Where to Eat the Best Dumplings in Dallas - Eater Dallas

"Prosper restaurant The Chinese Neighbor recently moved to 6801 Warren Pkwy #125 in Frisco. This unique spot combines Chinese favorites with an American spin thanks to the Chef Bob Tam’s upbringing in San Francisco. Signature dishes include a Dragon Dumpling Burger, Smoked Brisket Fried Rice and Flamin’ Hot Wontons." - Rachel Pinn

Absolutely fantastic! The Chinese Neighbor was a last-minute stop during our home tour in Prosper, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. From the outside, it might be deceiving, but the culinary magic happening in this kitchen is incredible. The chicken was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The fried shrimp was fluffy and perfectly golden brown, and the Mongolian beef was exceptionally savory. The shrimp fried rice was spot-on. We snapped some photos of the food, and believe me, they taste as amazing as they look. Highly recommend!

Google
So, I am originally from New England, and we have, hands down, the best Chinese food in the states. That said, this was extremely good lo mein and good hot and sour soup. Only 2 employees so don't expect too much attention, but they were friendly enough. I do recommend you try this cute place!

Google
The portion sizes are HUGE and make it worth your money! We got the firecracker shrimp, general tsos chicken, and hong Kong chueng fen and they were all amazing but my personal favorite is the shrimp.

Google
I had an extremely disappointing experience with this place. Eager to try the food, I ordered combination fried rice and chicken wings, but when I tried the food at home - the rice was mushy and had a strange taste, while the chicken wings were bland and inedible. I spent almost $30, so I kept the food in hopes I could bring it back for a refund. When I called the restaurant to request a refund, I was told that only the general manager could assist me, but there was no timeline provided for when he would get back to me. I spoke with Suzanne, the manager. 2 days later upon speaking with the general manager and owner, Daniel. I was met with rudeness and refusal to refund my money, despite the fact that the food was practically untouched and I was offering to bring it back. This lack of customer service and unwillingness to make things right left a sour taste in my mouth. Overall, I would not recommend the Chinese Neighbor based on my experience.

Google
Was blessed enough to come here when it first opened 🤩 and I've been able to finally come several times again this year! Delicious fusion food like Hot Cheeto wontons and Cheeseburger egg rolls!! I also really enjoy the HK rolled rice noodles, lettuce wrap, and lo mein. Must come back to explore the whole menu!

Google
Chinese Neighbor is one of our favorite dining spots. We are regular, dine in and take out. My teens and I just love every food there, but mostly we stick with the featured dishes on the menu. So many favorites I can’t list all. Besides the traditional Chinese dishes, they also offer some popular Southeast Asian and American dishes. The plate portion is quite large, veggies and meats are fresh, quality is trustable, definitely worth the price you pay. The interior of the restaurant is clean, I like the pretty lighting fixtures and comfortable temperature. Lunch time during a hot summer weekday isn’t crazy busy, you can enjoy a relaxed break time. Today we ordered our favorites: Pad Thai, Flaming Hot Wontons, Coconut Shrimp, Cheese Burger Egg Rolls. Big plates so we can share the food. kids and I are so satisfied, once again! I strongly recommend this place!

Google

Google
First time trying this place out and was not disappointed. Had the beef hk rice noodles and fried wontons. The noodles were delicious and I ended up liking the the "dumplings" in it as well. 👍 The wontons though? Best I've ever had honestly. Perfectly crispy. Full of a very delicious and well flavored/blended filling. And it paired very well with the sweet chili sauce. I would return just for these. 🙌

Yelp
I was Just passing by after shopping in the area. I wantedto try something new. Food pictures looks delicious and they had good reviews. Place is clean but disappointed with the foods We ordered one of their specials, Flamin dumpling. - dumplings were slightly still cold, very little stale old cheetos. Sauce is good though. We chose the hottest option for Szechuan pork. It was not spicy at all... maybe hadtoo much vinegar? it gave a sour thang note not the like the norm Szechuan pepper spicy tingle note. I am hoping they just had a bad day... because i kind of like their concept.

