Italian Cuisine Is Trending In Dallas | Eater Dallas

"I found a brand-new Design District restaurant from Chas Martin, a former Nick & Sam’s manager; J Chastain — a Stephan Pyles and Mansion Restaurant alum who reportedly spent four months training in Italy with a sous chef who had worked under Chef Massimo Bottura — will lead the kitchen, which plans to focus on freshly-made pastas and wood-fired dishes. It's now open for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday." - Alaena Hostetter

Don't judge a restaurant by the outside.....sometimes!! This place surprised me! Nothing inviting on the outside, but atmosphere changes upon entrance! Nice decor, attentive hostess, and MOST IMPORTANT.....The Food Was Good!!!! We were still celebrating from my cousin's baby shower the previous day and went to Brunch at The Charles! We had shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, potatoes, turkey sausage, omelets. It was ALL GOOD!! Especially the morning potatoes!!! Delicious! The shrimp were jumbo sized and it was all plated nicely. Even the owner stopped by and asked how everything was and if we needed anything. I would recommend and definitely go back again! Must Try!!!

$5 Taco Tuesday with $6 Margaritas you can’t go wrong! The chicken tacos with feta are delicious! We grabbed to go this particular visit so pardon the presentation of our to-go container pics. Their crab dip is so good and if you’re craving a real Maryland cream of crab soup you need to try it here! Monday’s are burger nights ($12 burgers) Tuesdays are taco nights ($5 tacos $6 margaritas) Wednesdays live jazz music 6-9 pm Thursdays half price wine bottles Fridays wine tasting with dinner pairings

03/16/2025- First time at a birthday celebration, nice private room inside with 29 special guests or more for the party. The server took appetizer orders first, drink orders, then main entree orders! Two local female musicians set up a small section for music entertainment. The restaurant is nice inside. I did not expect for it to be located in a business area solo. Parking was plentiful around the Restsurant front, side, and back parking. The waitresses/ servers were okay. It was super noisy and I don’t think they heard very well. The tables were not numbered. Causing the waitress to forget who, ordered what. My sister ordered first but for some odd reason; she and three other guest patrons never received their dinner food. The party is now over, from 4:00 pm to about 8:00 pm- the server never bought the three orders! But great party, great musicians, tasty food(spicy). Overall experience okay.

Google
Everything was delicious would have gave a 4 or 5 if it wasn't for my crab cake ... it was pose to be a jumbo lump it definitely wasnt...but that cream of crab soup OMG is the best I ever had... warning it comes with fish eggs but you can get it without

Google
Complete hidden gem that I'll be sure to return to and tell everyone I know as well. Fantastic customer service and delicious food. Can't go wrong here. Not to mention the layout of the establishment floored me. They get an A++++++ on everything!!!

Google
The Charles is a Southern MD GEM!!!!! The place down here where you can get quality food without driving up to DC or VA. I love how unassuming it is and they DO NOT MISS with the food. We were here a few times and enjoyed it. Left to live in Europe for a few years and returning home it is still popping!Flavor, presentation, and portions are ALL legit. I’d add photos but my damn plate is empty.

Google
Every time I go I experience another level of amazing food and the service is always five star. This is definitely a go to from a solo date to hanging with the girls or a date night it’s great for all.

Google
This place is magic! Clearly a local spot to enjoy with loved ones or just yourself. I came to Maryland on a work trip back in May, a coworker recommended the Charles -- I immediately was taken care of. Being solo, I sat at the bar and enjoyed a fabulous crab meal with cocktails. Wonderful service, live jazz, vibrant atmosphere. I ended up having a night cap with the owner while enjoying the homemade carrot cake (GET THIS!!). Can't beat it.

Yelp
Our experience at The Charles is always amazing! We love it here. When we talk about dinner plans the first words out of our children's mouths' are almost always "The Charles!" In a child's chant. I attribute this to the attentive staff who always make them feel special and are cognizant of our needs. The staff are friendly, warm, and create a true sense of human connection. The atmosphere (bar area) is clean, inviting, and has a relaxed vibe. I have tried almost everything on the menu and my go too is the short ribs, but the chicken piccata is very flavorful and scrumptious. My reviews are based on my opinion and perspective. While I read other reviews to get an idea of atmosphere ambience, they do not influence my perspective. In my opinion, if you want a great experience and a good evening out, you can't go wrong with The Charles.

