Right next door to Via 313 and a slightly sketchy alleyway lies The Cat’s Pajamas, the most relaxed rooftop bar you’ll find in the area. We went on a very busy night but the line to get in wasn’t too bad. Luckily this place is just off 6th so it doesn’t get the foot traffic it should. The bar is beach themed, almost like a Maragaritaville with palm tree tops lining the bar and random jet skis offering photo opportunities. The staff is friendly and the venue is very accommodating of the weather with coverage and fans for the heat and heat lamps for those “cold” Austin nights. They have a decent amount of seating and TVs throughout the bar so you can definitely catch a game there. One of the best parts of the whole bar is the nighttime view of downtown. From there you can see the Cisco building and some other high-rises, definitely a nice contrast to the closed one or two story bars around. The Cat’s Pajamas is a fun rooftop bar, not too crazy, not too sit down. It finds just the right spot for those who don’t want to push through crowds on the street but still want a little bit of life out of their evening. Very much recommend it for those ending a night or wanting a slow ramp up before going all out. Also, drive safe and Uber if drinking. Parking around there is a nightmare.

Google
I don’t usually leave reviews but this place made me and my friend violently ill. We both order daiquiris and immediately noticed that it tasted off. We asked the bartender to remake it because both of ours tasted like paint/cleaning fluid. They kept dismissing us and told us to just drink it until we told them we wouldn’t drink them and left them at the bar. Eventually they made us both pina coladas and they tasted slightly better(still had a paint/cleaner aftertaste but we didn’t want to cause more issues) so both me and my friend drank them and later that night both of us were incredibly sick. We have no doubt it was from the frozen drinks here. It could have been an off night but I will not be drinking here again.

Google
New bar right off of west 6 near starbar. Fun atmosphere, plenty of great photo ops - and a killer frozen Marg. Actually, the frozen mojito may have been even better - I had never had one of those before. Cute swings at the bar give it a tropical feel, the dj was playing good music, the lights and general vibe was cool. Will definitely only get more popular from here on out - open til 2am weekends!

Google
Devan is so amazing! You should take her to Backstreet Boys.

Google
Just went here this past weekend and got my wallet stolen and the bartender and bouncer laughed in my face and said that they could do nothing about it. The next morning they tried to charged my account at the Nordstrom at 11:45am for $700 at the NorthPark Mall in Dallas. Do not go here, they have a scheme that involves the bar! They have been reported to the police. I know several others that have experienced the same thing

Google
Just went this past week and unfortunately I was a part of the statistic and saw these reviews and history a tad too late. Phone got stolen

Lights and atmosphere were super cool but the music selection and volume was so lame. It’s Sunday but I wanna PARTYYYYY CMONNNNNN

Google
really fun bar with a random jetski's, bumping speakers, and good vibes. however, i searched the entire place and didn't see any cat's in pajamas. super misleading name and i got pretty excited to see some cats in pajamas. maybe they were hiding but i definitely was upset when i didnt find them. would've been 5 stars if the cats were out in pajamas

Yelp
I've only been to this spot at night, and it's always bustling! The charming rooftop, with its random jet skis and vibrant dance music, promises a good time. I was expecting to see some cat-themed elements at the bar, which makes me even more curious about how they came up with the name! Where are the cats with pjs at though!?!?
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
I loved the tropical vibes at Cat's Pajamas, although I am really confused about the name as I did not see any cat-themed decor, and especially not cats in pajamas. I'm not sure if I just missed it. I like the ambience of a rooftop bar, and it was busy with a decent line that moved quickly. I got a vodka cranberry for $10, and they automatically add a 20% gratuity, which I think is quite generous. My friend bought three vodka shots for a total of $30, which we balked at. Definitely pricey. I'm not sure why my cocktail cost the same as a shot.

Yelp
Went for a friend's birthday that just so happens to be st Patrick's day. We started our time here on a Saturday around 4 - it was fairly quiet at first but with great music and friendly bartenders. At about 6pm it started getting more busy and more bartenders came on board but sadly they got less and less helpful/friendly. Prices for drinks are competitive for the area and they have a lot of frozen drinks coinciding the tiki bar feel. Swings and jet skis make for good photos and it looks to be a proud eagles bar when in season. For me it was the unfriendly bartenders that killed the otherwise fun vibe. And I wasn't a bad drunk customer either so maybe if you're drunk you'd notice the bad attitude less ‍

Yelp
Situated on a rooftop with lots of photo opportunities, this was a great spot to visit. The DJ was on top of things, and many people vibing and having fun. I would visit again.

