In short, Fantastic place given you are in a small town in the vast Texas desert. With a few more details, Food was good, place had a nice vibe inside the hotel and clean and service was very nice and friendly. It would prob be 4 stars if it was in Austin but I’ll cut em slack and give them 5. Kudos to them giving good quality tasty food in such a remote location.

Google
Fine, I’ll give it 5 stars. I’m super cheap and the Tater dish with green beans, mushroom, and cheese is pretty boss. It’s small for $16 (about the size of a large gumbo in NOLA valued at $10), but it’s quite tasty. The Caesar salad? Good, solid. The spinach and artichoke dip? Good but even better with their fried bread dipping chip thing. Boss, and quite unique of a design (instead of a chip or bowtie noodle). Their $45 steak? Excellent. In Houston or Dallas, it’s going to be $65 for the same steak with smooth, creamy mash potatoes and a subtle crunchy, well flavored green beans. Overall, pricey but it’s in a fancy hotel. Service at the bar table? Weak. The server is running the bar and the bar-tables so he couldn’t bounce from bar to our table very easily. Nice guy just mostly busy. So…5 star still b/c of the food.

Nobu, that's me

Google
If you want fine dining in the great unknown area of Texas which is the South-west portion… this is where you go. Top notch. This would have cost me 350 dollars in Houston. I think I paid about 200 dollars for four people with drinks here. It was underpriced considering the quality of food/drink/service received. CHEERS!!!!!!!! Order up!

Google
Tried this place again, with better results, so I upgraded it to 5 stars. Second Visit This time we enjoyed a 3 dishes: the Ribeye with asparagus spears and garlic mashed potatoes, swordfish ceviche with chips, and a cup of split pea soup with ham and a toasted slice of garlic buttered sourdough bread. All three of these were wonderful full of flavor and delicious. Beware, the swordfish ceviche is a little on the spicy side and has a good kick to it. First Visit Nice place. Very historic with that south western feel. The hotel looks cool, but this is for The Century Bar & Grill. You have to go through the bar to get there, so be sure to ask around if you can't find it and everyone will help get you there. We had the fried pickles as an appetizer and they were so good, between my son and I, we forgot the usual picture. Main courses; fish and chips (really I had fries), then the beef and bratwurst burger with waffle cut sweet potato fries. The fish was thick cut with a crumb coating fried to perfection the regular fries were, we'll regular fries. The beef and bratwurst burger, was very unique, one patty was beef and a second patty from a smashed bratwurst. Together the flavor was amplified by the caramelized onions and Horseradish sauce. The waffle cut sweet potatoe fries were delicious. Our server was very friendly and perfectly timed her table appearances when we needed something or to check on food quality and preparation. We were there for an early dinner, so the bar was busier than the restaurant.

Google
I had my wedding at The Holland Hotel this weekend where I had Century Bar and Grill cater my wedding dinner for a party of 27. Jon was exceptional at preparing all the food. We chose the Chicken Marsala, Chicken Alfredo, green beans, potatoes, salad, rolls, and the meat and cheese platter as an appetizer. I didn’t get many pictures due to me not having my phone on my wedding day, but all of my guests raved about how good the food was!! There was plenty of leftovers and I ate Alfredo for about three days afterwards. Jon made sure everything was perfect. I cannot recommend the Century Bar and Grill more for events!!!! Thank you so much to you and your staff for making my wedding weekend an absolute dream. PS we ate there again, and I ordered the ribeye that was delicious!! I attached a picture of my wedding plate and steak here.

Google
The food was great. Went there 2 times in a week. Service was good, the staff was very friendly. Ordered balsamic salad and calamari on day 1, day 2 was spicy chicken burger and a side salad.

Google
The ambiance of the hotel and restaurant was beautiful for a first time visitor. The dinner we had was delicious and the visual presentation was on point. The only downside was the server. She may have had a bad night but everything was disappointing in that aspect. Thank you to the cook who took the empty plates off of our table to give us room.

Google
Enjoyed my meal at Century. I was in town without having any plans and they were able to get me a table relatively quickly. This was a Tuesday in early December, so I probably just came at the right time. Food and service were good.

