I haven't been to Santa Monica in such a long time.Meatloaf no gravy
last time traveling in Dubai found CF struck me as funny... the Bar, in a dry Country NO ALCOHOL, comfort foodn my trusted meatloaf & it proved to be the same. Moist, tender & delicious, same potatoes & spinach that's when you know a Company family owned & they even had met David!!! He was hands on opening the restaurant/ a lot thinner than the old days... as a teen, the Cheesecake Factory was literally a warehouse in Warner Center, Woodland Hills California wit a little front that sold Sandwiches & salads & 1 location in Beverly Hills, Beverly Drive California.
Knowing as Santa Monica has all but completely gone out of business, I drove down going to Nordstroms selling fixtures... another sad goodbye & buying displays & makeup counter display items for my Makeup Studio in Culver City, California.
Settling on the Meatloaf instead of the Salmon sitting outside I was honestly in heaven... in the craziness of Los Angeles the past well year... it was home... after losing all of my Malibu Childhood... it felt relaxing. We have all been through the traumas together from Fire to ICE.
Well my food arrived & it was hot & yummy spinach & potatoes... the meatloaf lacking the onions (never gravy) it looked dry & honestly burnt.... but still excited... OMG it was tough crisp dry & well awful never have I ever I don't like to complain, especially since all the tough times restaurant have gone through... I don't send food back... we need to support our local restaurants, more than ever. I had Googled to make sure they were still there (earlier I was downstairs at Nordstroms & hadn't seen it)
I called over the very sweet waitress, & said I hate complaining but it was not edible (took a picture) she said it's how they make it now.
I know that's NOT HOW THEY MAKE IT!!!
I finally whispered to a male (not sure if another server for a manager) this heavy set woman, not quite as polished as normal & definitely with a chip... I understand this location is primarily tourist & not always easy. (Not Jennifer from TopangaSherman Oaks lovely or Beverly Hills/ family)
She literally said to me... it's made every day in the morning & put in a grill (thought she even said a machine & heat up to old food) she said she's been there 17 years & do I know how long meatloaf takes to cook fresh.... I nearly dropped!!! & said do you know how long it took me to Drive & find parking in Santa Monica (normally I would take thevl metro from Culver City, have lunch & take the Metro expo line last 7? Years) I said yes I knew how long it takes to cook /caregiving my mom now living with me at my House in Culver City, its harder to get away... learning to cook for mom. So yes & I understand that prices have gone up & Meatloaf is now $2 different than the best Salmon in the world/ normally get the small order, but mom would be excited for the take home.
I was literally floored by that response... saying they have made it in the morning & did that for 17 years... NOPE Cheesecake Factory has consistency & you can count on that... if DUBAI can be consistent as Beverly Hills....
She took it off the bill but never returned? & I hadn't ordered a drink... so I didn't know if I just leave... waiting at long time, Having little cash... left some money for tip & got up. The sweet waitress said what happened, did she take it off & told her what was said she said our food is made fresh & I said I know, I have eaten here nearly my whole life.
She went to speak to the manager as we both walked to the front, I felt uncomfortable just walking out, especially in Santa Monica (was wearing my Chanel Runners & black designer tracksuit, Henri Bendel backpack... I was not a homeless person or tourist, I was alone because I went to Nordstroms for business equipment. )
She came back & apologized.
I understand times are difficult, we are all under stress in Los Angeles (County) whether Santa Monica, Culver City or Beverly Hills.... life hasn't been easy... & going out is almost a luxury. I bought in Culver City 24 years ago... & I can't even afford regular dining in Culver City now... everything has gone insane... we do need to count on our favorites.... literally when the metro expo opened... my favorites was taking the train right to Old Bloomingdale, walking through into Cheesecake Factory lunch & going back to my studio to continue working.
I really felt it was important to share & understanding its a long review...
Mostly because I care that you stay in business... walking around 3rd Street I literally felt so sad... its all gone...
I felt good about spending money in several small shops... Cheesecake Factory (its now global) but for me is locally small business... I've known David my whole life.
