The Best Chili in Cincinnati: 10 Restaurants to Not Miss | Eater

"Owner Fadi Khalilieh — whose family owned the now-shuttered JK’s Chili in Madeira, Ohio — took the family recipe and started a food truck in 2013, before finding a brick-and-mortar home in early 2022. The Chili Hut puts some innovative spins on classic chili parlor fare, like the Eden Pork, a cheese coney made with a spicy mettwurst sausage in a nod to Cincinnati’s German heritage, topped with chili, cheese, and coleslaw; or the Walking Taco, made with corn chips topped with chili, lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese, sour cream, and jalapenos." - Andy Brownfield

Tried this food truck today outside the Reds Stadium. The slaw dog I had was very good! The two men working the truck were very friendly. Took time to tell me about their product and seemed like they really cared about the food they put out. Very good! 10/10

Google
1st time having Chili Hut, but they've had a food truck for 8 years prior. It was the 2nd day of the store being open. The chili was good. We had a 3 way with jalapeños, 2 cheese coneys, and slaw dog. The amount of the 3 way wasn't much, and there wasn't as much cheese as other Cincy style chili places. The staff was nice. We'll be back. Also, it was really cool watching the girl paint the mural on the wall. She's talented!

Google
Penultimate stop on the Coney trail and it was a good one. This seems like a one man show although it seems they run a food truck too. Chili was good - a little mild perhaps but very tasty. I’d prefer stream buns of better quantity and fiber cheese but that’s just being picky Small dining room with nice wall art!

Full disclosure: I'm not from Cincinnati, and my only experience with cinci style chili was at Skyline. I'm not a fan of cinnamon in chili. I say this because I didn't have high hopes for The Chili Hut based on Skyline. However, this place is great. It blows Skyline away. No weirdly cinnamon-ed chili here! Instead, the chili has a nice depth of flavor. The cinnamon adds an understated warmth. The slaw, though not traditional on a cheese coney, is very good, with a subtle horseradish note. The proprietor was very nice as well. A+, would cinna-chili again.

Google
One of my favorite food trucks in the city, opened a new location and I'm SO EXCITED. Their chili is one of my favorites. Always delicious and the Eden Pork coney is amazing.

Google
I stopped at The Chili Hut on my Cincinnati Chili week adventure. The staff and food were amazing! I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time and I was happy to check it off my restaurant bucket list. Thanks guys!

Google
Had the Eden Pork Special. Hearty chili on a spicy mett. Awesome, homemade cole slaw on it makes it stand out from the rest Excellent!

Google
For someone that is not a huge fan of Cincinnati chili, this place was really good. You can tell they grate their own cheese and make everything fresh. Got a coney from the food truck and had great and quick service.

Yelp
Unfortunately, when we were working with the owner to provide service at our FREE Community Event for families in the area, we received rude, accusatory emails. We are a small business as well and look to work with like-minded owners. As a business owner, professionalism is important, and kindness and understanding are values that we all should embrace. I am sure this business has great food - it is sad that we were unable to do business together.

Yelp
I was fortunate to attend an education event that had booked the chili hut for some parking lot eats, and I was also fortunate enough that the organizers paid for me to try whatever I wanted. The owners, with full pride in their product, recommended I try the fully loaded 5 way. It was good, even as someone that doesn't really go hard on Cincinnati chili. Their sauce was great, had a good amount of meat and freshly diced onions for piquant bursts here and there, crisp jalapenos for spice, topped with a mound of freshly grated cheese. If I wanted to be really picky I'd say I didn't love the spaghetti, but it's really just a vehicle to deliver the sauce and cheese right? As I said, someone else paid so I can't speak to the price (and that seems to be the main detraction), but the food and folk are worth 5

Yelp
The chili here is amazing! Second time eating The Chili Hut. First time we ate in for lunch. This time got to go for weeknight dinner. The coneys are great and same with my 4-way. This chili has great flavor and a little kick but not too much. Different than skyline of course so I can't compare but I do love this little place! However I ordered a half ham and Gouda panini which says it comes with tomato, onion and mustard but all mine had on it was a piece of ham and a slice of cheese and I was disappointed. It would have been good with the rest. Also ordered a hot dog and cheese for our toddler but they forgot the hot dog! I'll change my review if they address because I do love the chili and our first experience was great, hence why we went back again! Also to note, the first time we ate there the owner was there and he was wonderful. This time was a different person.

