Primo location on Boyleston by Copley Square. Easy walk to anywhere in downtown Boston. If you need to go further, the Copley T station is across the street. Front desk staff are friendly, accommodating, competent, and professional. Rooms are “European” sized, but clean and well equipped, with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, including a mini refrigerator. Coffee is served in the lobby every morning, along with stellar pastries, including croissants in the “best ever” category. We would definitely stay here again for any return trip to Boston.

The location is handy, but the hotel is nothing special. On one hand, it is one of if not the cheapest hotel in the area, friendly and helpful staff, and super croissants for breakfast. On the other hand, the room I had was small and had a distinct smell, the air conditioner was really loud whenever it switched on. The room faced the alley and the garbage pickup in the morning was also very loud. Rooms contain a half-ironing board as opposed to a full size. There was supposed to be coffee in the morning but it was out of order for 2 of the 3 mornings I was there. No hotel parking, you have to go down the street. Overall ok not more. It's a balance of cost vs quality.

The Charlesmark is next to Copley (MBTA) Station, and a short walk to the Back Bay Amtrak Station, a very convenient location. Buses also run along Boylston Street, which the hotel faces. I found the room comfortable and clean, and the staff most accommodating. In the morning, coffee/tea and pastries are available for guests, as well as fruit, included in the room price. I had a room with a window that I was able to open, which I especially appreciated. One nice touch at the Charlesmark is a Boston guidebook that can be found in each room for guests to use. And, lastly, on the blocks near the hotel, are many nice stores, cafes, and restaurants.

Stayed here as a couple for a night while stopping in Boston. At the time of booking it was the lowest price of hotels of seemingly comparable quality in the area at ~$170 (all fees/tax included, booked one day ahead, this seemed to be on a cheaper day for hotel prices in the area generally). Staff were nice and the room was clean and made good use of space considering it might be a slightly smaller room than other nearby hotels. The window just looked into a random alleyway which we didn't really mind, and you can book a room specifically with a view if it's something you want. Breakfast was just a pastry and some coffee. After we checked out, we had a few hours before we had to take the plane out, and the staff let us check in our luggage for the afternoon and pick it up later. There was no gym in the hotel, but we had complimentary access to a couple nearby places for working out / fitness if needed. Overall, I really had no complaints and had all the normal amenities I could expect for a short hotel stay at a slightly lower price point than comparable hotels with no unexpected surprises and a great location. I would come back if I needed to stay around that area.

There was a nice woman who is worked night shift. She was really nice to me and my wife. For her 5 start as well. Parking spot; we paid $44 but when I called hotel she who is worked afternoon shift told us $30. And breakfast is done at 8 am. But coffee was really good.

Stayed two nights of of the three due to my flight being cancelled. The hotel was very sympathetic towards our dilemma. The place was ideal and close to all the tourist spots. The staff at the café and hotel was so nice, I was happy to share my life experiences with them- my college graduation. I graduated this past weekend and was able to enjoy this location.

The Charlesmark was an incredible start to our trip. We needed a hotel room for our one day in Boston, and this hotel checked off several boxes: The price for what we needed (a room for a night) was the best in the area. It was close to where we needed to be. Its location is a great distance from several hot spots & places to be, like Newbury Street’s shops, the library, and the Marathon finish line (not to mention the marathon was 2 days prior to our stay, making this hotel’s availability and pricing that much better) The staff was very friendly, facilities very clean, and the attached cafe & restaurant were also charming, though we didn’t eat at either. Our room was simple with what anyone would need. There were a couple issues like some flickering lights and broken blinds, but the shower was hot and the bed was comfy. Overall a very pleasant experience!

We visited this hotel during the 2024 Boston Marathon and were very happy with our experience.||The hotel is literally at the marathon finish line--the location can't be beat if you are running or spectating! It is minutes from the Copley T stop, Newbury Street, and the Boston Commons. ||Our room was small (which we expected) but was clean, quiet, and well equipped. The room had a mini fridge (stocked with bottled water) and wristbands to be able to get thru the sidewalk barricades during the Marathon. There was also a microwave near the elevators (which was very convenient) as well as a library wall of VHS and DVD's--I was running the marathon so it was lovely to have a movie to watch to help calm the nerves.||The hotel offers complimentary tea and coffee starting at 6a and then complimentary oatmeal, warm pastries, breakfast bars, fruit starting at 7a. The Landwer restaurant opens at 8a and was in the lobby of the hotel.||On Race Day, the hotel offered bottled water to athletes and had a fun 'memory wall' for guests to write about their race day experience.||We would 100% stay in this hotel again--the location is great. If you are running the Boston Marathon I would 10000% reco this hotel--finish line is steps from the front door and really caters to athletes on race day.

Yelp
After panic-buying concert tickets to "one very special night" for an artist performing at Fenway Park, I started researching nearby lodging and found The Charlesmark Hotel! Located in Back Bay, right along Boylston Street, The Charlesmark Hotel is uniquely tucked between two fast-casual restaurants. There isn't a grand entrance or lobby, as it's just a front desk between a bar and the hotel's breakfast/brunch spot, Cafe Landwer. I booked my stay via Expedia and the process to check-in was smooth sailing! Because it was quite last minute, and around the same time as the Celtics playoffs, prices were higher than expected ($700+ for 3 nights). The SO and I both received a pair of physical keys (one for our room, and one to access the building after-hours). The room itself is quite cramped. One queen-sized bed, side tables with drawers, no closet, and a mini-fridge perched way too high. Bathroom has a nice dark stone feel to it. Something cool: there is a dial in the bathroom that adjusts the volume of the TV so people can listen to the news/music/etc. while getting ready for the day. There are 6 floors in total, with one of the lower floors dedicated to a DVD/VHS library and ice machine. The free breakfast consists of hot coffee, fresh fruit, and an assortment of pastries (croissant, danish). The staff we interacted with were all very helpful and kind. They were also easy to talk to and recommended local restaurants for us. The morning of our flight back home, it was too early for the free breakfast, but the staff member was nice enough to make me a hot tea. I feel the service we received really helped the rating overall. Definitely a cute place to book that is central to a lot of shopping in Back Bay.

