the kids some treats. Today our middle child was having a tough day.. Steve (I believe he's the owner) went above and beyond to brighten our child's day. This place has an awesome selection of candy and vintage candies.. I highly recommend you check this place out if you're in town!

Friendly and very helpful staff. The candy selection was awesome. It reminds me of when I was a young boy. It brought back a lot of fun memories.

I got accused of stealing for taking a picture of something in the store. I was the only Mexican person in the store and got kicked out. I was completely humiliated by these two workers. I have more than enough money to buy every candy in that store and they have no empathy towards anyone. I got no apology for the false accusation, instead I got kicked out. This is a bad place and to think I've been going to that store since I was 8. I will not be recommending or going to that store ever again.

Decent variety but the low rating is for the quality of service and lack of customer appreciation. Kyle was very apathetic and dismissive towards our presence, such that I decided not to buy the chocolate truffle box I had selected and only got the kids candies - and that was only because the kids were with me. NOT kid friendly. In fact, Kyle never cared to apologize or try and make the sale. I noticed that he was just as abrasive and apathetic towards the other customers and in fact was not even appreciative of how much we were getting on a slow day. Will not be back ever. On my black list of shops.

Today I went in for an ice cream and the woman behind the counter looked at me and put her head down to look at a laptop. The apparent owner walked right by me twice and ignored the fact that his counter help was incompetent and never said a word to me or her. I sarcastically thanked them for their lousy service and walked out. The counter girl just gave me a dirty look. Please don't bother the staff at Candy Vault, Sonora.

We stopped in here for coffee and the coffee was not very good. It's made from a Keurig, and it was very watery. I understand this is a candy store and not a coffee shop, but the coffee wasn't worth the money. The chocolates they had looked really good and they have all kinds of candy, but the prices are a bit high.

Candygasm... I was a (fat) kid in a candy store...Wah-wah-wah! This has been said by everyone! But, sadly, it's true. Every kind of candy lines the left hand side of the interior wall, along with barrels on barrels of wrapped candy. Not to mention a chocolate case full of the fancy stuff, and Dryer's ice cream too. The nostalgia and memories a place like this has is indisputable. According to Pops, who I think even referenced Yelp, said this was the "hot spot" in Sonora. Located centrally on the downtown drag, this lovely haven of sugar sits perfectly. Old time flair, with a hint of nostalgia. Tons of candies that remind you of your childhood. Be careful, the nostalgia and candy coma you will be in will inhibit your ability to think like a baller-on-a-budget. Most things are paid by bulk pricing, which doesn't come cheap. They even have a vault, to consummate their name, that continually plays Willy Wonka and has various paraphernalia from the movie. To go along with the theme, they also have movie size candy stocked in here (for sale), it was a cute touch! They cover the 5 S's - sour, sweet, salty, sugary, and savory! I don't think many people leave here without buying something..that would be sacrilegious. Mixing nostalgia and a sugar high make for fat kid crack!

The store is pretty fun for kids. We spent a about $20 of candy, the toffee was a disappointment. It's more white than it was a caramel color...where'd all the butter go?! Quality just isn't there, but basic candies such as Pop Rocks etc are fine.

What a great addition to downtown Sonora the Candy Vault, its alive with every type of candy one can dream of. Scenes of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Its a destination in historic Sonora at Washigton & Bradford that will fill that sweet tooth or a gift for someone special.

Loved this place! The service was excellent, and there was a pretty large selection of nostalgia-inducing candy. The bf and I had a good time wandering around pointing out various types of candies that we were both into. Bonus points for having grape-flavored Big League Chew. Dude, that stuff is beyond good. The bacon-flavored candy section is a lot of fun, and I was a huge fan of not only the WIlly Wonka room, but the wall with the little safety deposit boxes (at least, that's what I think they were) filled with gum. If you're a fan of chocolate, peanut butter and caramel, they have some balls in the bulk section that are to die for. Prices are totally reasonable, verified by my compulsion to check the price of the bacon balm I bought against the price on Amazon. Couldn't believe it, but it was cheaper at The Candy Vault! Extra bonus points for having a nice little selection of ice cream on hand, and for giving my bf a military discount because he happened to be wearing his dog tags. God, I love that man. Wait... what? Um... The Candy Vault... The Candy Vault is awesome. Don't miss it if you happen to be in Sonora!