Yelp
04/05/25 Wife and I stopped in for a late lunch early dinner, they have outside tables, a dining room and a bar area we sat at the bar. There were a couple of bartenders they gave us water and menus pretty quick, and took our drink orders I had the old fashion with house bourbon. We looked over the menu everything looked really good, we decided on the kale salad to start and cheese burgers with fried for a meal. The salad was excellent as well was the cheese burgers. The guy that fixed my old fashion did a great job their house bourbon was really good. How ever there was one issue that we didn't care for, the guy bartending was constantly running his hands through his hair. He would start making a drink out ice in the shaker run his hand threw his hair pour all the liquors in the shatter for a drink pour it in a glass then run his hands threw his hair. Even when he wasn't doing anything just standing behind the bar he would have to run his hands in his hair. He never washed them after putting his hand through his hair. If you can't keep your hair out of his face he needs to put on a hair net or tie his hair in a pony tail. He's a really nice guy great to talk with but even while talking with him he's putting his hand through his hair. Hopefully someone stops him. We ordered dessert to take home, we had the chefs cheesecake with a cherry topping. I had it later in the evening the cheesecake had a very good gram cracker crust and the cheese was very creamy the cherries were excellent they weren't out of a can. Would have given 5 stars except for the bartender running his hands through his hair constantly. Looking forward to returning to try something different.

Yelp
I came in for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the decor. It's very inviting and the space is larger than I expected. I sat at the bar per usual. I enjoyed this Expresso Martini it was so good. That's why the restaurant got the 4 stars. The salmon salad was good but nothing special. If I go back I want to try the salmon burger. The description seem like has a mix of flavors that I would enjoy. And I definitely would get the Expresso martini

Yelp
This was my first time I came to this restaurant. I was here for a private event but I sat at the bar until the party arrived. The Happy Hour menu was great and the food and drinks on the HH menu was everything! The parking is right in from but make sure to get there early. I would definitely be there again!

Yelp
We visited from a late breakfast and sat in the bar section, which was empty other than us. They do also have a dinning room section, as well as a patio section; and I think the in and out of the patio section has caused quite a few flies to make it inside. We had the breakfast plate and the biscuits & sausage gravy. The only thing I really liked was the cheddar biscuits. Afterwards we walked over to The Market, which was amazing, and we got a small discount from there for dinning at The Charles first. The Market at The Charles is really what keeps me coming back!

Yelp
Three of us visited and ate at The Charles on a Saturday evening at 7:30pm. It was not busy at all and we had a reservation. Atmosphere/Vibe: clean, medium loudness, modern, cozy and not too bright Service: hmm. Service was ok. Our waitress was very nice but she barely came around. It took a while for us to actually get our food order in and receive our check. Food came out at a reasonable amount of time though. Food: collectively as a group honestly it was mediocre. The food holds a high price tag which comes with high quality/taste expectations but it really wasn't adding up. The chicken was OK and had flavor but it was soggy with the prosciutto under it and green beans in a very liquidy sauce. It would have paired well with some sort of mashed potatoes or polenta even. The other chicken dish on the menu (chicken paillard) apparently was supposed to be formally removed from the menu so I couldn't order it. The pasta was nothing special and they were out of mussels. The braised short rib was good but it definitely wasn't worth $30. Overall: The Charles sounds likes a fancy place and a place that you think would get more attention on a Saturday night but it was very short of that. We felt as though this is due a mix of the food quality and service. The establishment really should lower their prices if they are going to push mediocre food. Also, why are sides $7 each?? Thats crazy
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
The braised short ribs meat falls off and melts in your mouth and is also flavorful and saucy with a hint of sweet. The glazed carrots could have benefited by cooking for longer as they were still a bit too hard. The Brussels sprouts had the sweet and slightly spicy kick from the sauce, so it was savory; it was a bit dry and could have been tossed around a bit more. The steak frites was cooked perfectly at medium and the fries were nicely fried. While I wouldn't drive out of my way to get this, if you're in the area and wanting a hearty dinner, this is a very good option. They were open until 10 PM on a Monday which is a rarity in the area.