Yelp
Charming staff, neat rooms, shower head at a good height for tall folks, and its floor is a rough tile guaranteed non-slip although probably a pain to clean. All the usual lotions and potions provided. Coffee and pastries by 7am. 20% discount at the restaurant downstairs. Fresh fruit at front desk. Man, I could go on.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel for three nights. On the first day, we notified the staff that our room phone wasn't working. They promised to have a service technician check it and replace it if necessary. Additionally, the shower head leaked constantly, creating an annoying sound that disturbed our sleep each night. The AC system also made a loud noise every time it turned on and off, which initially made me think someone was opening the door. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yelp
Amazing well kept secret! Hotel is nestled between the best of Boston ! Anywhere you turn is where you want to be. The rooms are tiny, bathroom tiny, no closets, well a small locker like closet, very tiny. But if you're single and don't mind a lot of No fuss it's perfect. Shelf space line the wall with TV is great,...fold your jeans and sweaters and place them there! Room charges change from $ 150 to 350 a night. Great free breakfast. Service people are all very accommodating and sweet. Love the free fruit all day! Location, Location Location!

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights. The location is great and just a short walk from the Back Bay station if you take Amtrak. I thought the use of limited space was very good. For example there's no table (we got the queen room so it's about 280 square feet) so both bedside drawers have a wooden surface that you can pull which can serve as a makeshift table. There are some flat shelves which offer plenty of surface to place things. There's a very limited closet but even that has wooden coat hangers, a foldable chair, iron, and even a small ironing board squeezed in. They put hooks next to the door so you can hang jackets from there if they don't fit in the closet. There's even a mini fridge. The walls are a bit thin so if someone in the adjacent room raises their voice, you can probably hear them. I detailed additional Pluses and Minuses below. Pluses: - complimentary wifi - no amenity fee. Lots of Boston hotels hit you with that additional fee so traveler, beware! - They have a Eyewitness Travel Top 10 Boston in the room. I Loved this! It's a very slim tour book and handy to bring along. - shower was small but water pressure was potent. Towels were nice and thick. Limited surface space in the bathroom so they had hooks for the towels next to the shower. - some of the lights have dimmers which was a nice addition Minuses: - Physical key to get inside your room. Might take you a fumble or two to get inside - The hallways are a bit narrow. Feels a little bit like a dormitory in that sense. - What's advertised as being available for breakfast doesn't match the website description. This turned into a plus in a way because the breakfast option was coffee and a bagel or pastry from the adjacent coffee shop which had pretty delicious pastries. - No daily scheduled housekeeping although you can request it if you want it. Overall for the price and location, I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
You are getting a charming little hotel room in the heart of Boston with a lot of little amenities like an in room radio channel. There's not a lot of closet space but there are four bookshelves (the fifth has art objects on it), two drawers under the bed, two dressers with pull out tabletops. The all in one entertainment center has a large 40" cable TV, DVD/VHS player, safe, mini closet with ironing board, refrigerator, tabletop, and pull out tabletop for more space. The windows display a magnificent almost floor to ceiling view of Boylston Street. A full-length mirror stands next to the small yet stylish bathroom. The room is not large (280 sq/ft), but its size is on par with any boutique hotel in a major city and everything is well thought out to maximize the space in the room. You can technically sleep 4 people in it with 2 on the queen bed and 2 on the fold-out couch-bed, but it'll be quite cramped in the room for 4, especially if you are large people. There is free coffee and homemade croissants for breakfast every day (along with prepackaged treats). The croissants are a delight and not to be missed. Most hotels giving you a continental breakfast don't even bake their own pastries. There is also a discount for the adjacent restaurant, the Mediterranean-inspired Cafe Landwer. Among the issues many people might have with this hotel is no parking (many people who live outside cities will never understand how anyone can live without a car, but if you want to bring your car, be prepared to pay a small fortune to park it at a nearby garage), thin walls (you can literally hear everyone talking in the hallways), and false advertising (the web site says we were supposed to be able to get complimentary orange juice). Since this is a boutique hotel, you get actual keys to your room and not a key card. Some of you might have issue with that. Still, the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. YOU ARE IN THE HEART OF THE CITY with all the nice shops and restaurants nearby. When you visit a big city, it would be just terrible to have to schlep your family from a cheap airport hotel to downtown Boston and have to pay all the tolls, gas, and parking fees and end up paying what you would have paid if you thought about it and stayed here instead.

Yelp
Great location! While the room is small it is a perfect hotel for sightseeing Boston. It is walkable to almost everything. While there is no on-sight parking there is a lot for 30$/night and it's only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The complimentary chocolate chip muffin and croissant in the morning were divine! The staff was great and there is fresh fruit in the lobby. I love when hotels give you a bottle of water in the room- this hotel had water in the mini fridge! There is array of DVDs and VCRs that you can choose from and watch in your room which is pretty cool. There is a Starbucks a 1 minute walk away. New berry street has a ton of restaurants options- you can't go wrong.

Terra B.

Yelp
Cute place but not worth the cost. Our room was a closet and I had to turn the garbage can over to reach the fridge which was set way up in a cabinet. I was given three different answers when I asked what the best way to get to Fenway was.

