I visited The Cheesecake Factory this Sunday for brunch with my son and a friend. When we arrived, the downstairs dining area was practically empty—just one family was seated. The hosts asked if we’d mind sitting downstairs, but we requested to be seated upstairs since we could hear more activity from there—it felt less like a ghost town.
Upstairs, a second host seated us at a table in the back, right next to a plating station with a small sink. It was freezing, especially on such a gray, overcast day. We asked to move, but the host said the section to the right was closed—despite the fact that we could see a family of about seven seated there.
We ended up moving just one table over. The upstairs area was *not* full, so the restriction didn’t make much sense. Then, a man who we thought was our server came over and told us we *could* sit in the section we originally asked for. Why did the host upstairs say no in the first place?!? It honestly made us feel undervalued and uncomfortable.
I ordered the chicken and waffles, and honestly—it was disappointing. The waffle had a spongy, undercooked texture, and the chicken was just a few overly crunchy, underseasoned strips. It tasted like crunchy leather—no flavor at all. Everything we ordered tasted rushed and underwhelming. I won't even talk about the "scrambled eggs." My son was served a fried egg that was sliced multiple times. Weird. Did the cook just forget how to scramble? (It's just the CF way I guess. Everything just taste underwhelming and corporate).
This was my first time eating at Cheesecake Factory since undergrad—and that was only once. I can't say I regret not coming back sooner. I only visited this time because it was my friend’s suggestion.
I will say: Our server and the busser who helped us move to a better table, could have saved the day if we were there for anything but food. They were warm, kind, and attentive—truly great.
Would I come back for the food? No. It just wasn’t good. For a Sunday brunch, the place was oddly empty. The tables were old and scratched, and the overall decor felt tired. It all needs a refresh.
Corporate really needs to revamp SOMETHING. The model just doesn't work I don't think for today's diner.