Yelp
Saw that they had slaw dogs and really needed to try one. Unfortunately the place didn't live up to my expectations. The chili smelled great when I walked in the door, the place is small but clean and bright. I was going to eat inside but there were only two tables, one was being used by possibly someone that worked there with one of his kids/grandkids, and the other had an extension cord running beside it running out to their food truck. I decided to take it to my car to eat instead, what a bad decision! The buns weren't steamed like you get at skyline or gold star. The cheese that they use also isn't shredded long like the other two places are so when you take a bite out of the Coney the cheese falls everywhere and is very very messy. The onions are diced very large compared to the other two places. Overall I would give it a three out of five and that's a little generous.

Yelp
Ok this is the best chili in Loveland Ohio . Owner was super friendly it's nice to see the food truck at University of Cincinnati games now as well! They have a brat with chili and jalapeño chips that is amazing the grilled cheese (Gruyère cheese is the bomb diggitty!!!!!

Yelp
Spicy Cincinnati chili. My fave! This chili put Skyline and especially Gold Star to shame. Get the chili cheese sandwiches or coneys. The owner is super friendly and baited is in with a free sample. Otherwise, I may not have gotten it at all and walked past to the next.

Yelp
Not bad chili at all considering Im die hard Skyline only! The walking taco was rather tasty and more filling than I thought. Was it worth $8....thats debatable. Overall it was nice especially since they came to my job and we don't have a cafeteria and are in the middle of a food desert. I would do it again...

Yelp
I see all the nice things people have to say about this place ( most reviews are a year old). We have tried to go to this place 3 different times and is always closed even as the website and the sign on their door states that they are open. We will never try again.

Yelp
Great food truck with authentic Cincinnati Chili. You can get up to a five way (Chili, noodles, onions, beans, and plenty of cheese). Prices start at $5.00 for a plain or two way Chili and each additional topping is a dollar. You can also order coney dogs, pulled pork, or order the homemade coleslaw.

Yelp
We booked the Chili Hut for our daughter's backyard graduation party and I would book again in a heartbeat! Having a food truck was a hit and took a lot of pressure off of me preparing food for 90 plus attendees. Everyone-even a few vegetarians-enjoyed the pleasantries and delicious chili and dogs of Fadi and his father Jerry.

Yelp
On the basis of food quality alone, I'd given them three stars. Their chili was decently good, albeit a little on the hotter (spicewise) end of the spectrum compared to all the Cincinnati style chili I have sampled. Not so spicy that it'd bother anyone with even a little bit of tolerance for spice heat, tho, even tho the heat lingers a bit However - and I keep running into this same problem with almost every food truck I have tried - the prices are substantially higher than I think they should be and/or in comparison to similar products at brick and mortar businesses. For example, Chili Hut charges 3 dollars for a cheese coney, while Skyline and Goldstar charges considerably less for this same item. As such, minus a star as a value proposition FWIW, service was fast, friendly, and accomodating

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. Hotdogs and Coneys are my favorite foods. I would have zero problems eating at The Chili Hut 3-5 days a week. Better than the chain restaurants, Best Cincinnati style chili out there. The owner is super nice, his worker is great as well. Priced slightly above the competition but worth every penny! Get you some of it!!!!

Yelp
Not even going to lie, I was hesitant. A lot of places around here try to do Cincinnati Chili and fail miserably at it. Plus the prices. You think of a walking taco as just being filled in a chip bag, but it's not and they can make them with Doritos! I got mine with half Doritos and half Frito's, DELICIOUS! The taste of the chili is in between GS and Skyline, the closest thing to perfection. I already can't wait for them to come back!

Yelp
Had a great coney while it was parked at Evendale for the 4th. It was too dark for a pic but it was delicious! Are those jalapenos canned fresh? They sure tasted so. Nice and crisp. I'm a fan

Yelp
Wow. That's the only word for it. I don't eat a lot of chili, and when I do it's usually Skyline... and this blew Skyline out of the water. It was amazing. I got a 3-way. The chili itself was seasoned excellent and had a slight kick/spice to it. The spaghetti was well prepared, not rubbery. The cheese was freshly grated and they did not skip on anything. I will DEFINITELY be eating here whenever I can.