Yelp
I want to be fair so I'll start with pros: 1. Room is clean and nice looking. Nothing fancy, but comfortable. The walls are a little thin, but it seems like it's mostly business people so it's not the end of the world. 2. They offer complimentary coffee & pastry in the morning. 3. Price is reasonable for what it is. 4. MOST of the staff are very nice (see the exception in cons). Cons: 1. Do not book with them through any kind of website- Priceline, Bookin, Expedia. It's a horrible experience where both parties will repeatedly insist only the other party has the ability to do ANYTHING on the reservation. I worked in the hotel industry for years. I know for a fact that actually both parties *do* have the ability to work on reservations. However, they'll both pass the buck back and forth because they're cheap and don't want to help in any way. Beware. 2. Security is a little weird- the hotel is locked at night and they give you physical keys. If you're arriving at night, beware. Also: the doors don't have security latches that 99% of hotels do. There's a deadbolt, but it's just a basic lock from the outside and not very secure. 3. Everyone on staff was nice, EXCEPT for a man named Chris. I had a 4 night reservation that I needed to change to check in a day late. For context, it's not like I wanted to. I had a family emergency that required me to stay in my home city while someone was in the hospital. I missed the first day of a conference I was REALLY looking forward to. I called: - 2/25 at 8:52pm CST - 2/28 at 3:47pm CST - 3/1 at 12:13pm CST - 3/1 at 6:14pm CST - 3/2 at 5:52pm CST During the first call, I let them know I was arriving close to midnight on my checkin date because the website said to let them know if you were arriving after hours. The next THREE calls I let them know I had a family emergency and needed to cancel the first night. I also let them know I was taking the same flight the next day, so I would still be there after hours. Each time, they said they couldn't cancel it but Booking would send them an email to take care of it if I called them. Weird, since I booked through Priceline, but whatever- that little bait and switch is on Booking, not them. I called Booking: 2/28 at 4:06pm 3/1 at 6:01am 3/2 at 12:38 am The first two calls, they insisted only the hotel could take care of canceling the first night, but they also said they would email the hotel. The third call, they finally DID email the hotel. When I checked in, it was already bumpy. There was someone at the front desk that she didn't even work there, she was just "filling in". She then asked to write down my credit card info on a piece of paper because she didn't have access to the system. She was nice, but this was weird, and probably violates data privacy acts. I was so tired I just gave it to her and hoped for the best. The first morning I woke up in the room, I was woken up by the sound of someone unlocking my door. I was half asleep, so I'm not 100% positive- there's a chance with the thin walls it was down the hall, but I would swear on my life someone stepped into my room. It was unsettling and only made me worry about the lack of security on the doors even more. Went downstairs- barista was nice, front desk guy (NOT Chris) was nice. He said he'd make sure the door was good, and I left for the day. At 4:15pm CST I called again to check on my cancellation refund for my first night, but I also let them know I was considering staying another night and that if they wanted to apply the balance towards an additional night instead of a refund, that would be great too. They said they'd check with their owner. When I returned at night, I was cheerful as I typically am. CHRIS *started* the conversation by saying "because YOU didn't handle anything correctly from the beginning, we wont refund you". So right off the bat, a rude and misguided way to start a conversation. I asked what he meant, and he said I never spoke to them until the second day of my reservation. This is straight up a lie, per the many calls I've had with them throughout the week and I DEFINITELY informed them on the last 3 calls I needed to cancel my 1st night due to a family emergency. I told him that simply wasn't true. He said I never contacted Booking, which again is simply not true. They he said well if they lied, that's on them, but I failed to handle everything right. I told him that wasn't accurate- I did. I reached out to both parties MULTIPLE times. At this point, both of us are getting upset. At every chance he gets, he loudly says "YOU didn't do anything right. YOU handled everything wrong." I told him he was being rude, he asked how. I told him his tone and words were a bad attitude and he said "what, I'm giving you attitude because you didn't do anything right and so I'm telling you no? That's called growing up sweetie!" sarcastically with his hands in a prayer position in my face. He kept calling me "little miss". Do not stay here.

Yelp
The Charlesmark bar is not my favorite BUT it usually has open seats available. Back bay after work drinks are always hard to find at lolita's so sometimes I default to the Charlesmark. The bar is small but quiet and I always get a dirty martini :). Service is fine and the drinks are okay. The mushroom flat bread pizza is delicious!

Emily R.

Yelp
This small bar had a very pleasant atmosphere. It was not crowded at all, making it feel like a hidden gem. The bartenders were friendly and the drink selection was wide. I tried a Mass-Ave Mule, a gummy bear martini, a crantini, and an Italian Greyhound. All were pretty, interesting, and yummy. There is music playing loudly but not so loudly that you can't hear others talking. The bathrooms were clean as well. There was an upstairsish area with couches and pillows for when the bar gets too crowded. I would definitely come here again!

Yelp
A private social event brought me to The Charlesmark Hotel & Lounge as a guest one weeknight. I may have subconsciously noticed it in the past during my travels, but this was the first time I had reason to stop. The bar itself on the ground floor wasn't particularly packed, but our reserved up a flight lounge area was getting there! It was a more constrained space than we had enjoyed at previous events, but had a few nice seating options off to the side, and a couple of ledges for the setting down of things, such as plates and trays of food. For our bites, we initially had cheese and crackers. Their cheese were in the form of cubes rather than slices, which encouraged the taking of separate bites of the two. Ice water in a metal pitcher was also provided along with plastic cups, which saved us from hitting the bar just for water. Smart! Later, some of their flatbreads began gracing the ledge closest to the stairs. The simple Cheese and Tomato one was quite cheesy indeed! Actually, they were pretty generous with their toppings on all their flatbreads, though the onions clearly outcrowded the chicken on the BBQ Chicken. Tastiest, however, of the three I sampled, was the Wild Mushroom Aged Cheddar, which is a lot coming from this mushroom hesitant. The garlic lifted this flatbread above the rest, although this pizza itself was a little soggy, unlike the rest. Note: I saw a sign posted outside advertising their monthly Wine Tasting Parties on the 3rd Wednesday 6-8pm. $25pp for 6 wine samples, light appetizers, and signature martini shots at a casual mix & mingle. If I were more of a drinking person, I'd totally be up for this!

