We lived in the Carson South building for 2 years. I was overjoyed to leave and would never move here again. Here's why:
1) The noise is BAD. Terrible in fact. This alone was cause for us to move once we could afford to. They really cheaped out on the windows when they built the Carson - I have lived elsewhere in PDX on busy highway roads where the windows were almost soundproof - it was absolutely possible to prevent this, and they chose not to. As a result, whenever the landscapers use leaf blowers, which they use every time they come, for literally any and every task they perform (it's quite creative, really), multiple times a week, it will sound like they are running them in the middle of your living room. Even if you are 5 stories up.
I could also hear the freeway noise inside the unit with the windows closed, and the garbage and recycling trucks are deafening when they come, as is the cooking oil recycling truck that parked right beneath our window. Basically, anything happening outside on the street will sound like it's inside your apartment - dogs, children, people, cars, etc.... We had to place sound-proof panels in the bedroom window to help dampen it because the road and other noise is so bad at night.
So, if you like to sleep, or sleep in, I'd definitely look elsewhere.
2) Ventless "dryers". These are not actual clothes dryers, because, to be that, clothing would need to come out dry, or close to it, in a reasonable amount of time (2 hours or less on average). Our ventless wonder routinely took 6+ hours to dry a light load, 12+ to dry a heavy load. We complained about the dryer when we first moved in, and were told to use the timed dry cycle and max out the time. In other words, they aren't expected to actually dry your clothes, even when they are working, and certainly won't do it in the short time it takes a real dryer to do it. This cannot be remedied because there are no actual dryer hookups in the unit.
The hot and cold water were also attached incorrectly to our clothes washer when we moved in (hot was cold).
3) LATCH, which they use in place of an actual key or fob, SUCKS. It is slow, buggy, inconvenient, the cards never work, the codes they give vendors are routinely missing digits, and half of the access points just ignore the phone when trying to unlock them. It is quite literally the worst possible solution to a problem that already has many good, time-tested solutions, none of which involve your phone, an app, or bluetooth. A truly apalling piece of tech that makes me certain this must be the bad place, because only the devil would think of something so petty and ubiquitous to utterly ruin like this.
4) The other tenants. Wanna live with people who can't follow the most basic instructions about community safety, trash and recycling disposal, or shared space etiquette? Me neither!
Expect other tenants to leave the trash chute open, leave full trash bags on the floor of the trash room, and leave oversized and overflow recycling in the room instead of taking it down to the bins where it belongs.
We found the rooftop deck is virtually unusable when the weather is nice for the same reason. But, if you like to share your space and your sunsets with obnoxious drunken frat boys who have big bluetooth speakers and little self awareness, you're in luck!
Other tenants routinely let non-residents whom they do not know into access-protected parts of the building. I get that it sucks to have to tell some dude from Doordash "no I can't let you up, call the jerk who ordered the sandwich," but you know what sucks even more? Having to wait for Eschelon to clear the building of someone having a mental health or other crisis before you can get safely to your door.
Lastly, many of the dogs and dog owners in the building and the area are great. But many are not, and there are A LOT of dogs. If your dog is not very well trained and socialized, or doesn't like other dogs, please do not move here. There are enough of those already, and they create lots of stress for themselves and everyone else.
