We stayed here with our little boy in the Cavendish Suite. From start to finish everything was perfect. Staff service is exceptional, everyone was so friendly. Particularly the door men! Our room was beautiful and so big, the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was amazing, highly recommend the full English. I'd definitely come back again. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so wonderful.

Stayed here before a few times , Upon arrival we we greeted and bags were taken to our room that was lovely . Prior to the booking I called to ask about the spar , was a very rude lady on the phone she just answered with hey” moving on check in was great was allowed to go into the room early , the receptionist had a lot to tell us about the building ext and history that was interesting, it was our anniversary and we kindly had a card but was mr and mrs Roberts , ( we aren’t mr and mrs) not a big deal but felt like training needs to be done as that’s an assumption that could make a lot of people upset . Not a big deal . The next day we had breakfast service a little slow but was fine tasty fresh fruit . After we went on a walk and a day out we walked back in to book the spar for the following day and the reception who was extremely rude was being blunt and off with us as we said we wanted to book ext until we mentioned we were staying in the hotel then he changed his attitude up ( yes we were wearing joggers but we just went on a long walk ??) don’t judge a book by the cover ) we went for a drink at the bar and we had a few cocktails that were great but seemed a little overpriced £35 for 2 or something along those lines . We ordered room service for breakfast only 40% of the stuff we ordered arrived but just couldn’t be bothered to call up to chase it not going to lie . That morning we went for the spar before checking out , the lady at reception was so lovely and kind but the spar was probably the worst that we ever been to , it was absolutely freezing , walked in and it was colder in there than outside , sauna was broke , steam room was absolutely freezing , foot spar was legit like a sink in the floor , relaxation area “ was Baltic , we did a 360 , felt a bit disappointing this stay I can’t lie , was a special occasion but it’s not a big deal . We did complain and spoke to a manager but nothing really was done about anything would expect something after all off this , not mentioning the cleanliness off the room also hairs in the bed and in the bath ext but didn’t mention this as didn’t want to complain too much but felt like people need to be aware would love to come back as I absolutely love this hotel and have stayed a couple times but felt this time it was not up to scratch would like to have an email to the manger to talk about this would be great

It was a lovely stay. Special birthday for my mum. Couldn't fault anything. Food, service, staff, and menu's were excellent. Thank you to Emma on reservations and Kevin and team on valet parking.

Upon arrival the doorman and valet parking was excellent. The receptionist was very poor. We arrived in our room with no information about the hotel or what it offered. No idea of the WiFi code whether room service was available or how to adjust the room temperature.|The lighting in the room was so bad I genuinely had to use the torch on my phone to search through my suitcase. And you can’t use the table once it’s dark as there’s no light in that area at all.|Sat in the room I’m assuming there’s a nightclub close as it sounds like there’s a radio on in the bathroom.|Our evening meal was horrible. I had the Cod and I couldn’t eat most of it, was so salty and the chips were hard. Husband said it was the worst steak he’s ever had part of it was raw while other bits were burnt. Honestly we’d of enjoyed our meal more and not come away hungry had we eaten at the weatherspoon.|Breakfast was ok. Not worth the money, service was slow. |Overall I’ve stayed in many many 3 star hotels that looked after you better.|Very disappointing way to waste £1000

Surprised to see the bad reviews. We stayed one night in between Christmas and new year. We had dinner at the brasserie. A lovely stay all round with no complaints. The staff were attentive and helpful. The food at dinner was delicious and we would definitely return.

Popped in for a cheeky wine with my wife and as ever you enter a calm oasis of old fashioned civility and impeccable service at the best bar in town.....by a million miles. A superb glass of wine sipped at an unhurried pace served by young attentive professional staff. Just..... lovely!

Lovely hotel and great location however the room was disappointing for the price, one of the armchairs was badly damaged and the other brown stains on the material. Sections of wallpaper were peeling off which gave it a very tired appearance. The iron board was also broke and we had to prop it up on a chair. The room we booked looked nothing like the images on the advertisement and I had to check with reception we had the correct room. For £330 a night I don’t feel we had a premium room, the staff however were lovely and very welcoming.