Yelp
This place is a gem of Southern MD! The service staff was attentive and welcoming, from their recommendations to the quick delivery of menu items and timely table clearing. Now, on to the food!! The chicken lettuce wraps--let me put it plainly--my boyfriend said he's likely to sneak over on Monday night football for their $12 burgers and lettuce wraps. I ordered the Caesar salad, which instantly became my favorite; there is no other comparison in this area--you can take my word for it. The house-made brioche croutons will dare you to ask your waitperson to bring some on the side, lol. Their drinks were well-balanced and served in tall glasses. Our waiter never consistently refreshed our water. The braised short rib was cooked well, and the reduction was beautiful, pairing nicely with the mash. My only criticism is that the carrots, while buttery, were a bit lackluster in comparison to the rest of our orders. For my entree, I chose the pan-seared scallops at the bartender's recommendation and she did not disappoint. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were friendly and buttery, but the risotto was the secret weapon. Creamy and soft, it had pumpkin seeds and cranberries/craisins that SET IT OFF! I will have to try that in my kitchen, Chef; well played, sir... well played. I found myself forking through the risotto, looking for those surprise ingredients. Finally, we sat on their velvet benches in the corner of the dining room. Although we were clearly in the eyes of all the other guests, it felt a bit more private and intimate, which we appreciated since my boyfriend and I were celebrating an anniversary. The ambiance is warm and modern, with deep greens and blues supported by gold and black accents. Candlelit tables contribute to the warmth in the room, making it romantic and cozy! If you've gotten this far in my write-up, here's the overall scores: Location - 8/10 (I live in Waldorf, and this place is a reasonable distance considering the quality of food and service. Located off of Main Street in La Plata isn't too far for us) Food - 9/10 (We thought to pull a point for those carrots, but if anyone asks, the carrots won't change my report of "everything we had was great!" Service - 10/10 (Attentive and welcoming; shoutout to Ricardo [hope I remembered that right] and the female bartender for guiding us to the perfect selections based on our inputs) Ambiance - 8/10 (My partner reminded me that we did have to soapbox a fruit fly or two now and then in our cozy corner, but we didn't make an issue because it was clear it was only our area and others were not experiencing the same problem) THIS IS A MUST TRY RESTAURANT - please show them some love.

Tamika S.

Yelp
If you are in the Waldorf/Laplata area the Charles is the place to be. The food is great, the drinks are 10/10 and the staff couldn't be more accommodating! they great events like the Jazz band every Wednesday is worth seeing.

Amanda H.

Yelp
I must say, this spot reminds us of dining over seas, the casual and personal atmosphere. Between the managers, staff and bartenders, this spot gives the feel of family. We try to have date night once a month depending on our busy schedules and we are never disappointed. Just recently we celebrated our anniversary here and Millian and Dre both were a big help with putting together a menu so that all my husband and I had to do was enjoy the evening. Millan even paired a wine to compliment our dinner. The Charles always goes above and beyond expectations!! This is definitely a spot you shouls stop at if you are ever in La Plata, Md

Yelp
I came here during happy hour on a Saturday night with two of my family members. We asked for a table but were told there would be a wait so we settled for the bar. We came just in time for a sampling of Prosecco , pumpkin cheesecake, and eggnog cheesecake. All of the samples were absolutely delicious. It was lively when we sat down with modern music playing and many people at the bar. I ordered the calamari, the la plata burger with a Caesar salad. The calamari came out overcooked and I had to send it back , but when it came out the second time it was cooked nicely. The calamari was served with marinara and a lemon aioli sauce. My Caesar salad was also really good and refreshing. Now for my burger. The burger comes with bacon jam and mushrooms however I had those taken off. I asked for my burger to be made medium well, it came back twice cooked well done. The third time they got it right but it was a long wait for them to get it right. However, the staff was very accommodating for the errors and very hospitable. They offered me a free dessert and voided the burger for me. The burger was delicious and juicy and made me want to come back the next day. I ordered the apple crumble for my dessert and it was soooo good the apples were very hot and the ice cream paired so well with them. Overall the service of the restaurant really reigned in the 5 star rating, and I hope to be back sooner than later. Shout out to Jose the bar manager.

