The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi - Eater

"Categorical is one of many gems in Humayunpur serving Manipuri food from the hilly state in Northeast India. The restaurant’s unstoppable young chefs are helping to change the discourse around foods typically excluded from sweeping notions of Indian cuisine, serving dishes like fish-head curry, ametpa (chutney made with fermented fish and Naga king chiles, aka ghost peppers), sweets made from black rice, fragrant duck curry, and the region’s special red tea. The eco thalis include tastes of the restaurant’s best dishes, with a main fish, meat, or vegetable selection alongside a filling mound of sweet, sticky Manipuri rice. Try the atingba, rice beer traditional in many tribes in Manipur. The version at Categorical is sweet and light. [$]" - Sharanya Deepak

So my friends from IIT Delhi wanted me to have some local Manipuri food so they showed me this place ... and I am definately returning Venue 5/5 The décor is simply amazing, comfy and simple ..... I felt really at home with the vibe of the staff and place. Food 4.5/5 chicken Pan fry chicken Fry Eco pakora thongba aalu kanghou Singju Pork Eco pakora thongba and aalu kanghou are fresh starters that I liked a lot. Sour and spicy at the same time The Meals were great... the chicken was nice and juicy. The pork was also nice . The combination of marinated peppers with sticky rice and curry felt like home for my friends. I especially loved the pea veg curry. The mimi Singju was great ... really spicy and tasty. And despite the heat, we kept craving for more. Drinks 5/5 Attingba I ordered a rice beer and it was surprisingly refreshing ... must recommend in this heat Overall, I loved it... the staff are amazing and courteous. Definately an instagrammable place to have fun with my mates.

The food was delicious although it did push the boundaries for me in regard to heat. I had a veg Thali the Rice was excellent, the selection of curries where flavourful. Some of the dishes on the menu where unavailable because they where too busy which was poor, especially when fried rice is what my daughter would have enjoyed. The staff where friendly, and food took around 20 minutes to arrive. We had to wait around 30 minutes for a table so be aware restaurant is busy, soft beverage and juice selection is poor although they do have a nice selection of Manipuri teas. The music is horrible and sound system quality is awful. Also table is way to high in relation to the seats. Overall however experience was good mainly due to the food

I have visited humayunpur many times and always saw lots of crowd at Eat-Pham. This time I decided to try the place finally and when I did I regretted not stepping in sooner! This small eatery has some of the most simplest and delicious manipuri food. The menu is limited and the prices are very reasonable. We had the singju which is a salad made of cabbage, ginger and white peas. The portion size was good and the salad was pungent and spicy and so tasty overall. For the mains we tried the pork and chicken eco thali. The eco thalis are a great option as a small serving portion. You get a bowl of rice, dal and the protein of your choosing along with a green chilli chutney. The food is simply delicious and absolutely worth a try. In the drinks we had the fruit beer which was much need since the singju was spicy and for desserts we had the black rice kheer or pudding which refreshingly delicious. Must visit!

The Chicken Thali and Eco Chicken Thali are flavorful and satisfying, providing a delightful introduction to Northeastern flavors. The rice beer, known as Atingba, is a refreshing accompaniment that complements the meal well. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and inviting, with attentive staff enhancing the dining experience.