Yelp
Sadly, the Cat's Pajamas doesn't get as much attention as its downstairs neighbors, The Bee's Knees. But, if you're already in the neighborhood and want to avoid the Bee's Knees line, come stop by! I love the outdoor space and the fun photo ops. It's perfect for large groups. Some places can overdo it with their themes, but The Cat's Pajamas strikes the perfect balance--it feels effortless, just like the Bee's Knees downstairs.

Yelp
This was a big bar that we found while driving around Austin. We were very hot and needed a place to get some drinks and saw this place. We didn't go inside but went up the stairs to their outside bar. The place wasn't very crowded, so we were able to get a few beers and a piña colada. First, the place did look pretty cool. They had plenty of spots you can sit at or even take pics with (swing and telephone booth). They also had plenty of fans around to get cooled off and plenty of shady spots. I did see a lot of lights too so I could imagine the place looking nice at night time. The beers were just beers, nothing fancy and my drink was alright. They did also have a lot of TVs around too to watch whatever sports you into. Overall, it was an ok experience. I think if I were to go back, I would do it at night time and when it's not as hot outside. It's not a bad stop though.
google avatar

Katey M.

Yelp
Incredibly loud, incredibly obnoxious, incredibly shady. Almost had someone steal my purse, the crowd was basically every bar's rejects and oh yeah, had someone tried to steal my purse from the back of my bar chair right after I had someone try to cop a feel.
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
Here's the truth, It's super cute and from our one visit staff is really nice. Their drinks are good, great frozen Miami vice. Con's: some very unpleasant guests like super rude and gross, compared to a bunch of other clubs we've visited in Austin, used condom on the floor? DJ probably still playing music that was unable to get even one person dancing. Wouldn't come back, pretty sure everyone's on lean. Currently trying to chug my drink down and go on to the next bar :) But again not on the staff I don't think --they were nice!
google avatar

Crystal N.

Yelp
this place is a vibe! I loved the interior it really made the place feel interactive and engaging. The swings were my favorite part about the bar! Someone was always on the swing haha it would be nice if there were more swings so everyone could get a chance to sit on them. The cats pajamas is on the upper level so u need to take the stairs lol i got confused and went to the one right next to it on accident haha
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
Nice place, good service, and good music. I didn't have any food but the drinks are good and reasonable. The bar is set up cool too, they have swings as seats and the bar is upstairs. I'd go back.
google avatar

Hong-an T.

Yelp
The drinks were good here. We got a Miami Vice which is refreshing for the hot weather. Defiantly a place to go to if you want to dance as it has lively colors and lights everywhere. Staff was quick with our drinks. Their decor was on theme with being very beachy. I loved how it was on the roof top so it is a great place to go for a girls night out. We went on a Monday night so there wasn't many people there but I can see it being very lively on the weekends. They had swings at the bar which was so cute!

Yelp
Groovy upstairs bar off of West 6th street. I've been wanting to check it out for a long time! Finally made it in on Thursday evening. I had no idea that they are the sister bar of Beez Kneez (downstairs). Asked the friendly bartender for a drink recommendation, and it was a amazing! I love frozen drinks, so I tried the Miami Vice (frozen pina colada & strawberry daiquiri). I would make a trip there just to have that again! The vibe reminds me of being on a beach vacation bar, so much FUN!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place as I saw the positive reviews and was impressed with the decor when we first arrived for drinks. Unfortunately, I left with mixed feelings about my experience. I'll start with the good parts. The drinks were good and fairly priced as one would expect from a bar on sixth, and the location is nice as it is fairly close to Star Bar and not exactly right on the main street. It is easy to spot because of all the neon lights, and it is on the second floor with a staircase leading up to it. The Bees Knees I believe is right next door and almost looks like it is the same building, but it is a different bar. I liked the theme that was a mix between tiki bar and Boca Raton. We ordered a few rounds of drinks and actually went to another bar before coming back to try something else at The Cat's Pajamas. Perhaps it was obvious to the bartender that I was a few drinks deep and feeling loose so when I ordered a standard mixed drink just as we did an hour or two ago, the bartender tried to charge me $44 for just 2 mixed drinks, when normally it is $16. The receipt listed 2 wells and a mixed drink and it seemed as if the bartender pretended not to notice the mistake. It certainly is not the first time a bar has tried to pull something like that and it is too bad that this was my first experience here.