Yelp
Delicious! Wasn't too hungry, but hungry so decided to try this and so glad I did. There's a lot of specials, but the Monte Cristo caught my eye. Big hunks of ham, tons of melted cheese, light batter and topping of powdered sugar with diced potatoes was just right. Cool western themed restaurant in a historic hotel you must visit or stay in if visiting Alpine.

Yelp
The patio had a live band on our Friday night isit and stay at the Holland Hotel. Busy, so be sure to have reservations like we did. The seniors band playing live country and western music on the patio where we sathad it going on pretty good it was enjoyable. Younger younger crowd was definitely at the bar inside. Food wise, the "Loaded" Tater Tots were hot and crisp at least. The small amount of cheese sauce was on the bottom and hidden. Unfortunately there were only several morsels of bratwurst and no bacon. Service was a little slow, but polite. The rest of the menu looked good and the dishes at nearby tables looked nice, so may be worth another try.

Yelp
I CAN NOT say enough about how amazing this bar and its staff is. We went in as a group before dinner for a drink. Carlos the bartender took EXCELLENT care of our drinking/ non drinking crew. Went back later that evening and Carlos remembered us. I explained my son just turned 21. Carlos took the time to educate my boy on whiskey, women and life. I watched him treat every single customer with as much love. The bar is an oasis in the desert... but because of Carlos becomes more of a Garden of Eden.

Yelp
Sunday night they only serve "specialty burgers" but ran out of burgers at 6:30pm. Maybe stick up on burger meat on burger night, geniuses.

Yelp
We very seldom go to The Century anymore except for the occasional drink after work but last night we decided to try it again because we thought the new owners may have improved the restaurant. When we looked at the menu we realized that the pasta dish was now an appetizer. The burger my husband ordered medium rare came with two thin over cooked patties. There is not much on the menu to choose from and if you are a vegetarian you should just stay home. Hopefully (fingers crossed) the new owners will return the menu to it's glory days of fresh made mozzarella, prime rib specials, soups, and hard boiled eggs with candied jalapeños and bacon (which I now have recreated to rave reviews) as an appetizer. Alpine needs a good restaurant and I'm tired of cooking at home.

Yelp
The problem that ruined the experience was the very loud music coming from the kitchen. It drowned out the restaurant music and our conversations. It could be heard through the entire dining area. Food was ok. Been going to Century for around 11 years now as my previous glowing reviews show, and it seems to have gotten a little off lately with younger kids waiting tables and avoidable issues such as the loud kitchen music. We will be taking a break from Century for a bit.

Yelp
We stayed in the historic Holland Hotel adjacent to this restaurant, because they are dog-friendly, so it was the ultimate in convenience to dine in the wonderful courtyard. They got off to a good start with us by having several beers on tap. The menu had a generous choice of entrees and appetizers, including a vegan dish. We had seared ahi tuna chopped salad with a generous serving of the tuna. Good, but something missing that I couldn't put my finger on. This was a very pleasant evening--we would go back.

Yelp
On one of our travels through Alpine, my hubby and I stayed at the Holland Hotel. Reata was closed, so we tried the bar/restaurant in the hotel, the Century Bar and Grill. It was amazing! They had a very nice, cold IPA on tap, which made us very happy. I had a wedge salad which was fab (can't remember what hub had, but he loved it). We will definitely stay at the Holland again and eat in-house. Wonderful!

Yelp
So, I had fish and chips at a restaurant in Fredericksburg a few days ago and it was awful. So it was that tonight, with a little trepidation, I ordered fish and chips again. Tonight's experience couldn't have been more different. The fish was flakey and moist covered in a crispy batter lightly seasoned with blackened fish seasoning - subtle but definitely made a difference. The hand-cut fries were good and the homemade tartar sauce was super. Friendly staff, as was the chef who came to our table to answer some questions I had about the food.

Yelp
We only did the bar, but this was one classy place. The drinks were great, the service was impeccable, and the whole place was simply gorgeous. We did not eat any food, but it smelled amazing. We will be back to check that out in the future. Great bar for certain!