When visiting Sonora we stopped into the candy vault for some road trip snacks. This quaint shop offered a great selection, especially in the taffy section. What impressed me most is what happened when we left. Miles down the road, (too far to turn back) I realized I had left my Yeti cup on the counter, when I'd paid. I called and asked them to get it to the bridal store that we would be returning to in a few months. Although the cup didn't make it to the bridal shop, I was so surprised to find that the candy shop had carefully wrapped my cup and stowed it away for my return. What great customer service! I am so grateful!!

Great candy shop in downtown Sonora! The owner is a sweet lady and always has a smile on her face. There is a wide selection of different types of candy ranging from chocolate, gummies, sour belts to Boston baked beans and lemon drops. Prices were fair and the store itself is very cute. Reason for only 4 stars-- some of the sour gummies I got were really hard :( she did offer to replace them but it seems like the entire cubby was stale.

We love The Candy Vault - from the copper door, the creaky wood floors to the extensive selection and friendly service. They have just about every candy you can imagine plus some fun/funky gifty items (bags, lunch boxes), sour cream and onion crickets (yrs, crickets!) and a huge selection of bacon flavored/scented items. There is indeed a vault of candy which I have never noticed in the many years we've visited! Through a vault door the original Charlie and the Chocolate is playing and Willy Wonka candies are in display. They not only have per packaged candy, but also hand crafted truffles and other choco lately treats. They also have ice cream and floats, but it looks like the ice cream isn't back until April. The woman running the shop was really friendly and helpful. She also offered us a sample of a peanut butter chocolate malt ball. Mercy!!! Delicious! We all found something to buy.. The girls Nerds ropes, Harry Potter chocolate frogs, Junior Mints, a "natural" Milky Way and I scored a candy from my childhood in the 80's - Whatchamacalit! Always a fun stop even 2 days after Halloween. :)

A big shout out to Nancy today!!! Thank you again from Wendy, Mario, and Gina. The Candy Vault is amazing!!! We will be back. Going to enjoy my Sugar Daddy and Orange Crush in a bottle...!!!!

UPDATE 10/20/12 Came here since my last visit and found out that the place is reopened and under new ownership! The store is still the same they have not changed it at all. I'm gonna miss this place so much ;( One of the best candy places I've ever been too. And it's old fashioned...which is a vibe I like. I longed for the days when I used to come here and pick up some Ice Cream Parlor Jelly Bellies, some Toxic Waste and look around the store to see what other candies there may be. Oh Candy Vault why did you have to close??

Probably the best store I've been in while in Sonora. Lots of candy goodness to gawk at and especially enjoyed taking a gander at the Willy Wonka movie playing inside the vault. Was surprised to see pics of the child actors from the movie all grown up, wow... Buuut, there was a bat laying right outside the front door (still alive) and was flapping it's wings, I was grossssed out. The girl behind the counter ran out and said to a co-worker "Oh, can we keep it"? We originally wanted a milkshake, but we had second thoughts and left, ewww.

The owners are generous and gracious. They are an asset to the community. They have a huge selection and are very friendly. Looking forward to returning. Definitely worth the trip.

What a cool little store. I love Sonora so much. The quaint little downtown area is wonderful. They have some really cool shops including this one. Great old time candy and fun chocolate baked goods as well. Will be back next time.