Yelp
What a great deal we got! I went online to find a hotel for our stay in Boston. Was looking for something centric, comfortable, clean, and not too expensive. After looking at different ones, we decided on The Charlesmark. Reviews were decent, photos on site seem nice, and found a cheaper price on one of those booking sites. It's a small hotel, not a lot of rooms but it's exactly what we were looking for. Reception area is, like I said, small. Check in process is quick. They give you two keys, one for your room and one for the front door. You see, they close at 1pm but, if you want to stay out later than that then you are able to do so with that key. Very convenient! Just 5 floors, rooms are for one or two guest only. Comfortable bed, little sofa next to the window, with TV, and mini fridge. You also get 2 bottles of water, the rest are for purchase at the front desk for just $1.00 each. Very convenient, especially at night if you don't want to go back out and carry them. Bathroom has standup shower, enough space to keep toiletries and some makeup. They also provide their own like shampoo, soap, lotion, etc., and two lollipops, which I thought was a cute touch. Towels are changed daily, regardless of if you hang them or not, and hotel toiletries replaced as you use them. One thing I do have to mention, and will take one star off because of this... Room was clean, beds were always made when we came back but, for some reason, every time we got back to our room there was a foul smell in it. After a couple of theories, one being that something died there while we were out, the only thing I could think of was that the person making our room would "use" our bathroom and closed the door immediately after. Thankfully we had a bottle of Lysol (came with the room) and a couple of sprays later the room smelled fine again. As part of your stay they offer breakfast, this includes, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, orange juice, assorted bagels (with cream cheese, butter and jam), some donut type pastries and fruits, and instant oatmeal. I read some review saying the breakfast was a "joke" but to me it was perfect to start the day, and later on enjoy a nice lunch out in the city. The lounge area to have breakfast is cute, comfortable and clean. It has several TVs for you to watch the news or games if you go at night. In the afternoons and nights, the bar is open. Also small but seems to be very popular. During our stay we saw at least 2 different company or networking events, and one pre-party to an office Holiday party. The bartenders were super nice! They were always happy to see us, asking how our vacation was going, making recommendations on where to go, they even pointed us to a really delicious brunch on Sunday. Their drinks are strong and even have some seasonal ones. In their menu, you will also find the "Perfect Storm" = Dark N Stormy, I always love a bar that knows how to prepare it, and this one was perfect! Also, try their flat breads when there. Perfect size to just munch on something and very tasty. They just started making them and I'm sure glad we got to have one. Once outside, the public library is right on front, stores to each side, restaurants, and so many other attractions at walking distance or just less than 10 minutes away from an Uber ride. Location of this hotel is amazing! Exactly what we were looking for. We even noticed the finish line on the street for the Boston Marathon. Imagine watching it from the comfort of your room... again, can't beat this location. Sunday, our last day, check out is a 12. We still had a few hours before we had to head to the airport... without a problem they held our luggage and allowed us to enjoy our last they in Boston. Back for them and they were securely saved under lock, we even were able to sit at their lounge, recharge our phones and got a smile and wave from the bartender. Very happy with our stay here, and recommend it to anyone looking to travel to Boston.

Yelp
I can't believe this place. Its a bit over 300$ a night with taxes and the room is so small. But this isn't what's motivating this post. I could suck up a tiny room. I got to my room at 10pm on day 2 and it's 90 degrees in here! I've learned from an oh so helpful grunt that the AC won't get fixed until the morning and that 'maybe' they will make an adjustment. They won't get me another room. They won't look to other hotels for their guests. No help at all! Nobody is willing to make this right!!!!! I want a full refund for every night I don't get air!! Will let you all know how this turns out!!! Update: 4:30pm 6/27/17. Had a note under the door when I returned from the conference. I've copied it to this post. I'm exhausted and wiped out from the day and last night. AC is fixed and I can expect a comfortable climate to sleep in tonight. I'm ambivalent as my miserable night can't be replaced. My company gets a great deal on the room. I get a drink. Hoorah? Update 2: As you see I didn't get full refund. Got back from my trip to find that I had been charged 100% for a night I was not there. Found out it was a mistake made by travel agent and now I'm stuck with the charge. Why is it their mistake is only worthy of a half night refund and my mistake is full charge. I feel so swindled. Update 3: 7/5/2017: Finally got an adjustment and some help from a management member that had to agree that there was an unfairness to them charging me full price for a booking error and then reimbursing me only half price for a night in Hades without air conditioning in my room. They gave me full refund on that night. In the end they got full payment for three nights. I got to expense my 3 nights and the error did not punish me more than the night of pain. Thank you, Charlesmark. I'll deal with the travel agency separately.

Yelp
Came here to use the $13 drink tickets that we received from attending their monthly wine tasting this month. Their monthly wine tastings are a pretty good deal - for $25pp, you get to sample 6 different wines, some martini shots, and some appetizers (cheese, crackers, fruit, chips/salsa, fruit), and you get a $13 drink ticket to use at the bar for a future visit. My previous review was for their wine tasting, and this review is for the bar. We arrived pretty early (around 5pm) on a weeknight, so the bar was pretty empty. We managed to snag a seat by the window and had some nice views of Boylston St. They have a variety of interesting signature cocktails and signature martinis, as well as traditional ones. My partner ordered "The Drunken Pear" (Grey Goose vodka, Amaretto di Saronno, fresh lemon and pineapple juice, $13) while I went with a traditional gin martini ($13). Both drinks were strong and well-made. I especially liked my gin martini because I'm usually not a big fan of juice in my drinks, and this was pure alcoholic goodness. $13 for a martini is a bit steep for me given my student's budget, but it seems pretty standard for the area and when you include it in the price of their $25 monthly wine tasting, it turns out to be a good deal!