Anne P.

Yelp
The staff is very nice here. The hot and sour soup is terrible. This had to be the most awful hot and sour soup I have ever eaten. It had zero taste and was not spicy at all. I ordered vegetable spring rolls and chicken rolls. One of those (don't know which was which) was good, the other looked like someone fell asleep while cooking it. The sesame chicken, I ordered was ok. They put some kind of sauce in my bag. I think it was for the egg rolls, but it tasted terrible like a bad vinegar. I definitely would not go back here.

Koi J.

Yelp
Only thing I would complain about when it comes to sesame, orange, and the other flavors of tofu + rice... is the portions... love this restaurant... I eat here a lot because it's close..
google avatar

Loretta C.

Yelp
It is good one day and not good the next time. I think it just depends on the day or who is cooking.

Yelp
What happened to this place? I always get the rolled Hong Kong noodles. I've noticed the last few times I tried to order it, it was not in stock and the last time it actually was in stock, I ordered 3 of them for family. All three were disgustingly soggy. Think if a momma bird chewed your food and then gave it to you to eat. That's how soggy it was. It was absolutely vile. Complete waste of $40. I don't think I'll ever return after that experience. I can't trust them to provide consistent quality.
google avatar

Leah P.

Yelp
Salt and pepper fish is very good, wished they had Calamari. Very crispy! Beef with broccoli is a Meh..sauce was not thick enough, too soupy. General Tso beef was ok Daughter has not tried Dragon burger yet so I cannot review. She tried it and wasn't happy with the taste. She said it tasted odd..lol At least we tried it. Not giving them a bad review for trying.

Michael B.

Yelp
Our go to Chinese takeout restaurant. The General Tsao is great, as is everything we order. The food is high quality and the sauces are perfect.
google avatar

Jake D.

Yelp
Like several other Prosper restaurants they've gone down in quality. Several items are noticeably different tasting that they were a year ago. Used to be my favorite Asian cuisine in Prosper but now it's no better or worse than any other Asian restaurant.

Don B.

Yelp
Seriously, ordered lettuce wraps and it makes maybe 2. The lettuce is weak and warm. Certainly not 8 bucks worth. Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Twice I've ordered from here and this is the last. I also noticed the only time this business responds is for good reviews- go figure

Yelp
The good - I was so delighted to find that they have designated gluten free options! -Edamame had great flavor -Delivery was timely The subpar - My dish was so oily it was slightly off-putting to eat even though it had decent flavor. It became inedible as leftovers once the "dumplings" absorbed the mass amount of oil in the sauce.

Starla T.

Yelp
Food was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend the salt & pepper fried fish. The batter was light but flavorful, all around a wonderfully enjoyable dish.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I was really excited about this place, but was thoroughly disappointed :( I got paid thai. The peanut were on the side instead of crushed into the sauce, like it should be. Overall the dish tasted very sour to the point that I didn't even want to finish it.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Mostly Takeout or delivered. Food always delicious. Lots of gluten free options. Especially love gf HK noodles!

Yelp
Legit and definitely returning for more! This wasn't on my must-try list after reading the Guidelive review, mainly because I don't typically like asian fusion, but we had dinner here earlier in the week at the suggestion of my in-laws... and little did I know, I was in for a surprise! We ordered the following and loved it all: - salt and pepper fish and chips - Hong Kong style rice noodles - wonton soup - hot and sour soup - General tso chicken - lo mein - mapo tofu Service was good, food was cooked-to-order and the owner came by to greet us also!

Amanda R.

Yelp
Rice was over cooked. I hade combo fried rice and lo mein. They didn't provide any soy sauce or any condiments. Chicken didn't have much flavor neither did the shrimp. I wouldn't come back to eat here.