Yelp
VERY loud late night. But cute vibe with picnic tables, jet skis and swings really leaning into the island vibe. Great piña coladas and a big bar so easy to get drinks even when it's busy. I've been coming here for years and it's like meeting an old friend each time.
google avatar

Poonam P.

Yelp
Don't think I've ever noticed Cat's Pajamas till now so I think it may be one of the newer bars, but what a vibe! Just from noticing it's color scheme and decor drew us in to go up stairs (from which they have a pretty good view of the buildings around west 6th. It's a total group type of bar, with their fun music and almost tiki style vibe. Great for bachelor or bachelorette parties as the tables are big and the bar area is open and spacious. They even have a couple arcade type of games in the back, including a basketball game which is always fun. And then a photo opp in the front part of the bar! Kind of went down to 3 stars because the drinks are pretty ordinary like other bars and there aren't many tables so if they're all full you have to stand.
google avatar

Bonnie R.

Yelp
We dropped in for the cool name & stayed for the truly unique vibe! We stayed upstairs on the patio, where we drank their "famous" pina coladas at the swings and soaked it up. Thankfully, the misters and fans were on to keep us cool. We played basketball, and I was shocked at how empty the place was. It was such an unexpectedly fun experience, cold drinks, and great service. Photos speak for themselves!
google avatar

Raychel R.

Yelp
Sooo much fun here!! Bartender was awesome, the swings were fun, decor was colorful, drinks were strong, music was fire, photo ops were silly...Just an all around good time. I think we must have stayed here for 3 hours just drinking in the vibes. Perfect for large groups.

Kevin D.

Yelp
I came after a comedy show in need of an equis. That's what I got. I'm gonna give this one a 3.7 overall cuz it was a little tough to acquire the equi
google avatar

Tayo F.

Yelp
Not a big karaoke guy but this places was definitely worth the time. Most of the time when I've been you get a private room for you and your friends, rarely has it been in front of the whole bar and never has it been Spanish themed but turns out I'm the one late to the party on this one. On top of the atmosphere they serve tacos there, what more could you want?
google avatar

Gerald C.

Yelp
The Cat's Pajamas was a good hangout. We were in Austin looking around and walking. I happen to find this place. It's was during the day but the vibe was good with good music. I had me a Michelob Ultra unfortunately it wasn't on tap but good. They have fans everywhere so I cooled down with the fans. I am definitely coming back next time I'm in Austin watching my Longhorns play!!
google avatar

Tatiana N.

Yelp
We came here with a bachelorette group maybe before or around 10-1030 on a Saturday night and came upstairs (per a local guidance, downstairs more chill and upstairs more fun, and they both have separate lines). The stairs to go up were a total insta photo op (lolz). Upstairs had bomb music and packed with people. Less dirty than dirty 6th if ya feel. A great memory!

Yelp
Like to go on cruise ships and drink up a storm? Take away the swimming pool and the ports of call, and you have the Cat's Pajamas. * * * The Cat's Pajamas has a downstairs dark depressing regular bar if you want to channel your inner Charles Bukowski. But everyone goes there for the on-the-roof bar which is tropical-resort themed. Palm fronds. A sky high angled bamboo like roof. Lots of fresh air. Swings to sit on at the bar. Jet skis to sit on with your friends. Many many many kinds of rum to allow for the mixing of various tropical concantenations. The bartending is good. My particular day - they weren't featuring rum drinks. They were featuring a cucumber vodka mojito and a pomegranate mule. The cucumber mojito was nice enough. The pomegranate mule was a home run. (They don't fool around with the ginger in their mules. They give you a lot of it and it throws you around the room.) I am guessing that at midnight on a Saturday night this place might be jammed to the gills - The way that all the other bars on West Sixth are jammed to the gills. But at happy hour time, The place is a real neighborhood pub. (Okay a real neighborhood pub with lots of fresh air.) The crowd is aged 25-35. People come in groups of four and six. People know each other including knowing the people at other tables. So there is clearly a regular crowd that considers the Cats Pajamas to be their home bar. The regulars come early, and stay a long time. Actual alcohol consumption is moderate. They are there for the talk and the company. [No guarantee that any of this applies at midnight on weekends]. Entertainment is not wonderful. The piped in music is indifferent Top 40. The TV show is Epic Fail Television. There is a limit to the number of videos I can watch of skateboarders jumping over a railing and pretending to bang themselves in the nuts. Epic Fail shows a whole lot of these. * * * Cat's Pajamas is not my cup of tea ... But I can see how it would be very good for a whole lot of people. And frankly I did not have a Pina Colada. I have no doubt in my mind that if I wanted a Pina Colada This is the bar in Austin where I would want to get it. (And I DEFINITELY like my pina coladas.) Note that the bar next doors is out of business ... A probable casualty of COVID-19. If management could buy the vacant bar next door, and put in a pool, Keep the bamboo ceilings, the palm fronds and the pina coladas. Maximize the tropical resort theme. Imagine that pool full of customers in their bathing suits. Have them play volleyball with a rubber chicken. There could be some serious possibilities here.
google avatar

