"This charming inn makes a delightful pitstop, especially for those visiting the nearby motor racing circuit. The menu is just what you want to see in a place like this: a blackboard of daily specials and dishes that are punchy and full of flavour. In season, local game is always worth ordering and the desserts are consistently good too. The building dates back to the 12th century and boasts many original features; comfortable, immaculately appointed bedrooms complete the picture." - Michelin Inspector

I picked something from the specials board and sent it back becuase it wasn't edible in my opinion. It was drenched in chilli oil and the seafood was grey. I tried my daughter’s fish and chips when she couldn't eat it. It had absolutely no flavour (and was just about cooked). Even the salt and vinegar has no flavour. The chips taste like they've been reused and reheated from the previous day. My husband's burger was dry. The pigs cheek starter had no flavour and was surrounded by what tasted like tinned tomatoes. The bread in a box was stale. I wish I'd returned all of it, becuase the worst meal my family has ever had cost £72. We fed back to staff at the time but no discount was offered. I hate leaving reviews, but I wanted to share with others to help save their money.

We went for Sunday lunch, booked it for 1pm ( booking advisable, not too many tables relatively speaking). We arrived on time and within a few minutes we ordered. Drinks came quickly but the food took over 30 minutes to arrive. I went for the Dexter beef lunch. The beef was |rare in a thick slice, almost a steak and not thin slices. It was very hard to cut with a normal knife, and if this is the standard style of beef offered a steak knife would have been better. The other problem was that although the vegetables were warm, the beef was lukewarm hence my knocking my rating down. However my partner had the seed roast as she is vegetarian and gluten free and enjoyed her meal immensely, saying it was the best she had eaten in several years. The service was good with plenty of staff, the cost was what you might expect for the picture book setting. Just a few tweaks and it would have been a 5 star review from myself.

It was a little difficult finding the entrance to the hotel but we were having driving challenges so that probably caused the issues. The hotel isn't fancy but it was super comfortable. The room was adorable and we had great views of the area around the hotel. We didn't eat at the hotel but we did have a few drinks in the evening and it was very enjoyable. Only issue was that there was no hot water when I was ready to shower before bed. However, the bed was so comfortable and I slept so well that I couldn't even let a cold shower lessen my review.

Went in for food they said it would be a long wait so we needed up ordering coffee and hot chocolate. My partner wanted a cake slice and they said they didn’t do cakes and assured us they give cookies with coffees so that’s the only reason we took the coffee. When the lady came in with our coffee and hot chocolate there was no cookie in sight. So my partner asked politely once and she gave a very arrogant response of “we don’t have any today it’s run out”. No sorry nothing. It’s a Monday afternoon and they don’t have a cookie ?! And the person who took our order assured there will be a cookie ! The lady who gave us our order was very irritated rather that my partner asked her once. Very disappointed at the service and the lack of manners. Wouldn’t recommend!

I was disappointed by my visit to The Castle Inn on this occasion. I have been many times and used to love it. When we entered it was 11.50am and we were told the lunch service hadn't started. We said that was fine, we were happy to wait. The staff member told us that we weren't allowed to sit down until lunch service had started. He said it in quite a rude manner and was very unaccommodating. We really didn't see why us sitting at a table quietly for 10 minutes was an issue. When we came back, the food itself was quite nice however there were lots of flies constantly landing on our food, which was less than ideal. Understandable if we had been sitting outside, but we were sat inside near the bar. On a positive note, there were 2 staff members who were fantastic. We didn't catch their names unfortunately, but a lovely lady and guy who took our order and served our food. They were extremely friendly and welcoming. The first staff member who turned us away would do well to learn from them.

If you want to stay one night in this fairytale village, I think you only have two options: The Manor House and the Castle Inn. Two different proposals with two different prices, as well. The Castle Inn was our choice and it was a good decision. In fact the best decision was to stay one night in this wonder called Castle Combe.|As it's almost impossible to park your car nearby, they told us to park it at the neighbour hotel: The Manor House, with a short corridor between both.|Check-in is done at the same pub. Quick and efficient. They also helped us with our luggage as we were at the second floor, with no lift available. The room itself is quite small but well distributed. The room was not the best we've slept in but it was OK. Decent bathroom and shower. And the best surprise was a delicious teddy bear with the signal of "Don't disturb", to be placed outside the room. Brilliant.|Breakfast was OK despite the fact there was only one person in charge of it and the waiting time of more than 20 minutes to bring the food

Booked an evening meal here as staying at the Manor House but that was fully booked and wasn't disappointed. We arrived early and seating us early wasn't a problem, in fact nothing was a problem for the staff who were helpful and attentive throughout the evening. I had 3 course meal, Puff pork to start, Castle Inn burger and ice cream for dessert that was truly mouth-watering. Would recommend this to anyone staying or passing near

We had a very disappointing stay on Sunday for our wedding anniversary. The positive was our room, which was large, nicely fitted and decorated and clean - no complaints. The starters were fine, but my steak main was very tough and totally overpowered and ruined by the huge amount of blue cheese sauce. My wife's monkfish was massively overcooked. We barely started our mains and opted against risking a dessert. Bread was very dry (stale). Service for this meal was friendly. Breakfast took 45 minutes to arrive from ordering, by which time we had long finished our tea and coffee- no more was offered. We were asked to leave our bags next to the side entrance when we parked our car. This was not a seperate room and was not monitored, it was right next to the open door to the pavement. We had nice drinks in the Manor House and with hindsight, should probably have eaten there instead. A rather expensive, huge disappointment. I'm sure there is sufficient daily footfall, to not worry about repeat trade, or reputation and that's exactly how it felt.