Yelp
This brand spanking new eatery is a much needed addition to the area! Decided to check it out based on this week's Dallas Culture Map article and our experience did not disappoint. The menu (2 Sides to it - Modern & Traditional) is fun yet adventurous as it tries integrating some classic "Texas" ingredients with Chinese cooking. The vibe is your cozy counter service model. We tried the Sichuan Buffalo Wings which was a hearty appetizer (Think meaty wings that are fried up minus the grease, tossed in chili powder and then drizzled with Caesar dressing) - You would think these bad boys would burn your mouth but they were fairly mild yet enjoyable. We also tried the HK style Rice Noodles with Shrimp. The flat noodles are actually rolled up (Kinda Cool eh?) and then tossed in the wok with bean sprouts and shrimp. Very well balanced dish that was executed perfectly. Also wanted to try the Char-Siu Pork Buns but they were out :( The Chef (with a stacked resume) clearly knows what he's doing and I can't wait to visit again to try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Had a great time enjoying their food here. Came for their new years celebration pop up dinner. They offer many different very interesting dishes.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
The service. I may be back. Americanized Chinese food, and among the better one in the poor line up of options in North Texas. General Tao's chicken pretty good as they use white meat. Szechuan tofu pretty good though chef got a little jalapeño happy. Hong Kong rice noodles with beef. Awful, inedible as noodles should not be mushy and the beef over baking soda'd and too spongy.

Averie R.

Yelp
The service here is amazing. Everyone is extremely kind and helpful and food is ready in as little as 5 min. The food is so good and They use quality ingredients. Personally the fried rice is the best I have had.

Yelp
During this pandemic,COVID-19, eating out has become a distant memory for many. Most of us eat at home and some of us order out. Today was a special date for my husband and I so we wanted to celebrate. We ordered some food from this little place. I love to try new places and Chinese food is my favorite treat. We selected Chicken Wings, Cheeseburger Egg-rolls, Traditional Fried Rice with Shrimp and Traditional Lo Mein with Chicken. The food was simply delicious. The egg roll felt like I was biting into a burger but the crust quickly reminded me it was an egg-roll. Such a fun food item. The chicken wings where perfectly cooked, flavorful and not greasy. I'm a big chicken wing fan and these did not disappoint. The lo mein and the fried rice were also cooked perfectly. We truly enjoyed our dinner and so glad we stopped by The Chinese Neighbor. The restaurant is attractive, has a friendly staff and the food is just perfect. I will be back. Can't wait till it opens up for full service. To the owner: hang in there during this difficult time. You have a great place and those that visit will add you to their list of favorites. I know I have.

Yelp
It's Just OK Chinese food. We'll keep looking for great........

Yelp
Early days into the coronavirus scare we were scheduled to try The Chinese Neighbor restaurant. I was a little apprehensive in that going out to public places, being with large numbers of people has been played up by the media as risky. Nevertheless we persisted - and were very pleased! It was an early-ish dining time which meant there were Happy Hour cocktail specials. Yay! The decor of the restaurant is really nice with a modern, slightly industrial vibe. Service was attentive without interrupting our conversation. We tried appetizers along with several entrees which we shared and found them all to be very good - especially the pepper soft-shell crab. Just a very nice place to relax and enjoy pan-asian dining.

Carlotta L.

Yelp
Just had another serving of the garbage food that was bought for my dinner last night. I ordered a hot spicy Calabrian Chile fried rice. Not a bit of Calabrian Chile in the entire dish. Instead of fried rice, tasted like old leftover mush o seasoning or listed ingredients. The other dish ordered was sichuan wok stir fry! Worst food ever. Maybe they should start watching the new upcoming Food Network series about Chinese cooking. The reason that I had another serving this afternoon was because I was too lazy to make lunch. Just awful! If this bad food was a first occurrence, I might have just chalked it up to an off night! No excuse for the garbage they're serving; they must just don't care!
google avatar

Rob F.