Marina C.

Yelp
OMG this hidden gem!!!! We walked down the street for another bar next door which wasn't great. After being disappointed in the other bar we looked up and saw that they had swings...what could be better than a bachelorette group, booze and swings. The had great music playing and it set the mood for a Thursday night party. Great photo ops starting down stairs at the front entrance. The bar was not full yet which was nice, we got drinks right away. Sat on the swings at the bar, really cool but don't drink too much and try to swing. Jet skis and other props around the bar area for great photo ops. Would come back again! If you have a bachelorette or bachelor party come here as a stop.
google avatar

Suzy D.

Yelp
Head up the stairs to open area with picnic tables and 360 bar. Pose on the jet skis or with neon lights at night. Florida vibes on west 6th with eclectic crowd and standard bar fare.

Huey L.

Yelp
Eagles fan here. Ive been here a couple times and its ok. You're not gonna get the true Eagles fan experience here. Theres a couple other bars more suited for that in the austin area. But we arent grading that. The setup is meh. Tiki bar meets philly? Shitty seats. The first time i went there was a good bartender. Very quick. 2nd time it took 5 minutes and got skipped 3 times just to get a high noon. Overall its ok. Dont expect much
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
My wife's wallet was stolen out of her purse tonight while we were at Cat's Pajamas. We tried calling as soon as we realized it was missing, 10 minutes after we left, and nobody has answered the phone.

Yelp
More fun with Mike on Saturday night! Even our dog Yeti loves to hang out!! Everyone is always so nice
google avatar

Cindy B.

Yelp
Would you like to have a damn good time ! Lol this place is a mix of save by the bell and bay watch rolled into a beach bar !! This place is full of color and a fun atmosphere I didn't see any grumpy places at this joint whatsoever. The drinks are strong so buyers be ware but they are good and huge! Enjoy y'all ! Also they have swings !!
google avatar

Meghan C.

Yelp
An incredibly fun bar to go to with friends..or parents! I've been with friends and weirdly enough, my parents as well. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting for all ages. You'll always have fun here
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
Pretty cool place, that is committed to a beach style, full with canoe boat benches, wood plank swings, fake flamingos, and jet skis! We went on apparently a Friday game night, and there was practically nobody else there (there aren't many TVs there, and other bars on the block - next door - significantly outnumber them with TVs for sports), so we had our pick of seating. We wanted to try their frozen drinks (slushies basically) so we got one, and a mixed drink. The frozen drink was way too sweet for me, too much syrup, and not enough liquor to balance it. The mixed drink I got was basically flavorless and I wouldn't get it again. So, disappointed with the drinks, but the decor and atmosphere were cool; may come again on a busier night when it's more happening and stay away from the specialty drinks and go with something more foolproof like a rum and coke.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Great ambiance but mediocre drinks. The live music was a nice perk though and would recommend going for that
google avatar

Mikayla V.

Yelp
fly eagles flyyyy on the road to victory fly eagles fly score a touchdown 1-2-3 hit em low hit em high and watch our eagles fly e-a-g-l-e-s eaglessss

Yelp
TL;DR - Probably the coolest bar I've been that wasn't totally tiki-themed! After ACL, you can walk away from the venue and straight to a fun time in downtown Austin. (ACL does end quite early since it is an urban music festival.) I loved Cat's Pajamas!! It has such a fun vibe. Especially with the swings at the bar, the jetskis, the neon lights, the dj, the cool people! The drinks were good, and there's plenty of places to eat around the area.
google avatar

MacKenzie T.