Yelp
So in comparison to the surrounding hotels, Charlesmark out-beat them jn price and amenities. Great location-neighbored by many places to eat and shop. It was a clean and nice looking. I liked the lounge area. Comfy couches and computers to use. Light breakfast is offered. Note that although the site says 'full continental', that't not totally true. Oatmeal, bagels, and donuts are offered. I consider eggs/potatoes as full:) The room was a bit tight; the mirror actually seemed bigger than the bed itself. So, if you're sharing with a friend, consider space is limited.

Chris W.

Yelp
If I could give more stars I would! I spent 5 days at the hotel for a conference down the street. For most of those nights I was in the bar and had dinner and a nice place to socialize with friends or just work. The food and drink are reasonably priced and worth it. However, it's the bartenders Kat and Jefferson that make me wish I lived in Boston. They instantly made me feel welcome and like an old friend. In a world where customer service is seriously lacking these too amazing people shined a light in a usually dark world. Thanks you two! I can't recommend this place more.

Yelp
We went on a road trip in the North East and stopped at this hotel in Boston. It was a good 1-night stay. This hotel was misplaced from a small town in Europe. Overall, a great stay. The rooms, bathrooms and hallways are smaller than brand named hotels, but they are cleaner and better maintained than many well-known brands. We encountered no issues staying at the hotel. Front desk was helpful. Parking is about 4 blocks away and the hotel provides a 8 dollar discount to that structures rate. The Breakfast was lacking but served coffee, pastry and bread items. There is also a bar in the hotel but we did not partake.

Yelp
The whole review initially started because of a gentlemen name johanne who helped us get checked in early and efficiently! Last minute trip to Boston last minute hotel booking-- There's a lot of luxury hotels around this one but honestly as a tourist I hope you aren't staying in the hotels too long so this was perfect or my husband and I. For the price and location A+. There's lots to eat, lots to see, lots to do. Our flight arrived at 6 am and we took a lyft to the hotel. About 15 minutes from the airport. We called into the hotel hoping we could check in early but as expected no rooms were available since they were fully booked. The guy at the front desk allowed us to leave our bags and hang out out in the lounge. We hung out there for a few hours explored a little came back and was welcomed by another gentlemen name johanne. I believe that was his name. It was 12 and he let us know that some rooms were available and so we were able to check in early! He was quick, friendly and had us in our room in less than 5 minutes. Definitely would stay here again!

Yelp
Enjoyed most things about my stay including the comfortable beds and wide selection of music/tv. The front desk staff was awesome! Super friendly and helpful with any requests. After how great they were during our stay I was surprised that I didn't hear anything back from management about shards of glass in the sheets that cut up my friend's shoulder. My friend woke up bleeding due to glass shards on the sheets. We found that it came from the lamp next to the bed which had a large piece chipped out of it and felt like it was going to fall off when it was moved. I am not entirely sure how this happened -- the lamp wasn't above the bed when it we entered the room which makes me confused about whether or not our sheets were changed. I assume someone would notice a few shards of glass laying around while cleaning/changing a bed. We went to the front desk before leaving to let them know about the issue and ensure we weren't charged for bloody sheets -- they gave us bandaids and said that management wasn't present, so we informed them we'd be sending an email. I waited as long as I could to write this review in hope of getting something back from them, but it's been almost two weeks now and the photos I attached of his shoulders cut up seem to be nothing to them. Would've still recommended the place had they gotten back to us since aside from the glass, our stay was great. However, even though the front desk staff was great, I can't support a place where the management couldn't care less about customer experiences.

Yelp
During my college years I would search books, magazines, and even websites for "mood" images for my school projects. When I found Charlesmark's wide angle photos online I was amazed. During my Boston trip, we parked along Boylston street and walked up and down the street where locals played. I read each sign of every restaurant, bar, and shop. When my eyes read Charlesmark hotel, I screamed!! I couldn't believe I was standing in front of one of my "mood" inspirations!!! I had forgotten to look up the address before my trip. It was meant to happen =) Charlesmark is a small boutique hotel. Once inside you can see all of the restaurant, bar, and lounge area from the entry. I looked around and saw a desk with Internet access for guests. I peeked inside the lobby restroom. A design isn't complete if the restrooms do not match the decor! Sure enough, shiny red tiles, metal finishes, and bright lights. My favorite elements of the hotel were the leather zig zag wall pattern above the lounge area. Ekk still can't believe it!!

Yelp
Great hotel!! The location was amazing!! Walking distance to lots of fun restaurants shops and parks and the t line is directly across the street. The complimentary pastries in the morning were amazing and the cafe downstairs is soo cute!! We did the standard room and it was small but we knew that going in. We were able to keep our things tidy and barely spent time in the room anyways since we were out exploring so much!!

Yelp
I stayed one night at the Charlesmark Hotel because the typical hotels at which I planned to stay were already fully booked. The hotel is very small and almost European style - you get a real key to your hotel room (not a swipe card) and the reception desk is a solo operation. Truly, no one else is getting behind that small reception desk and reception isn't there throughout the night; if you are arriving late, I'd be sure to let them know. The rooms are small and relatively dark, but part of the darkness is due to the fact that the room is small with one window that opens up on to a busy street. For the small space, they do a really efficient job of utilizing it with a queen-size bed, small couch and shelves. The bathroom, on the other hand, is quite tiny but sufficient. Given the good location, it's a good spot for folks on a budget but you'll get what you're paying for.

Yelp
Me and my roommate love this place! It is one of our favorite spots because of the service, strong tasty drinks, and chill environment. Love their drink menu options and now that they have the restaurant side open it's pretty cool if want to grab good pizza/flatbread.