Kyle L.

Yelp
Very nice. A cool place to sit and enjoy drinks or wines from the well stocked bar. The service was very good. They checked on us regularly. The appetizers and the meal were high end delicious ! We enjoyed it all the with a fine Chardonnay from there well stocked and temperature controlled wine storage. In my opinion, it is one of the best places in Marfa Texas to enjoy a fine meal. PS. It is located in a fine hotel with a great gathering space in the lobby to meet friends and family. We look forward to our next meal there!-)

Yelp
We recently visited Alpine and found the Century Bar & Grill while out walking. The restaurant and hotel are interesting and have been restored to reflect their previous glory. We had a glass of wine and an horderve while perusing the menu. We settled on different dishes and sampled each others dishes. All of the plates were only OK, average overall as i expected. Pricey as well but maybe not for the location. The real issues i have with the business was the service. While exceptional dishes are difficult to prepare, service should be far easier. All of the service staff were inattentive, talking with friends in the bar and and not paying attention to their work. I say that because our desert was delivered without silverware. Several other servers passed by, we asked for cutlery and they never returned. Not their responsibility, forgot, told our server and she did nothing... i don't know, don't care. We then had to hunt for our server to ask for our bill. She later arrived, super friendly, started to chat and feign interest (when the tip was a stake). For me, icing on the cake to sort of speak, irritates me more than the crappy service. Managers are odiously not keeping up with their responsibilities either, training and monitoring the staff, maybe the same buddies in the bar. I was disappointed as bad service can ruin any meal and is easily fixable.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Alpine. Great diverse menu to include Vegan options. The food has always been great, cook to perfection and rich in flavor. Recommend to sit at the courtyard that has a beautiful ambiance and fireplace.

Yelp
Overpriced. Consistently disappointing food. Service can be very slow. A beautiful old building but that's about all it has going for it.

Yelp
The Big Bend area was more popular than we thought on a recent trip over Christmas/New Year. Higher end restaurants were booked solid; guess I didn't think of everything. Thing is we had a meal plan to eat at our rented house that we mostly went by. Century wasn't exactly on the list even though I LOVE the Holland Hotel. Wife and I were at a nearby bar hot spot when we called ahead to see if the online menu was correct. We had already run into an 86 list as long as a common menu in Austin. Not prepared for holiday visitors? We were seated immediately despite no reservation. We did our best to be done and gone to help with reservations; didn't happen exactly as expected because the kitchen was a tad slow. Bread and drinks were served immediately and we made it a point to order as soon as the opportunity presented itself. We started with the fried mozzarella. Cheese was perfectly fried and the marinara had a good flavor. Portion was on point for the price as well. I selected for my entree the goat cheese salad with honey basil vinaigrette. Artisan lettuce, red onions, and green apple was a excellent light dinner. Wife selected the butternut squash medley as her entree. Similar to a very mild coconut curry, the dish contained snap peas, fresh jalapeno, asparagus, onions, pear, and jasmine rice. Spicy peppers were more of a garnish but added a gentle nudge to the flavor. Wife suggested less cream (coconut) and stronger flavor profile. Let's face it; you can order damn near anything off the internet. Spend a few bucks curry powder including Panang, Tikka Masala, Korma, etc. Regardless, she was appreciative of a great vegetable dish in the middle...well far south west Texas. See ya next trip Century.

Yelp
This is a must when in Alpine. The food is outstanding. The charm of the past blends well with modern touches. Entertain is provided some times especially if you come during Viva Big Bend. The hotel and building are sautéed with history, even featured in magazines.