My two daughters ages 7 and 3 were so excited to come to the Candy Vault. They were all over the store finding new and funny candy that they wanted to try. My Mom was with us and of course she let them get at least 4 pieces each. My daughter was looking for bacon mints and the male owner said they didn't have any, but offered her a different kind of bacon candy. She didn't want it but he apologized and was very friendly about it. The girls especially liked the vault part and knowing that it used to be a bank a long time ago. We will definitely be back when we are in Sonora again. I'm sure they will find new goodies that they missed this time.

When I walked into this store I was immediately whisked away to my childhood. Upon my eyes were rare delights I hadn't seen in decades. I was excited to get a scoop or two of ice cream, some truffles to take home, and a candy apple for my husband. After exploring the store, we walked up to the register where, a woman with four of her adult family members were ordering ice cream. When the lady behind the counter removed her mask to speak to the also unmasked customer, I took a second look at the other staff working behind the counter. No masks on any of the three. As an establishment that serves food in the Time of COVID, this is completely unacceptable. To have staff members preparing the ice cream cones and handing them off to the customer is frankly dangerous. With Sonora being a destination, customers are coming from all over and there's no telling who could be a carrier. My husband and I turned around and walked out. I'm all for supporting businesses during this challenging time but felt compelled to write this review as a warning to others who are concerned about spreading COVID.

My kid loves it here. Lots of choices for a decent price. Old fashioned candies and new ones to choose from. If you, or your kid(s), want to try hitting up a candy shop, this one will not disappoint.

My fiance has been casing this joint waiting like those old Mervyn's commercials with his face pressed against the glass, chanting "Open, Open, Open" and finally the Candy Vault did - and he's been like a kid in a....wait for it...candy store ever since. (I had to go with the full cheese there) I, on the other hand, have been trying to diet for our upcoming nuptials...but he finally convinced me to go with him last week. The Candy Vault has EVERYTHING! And I mean EVERYTHING! Even Flicks and Gilliam sticks! Who has those these days? No one! Huge selection of Jelly Bellies, taffy and all of your "normal" or current candy staples, plus a bunch of candy you can get by the pound. They even have truffles and ice cream. To the previous yelper who said this place is expensive - it's NOT. Prices are cheaper than those mall candy stores for bulk candy. Now once it heats up, I'll have to go back for their root beer floats. :) Yum Yum!

Every time I come here, I feel like such a kid in a candy store (yeah..)! I love gummies, so I grab myself a bunch of gummies whenever I'm there. They have a wall dedicated to candies you can buy by the pound, and they also have powder candy and other small candies. The store has a display for some (homemade?) unique chocolates which I've never tried, but they look super decadent. They also offer ice cream, with some flavors sound amazing and large waffle cones. Something I really enjoyed about the store is the large shrine they have in the back for Willy Wonka. They have an exhibit that includes the many varieties of Willy Wonka candies, as well as the original film and character biographies. In addition, there is a wall of old small mailboxes that double as candy storage boxes. These antique mailboxes offer some old-fashioned goodies in small boxes, even some that you thought were phased out! This candy store has pretty much every candy you could ever remember or dream about. If there is a candy bar you remember from your childhood that you can't find elsewhere, The Candy Vault is your place. There's also a lot of retail items, such as lunch boxes, gifts, and small toys. I would probably come here for all my candy, but it does get a tad expensive (especially since it's in Sonora). A prime candy spot, something great for the weekends with your loved ones after lunch.

Candy, candy, candy! What more can I say! When I was a kid I was never allow to go to a candy store because we didn't have much and it was a waste of money, if we did. Therefore, now I'm all grown up and I could stay my whole pay check here! Which I wouldn't do, maybe just half. Anyways, the wide selections of candies made it hard to choice them, because I wanted all. I wanted the baseball size jawbreaker, the gummy dinosaur, saltwater taffy, all the willy Wonka candies (nerds, sweettarts, etc), and many many more! But I settle for the clapping monkey candy, the I heart pen!s gum, and the rock pops! I only went for the ones I haven't had for a long time.