Yelp
Lackluster. The room is just ok. The bar is closed, and the only thing to do is watch TV... only , they have xfinity , and it's not working. A few local channels.... a call to the front desk doesn't help.., "I'll ask my manager about the tv service tomorrow ". I guess this must be Back Bay's motel 6!

Yelp
First off- this hotel has a great location. And that's where it ends. The room is teeny tiny. Microscopic. Furthermore, they did not inform us about parking when we checked in. Only until we were checking out, and by then we were told that we parked in the wrong parking lot and could not have it validated. So that was a huge oversight on their part. This hotel is very pricey for what you get and I definitely would not stay here again.

Yelp
HOTEL review only: Ummmmm....no thanks. Charlesmark has a great touristy location going for it, hence the two stars, but that's pretty much it. The room: We paid extra for a room on an upper floor that was supposed to be larger. The room was larger but had one tiny window overlooking the air conditioning units. No natural light at all. The furnishings seemed outdated, though the hotel only opened in 2005, and the bedding was cheap, though adequate. Amenities: No gym, no restaurant, no room service...not really anything available aside from a free, very limited continental breakfast. Staff: Really not friendly at all. On one occasion, our last night there, the key did not work in our lock. We struggled with it for a solid 5 minutes and then decided to get some help from the front desk personnel. It could not have been more of an inconvenience for this guy to help us. Cost: Cheap. You get what you pay for, I guess, though I've gotten rates only slightly higher at great four star hotels in town on winter weekends. General issue: When we arrived and got into the elevator, there were piles...PILES...of dirty laundry in there but no one to be found. We rode up to the 5th floor in the stank of that laundry. For the remainder of our stay, there was that same stench in the hallways of the hotel. As someone who is extra sensitive to smell, I can tell you this really sucked. I cannot recommend a stay here. Try the Lenox or the Boston Park Plaza, or the Omni...way better service, amenities, rooms, and overall experience. I promise it'll be worth the extra 20 bucks or so a night.

Yelp
Everyone seems to like the bar, but the rooms are a rip off. Not suitable for two people staying 4 nights (@ $200 a night). Basically no closet, no place to unpack, and not even room to put 2 suitcases on the floor. Plastic glasses. They could save a ton of money by turning down the water temperature and putting a flow regulator on the shower Will not return.

Yelp
Biased since we stay here whenever we come to Boston but the rooms are chic and modern, albeit a bit small, but the staff makes the stay great! Here for Jeter's last games and got the last room, booked a month ago. Every other hotel in area was $500+, called and got room on a Saturday night for $300. Bar/lounge area anyways busy at night though we have yet to frequent it, so I can neither confirm or deny the bartender's alleges behavior. Walking distance to almost everything from Fenway to The Wharf area. Love love love this hotel. If you're having trouble finding it, it's across from the library at the Finish Line for the Boston Marathon.

Yelp
NOTE: This review is for the LOUNGE ONLY. The Charlesmark Hotel Lounge is a classy and cool hidden gem in Back Bay Boston! STAFF: Friendly and inviting with no snobby air at all. ATMOSPHERE: Dim lighting, open center isle, and long couches line the walls inviting mingling. THE DEAL: For only $20, they offer a monthly Martini Party, a Wine Tasting and other events. These are, hands down, THE BEST BOSTON DEAL! You get 3 drinks, free appetizers and a free drink card.

Yelp
Review for Lounge Only- I needed a location for my 30th birthday celebration. I wasn't really into a big thing, just wanted some food and drinks and relaxed atmosphere. Enter the Charlesmark. I was connected with Jefferson, the Lounge Manager via another location. Jefferson was AMAZING! He was flexible and accommodating. I pre-ordered some shrimp cocktail and a cheese plate for my guests and then ordered flatbreads on arrival. The food was great. Everyone was happy and kept commenting on how delicious everything was. The reviews are true -the mushroom one was outstanding. The portions are quite generous as well. Our cocktail waitress Ann Marie was super friendly and nice. She accommodated multiple tabs, and cleaned up the table as we went. The drinks made by Jefferson were also a huge hit. Everything about this place is perfect. Thank you Charlesmark for help making my birthday memorable in every way!

Yelp
I stayed at the Charlesmark for a whole week on my last trip to Boston, earlier this month. I really enjoyed the stay, I really did. The bedclothes were luxurious, there was a great sound system in the room (even speakers in the bathroom!), the shower was simulated slate, giving me the feeling of a tropical paradise right on Boylston Street. The location can't be beat, especially for our purposes, we were able to easily walk to all of our favorite spots we frequented in college. Aahhh, memories. But I have to say, and I hate to say it, the hotel bar is WHACK. The bartenders there are rude in the sort of "we're too good for you" kind of way. The drinks are horrendously overpriced, and to be honest, they do not know how to correctly make a martini. Every single drink we ordered was shaken to death like an unwanted baby, resulting in shards of ice which significantly watered down the drink. I'd have to estimate that by the time my dirty martini got to me, it was probably 1/8-1/4 water. I resent paying $13 for a badly poured drink at a dinky hotel bar where the bartenders think their shit doesn't stink. Also, that dancing bear martini was a joke, it was little more than fruit punch, but at least it came gratis because of the free drink voucher we got with the room. 5 stars for the room, 0 stars for the bar.

Yelp
Love the bar area. Very intimate and modern. It's very red and white and black colored here. But the rooms, the rooms unfortunately are way to small and uncomfortable for my taste. Expect a full sized bed, about 1 and a half feet on each side for walking and a huge mirror about 2 feet from the bed that basically serves the purpose of making the room feel bigger than what it actually is. The pros: Nice tv, you can rent VHS tapes from the hotel for free, there is a great radio that plays music in the room as well as the bathroom. I think it's a fine place if you are just coming by yourself, but with 2 people, the bedrooms are a bit too small for comfort. Free continental breakfast and a nice lounge area with free wi-fi which is what I'm using right now to write this review. Good location. Within walking distance to Prudential, Copley Square, Boston Commons, Beacon Hill, etc.. Also, keep in mind this a boutique hotel, so I really shouldn't be comparing it to a Westin. So for a hotel I give it a 3, but for a boutique hotel I give it a 4. It's very convenient and cute, just way too small for my taste.