Yelp
Tonight I wanted a place that offered good draft beer, good food, and a nice bar to sit at to drink and eat. The Century Bar and Grill satisfied all three desires. Lauryn at the bar provided good service, I was able to catch the end of the Cowboys loosing to the Eagles while listening to Christmas music. My meal, Red fish with Cajun rice and brussel sprouts was very good. Definitely a place to go.
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
Didn't have reservations but there was room in the bar. We were able to order our food there. So glad we did. Great atmosphere, cold beer and delicious food made for a perfect end to our Big Bend adventure. I had blackened red fish, which was so good. My husband chose the chicken fried steak, which was as big as your plate. Had a bite and it too was delicious. Sam our waiter was super busy but took great care of us.
google avatar

Yelp
We just had appetizers and drinks and it was really good. Sweet bartenders who are knowledgeable of the area and make some killer drinks.
google avatar

Randy R.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner tonight, steak was cooked perfectly and the compound butter was so good! The lemon vinaigrette was so good you could drink it, and the greens were crisp and fresh. Brussel sprouts were very good as well as mashed potatoes (with skins). The service was great, would recommend this place to anyone!
google avatar

Yelp
We needed a place to go on a Sunday night in Alpine Texas. Yelp as usually helped us pick. There were very few choices. My wife had the root salad and really enjoyed it. I had the braised bison short ribs with mashed potatoes and green beans. The meat was tender, but the Guinness based sauce was spicier than I would have liked. It made it tough to use as a gravy which is what I expect in a braised dish. It was half off a bottle of wine, so that helped ease the pain of the bison being a tad disappointing. We sat in the courtyard which was MUCH quieter than the inside seating. It also was a great night for it. Also the Holland hotel is very nice to see while you are there.
google avatar

Yelp
We have been coming here for years but we're disappointed in our meal and drink tonight. The redfish was great as always, but the chicken fried steak was not close to what it used to be. It was very thin, and seemed to be from a frozen state. Not close to what it used to be. I ordered a mojito- brought my own mint as they don't have mint. The bartender used spiced rum, and while drinkable, not a mojito! Very disappointed as we love eating here.
google avatar

Dee A.

Yelp
We had dinner here. Then brunch next day. I had the red fish for dinner. Outstanding. Had the sugar skull drink--awesome. The brunch not as great. Biscuits very dry. Chilaquiles had an odd flavor. Bloody Mary had way too much worchestire.
google avatar

Head N.

Yelp
Blackened red fish was absolutely delicious and one of the best I've had. Food is prepared in the kitchen right next to you and the cooks are in sight. I like that.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
I hate that this pandemic has closed one of my favorite outdoor seating places. I LOVE the atmosphere here. The food was delicious...I mean really really good, with fun unique options that you don't normally get. The only reason this place is not getting 5 stars is because we stopped in once just for drinks and the bar tender did not seem to have much experience and sadly our drinks (his specialty from the menu) were undrinkable. Now, this was awhile back so I have hope that he has had some training and learned a bit more, or there are some new faces working who can pour a great drink. This place, once they open again, should be PACKED for good food and hopefully good drinks!

Yelp
We did take-out dinner (burgers) for us and our elementary-aged kids. We modified the burgers and they got each one wrong (and it took a loooong time past the promised 15 min).

Yelp
This is a weird one This place pretends to be full But it's really not?? My family and I made a stop in Alpine on our way out from Big Bend and decided to try and find a restaurant here. We walked into Century and asked for seating for our party of five and the hostess said that it would be at least a 40 minute wait. At this point, we were all weary travelers, having hiked a few miles and driven almost two hours before this point, so we really didn't want to search for more restaurants. However, as we left the restaurant and began our search for somewhere else to eat, I found that there were six open spots on OpenTable. I reserved a seat for five minutes later and we were seated in the back, where there were at least three other tables open (which remained open throughout the night). Apparently the hostess at this restaurant just didn't want to seat us? The food was very mediocre. I had a squash medley which was relatively bland and a family member said that the salmon they ordered was dry. However, one bright spot in this experience was that our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Would not recommend making a trip to this restaurant, given that they may not be willing to seat you. Get dinner somewhere else, there will probably be better food there.
google avatar

Bernadette A.

Yelp
We had never eaten there, walked in about 6:45pm.we asked to see a menu, which looked good. The restaurant wasn't busy, the bar was empty, so I asked for a table. The male bartender asked if we had a reservation, I said no, and we were told (quite rudely) probably couldn't be seated. So we left...as we sat in the car, looking for another place to eat, I looked up the restaurant and made a reservation for 15 minutes later(about) 7:15pm. Great food....awesome waitress!!! But bartender is turning paying customers away in a half empty restaurant?????!!!!!!such a waste!!!!