Had an excellent stay at the Grosvenor! Went for my partners birthday on Boxing Day. We had room 320, which has a really fabulous viewpoint! We had the Arkle Restaurant tasting menu - 5 course Boxing Day lunch - which was gorgeous! Room was traditional, cosy and really comfortable. Staff were really helpful, we had a lovely welcome - thank you to the team.|We parked in the Grosvenor Car Park, easy direct access to the hotel from level 2, loved the entrance, really special and lovely!

Yelp
Given that The Grosvenor is meant to be Chester's premier hotel, our experiences were very disappointing. Service was consistently poor, staff were mostly unfriendly and what was meant to have been a 'special' weekend ended up being a real let down. I hasten to add that none of the negatives we experienced were down to Covid-19. The only positive experience during our stay was the wonderful lady who served us drinks in the brasserie. Sadly for the Grosvenor, the service she provided only amplified how poor most other elements of our stay had been.

Yelp
Based on my knowledge I can safely say that 'The Grosvenor' is a class act with a regal background aligned to the fact that it is owned by and named after the family of The Duke of Westminster. You know... that spot in London where the Abbey is! Fair play to the management for ensuring that the interior has a modern contemporary feel and everyone who will take care of you here has that uncanny ability to make you feel like you are their one and only guest. The rooms are well kitted out and you have somewhere to park your iPod, Bose to play your toons, top toiletries but above all this they have the most comfortable beds I have ever passed out on and powerful showers to revive you just in time for brekkie. The main restaurant was recently revamped and renamed "Simon Radley" and still holds it's Michelin star and 4 AA rosettes. It is not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for and if you are a wine buff then have a chat with the sommelier here as he has the keys to a cellar with 1000+ bins. If he can't suit you up with a bottle then you shouldn't be drinking. The other alternative for less formal eats is The Arkle Bar and Lounge where you can get light lunches and cocktails or just grab a beer and bite before heading off to the races for the afternoon or a night out in town. This bar is a major meeting place during race weeks so either get in early or be prepared to wait. If you really want to push the boat out then try their traditional afternoon tea or go one step further for the Indulgent Champagne Afternoon Tea @£35 per person, ..chilled glass of champagne with strawberries and clotted cream ..hand made sandwiches on freshly baked bread ..freshly baked plain and fruit scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserve ..home made French pastries and fancies ..freshly brewed Tea and Coffee And to those gentle foreign souls exploring the wonders of merry England ... should you happen to peruse the Gentleman's Afternoon Tea @ £25 per person and recoil in horror by the offering of 'hand made filled crusty bloomers' and scream out "no way will I be eating anyone's 'filled crusty bloomers" Fear not .... a crusty Bloomer is a type of bread, tis all :) Why only 4 stars you may ask, I hold back one star due to the prices here. As good as everything is their margins are a bit too steep for me, a prolonged stay here can seriously beat up your bank balance. It seems the previous reviewer (Chris P) has had some kind of brain fart and removed Chester from the map of England? Scuse me! Chester has never been formerly( or latterly) known as Cheshire. For your edumacation Chester is actually the county Town of Cheshire. Unlike Chris P, i HAVE stayed here, eaten here and drunk myself silly here too many times to count but never tried the massage services from the newlyweds! note bene .... if you are 'FTR' then post a pic to help the business ps FTR is First to Review ...

Yelp
I chose to go her for my 40th Birthday as a treat with my family (I didn't dare look at the price but I think the A la Carte menu was around £85 per person!). The Bistro at the front of the hotel is very pleasant, but if you want something a bit more special then it has to be The Arcle restaurant. The waiters were very friendly and attentive-service was excellent. Although we did wait half an hour before being taken to our table. The seating was incredibly comfortable and the dining room cosy. I was amazed by the selection of breads on offer - never mind the cheeses! I am not a fan of seafood but found the menu was weighted quite heavily in that direction on this occasion. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed every course. If you park in Pepper Street car park, you can walk straight into the hotel:) Booking is a must - watch our for Race days!