Yelp
This bar was so much fun. There are funky novelties, like a phone booth, a jet ski, and swings. The drinks were fine and the service was great! Definitely not Covid safe, but if you're comfortable at a bar, it's wonderful. Really upbeat!
google avatar

Whitney B.

Yelp
Pinas!? Yes please. This bar is awesome. Love the drinks and the swings, always a good time
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
What a fun spot in Austin for a cocktail. Very much beach vibe and a lovely Long Island.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Although my friend & I came to Austin during an absolute ice/snow/state of emergency our first night we stopped in to have a drink at the Cats Pajamas! Being the only two people at the bar (due to the frigid cold) did not ruin our time. The bar tender was absolutely amazing & showed us a great time. From recommending places to stop while visiting ,shooting some hoops with us and even trying to teach my friend how to two step id say we had a great experience. Can't wait to come back to Austin again to stop in! Hopefully it's warmer.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Seems like a new establishment that could really be cool on a busier night, better drinks and better music. Positives: * Very cool atmosphere * Great location * Loved the swing seats (could raise them up a bit higher to improve bar access) Negatives: * Drinks were flat, weak & overpriced ($10 for flat coke & essentially no whiskey) * Music was lame * Place was dead
google avatar

Kai L.

Yelp
I rarely do reviews but this place is straight gnar gnar. The pina colada made me feel as though I was shredding sick waves off the coast of Malibu. Staff is great and the week time door guy is epic. Bartenders were fast and attentive. What place in Austin has jet skis for benches?
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
We had fun at this place! We stopped here later in the night after going to a few bars. The decorations are a fun neon/80s/beach vibe. There was a lot of people here, but we didn't have to wait to get in. The bar takes up a lot of the space, so it felt a little congested with people, but not too bad. There were fun swings attached to the bar. The bartenders were nice. I saw people with some interesting-looking drinks, but there seemed to be no written menus anywhere to describe said drinks. I got a cider and it was good. Overall, we had fun here I would come back
google avatar

Ben W.

Yelp
Awesome new spot! Definitely worth checking out if you are visiting Austin. Wish they had a drink menu, but the bartender told us the pina colada was awesome and he was right! Pretty good view of the downtown skyline too.
google avatar

Steven O.

Yelp
Good service. Nice vibes. Wasn't busy when I was there, but it was very early. Made me a pretty nice painkiller.
google avatar

Brooks S.

Yelp
Cool bar! Love the beach theme. Drinks were good and atmosphere is nice. Pricing wasn't too bad either. I'd recommend this place for a night out. The bar has some cool swing seats too.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! The drinks were reasonably priced and I love all the lights that make this place so Special! The bartender Brett was giving us all kinds of ideas of what his favorite places to go while we are in town! I plan on making the cats pajamas my stop every day while I'm here!

Emilee Y.

Yelp
we were the only ones in the bar ordering and as soon as we got our drinks the bartender goes "can we likeeee go stand somewhere else so i can get more orders?" and pushed us away

Sophie S.

Yelp
Super fun bar, love the theme and the creative drinks. If you sit down at a picnic table I'd give it a 5/5, but they had opened the bar for walk-up service during covid which I'm pretty sure isn't allowed. This photo was taken on a Saturday night in December and I only came because I thought an outdoor bar would be safer! I couldn't see a single mask except for the employees. Their table service is great, I just wish they would limit it to just that.

Abby H.

Yelp
Literally walked in to this bar for 10 minutes and had a bartender spill a drink on me and then got domed with a basketball sitting at my table. 0/10 experience, will not be returning Lol
google avatar

Makayla S.

Yelp
Used to think this spot was pretty cool until I was leaving a couple weeks back and overheard the bouncer joking about George Floyd's murder with two APD officers. I wanted to say something but was highly outnumbered and I'm a woman who is 5'0ft tall 125 pounds soaking wet, so not a whole bunch to work with fighting wise. I think it's absolutely deplorable to have that kind of hate speech comfortably flowing out of your establishment. Not to mention furthered my disgust for the APD.