Yelp
Fine dining my foot. Not no. But, bleep NO! We looked at the reviews and decided to eat here. We were placed in the back right corner with menus. The waiter came out and brought us water. While looking over the menu. We were drowned out by LOUD rock music coming from the kitchen. We couldn't even have a conversation. I asked for the music to be turned down. The waiter agreed. I mean, who wants to listen to head banging music while they eat dinner. I wasn't in a dive bar. I was in a "fine dining" restaurant where a steak is $50 and a hamburger is $25. They barely turned it down. Then, I hear a scream and a squeal coming from said kitchen and see several young women hanging out in the kitchen pass through window. After sitting there for 10 minutes; that was the last straw. If your main concern is the music and the girls; then you give not one care about my $50 steak. I refused to drop $200 for my family of 4 in this dive, so we got up and left. I felt sorry for the waiter because he missed out on a great tip. This place deserves a 0 star. We ended up at a steakhouse on the outskirts of town, and I am glad we did.

Yelp
We had a delicious dinner at the century bar. The burger was outstanding. We recommend the vegan bowl with bacon! The cocktails were spot on. The waitstaff was friendly. Shout out to our waitress, Jo, for her outstanding service!

Cari M.

Yelp
Had dinner here. Food was excellent. Love the setting in the old Holland Hotel. You're free to sit by the fire in the hotel lobby while there. A very relaxing atmosphere. No loud obnoxious music, just a wonderfully calm & relaxing evening with great food.

Yelp
Beautiful bar and grill located in historical hotel. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, mashed taters, cream gravy and Brussel sprouts. It was delicious! Everything was piping hot and on point. Home made, freshly battered and fried. Service friendly and fast. Couldn't have been better.
google avatar

Yelp
We are here for Christmas vaca. We are staying at The Holland Hotel and checked in today. We decided to eat dinner here and it was great. For appetizer we got the house made hummus and it was so good. Came with pita, carrots and Kalamata olives. We took the extra to our room for later. Hubs had the ribeye and I had the tenderloin. Both were very good. Our waitress was Christy and she was very good. We had an issue with our card because we were traveling and she was so patient. We have reservations tomorrow night and we are looking forward to it. We only wish the bar was open later than 9. As travelers and on vacation we were hoping to be able to enjoy it more.
google avatar

Joe F.

Yelp
The bar staff is great, very attentive. The beer on tap selection is somewhat limited, but the beer they have on tap is good. I liked their burger, just a bit too well done, I probably should have asked for medium.

Steve P.

Yelp
The restaurant is good, but pricey, and they do have vegan selections on the menu. I had the fish and chips, which could have gone a little longer in the fryer. There was music coming from 2 different radios that sort of aggravated us, and they were able to get those adjusted. Their black bean burger was huge and impressive. The only big problem that I had was that none of the kitchen staff had hairnets on, considering the length of their hair.
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
Jeff was a great bartender. He made me several margaritas that were tasty. I asked to add Cointreau and he did. I ate the steak sandwich. It was very good. Came back the next night and there is another bartender who does not wear a name tag. His margs are marginal. I asked for gran marnier in it. I decided to ask for another one and he grabbed my glass. It still had some in there. I grabbed it back and finished it. He proceeds to make my new drink in the same glass. No new salt on the rim, plus no GM. I was going to eat the wings because they looked good. I think I am going across the street to try their prickly pear marg and eat some pie. I am basing my 4 star on my first visit. Hotel looks awesome, wish I would of booked here.

Yelp
Our dinner was unremarkable, but enjoyable. Would definitely go back. Fair prices and pleasant service.

Barbara A.