Yelp
In the heart of Chester (formerly known as Cheshire), this hotel was an excellent location for my boyfriend's sister's wedding. The banquet hall reserved for the dinner was far from the main entrance. While that meant we had a long walk up the stairs, it made the event even more private. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, and made sure all of the guests were satisfied. While the majority of the hotel staff were young, attractive men, it did not alter the level of service in any way. If anything, the eye candy made it better! I don't know how the hotel is for staying, but I did hear good things about the spa (mainly the massage services) from the newlyweds.

Yelp
This is by far the best hotel I've ever stayed in. It has a fantastic spa, does the best full English breakfast and has the most gorgeous range of rooms and suits. Excellent for a special occasion, a pampering weekend away or sheer luxury. The Grosvenor has a great central location in the heart of Chester, with the shops and site seeing on the doorstep. Can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
solid hotel though could use a bit of sprucing up, nothing major. solid service. greeted at the door, indivudal desks to check in. room was ready early. they make you feel welcomed...... solid location, middle of town, the wall walking is right out the door...great to go for a walk early morning.... the room was large. lots of room to spread out. separate working area. Wifi included (was a bit slow). the bathroom was nice. the breakfast was solid.

Yelp
This is such a lovely hotel, we come here for special special occasions. There's internet in the rooms, Molton Brown products and robes/slippers in the bathrooms, gloriously comfortable beds and a breakfast you should probably starve yourself in advance for. The spa is also wonderful, quite small and the dressing room is teeny tiny, but the therapists are great and the treatments lovely. The two restaurants are also great, Simon Radley has a Michelin star, and his tasting menu comes highly recommended.

Yelp
Wonderful Hotel that deserves it star rating. Central but quiet. Nice rooms. Very comfy beds. Excellent coffee and breakfast. Swerve the steak if you have dinner there.

Yelp
Dating back to 1865, The Chester Grosvenor and Spa is owned by and named after the family of The Duke of Westminster. Located in the heart of the historic city of Chester, The Chester Grosvenor and Spa is one of the finest hotels in the north-west of England and one of a handful of hotels outside London to be awarded five AA Red Stars. The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting all the historic sites of Chester, including the Roman walls, amphitheatre and Chester Cathedral. The Chester Grosvenor and Spa also has good road and rail links with Manchester, Liverpool and North Wales. The Chester Grosvenor's Grade II listed building, with its black and white timbered façade, belies the modern elegance of the hotel interior. The hotel has 68 bedrooms and 12 stylish suites, all individually designed and beautifully furnished. There are two award-winning restaurants, most notably Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor, previously named Arkle, which is re-opening this Saturday 6th September after an excellent refurbishment. The restaurant has retained its Michelin star for the 18th consecutive year and is one of just 26 restaurants in the UK to have been awarded four Rosettes by the AA. At the heart of the hotel is the luxury Grosvenor Spa offering traditional and holistic treatments. With five treatment rooms, a steam room, herb sauna and relaxation room, the hotel Spa offers a comprehensive list of treatments and Spa packages designed to harmonise body and mind. The hotel has a variety of stylish meeting and private dining rooms from The Eaton Suite; a state of the art Executive Boardroom to The Westminster Suite, a highly flexible space that can cater for 2 to 250 guests. The Chester Grosvenor and Spa is a tret that everyone deserves so if you get the opportunity to visit it then please take it and ladies (oops) it is right in the middle of a shopper's paradise.

Yelp
I booked a night in a deluxe suite at the Chester Grosvenor last year as a surprise for my birthday. To be honest, I was not sure what to expect as I thought it might be a little snobby. I was completely wrong! From the moment we were greeted by the concierge we were treated like VIP's. Our room was amazing, and there was nothing at all out of place. It was absolutely immaculate! We even received a complimentary bottle of Champagne as they had been told by the luxury hotel brochure that we booked through that it was my birthday. We didn't get the chance to dine in either of the restaurants during our stay, but our breakfast was really enjoyable. And although we chose to have breakfast in our room they did not limit us to a continental breakfast, which a lot of hotels do. We had a full English breakfast each with the works, all brought to us at a time of our choice on a huge trolley.