Yelp
We went on 9/16 and it was delicious! Our server Nathan was so kind and friendly! He chose my meal and dessert lol because I couldn't decide. The meal he chose was the short ribs and it was 10/10!!! So grateful I let him decide. The carrot cake, pumpkin cheesecake, and crème brûlée were also 10/10!!! I forgot to take a picture of our appetizers, but we got the cauliflower fritters which needed salt I think, and the king pao Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts are so yummy!!! Definitely go here and enjoy! My mom shared that the last time she was here the interior wasn't open and airy, but this time it was gorgeous!!! They have these wonderful green velvet barstools and lots of gold accents. There is so much cool artwork. Totally love the new interior she said.

Yelp
Every time my family and I visit The Charles...we are NEVER disappointed. The food and drinks are always on point and the service is even better. On top of all that....it's always clean and the atmosphere is always full of positive vibes. I love having this gem so close to home.

Yelp
Since the new owners/ managers took over, this place is the BEST! The vibes, the food, drinks.. ambiance is amazing. Customer service is top tier.

Yelp
I love the happy hour Munchies the food is great and the service at the bar was amazing also the ambiance is Fabulous!!

Yelp
Went on a Monday, wasn't very busy inside or outside. We sat outside for 20 minutes and not one employee acknowledged us, and there were plenty walking around going to the tables near us. We got up and left.
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
The worst service we've ever had. The truffle fries had zero flavor along with the garlic aioli. It took over 20 minutes to get the appetizers and drinks never came that were ordered right when we sat down. The management turnover continues to get worse. Good luck.

Yelp
1:49 4/26/25, Saturday Afternoon. My wife and I just finished Brunch/Lunch at the local eatery in LaPlate. I was greeted by Hostess London and I ordered the house breakfast which was pretty straightforward; eggs (over med), turkey sausage, cheddar biscuit, and cottage fried potatoes. EVERY SINGLE ITEM WAS OVERCOOKED. The turkey sausage and potatoes were as if they were cooked hours previously, the eggs very over-hard, brown, and greasy, and the Cheddar Biscuit cold and dense. I typically walk away from these experiences and just never return; lesson learned, however, the degree of a culinary disaster this was begged for a frank review. My wife had their Crab Cake sandwich; her response to me was, at least I'm not hungry anymore. In short, the best part of this experience was London and the other gentleman who greeted me at the door. I hope this was just me being at the wrong place at the wrong time, but unfortunately, in the business of food, you typically only get one chance to get it right, and The Charles failed miserably. Hopefully.

Yelp
Great local spot for socializing and jazz night on Wednesdays. Shrimp and grits are my fav. Drinks are good too.

Yelp
AWESOME JOB DARRIN & STAFF!! The Charles accommodated our large party and the food & service was impeccable! Highlights were the Short Ribs, Scallops, Brussel Sprouts, and the cream of Crab soup! The Bar menu, especially Bourbon & Scotch selections offer a wide array to fit any palette! The Charles is a HIDDEN GEM in Charles County!!

Yelp
I have enjoyed all of my meals at The Charles (both brunch and dinner). I have only dined there three times but I'm looking forward to trying more options. I love the live music nights! Sometimes service can be a bit slow but other than that, I really enjoy this restaurant.

