Best Restaurants in Woodford, Walthamstow, and North East London | Eater London

"A handsome 19th-century former coaching inn that dominates the high road and is regarded as the area's most glorious building; its character has been compromised in recent decades by being occupied by national casual-dining brands." - Zeren Wilson

We had a wonderful stay over the Memorial Day holiday. The Castle is located very close to Frostburg, MD which is a quaint little town with lots of history. Lots of good places to eat too. The gardens were beautiful, lots of chairs to relax in and enjoy the beautiful view. The inn keeper Tish and her sidekick Paula were a hoot. They were so friendly and made our visit very comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing. These women can cook! We stayed in the Munday room which had a little sitting area attached to the bedroom and our bathroom had a clawfoot tub. Everything was perfect! We will definitely be going back.

We found this hidden gem suddenly and chose it for a weekend getaway and couldn't have been more thankful that we did! It was my first b&b and we loved every moment of it. The location, the Ramsay suite, the breakfast.. everything was perfect. And last but not the least, the hosts..Trish, Pauline and Eric... They indulged us with long chats to roasting marshmallows and made our stay wonderful. Felt like a home away from home. We look forward to return there soon!

We had a fantastic stay. The innkeepers are warm & friendly, the food was fantastic & the castle has old world charm and personality. I love walking in to the castle and feeling like you walked into the 1800’s. The archways, the authentic wood floors & long wide staircase make you feel like you are transported to a time long ago. The breakfasts were amazing. Day one was red velvet pancakes, eggs & bacon. Day two was a meat & a veggie quiche.

Used this property as a stop over while travelling the GAP. What a great surprise. I am so happy that the B and Bs and hotels in Frostburg were full. For a cyclist the approach from the eats was great as it was a down hill almost all the way from the Mason Dixon line. ||||The property itself it awesome with beautiful grounds and plenty of places to find a cozy spot outside to relax. Inside although dated (to be expected with a historical home) was a treasure trove of interesting rooms, furniture and pictures. Every room had its own character. All the rooms had a private washroom (although one of our group had to access their washroom via the main hall). Our room had a magnificent king size bed which was so nicely made up that we hesitated to disturb it. Dinner and the next morning breakfast were wonderful and presented with great care. ||||Our bikes were secured under cover outside and thus we had no worries in this department.||||The library provided a great gathering space to discuss the days ride and plan the next. All in all a great stay. I only wish we could have styed more than one night.

Great place for a weekend get away! We stayed in the Munday Suite. It was lovely and clean. We enjoyed walking around the grounds. The breakfast was awesome! They had a coffee maker on the second level, which was awesome to be able to make a cup of coffee before breakfast. The library was great with games and lots of movies to pick from. The host was very sweet. We enjoyed our stay!

We had a very pleasant stay here. Seemed a little vacant and I assume it is because the owners are putting it up for Auction next month. We still enjoyed the stay, the home, and the breakfast. The bed was super comfy! The breakfast was out of this world. I enjoyed the conversation and wish the owners well in the future. I truly hope that someone buys this and continues the restoration. It is a beautiful property!!

The folks at The Castle were super hospitable for our honeymoon stay right after Ocracoke reopened during the pandemic. They made us feel special and were immediately responsive to all our queries. Especial thanks to the on site service and communication from John. We stayed in the crow's nest and had amazing 360 views of the island and lighthouse. We would definitely stay there again!

Tony and Judy -owners/hosts made us feel right at home. We had a mini stay vacation here in Cumberland, Md 21502. We decided to check out our area. It was an awesome experience. The food and service was outstanding. We felt like Family from the time we entered the castle. Definitely will stay there again.

Yelp
Fantastic romantic getaway. Inn keepers were warm, friendly and inviting. Tucked up on a mountainside in Mt. Savage, The Castle whisks visitors away to a time long ago as you walk through the doors. The archways, hard wood floors and time appropriate fixtures add to the feeing of being in another time and another place. The rooms are spacious, the vaulted ceilings are amazing with trim and design. Each room has its own unique charm. The breakfasts were amazing. Day one was red velvet pancakes, eggs and bacon. Day two was a bacon quiche and a veggie quiche. Will definitely be back again.

Yelp
A beautiful, unique, and romantic stay in the mountains. Located only 2 hours and change from DC, this was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. The Castle is filled with history, tastefully decorated, and the food was to die for. We stayed in the Munday Suite which has two rooms- one of which has a fireplace and a very comfortable chaise lounge. It was neat seeing the old fixtures in the bathroom, such as the claw foot tub. Really the star of the show was waking up and seeing the fog rolling in off the mountains and sitting down to a very hearty 5 star breakfast. I'd recommend doing the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and dining at the Gin Mill to complement your stay.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the castle as we were driving across I68 and wanted to breakup the drive to D.C. We arrived late (9pm) so we didn't have a personnel welcome but did have a nice note with keys which was all we needed. The room was clean and ready. It was such a relaxing king sized bed that set the mood for a nice evening away from cell phones or TV. The breakfast was excellent and the chef was attenive for a small preparation request. The attached bathroom was very nice and clean. The grounds around the castle were fun to explore but we just wish that things would have been in bloom as it was march and spring hadn't arrived yet. The small noticed inconvenience was adjusting the shower water temp some adjustments were required. Fair value especially considering the minimal options other than hotels.... Would stay again.