Yelp
May very well be a new favorite for cheese coneys. Found them parked on Fountain Square today and decided to try them out. Got a few cheese coneys with onions. Got out on the square a little early so hardly any wait time. They tasted great. Scarfed them down pretty fast (was pretty hungry!). I'll definitely remember them as a solid option next time I'm in the mood for coneys again. An excellent choice.

Yelp
I had a slaw dog and it was fantastic, especially for the exceptionally reasonable price of $3.50. The service was excellent and the person was friendly offering various options. The slaw dog must be consumed with a fork, especially if you're a bearded person. I really enjoyed this. I got it loaded down with onions, mustard, and jalapeños in addition to the cheese and slaw. I would recommend this food truck.

Yelp
Get the spicy mett!! Add cole slaw! Great food and customer service!!
google avatar

Yelp
Go to their website, find where they are and go there! One of the best cheese coneys I've ever had! The guys working were super friendly and passionate about what they do. This is a winner, simple as that!

Yelp
Tried The Chili Hut recently at the CFTA Food Truck Festival at Washington Square Park. I hate to say it as I'd been wanting to try them for a while, I wasn't impressed. Ordered 1 cheese coney but the flavor of the chili or lack there of did nothing for me. I think it's nice there's a mobile chili truck and wonderful there's something else besides Skyline and Gold Star in this town but I probably wouldn't try The Chili Hut again.
google avatar

Nash F.

Yelp
They came to my work today and I ordered two chili dogs. The dogs were delicious and the guys on the truck we're friendly and fast! Would definitely eat it again!

Ron S.

Yelp
We had Fadi and the Chili Hut at our December CiNPA meeting. They were easy to work with to get them to our location. They showed up early, were ready to go ahead of time. the food was delicious...if you haven't tried a 5 way with jalapenos...give it a shot! First rate all the way! I would highly recommend them for any ocassion!!! Thanks you Chili Hut for making things so easy! Ron Cincinnati Networking Professionals Association

Yelp
Great quality. I had 2 coneys and it was definitely better than Gold Star.
google avatar

Scot L.

Yelp
Got to try this truck at the new Summit park in Blue Ash. Very disappointing...the chili was served piping hot so it was actually still COOKING rather than being served warm. Additionally I thought the taste was ho hum....very bland. And of course Food Truck prices are 25% higher so no bargain either.

Yelp
Crazy good chili! I will be back as soon as I spot this gem again.

Yelp
Stumbled upon their food truck at Washington Park. We were just looking for a snack and got some coneys. Delicious. Our snakes turned into a meal when we went back and got more food. I loved the walking taco. My partner got the more standard 3 way. Delicious.
google avatar

Todd A.

Yelp
I had a walking taco and coney. Both were excellent! I would definitely recommend trying this food truck out if it's on your area. Very generous portions and staff was friendly.

Katelyn P.

Yelp
They came to my work today and they were super friendly and had delicious food. I will definitely be on the lookout for them in the future.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved my Walking Taco that I ordered for lunch, great portion size with generous toppings! The owner was very friendly & enthusiastic about his business, will definitely be getting again the next time his food truck comes my way!
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
This chili is the best! It's Cincinnati style but with a certain amazing something I can't quite put my finger on. The three ways or coneys are the way to go. Glad to see this truck and it's fantastic chili rolling around town!
google avatar

Trish R.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of trying Chili Hut for the first time and it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! This is coming from someone who has been raised on Skyline. In my opinion, Chili Hut has topped the charts for the best Cincinnati style chili. In addition to the great flavor, it comes with a charming story. The Chili hut is a family recipe prepared and served by a father-son duo :-) I highly recommend checking it out this spring!

Jim W.

Yelp
We just had the Chili Hut at a company function this week. The food and the service was fantastic! I recommend them highly.

Yelp
tried this place at the loveland food truck rally last weekend, and i am a huge fan. i tried the cheese coney with everything - AMAZING. the cheese was freshly grated and the chili was great. i recommend finding them and trying!!

J C.

Yelp
Had the cheese coneys today and they are absolutely delicious! They're so much better than any chain. Wonderful customer service and great food!

Yelp
Awesome! Love this place, I always get their Cole slaw and it's so good and has a little kick which I love! I just had them again when they were at City Flea, sooo good!

Kelly R.

Yelp
Great flavor! Love the slaw dogs! Thanks for supporting the Madeira and Cincinnati community!