Yelp
We went to THE CHARLES last night for dinner. Although we had a lovely time a few suggestions come to mind. Cut back on some of the "sweet sauces". The menu is "pricey". Should offer some type of bread to begin with. It is a nice quiet restaurant to enjoy a dinner but the menu should have a few changes. We had two appetizers. My husband and I shared "Heritage Pork Belly & Fig" which came out cold. We each ate a slice and realized it was cold. Disappointing. They took it back to the kitchen to reheat. It was a large size appetizer but eating a cold bite of pork fat was a turn off. Our Grandson and his girlfriend chose "Ginger Lettuce Wraps" and they were delicious. Came with two sauces. Did notice that several of the entrees had "sweet sauces". The Braised Short Ribs were tender but sauce was to sweet - should be a rich "beefy" flavor. The American Wagyu Beef Burger had "sweet, carmelized onions" which "covered up" the beefy flavor of an expensive burger. The Shrimp and grits was absolutely delicious. Beautiful presentation. Our server, Edel was very good.

Olivia H.

Yelp
Staff is unfriendly didn't offer us a drink menu, sever took our order came back 20 min later to ask for specification on our order instead of asking while we place said order, waited over an hour and still didn't get our appetizers or even complimentary bread while we waited just a half hearted thank you for your patience with no reason it was taking so long to even serve us our salad we decided to leave since they clearly didn't value our business:(

Yelp
My elderly mother and I visited The Charles restaurant for the first time on 12/14/2024. We had reservations for 6:30pm and arrived promptly at 6:25pm. Upon arrival we were told our table was not ready and we're asked to wait 15 minutes. When our table was ready we were seated in the main dining room and were not greeted by a server. After 15 minutes I asked for a manager. When the manager arrived I explained that had been waiting and were never greeted. The manager apologized and offered to pay for our beverages. My mother ordered the scallop entree and I ordered the double crabcakes. The food was ok at best, however the crabcakes were goofball size and the scallops the size of a quarter. For the price of $40 per entree the food and portion sizes could have been better. We ordered dessert to-go, a slice of carrot cake and cheesecake. Both desserts were over baked and very disappointing. Overall, considering the poor service, food quality, and portion sizes this was not an enjoyable dining experience.

Yelp
Set my reservation and everything. Very poor lighting outside. I went to2 closed doors and just left. Waste of a 40 minute drive

Cheryl S.

Yelp
We used to come here weekly when we lived in the area. Back for a visit and our first time since new ownership. Kind of disappointed. Ordered a $20 smoked old fashioned. Server had no idea how to present it. He poured bourbon in glass and waved the smoke over it. Nachos had been sitting a while as they were a soggy mess. Crab soup cold. Crab cakes were good. Overcharged for wine. Full price and it was happy hour. Hope this was an off night.

Yelp
Another great experience at The Charles. I finally made it for brunch after numerous lunches and dinners. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken tenders were seasoned well and crispy. The waffles were fluffy and sprinkled with delicious bacon pieces. We also had peach Bellinis. Perfect local spot for a great meal and drinks anytime of day or night.

Jay J.

Yelp
I went there to have dinner with my daughter. Food serving size did not match the price. The short rib did taste good but it appeared to be a kid's meal serving. I did bring that to the attention of my waiter. My daughter had the double crab cake and the serving size was small as well. In total I spent over $150 but felt I was short changed. Tim

Yelp
Went here with my best friend specifically for drinks and dessert. The overall vibe was fun. We sat at the bar and just hung out the staff was very nice but slightly scarce. They seemed to be a little short handed which has become the typical situation for most restaurants nowadays. The dessert was fire! This might be the best place in Charles county for dessert. The martinis leave much to be desired in my opinion, they could be much better but overall a great experience!