Yelp
We booked a reservation through Open Table and arrived a bit early. The hostess was very friendly and seated us early. Our server was nice and polite. We ordered the spinach artichoke appetizer which we all enjoyed. We tried several things on the menu and all were delicious although the Blackened Reddish was the favorite. We tried several of the desserts including the crème brûlée, peach cobbler and brownie sundae. They were all very good and much enjoyed. Our only complaint is that our server never offered refills. My husband had to ask several times when she came by for another Diet Coke, the rest of us had water or tea and they never were refilled even though our glasses were clearly empty. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and would recommend to others.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food, drinks and great service. The two items I ordered were amazing! I can't believe the skill the chef has here in this small town. It was an amazing experience and nice atmosphere. I will definitely come back if I visit again.

Pyra-Danny S.

Yelp
NICE, CASUAL STEAKHOUSE FOR A TREAT (Warning: young adults from central Florida in for vacation) After a full day of traveling we wanted a relaxing and upscale dinner experience- and Century delivered. It was a fancier atmosphere without being standoff-ish or unbearingly pricey. STEAK AND VEGGIES Hubs took the Texas Flat Iron Steak (on a seriously thick bed of Green Beans) - the Steak was lightly seasoned allowing it to shine through the light Merlot demi-glaze. Overall a good dish. My Vegetable Napoleon was a great Steak alternative- a stack of grilled Tomatoes, Zucchini, and Asparagus on a delicious Red Pepper Coulis. I didn't miss Meat at all while eating this. SOMEWHAT WARMING ATMOSPHERE Located at the entrance of the Holland Hotel, the bar is the first area of the restaurant you see. Vintage and inviting for those escaping the outdoors, the rest of the restaurant carries that feel. We liked our table which faced the chef's area. However all the servers we observed (including our own) seemed stressed and ignoring of us. I don't know if we looked out-of-place (I didn't think so) or young for the demographic, but they had a slightly off-putting tone.

Yelp
Beautiful, historic Holland Hotel offers a wonderful dining/drinking experience. Dining room and bar tastefully decorated and a relaxing oasis. Our Sunday Brunch was delicious, as was my Bloody Mary. Service was beyond impeccable. Hope we can squeeze in another visit before we leave Alpine.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely wedge salad and we split the chop. Juicy, tender, delicious. Enough to satisfy but not feel too full. Had the Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes as well. The Brussels sprouts were also tasty. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
First, Sara was our server, bartender, hostess, you name it and she was AWESOME! Second, we ate in the bar and had a fantastic evening. I had the Century Burger with bacon and bleu cheese crumbles. It was cooked perfectly with layers of flavors. My wife had the chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed potatoes, the steak was tender and the green beans made a memorable impression. I had the Ginger Fizz, she had the Margarita and both were expertly crafted. Stay in this hotel and eat in this grill you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
We love it here! Every time we come to the area, we make sure to stop in on our first night and then before we head to Railroad Blues another night. (At least those two times!) Carlos makes the best Long Island Iced Tea! The bar typically closes at 10/1030, but one of the nights we were there Geoffrey stayed open until midnight because we begged them to (and because the mayor stopped in at 1030). We feel like it's a must stop in Alpine.

Yelp
I was in town for Valentines Day weekend. We enjoyed a great meal at the Century Restaurant. There was a prix fixe meal of steak and lobster on February 14 and it was delicious. We were not rushed, our server was attentive, and the dining experience was pleasant. It was an enjoyable evening and was worth the price. We appreciated the obvious effort of the restaurant staff to provide excellent service. We were staying at the Holland Hotel and returned to the bar the following night for a drink before venturing out again. Our experience with the bartender was not the same as with the hotel and restaurant staff. He was not attentive, but seemed preoccupied with hooking up his friend with comped drinks (despite his friend's willingness to pay). In any event, after his dismissive affect we decided to leave and found another establishment nearby that was happy to have our business, and tipped our server well. I recommend the Century Bar and Grill, and would return to both as they are managed well. I'm sure the neglect of the bartender was merely a transitory condition.

Yelp
Everything about Alpine should be on your list. Go sit on the patio...read all the other reviews...it is fabulous all around. ESPECIALLY THE FOOD.

Yelp
Relaxing, fine dining after a long drive from Galveston. Service is prompt and polite. Love the atmosphere in the courtyard!
