The Best Things We Ate This Week

"Octopus Hot Dog Shelter is yet another New York restaurant that flew south to Miami this year. The Argentinian spot landed in Wynwood, where it serves some very good empanadas, decent pizza, and various other dishes inside a dining room that looks like a hunting lodge collided with a coworking space. The food here wasn’t bad though, especially the bacon-wrapped octopus hot dog. The bacon was nice and crispy, there was some pickled slaw on top, and, while it was more of a snack than a $20 entree, we thoroughly enjoyed it." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea

Wow. So a homeless shelter really isn’t a business it’s a non profit. So this review isn’t a complaint about the tomato’s it’s the truth. I spent 1.5 weeks here after a bizarre turn of events in my life. I needed a safe place to stay. Resident of Miami Beach. The place is not bad actually but like all things in life. It isn’t the place it’s the people. I made a complaint after a down on his luck guy which I am too and can’t complain, was going off. I followed the complaint process. I came home after looking for work. They wanted to screen me for alcohol. I don’t drink or do drugs. They FALSIFIED records to kick me out. I asked for a breathalyzer and they lied. So wait, these “men” lmdao are telling me how to be a man but their leadership lied about a drug test. Ever heard of Stockholm syndrome. Place is beyond sketchy.

I called. They said beds were available to show up on Monday at 4:45am. I did. OMAR said it was a rehab not a shelter and no beds available. I took a trirail train for 3 hours now Im stuck in Miami starving. DO NOT COME HERE FOR HELP! THEY DO NOT CARE!

Visited/Volunteered with my office partners for an amazing organization. They need the communities assistance in sorting donations, painting/touching up paint so the facilities continue looking good. You don't have to have big pockets to make a big impact!

Very welcoming , very appreciative and grateful for donations. I love to give and they love to receive… I rather go here than Goodwill . I used to go donate to goodwill before but it felt like a business transaction.

I arrived at the Miami Rescue Mission (now also known as The Caring Place Dr. Frank and Maxine Jacobs Center for Men) on Monday, June 10th, 2019, and everything the Mission offered me promptly changed my life for the better. Today, I am a proud staff member of the Miami Rescue Mission. I was hired in September of 2021 as a Teaching Assistant at the Jeffrey A. Tew Education Center. I love helping my students better themselves by tutoring them in the various aspects of Adult Basic Education. It gives me great satisfaction when a student tells me that I explained a concept (be it Math or English Grammar) in a way that finally got him to understand it. I know that I am helping these fine gentlemen get closer to becoming self-sufficient and productive members of society one small step at a time.

I have donated there many times and there is always someone there to help and the parking lot is I front and f the door where they get the donations from your vehicle, All donations go to homeless shelters and domestic violence centers. If you want to help those who need it most, this is the best place for that. Call in advance because the address is a block Fortier than the drop off location. But the do amazing Job and they are super organized. May the Lors keep blessing that wonderful mission.

I am truly grateful for the amazing people that work here. I needed something for my son and I started emailing every agency, nonprofit organization and companies and people that I thought could help. Then I get an email saying we have ordered your request you can pick it up tomorrow. Mind you I had never been to the Miami rescue mission or spoken to anyone or have no kind of connection to them and the way they were able to so fast and willingly help us just warmed my heart. Thank you to all at the Miami Rescue Mission!! God bless!!