Yelp
Ordered via DoorDash.... had sweet and sour chicken, pork dumplings- it was really good! All white meat chicken breast and sauce was not goopy thick and syrupy. Dumplings cooked perfectly and seared just right. I'll definitely play on ordering more from them in the future and if you are in the area they are worthy of a try.

Karim W.

Yelp
They're ok. Excellent service by the food wasn't very good. Too much salt instead of savory.
google avatar

Royall D.

Yelp
My kids likes the food here, localized Chinese food. I like the beef. Nice place for a lunch

Dana I.

Yelp
Hubby has wanted to try this place for months but every time we tried they were closed. Finally got in today. I assumed they would have orange chicken but no. Got the Mac n cheese -- gross. Just gross. Do not recommend. Also got the crab rangoons which were 4 to a plate and VERY SMALL. Almost no flavor at all. Hubby had the firecracker shrimp which was ok. The wings were decent No plans to go back. As a matter of fact we're stopping for pizza on the way home because what I ordered just isn't good at all.
google avatar

J'nai T.

Yelp
Ordered takeout for lunch. Food was delivered in a timely manner. Presentation was good, but the food was bland. I have eaten here in the past and the food was awesome. Hence, the four stars. Maybe it's just one of those days. I will revisit this establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
We decided to try the Chinese Neighbor for dinner Sunday night. We placed our order online which was very easy. I ordered the Cheeseburger Egg Rolls - delicious. I wish I ordered more of these. I also ordered the spring rolls I think. My main entree was the Hot Fried Rice - combo, hubby got the Brisket Fried Rice, daughter got the kids noodles and son got the kids cheeseburger egg roll with fries. Everyone enjoyed their food and we had no complaints. My Hot Fried Rice was pretty spicy but still very good and didn't have any problems eating it. Serving size was great as well. We will definitely eat here again... especially for those egg rolls.
google avatar

Yelp
Y'all... finally! A GOOD Ramen place! I can only speak for takeout as we order this weekly on DoorDash. Everything we have had is absolutely delicious! The Ramen is excellent every time. Get it spicy! The dumplings are great and my husband loves the pad Thai. We hope to one day break out of the house and eat at the restaurant but for now we'll enjoy it from home just fine!
google avatar

Nahreen A.

Yelp
The food was 10 out of 10 very tasty I was surprised the only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that there was so much onions rather then beef in my Mongolian beef. I ordered the beef from DoorDash for $14.50 with steamed rice and got little meat which was disappointing. Other then that the food was yummy the dumplings and spring rolls are a must try if you ever order

Ron R.

Yelp
I ordered carry out today. Wasn't very pleased. Flavors tasted off and the portion (for a Chinese restaurant) was pretty skimpy. Also has too much vinegar or something. I ordered Szechuan chicken. Probably will stick with Tappan Wok going forward.