Yelp
On a busy weekend we found this amazing little hotel. Pretty little rooms and the best service. Would love to stay here again the next time I coke to Boston

Owen R.

Yelp
Would absolutely stay again. Primo location. Rooms are small, quaint! Staff friendly, no parking (few blocks away), about $28 per day. Room is small, but it's Boston, lots to do, no need for excessive time in the room.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at the Charlesmark. I was in Boston for just one night while I was in town for a blogger meetup taking place in the hotel's lounge, so I decided to make an evening of it & stay. I got a cheaper rate on Hotels.com than I could through the hotel itself, $169 for one night, booked the day before - not terrible. The hotel is very easy to get to & is directly across from a T stop, right near the library. The hotel is small & posh; the front desk employee was incredibly friendly & helpful, & I like that the door to the hotel is locked & can only be opened with an actual key, not a keycard. My room was cute & surprisingly spacious, with a GIANT mirror & mood lighting. The bed was crazycomfy, & overall, I was very happy with the whole experience. One-star deduction for the lack of room service. I ordering Maggiano's through Dining In, but it took forever. Wish I could've just gotten someplace from someplace nearby, but I had no idea what was around!

Yelp
Lounge only!!! If your looking for a real lounge, this small nook in back bay is it! It is a hidden gem and I'm so happy to have visited. They have a small first floor and a second floor that could be separated into smaller parties or be rented for a private party. I love that no one knows about this place because I wouldn't want it to be super crowded. The drinks are affordable ( surprisingly due to the area). The atmosphere is super chic and classy.

Yelp
My sole goal in staying here was to get a good night sleep. (I got the room via the Hotel Tonight app.) That was difficult as the bar 10 feet from my room was playing loud music past midnight... and large delivery/garbage trucks rolled into the alley three feet from my bed starting at 5am at several intervals. Beside being loud, they shook my room. Horrible sleeping conditions.

Yelp
Very convenient location and caring staff It is right by Copley square and a subway stop. It is very convenient and priced right for people going to the New England Historical Genealogical Society. Rooms for this rate seem to be limited so book ahead. Rooms are small but comfortable, clean, well ventilated, heated and cooled with a nice sound system. Nice continental breakfast in the lounge with TV and newspapers is included. On my last visit I didn't check the safe and they quickly emailed me so I could return for the items. I am so grateful that they took such care.

Yelp
I am a resident and I work in back Bay. I frequented this establishment. After having some wine with friends we asked for bill. I received my bill for $30. I graciously left $40. ( Mistake #1 ) We were leaving and bartender asked us to pay for another person's bill that they walked out on. We were then accosted and basically yelled at by the staff for bar staff not doing their job. A bartender tends the bar. If you can't tend to the bar, find another job. I would say bartender and management need some training on customer service. We were followed out of bar being yelled at, were they looking to get physical? I'd say yes. My female friends were afraid of a physical altercation. I couldn't believe what was happening. The bar is dump anyway, there's no food and the staff is pathetic and aggressive to the point of physically fighting their guests. Plenty of hotels and bars in the area. DO NOT GO HERE

Yelp
Horrible experience. I was stuck "downstairs" in an interior room with one window looking out into a lit hallway. It was dark and probably had the hardest bed I've ever slept in. The worst? It stank like sewage. I would have checked out had Boston hotels not been sold out.

Yelp
I wish Yelp would allow no stars. This place has the most racist waitstaff I've ever encountered. Being born and raised in Boston, I grew up in a diverse city. How is it possible that racism occurs in the heart of this beautiful city? 7/11 - we came here with ten people and mind you we probably generated a good percentage of their revenue that night. Were we not there, they would have had 6 other people. Later around 1 am, the bartender and waitress commented on a friend's sneakers and said they were squeaking and too loud. Please just sit down. My friend, not wanting to create a difficult situation or a scene, sat down and the waitress who makes barely minimum wage, had the courtesy to say, "ugh a bunch of Asians." Wow. That's crossing the line and more. Maybe Charlesmark is used to hiring uneducated waitstaff who has never seen a non Caucasian. With that said, we left. But it gets better. 7/12 - before we had time to share this within our Asian community, several other friends went to Charlesmark an hour ago. What do they hear but yet another racist comment - "must be Asian night again" I am shocked and will never choose Charlesmark as a place to hang out and drink, not when we are getting judged in 2014 for our color. I've had several events at the Charlesmark and 20+ people show up. As we are not good enough for your waitstaff (you know the people who serve us non white folks) I am not coming to this place again. Ever. Thanks for a great weekend Charlesmark!

Yelp
What is it about hotel bars that attracts not only those who stay in the rooms above, but the locals who live in and around the town where they are built? Is it their often-sleek design? Possibly the appeal that most fellow patrons will be strangers? Perhaps it is the obvious pick-up aspect of the singles scene? Whatever the case, which I've yet to identify, it seems these little dens deem a following, however transient they may be. The particular hotel bar has a few notable qualities, including a location right on Boylston Street just steps from the T and quite a bit of parking. The interior is modern and sexy, monochromatic grays punctuated with bursts of matte red. Plenty of seating along the bar and adjacent high top tables allows for small groups and duos to comfortably intermingle, and low music and good acoustics facilitate easy conversation. Add to this with swift service and The Charlesmark is almost perfect. Almost. To be perfectly fair, their making their best effort to appeal to their average customer, but it has to be mentioned that the cocktail list is a pedestrian effort of one flavored vodka concoction after another, the next more sweet than the last. After first glance, it was clear that I wouldn't be ordering from their list and opted for a Hendricks Martini, up, with a twist. Personally, I'd love to see just a cocktail or two of the classic variety, aside from the requisite Manhattan.

