Why Calorie Counts on UK Restaurant Menus Waste Energy | Eater London

"A large pub chain that already lists calorie counts on its menus; while this means some outlets are already complying with the new labelling requirement, evidence suggests calorie labelling generally produces only limited, short‑term changes in consumption and can cause long‑term discomfort for diners who have or are recovering from eating disorders." - James Hansen

Coronavirus UK Latest: Wetherspoon and McDonald’s Staff Protest Wages | Eater London

"The Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union has called on this pub chain to top up the remaining 20% of employees' pay during coronavirus-related closures, arguing that the government-backed 80% furlough payment leaves many workers on 'poverty wages.' The union highlights how the 80% scheme can vary in its application—covering directly employed staff while leaving others dependent on employer policy—and raises concerns about insecure hours and contract types (including zero-, 8- and 16-hour contracts). It also points out that a minimum-wage worker averaging 30 hours would receive about £247.89 per week after tax under the scheme, which the union says is insufficient support." - James Hansen

Google
This was a great pub for drinking, with a fresh white interior incorporating red along the sides! The arch windows are nice and we found a cosy seating area, although the pub is a bit small. Counter is nicely laid out and I enjoyed a fresh healthy option in the Grilled Halloumi-Style Cheese & Roasted Vegetable Salad, served in quick time.

Google
To put in in one word: cute! This is by far the smallest Wetherspoon I have ever been to! Not like to big, crowded once you are used to! But: Service was perfect! Food was good! Right in the middle of town, less than 5 min walk from the castle. Inside and some outside seating! Highly recommend!

Google
Very good place to visit. Well situated on the Antrim coast road at Carrickfergus. Lovely views of the sea and castle from the upstairs room. Good selection of real ales and drinks with a very good food menu served by helpful and friendly staff. We enjoyed a really nice curry there last week. Nice surroundings with the castle and harbour to visit, coastal walks and some interesting shops. Would suit family groups. Strongly recommend.

Google
Doesn't look or feel like any other spoons I've been to. Usual cheap drinks though, plenty of seating, and food was quick and upto the usual standard. Friendly staff as well

Google
Great spoons. Toilets on the ground floor!!!! Ulster fry nice, as a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇵🇱 visitor was welcomed by the staff. They even lent me a charger plug. Spot on

Google
Visited Sunday evening. Some items on the menu and some tap beers at the bar were not available. What was available, was prepared or poured correctly. Prices are still keen, albeit after the covid lockdowns the menu has become less interesting: some Asian additions and some European removals. The Gourmet Steak meal is greatly missed. Working hours are being quietly shortened: the food used to be available until 11 pm, now if you walk in after 9:30pm, you chance a partial or complete unavailability of menu choices.

Google
The staff at Witherspoons Carrickfergus are great, but unfortunately, the food has gone downhill fast, from being alright to quite bad. I used to look forward to going there for breakfast every day, especially since I suffer from critical heart failure and it's one of the few opportunities I have to get out of the house

Yelp
Gord and I had a late lunch today at Wetherspoons. So nice to have lunch on a patio overlooking a castle! Gord had battered cod and chips, which he liked. I had a pepperoni pizza ... the pepperoni had a weird taste. The prices were really cheap.

Yelp
Wasn't great. Rude staff, the pizza was pretty bad (I mean it's still pizza so I'll eat it) for pizza, and the atmosphere was just bleh. Should have read the Yelp reviews before going.

Yelp
This is always somewhere we would go before a night out, to get a bit of cheap drink before heading on somewhere better. The bar has a good location, the staff are friendly, and the drink is cheap. That's pretty much all of it's good points. The downstairs bar is pretty large and the layout is a bit cluttered, all of the tables just sort of jammed in together. The clientele, as mentioned, are quite dodgy. Mostly made up of older men and women over the age of 50, who look a tad rough around the edges, mostly wearing tracksuits. It's also got a reputation as a bit of a boxing ring, and I've heard many reports of fights kicking off here, but thankfully I've not been there when any of this has happened. They have a restaurant upstairs, where you can get a decent feed for dirt cheap, and while the food is no haute cuisine, it's tasty enough and you get good sized portions. I particularly enjoy their Thursday night curry club.

Yelp
Avoid avoid avoid! Rough punters, regular fights and rude staff. Food microwaved and not very tasty. There are some good drinks promos though.

Yelp
Formerly the Central Bar this branch of Wetherspoons is, well, central in Carrickfergus, just across the road from the fanmous Norman Castle. Its typical of all Wetherspoons in that food is only ok a bit like canteen nosh but can't be beaten on value for money. Always plenty of deals on drinks and food and if you register on their website they sent you a kind of newsletter with lots of 2 for 1 type offers on drinks and meals so for top marks for value if not for quality!

Yelp
Flip the reviews on here aren't great news. I guess to begin with you must remember this is a wetherspoons. It is what it is. It's decent. It's clean (enough) it's cheap as chips. Have fun and remember where you are. The upstairs is nice and some of the food is good. Enjoy

Yelp
This wouldn't be my choice for going out drinking in or even eating late at night-i've heard too many bad reports of fighting and general trouble. However, for a lunch I think eating upstairs is great! The food isn't too bad-perfectly acceptable for the price of it and there are always good deals going on. great for a good value lunch, but don't expect to be completely bowled over by the place

Yelp
Typical Wetherspoons. Most food tastes microwaved, except burgers and steaks which are generally great. The downstairs bar is full of old fellas most of the time, but it can get rough after evening time, especially at the weekend, and is infamous for fights which spill out into the street. Despite that, the 'family' area upstairs is fine at any time, and the downstairs bar is generally good and relaxed early in the day, for lunch etc.

Yelp
Nothing good about this place at all. The food sucks. People there are rough as, I see fights here all the time and I wasn't even inside most of those times. The staff are nice enough though. Didn't have any music last time.

Yelp
I visited the bar/resturant on the afternoon of sat 10 nov 20 12. I had a very average lunch which was OK but most tables were dirty & uncleared . I enquired about the xmas menu as they are one of very few that are open on christmas day. NOT one of the staff knew very much about the menu for xmas day, plus another said, i quote, that its nothing to do with me. is this the way to run a business in the currant climate, surley the staff should be promoting this special family day. Also when asked if there is a deposit req for a child booking (adult is £10 per head) the reply was i suppose £3.00 will do. What a way to run a business . I would say that head office needs to have a serious look at this establishment if they wish to keep the good name of Wetherspoons with its customers. Staff need retrained in customer service skills & how to clean customer tables.