Yelp
This is a beautiful 5 star hotel in the middle of Chester city centre. Whether you want to book a room and use the spa and gym facilities, or whether you want to simply book a table for afternoon tea ( which is very charming ) it's a lovely hotel to use. It's very central so if you don't like to drive through city centres it's handy to walk about without the need for cars or taxis unless you want to travel further afield. For golf lovers the hotel has great connections with some of the best golf courses in the north west which allow for guest access to private members only clubs. It's also a beautiful place for those looking for wedding venues.

Yelp
Gorgeous hotel! Everything is laid out perfectly and the place is just stunning. The staff treat you like royalty and you feel very posh! The staff are freindly and helpful. Chester town centre is right on your doorstep so lots of shopping to be done! The food here was brilliant and it is definatley a 5 star + hotel. Expensive, but lovely for a get away weekend.

Qype User (paulco…)

Yelp
A very relaxing afternoon high tea, 1 for tea 1 for latte, beautifully served all home-made sandwich fingers, scones and desserts, with 1 plate of sandwich fingers extra- £53, for 2. with further options to add champagne, and about 4 different High Tea options, would highly recommend for that special treat.

Yelp
A very good stay in the style of cheap bed and breakfast in london (http://www.clickbed.com/london-b-and-b-3-3.html) those who are the best area of London. I really liked the stay in England, known for beautiful places. The hotel was in good price, good room service and located in a suitable place and then to explore the city.

Yelp
Lovely for a treat - and well worth a visit when visiting this gorgeous city. Nice food and not as expensive as you would think. Definately a must for afternoon tea and scone!!

Yelp
should be 5 star plus. stayed here for a weekend and after a bit of difficulty finding it -entrance was inside multi story car park - and wondering what kind of place it was going to be. had booked last minute and when we arrived found that we had been upgraded. our room had a four poster bed with a seperate area for sitting and a bathroom bigger than some hotel rooms. all the toiletries were moulton brown and the towels and bath robes were so fluffly. there was a complimentary bottle of wine in the room. the reataurant was fanstastic as was the champagne and smoked salmon we had for lunch on a bank holiday monday. The hotel is on the main street in chester so just a stones throw to the shops. the omelettes served for breakfast were perfect. woudl recommend highly. the perfect hotel for a special occasion

Qype User (fc…)

Yelp
I had an amazing time at this hotel. The service was excellent, second to none. The building is beautiful - all the public rooms are stunning. Our room was a double, decorated beautifully and so large that was like a studio flat, with a bedroom, lounge area and bathroom. Had every amenity i needed and more. Enjoyed a very good night here and would definitely visit multiple times again. Chester is a very good city in general.. not too busy and not too quiet.

Qype User (jimea…)

Yelp
Go for afternoon tea - really indulgent time and (just about) affordable.

Qype User (shelle…)

Yelp
Very upmarket hotel with the usual bars and restaurants. Nice brasserie type place to eat or the more formal restaurant. prices are steep in the main restaurant but it is michelin starred. the location is great and it is anice luch stop when shopping.

Qype User (janice…)

Yelp
Just returned from a weekend at the Grosvenor - absolutly fab and the only reason for 4 stars is the sheer expense. The staff are great, service impeccable. The room service breakfast wsn't as hot as it could be but thats the only minor quibble with a great hotel

Qype User (mboyl…)

Yelp
My friend took me here for my 40th birthday. We went for lunch and it was very very good. Atmosphere is very calm and tranquil. They serve some gorgeous bread before your food arrives. I had chicken and it was superb.we did not stay at the hotel we just went for lunch. Great for special occassions but make sure you book.

Qype User (nickyd…)

Yelp
ive only stayed here once, but room was very comfy, towels and towel robes all provided. very clean and no problems, we went out for our dinner and breakfast, as the prices were high. but the place was great!!

Qype User (ammurp…)

Yelp
Cracking hotel is the Grosvenor although perphaps OTT a bit but an experience none the less. Took two top rooms for approx £2K for the night and the service, experience was excellent. Guess it is what it is: 5*.