Yelp
Listen. Sunday is the one day that the clock does not control me. After the bed let me go and my body said "Okay", I decided to get up and go to brunch at The Charles. I am going to put a disclaimer right here. If you want it short and sweet, I am probably NOT the one to follow. But If you have a few minutes, like the nitty gritty, the details and "the feels", I got you I was treking with Friends on Saturday and they recommended this site as a good brunch spot. Since I am still fairly new to Southern Maryland, any suggestions and recommendations are appreciated. First off, this place is huge. It has a Public House and Farm Table, Club Room and Market all under one roof. They have inside and outside seating. The Beautiful Hostess took my name and advised me there would be a 30 min wait for my party of one. That was fine. That lets me know it's a popular spot and gives me time to look around as we yelpers like to do. I walked over and checked out the Market which is very cute and quaint. But it had lots of different things. Lots of unique gifts, treats and trinkets. They also had a wine and spirits room that looked amazing. I was texted my table was ready in 11 min later. Yeah me! I decided to sit outside and eat as it wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze. Yep ordered my cup of strength-Coffee. I decided on the Brunch Platter with French Toast, scrambled eggs(with cheese), turkey sausage and fruit(I wanted home fries but I was good). I am going to Ocean City in a Couple of weeks and Tampa next month. Still working on getting this body right for the beach(It's a struggle y'all for a Yelper who likes to eat). Honey! They nailed the food. My eggs with cheese were scrambled and seasoned perfectly, bacon lightly crisped the way I like it, sausage tasty, French toast has enough syrup(there were nuts on it also if anyone has allergies but I loved them), and the fruit was fresh and sweet. I am not sure I'd I have ever been anywhere were I didn't have to add more seasoning or syrup to my food, but The Charles is that spot. Spot on with the food. I went at 12:30pm so the ambiance was very relaxed and laid back and it was not crowded. Their brunch ends at 2:30pm. If I can tear my Husband away from His free time, I am bringing him back next weekend.

Yelp
OMG! I almost want to tell anyone but this place is a real jewel! From the atmosphere, drinks and food!!! Great for a date night or hanging with your friends!

Yelp
We had Sunday Brunch at The Charles ! I enjoy the salmon dish with the potatoes and broccoli, and babe enjoyed the ham and cheese omelette with potatoes. In addition to that we had a crème brûlée for dessert and babe got a pineapple mimosa and a cranberry mimosa and I had a peach Bellini. We found that the Charles did the pro Tien portion of the meal very well. My salmon was cooked to a nice medium temperature and his omelette was , very tasty and fluffy. I thought the salmon needed a little bit more seasoning or more sauce and addition we both found that the potatoes were a bit bland, so may be a little more love to those areas other than that we found that the mimosas were very delicious as well as the bellini. The crème brûlée could've used a little less charting on the top but overall the customer was really tasty. Our server, Angela was very nice and greeted us with a smile as she took our orders and delivered the drinks. They had different food runners, but everyone worked really well as a team and plates were cleared in a timely manner. Make sure you check the bill because sometimes their system over charges for the mimosas. Overall, I would say it was a great experience and if you're in the La Plata area you could add the Charles to your list of places to try. We will probably return for a happy hour at some point because they looked like they had pretty good happy hour specials! Until next time... check out my blog doseofdev.com for more food, fun and travel!!

Yelp
Came here for a lunch. Got the crab soup, crab cake sandwich, and slice of cheesecake. I don't know what it looked liked prior to the renovations, but the interior was alright. The music playing in the background was quite lovely. I had an excellent server. The crab soup for me stole the show. It was quite incredible, albeit one qualm. They had the crab in the center with some additional finishings (caviar and the like). Poured hot broth around the crab and added a dash of wine. I just didn't like that the crab was cold, but I respect the Chef's intention with the dish. Definitely the best tasting crab soup I've had. The crab cake sandwich was quite nice as well. Had a strong lemon flavored sauce that paired well with the cake. Lettuce and tomato were meh, but the cake/sauce was good enough to carry the sandwich. As for dessert, a nice slice of NY style cheesecake with a blackberry glaze. Not the best cheesecake I've had, but it was lovely. Having the sweetened, cinnamon pear with the cheesecake was a very nice pairing. Price was incredibly reasonable considering the entire accommodations. Looking forward to coming back here for a dinner sometime. And maybe a couple of drinks.