Yelp
Excellent food and friendly service! We were so happy to see that there were so many delicious options to chose from including daily specials. The starters were excellent(tomato soup, croquettes, and bread) but the main courses (open beef sandwiches with creamy horseradish, fresh trout, and garlicky broccoli side) were so fresh and flavorful, I'd love to come back soon. They also serve a nice selection of local beers and the building itself is beautiful.

Yelp
Castle Inn is a quaint 12th century pub in the heart of Castle Combe village, located on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds. It has been lovingly restored to offer a classic Cotswolds pub and B&B to guests with open log fires, exposed beams and many original features. Located in the Castle Combe market place, the historic inn has seen the likes of Oliver Cromwell (English politician and military officer) pass through its doors. After touring through the Cotswolds, we stopped at the Inn for some lunch. We were one of the first guests to arrive that day and were seated promptly. Their restaurant serves a surprisingly creative British menu with many gluten free options and features an extensive wine list. I had yet to eat fish 'n chips on this trip and so I went with the Lager Battered Catch of the Day which came with a pea puree, dripping chips, and curry sauce. This was probably the most interesting fish 'n chips I've had to date. I've never had it come with 'dipping sauces' before. I normally just have it with a bunch of malt vinegar, but dipping it in that curry sauce was so incredibly delicious! Woah! The pea sauce was also interesting, but I found myself continuously going back to the curry. The dish was also perfectly fried with a crispy outside, moist inside, and it was not oily at all. This was honestly the best I had while in the UK and I still think about it months later! If I had malt vinegar it would have been even better. My other half had some local beer with the Breast of Creedy Duck w/ Leg Ragu, Braised Onion, and Asparagus and Turnip. This dish was lovely and nicely presented. My husband really enjoyed it. The lag ragu in braised onion was very flavorful and I would have eaten an entree size of that. Our little one had mac n' cheese. It was a bit pricey for a lunch, but given the location, limited options, history, and quality of products; it's understandable. The service was a bit slower than we would have liked (that may be my American expectations speaking), but overall, we had a lovely time and enjoyed our lunch in this magical little English village. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Yelp
The Castle inn has an amazing and friendly staff ready to help you with your every need! The front desk check in is at the bar which we found confusing at first but the hostess assured us it happens all the time! Went down for some shareable stuff for dinner and had some dessert as well, everything we got was great! Highly recommend the chipolatas!

Yelp
Staying in the Cotswolds was a dream. With no one in town it made it very easy to get pictures without tourist (myself included). The rooms are cute and recently remodeled. Only complaint is our shower room had no way to allow steam to escape. You could see mold forming in the skylight (that opens but no way to access). The beds slept wonderfully and staff was great. We ate at the restaurant upon arrival. Luckily they were able to accommodate us. Lots of choices. I got the wild boar lasagna and it was good. Others got the special of a steak and mushrooms and a burger. The burger was preferred over the special. The steak was over cooked. Enjoyed our stay and would return.

Yelp
A quick review as only stopped here to refuel on a hot sunny bank holiday Monday. The inn is a charming place to stop for a drink with friendly staff and a nice relaxing place to sit inside or out and take in the views of the lovely village

Yelp
What a lovely surprise! Castle Combe is the most beautiful, charming town I've ever seen. You feel like you've been sent back in time to a magical village. The Castle Inn is the perfect compliment to this town. The interior is modern, but the decor and finishings are true to the history of the town. it all fits together so perfectly. From the low ceilings and wood beams to the big stone fireplaces and quirky staircases, it's all just perfection. As we visited on a Sunday, we had to partake in the Sunday roast. We started with the breads for sharing, which included 4 dipping sauces. Then we had the soup of the day, Tomato and Red Pepper. Then the roast. The roast included a big portion of steamed vegetables, roasted potatoes, roasted parsnips a puff pastry and 2 large carvings of beef. And of course gravy! Everything was perfection. Zero complaints. Service was great. Prices were great (1, 2, 3 course pricing structure). As the town is so little, it's great that one of their 3 (maybe 4) options is so perfect. Go to Castle Combe, and go to the Castle Inn!

Yelp
We walked in about 7:30 pm hoping to have dinner. We stood by the door for about 5 minutes as employees walked past us and didn't say hello or even acknowledge our existence. We finally got the attention of the bartender and were told if we didn't have a reservation they were completely booked. It's too bad because they didn't know before they decided to ignore us if we had a reservation or not. If we did have a reservation we would have walked out. Skip this place and go elsewhere.

Yelp
This inn is joined to the Castle Inn hotel. The bar part is very comfortable. It is set in a very picturesque village.

Yelp
Came here the second time. It's a very nice pub/restaurant. It's a bit touristy, but the village is small and have only 2 restaurants, and it's a very popular destination. But if you avoid lunch and dinner time. You will have a nice quite time drinking afternoon tea and read a newspaper. Very relaxing.

Yelp
A lovely cosy hotel set in the picturesque, olde worlde village of Castle Combe. The food here is perhaps a little pricey but excellently cooked & presented. The service was also second to nonefrom reception to the bar, the staff were very polite, attentive & friendly, a refreshing change! We were made to feel like nothing would be too much trouble.