Yelp
First timer here. Found this place while browsing for some Asian food. Not to far from where I lived. Looked very promising from the reviews. Arrived and grabbed a menu and browsed it for a bit. I like the limited options they had. Looks like there's a little spin on Authentic Chinese food. So we decided to eat family and ordered 4 different dishes so we can taste a bit of everything. We ordered H.K. Rice Noodles (Beef) - It is street style rice noodles "dumplings" with carrot, snow peas, celery, cabbage, mushrooms, bean sprouts, scallions. I have never seen rice noodles made this way. It was cut into cubes. Very impressive. Doesn't have the best flavor but it had enough. "SHRIMP n' LOBSTER" "MAC & CHEESE" - Came shrimp (unfortunately, we didn't see any lobster), egg, garlic, scallion, 3 cheese sauce, rice noodle "dumplings", baked & topped with toasted breadcrumbs. Wow, what an amazing idea to make Mac n' Cheese with added asian spices and eggs. By far, one of the best Mac n' Cheese I've had. Had the perfect amount of cheese as well. "DRAGON DUMPLING" BURGER - It is marinated beef & pork patty, swiss american,, caramelized onions, kewpie mayo, toasted english muffin, dumpling sauce side of umami fries & chinese 1000 island. It was great. You can definitely taste the dumpling. UMAMI FRIES (came with the Dragon Dumpling Burger) - umami salt, pecorino cheese, garlic, sesame furikake, scallion, shichimi, serrano, chinese 1000 island. Sadly It wasn't that great. It lacked flavor but the fries was crispy. SALT & PEPPER "FISH & CHIPS" & CHIPS - tempura basa, french fries, shrimp chips, umami salt, scallion, garlic, dried chili, serrano chinese pickle tartar, gingered dumpling vinegar. The Tempura was great. It didn't taste like frozen fish at all. Great amount of batter as well. But unfortunately the Shrimp chips was a little stale. Overall, I had a great experience. The ambience is cute. The staff were all friendly. The portions might be a bit small for others but for me, it was a perfect size. The prices were fairly priced. So for a party of 4 with 4 dishes, our total was about $43. Of course I believe they just opened when we went so there will be some kinks they have to figure out. I would definitely try this again.

Yelp
We ordered take-out , it took them a good 7-8 minutes to place our order, the person on the phone made me repeat everything I said 3-4 times, saying he couldn't hear me, it was rather frustrating. When asked about their spice levels, he said we could make it anyway you like, we asked for extra spicy on both of our dishes Food was ready on time when we went to pick it up. The place was so very loud, but looked clean, with some patrons dining in. When we got home, we realized they put no eggs ( inspite of saying add eggs)on our order of HK rice noodles-dumplings with tofu, the noodles were so soft and nice, but lacked any flavor beyond soy sauce( not sure if that's how they are supposed to be made), the chicken fried rice was the same, just tasted like soy The spice level was a 2 at best on a scale of 1-5, the portions were small too This place fell short on all accounts , will not return

Virginia S.

Yelp
Disappointed, I've had takeout here many times over the past 5 years. And this is my first unenjoyable meal here
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
The idea of their menu items seem really great but the execution is missing something! The only item I've loved from here is the lettuce wraps. We've ordered rice and noodles on multiple occasions and just weren't impressed
google avatar

Nora N.

Yelp
I kid you not...WORST meal of my entire adult life. We ordered delivery. It arrived oily, undercooked, overcooked and just plain disgusting. After reading reviews on the dragon dumpling burger, my husband thought he couldn't go wrong. Wrong! The burger turned out to be an undercooked, greasy gray patty from hell, wrapped in foil, oozing a yellow chemically flavored oil. Yum right? The Sichuan chicken was no better. It had a funky taste with chicken so overcooked I gave up trying to bite thru it. The manager was nice to refund the order but who's going to erase the flashbacks I keep having? Save yourself the trauma.

Yelp
-Updated- After several more visits to Chinese Neighbor it has become a consistent favorite for Chinese food in this area for us. Always tastes fresh 45 minutes to get food Super small portions Unnatural flavor combinations (and not in a good way) Gloopy sauces I wanted it to be so good because Prosper is an Asian food desert, but wow

Frank W.

Yelp
Not an inviting atmosphere for dining in so decided to do take out. I ordered a lo mein which was extremely greasy and tasted old.
google avatar

Joanne M.

Yelp
Umm..hello this place is so good! We have been for both dine-in and take-out, most recently take-out due to covid-19 pandemic..and lets just say, the food is always so good. We usually order the mongolian beef, chicken, and potstickers and everything is cooked to order. Coming from the Northeast it is hard to find a good Chinese restaurant, and The Chinese Neighbor is now one of our go-to's for quality Chinese food that reminds us of our restaurants back home.
google avatar

Kara K.