Yelp
I joined Daniel S. here for cocktails & cocktales one lovely evening after work. The bar itself has a modern style with a clean and simple appearance. The drink menu is original without being overwhelming. There's nothing I hate more than menus that are novels with complex descriptions that require 2 historians, an engineer, and a Catholic Priest to decipher. I don't remember the names of the drinks I ordered but I know that I had two different ones which were both delicious. The second one was a copycat order inspired by Daniel--his drink came with gummy bears! The bears were actually a delicious compliment to the drink as well as my waistline! They were also an idea I happily used at a recent Christmas party I co-hosted--gummy bears in all the champagne glasses! There isn't much else to say about this bar other than the fact it DID have good drinks, it DID have good service, and I WILL return for alcoholic beverages whether for business or pleasure. One noteworthy item would be that it was as if Daniel and I stopped in on a 'gay' night--we were sitting amongst all gay men...well I mean I didn't ASK if they were gay...but c'mon...COME. ON. Me: Daniel, is this a gay bar? Daniel: No...why? Me: Look around, it's all gay men. Daniel: That's weird. Me: We're the hottest. Daniel: I know.

Yelp
Do not come here for New Year's Eve party. It was not fun and falsely advertised seeing fireworks last night. I could not see them and was next to the window. It was a mixture of people but it was dead and not worth the $38 per person. The space was small and it was just like hanging out in a living room. There was nothing exciting for NYE. Do not come here for New Year's, save your money.

Yelp
This really is a darling hotel. Its very tiny though and we really understood the meaning of tiny when we walked into the room... For what we needed at the time it was cool, cute and tiny. But in all honestly once we got bridesmaids dresses and make up and hair shit, oh and 10 girls inthere... not so cool any more. We also didn't like getting fussed at by the fucking house keeper. Saying that there was too much stuff in the room and that it was dangerous.... my girl went off on her. But the skank put our dresses in the cramped closet after they were obviously hung so that they wouldn't get wrinkled....seriously that bitch should be cut. Thanks hotel peeps for letting us use ur lobby area as a make-up station and for holding my bags well past happy hour!

Yelp
The Charlesmark Hotel is a magnificent pick for medium sized groups (50-60 people). My friends searched out a venue for our social group's holiday party by using some of the following criteria: ~could accommodate a group of our size ~centrally located (preferably near the T) ~would give us good bang for our buck ~would be upscale atmosphere for a cocktail party Once we'd narrowed it down to a few choices, after actually checking out the venues, the Charlesmark was the clear favorite. ...and they absolutely delivered. Walking in, it was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Red and white, plenty of couches and table space, but lots of room to mingle in the middle. All in all, a smart set-up. We had to spread out a little to get people away from crowding around the food, but it didn't take too much herding. On this horrifyingly frigid cold night, I was thrilled that by the time I got to the Copley T-stop I basically just needed to run across the street, instead of having to do any kind of crazy city traversing. Though the atmosphere, size, and location all sold us, it was really how much they were giving us for our money that was most impressive. In charging our members only $20/person, that included one free drink apiece (wine/beer/champagne/mixed drink), and a couple trays of appetizers - a beautiful veggie tray (really nicely laid out with some not-so-average veggies mmmmm asparagus), a nice cheese tray with wheat thins, some of the best chicken satay I've ever consumed, and some delicious chicken spring rolls as well. For a 4-hour reserved beautiful space, drinks, and food, this place was a steal. Of course, all of these wonderful things are nothing without stellar execution, which I'm pleased to say did not let us down. Kristen, our server, was quick with our drinks, extremely attentive, cheerful the whole evening, brought us constant trays of water (the throats of chatty kathys run dry easily), and even played photographer when necessary. I made sure that a couple times during the night I thanked her for what an amazing job she was doing - being the sole waitress for a crowd of 50+ for 4 hours is a difficult thing, but even more impressively she told us it was only her 2nd night on the job! She ROCKED! If you're looking for a location for your mid-size holiday party, go here. Just don't take it away from us on the dates we want, or we'll get feisty on your ass.

Michael N.

Yelp
First off - this is only a review of the lounge. I enjoyed an awkward first date at the lounge here. It was all that an awkward first (and last) date is supposed to be - awkward moments of silence, stolen glances at clocks, silly excuses to end things early, alcohol to soothe the pain. Music was at a low enough volume that we could hear each other talk (maybe volume would have helped the date!). The bar is very modern and chic. Seems like a great first date place, if you and your date have something in common. Bathroom was quite clean and nice and it offered a nice (much needed) reprieve. The bartender, Vanessa, was nice and seemed to understand the pain. She even made the comment after wards that she had "seen worse first dates". Dishonesty is not typically a trait I value, but after that date I appreciated it. I'm mostly a beer sort of guy and this is mostly a martini sort of bar. I think they had 4 beers on tap or something like that. Made me a little sad. The martinis looked good if you're into that sort of thing (I won't judge). Honestly, a really nice bar and I blame zero chemistry, not it, for the awkwardness!

Yelp
Marijuana Motel - Pros: Clean, nice sound system in room, great location in Copley Square area. Friendly staff. Cons: Smelled like marijuana in elevator. Hallway on 5th floor, where our room was, smelled like marijuana smoke. Two separate times coming in and out it seemed that way. Eventually the smell of marijuana smoke started coming through the HVAC vents. We called down to complain and they said they'd "look at it." I don't like any kind of smoke smells, but somehow certain people think marijuana is ok. I don't agree. If you love marijuana The Charlesmark is for you.