Yelp
Overall. I loved it!!! From the warm and modern ambience, to the drinks to the food-- I was impressed! I work and commute to DC so this restaurant is comparable to DC with pricing and selection. I visited on a Thursday night and we had reservations. My group ordered the Brussels sprouts- which were amazing. I haven't had any in comparison to them. I tried my date's ginger chicken lettuce wraps- I loved them! In addition, I had the strawberry vodka mojito and the pear martini which were both beyond amazing! For my entree, I had the braised short ribs that were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I unfortunately did not get photos this day as I was really in a trance with the restaurant- I am sure to return. Side note- The new owner/manager was awesome! He came by to check in on our table a couple of times and was extremely down to earth. I wish him all of the successes he deserves!

Yelp
4.5! This spot is great for brunch! It gives off a DC/NoVA brunch place vibe without being in that area. We've been a handful of times every time we are in the area. I definitely recommend giving this place a try if you want a good American brunch style menu. I'm sure the lunch/dinner is delicious as well.

Yelp
Happened to be in southern Maryland today and thought what the heck..let's give it a whirl. Parking was a bit of an issue..only because it was small business Saturday and LaPlata was busy. We haven't been since the concept changes so we were excited to try things out.. Upon going inside..there were 2 ladies ahead of us trying to decided where they wanted to sit. I give a HUGE shout out to the young hostess who was accommodating and extremely polite while sorting out the guests request. We were sat in the far dining room which provided me with a full view of the open kitchen..it was during brunch service and those cooks deserve a Pat on the back. They were pumping the food out with almost a ninja like proficiency. The food did sit in the window a little longer that I was comfortable seeing..but hey that's just me I suppose. The poached eggs on my dining partners Pulled Pork Benedict we semi well done..no runny yolk and the hollandaise sauce was not a sauce..but more of a light fall coat..not liquid but fused to the eggs. His home fries were divine though. My Rueben was delicious..the Cole slaw that I chose instead of the fries was house made and very tasty. They were out of bottle mimosa so we chose to go with two mimosa glasses to compliment our starter of Kung Pao Brussels. The reason for the 5 stars is based solely on Nick our server and how pleasant and professional he remained during the entire service. Long waits for drinks coming off the service bar and the lack of expo/food runner to get the food to the table have broken many a seasoned server..so kudos to you Nick..you're a rockstar! We will try it again for dinner..brunch kicks everyone's..you know what..no matter where you go

Yelp
We came back to try the brunch items ad we were pleasantly surprised ! The vegetarian omelette was very tasty and generously sized. Paired with a side of crispy bacon and a cheddar biscuit with raspberry preserves! We washed it all down with a cranberry mimosa that was right on point!! zGood brunch spot and servers were efficient and pleasant!

Yelp
I love Kai and Lucinda. The food is great atmosphere and staffing are professional and beautiful, very quaint atmosphere where you can meet lovely people from the area. I'm new to the area. I've been here now for about nine months and have been coming to the Charles since as a form of food and beverage manager with MARRIOTT. They meet all the points here at this facility

Yelp
Oh, chicken and waffles, the ultimate brunch power couple! Let's dive into the magic of this delicious duo at The Charles. Picture this: crispy, juicy fried chicken nestled on top of three mini waffle, drenched in a river of sweet maple and caramel syrup. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth that'll have you doing a happy food dance in your seat. The Charles has truly perfected the art of chicken and waffles, creating a dish that's a symphony of savory and sweet goodness. If you're a fan of this iconic comfort food combo, then The Charles is your brunch paradise. One bite of their chicken and waffles, and you'll be transported to a world of brunch bliss. The service is amazing as well. We were encouraged to view the wine room while we waited on our food. There's a beautiful selection wine and other alcoholic beverage the other half of the restaurant which also has a nice baker. 10/10 would recommend. lol

Yelp
The tables are way too close to one another. My friend and I could barely have a conversation without the woman next to us speakly loudly over us to her husband. The cream of crab soup was a rip off. They bring out this huge bowl and pour a tiny amount of soup into it. I don't care about the presentation or a show...people want great food! The chicken picatta came with burnt toast, couldn't eat that part. Our bill was over $100 for two meals, two soups and no alcohol! Won't be returning.