Yelp
I really don't have much to review. The ordering process was seamless. What drew me to the restaurant was the awesome pictures which titillated my taste buds. Unfortunately my experience wasn't the greatest. We ordered the shrimp fried rice, lo mein, and crab ragoon. The food arrived a decent temperature but it definitely lacked the taste that the pictures seemed to have. Maybe I'm partial to Thai food now, but really I don't want to try it again.
google avatar

Codi B.

Yelp
Wasn't quite sure what this place was about until I actually went inside. The menu is definitely fusion and there are some pretty interesting dishes on the menu. I went with the chicken lettuce wraps and the cod fish and chips. Originally I wanted to try the shrimp and lobster Mac n cheese, but the cashier kinda talked me out of it. I'm still interested to try it one day. Food came out fast, portions were good, presentation was good, and taste was actually really good. The place is very nice and clean. I'd definitely go back again.
google avatar

Alysia M.

Yelp
So happy we found this place. Everything tastes so fresh. Their Mongolian beef, and sweet and sour chicken which was great, although the portions are a little on the smaller side and the Mongolian beef seemed to be 60% onions. The wontons in their wonton soup were a little overdone, but the soup itself was very good. We've also had their ramen a few times now and that is incredibly flavorful and the portions are generous. We've had their pot stickers a couple times and they were different shapes each time which makes me think they're made by hand in the restaurant. Takeout was just as good as dine in. Service is great.
google avatar

Andres C.

Yelp
Wow! First time here. I tried the Dragon Dumpling Burger. It was delicious!!! Can't wait to try something else! Thank you for coming to Prosper, Texas!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I am in love with the Sichuan Shrimp. The shrimp are fresh, and big. The spice of the peppers at medium level is perfect. The lips numb and tingle during the meal, which is a good sign. The vegetables in the dish are crispy, yet cooked enough. We just got over Covid so I haven't had it for a about 3 weeks. Covid does a number on your taste buds for sure. I will heading back soon for the Sichuan. I hope my taste buds don't freak out. But I really don't care, they'll be numb anyway.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Order was missing side of fried rice that I was up charged for my orange chicken and the portion size was a joke for $16.00.
google avatar

Isha S.

Yelp
Doesn't look much when you pass by us but the food is so so so delicious and fresh. Unlike other Chinese stores with serves food with heavy on sauces and condiments, the menu is clean and yet unique. Fresh meat, crispy veggies. This has become our go to Chinese neighborhood rest. The place is clean the stuff is young and friendly. Chucked of one coz the water cups are single use plastic

Yelp
This is your typical American neighborhood Chinese food eatery with nice, cordial service, and some unusual entries that may or may not be worth the trip depending on your tastes. Since I tend to swing closer to authentic eats, The Chinese Neighbor is just average to below average. General Tso was probably the worst pick from my takeout order; dense overcooked white meat, soft mushy batter, and an unremarkable tangy sauce. The Mongolian beef fared better, chewy beef hinting of a little bit of sweetness, and avoiding the gloppy mess that many neighborhood spots tends to bury in onions and peppers. The "hot" fried rice barely registered as spicy although the dried chiles would make one believe it's hot--but no. Fried wontons were just "okay", certainly no crab in these like some other eateries offer. As for the weird menu entries, I'd eat the cheeseburger eggroll again, just because it was unexpectedly tasty. And the umami fries were fried perfectly; however, I didn't really dig the dipping sauce because it lacked anything Asian in flavor.

Yelp
Since moving from California where there's a plethora of good Chinese cuisine, authentic dim sum houses, excellent hole-in-the-wall spots, and Chinatowns in San Francisco and Oakland, I've been on the hunt for good Chinese food in the DFW area. After trying this place, I'm still on the hunt. Just no. I was really bummed too as we had spent $80 in various dishes to get a good sense of their food. I would rather have Panda Express over this place. I'm confused on why this place has four stars?? I'm starting to lose hope that there's good Chinese food in the DFW area, but I'm hoping to be proved wrong.

Yelp
I've been to this place twice (I should have learned from the first time) and quality of the food was just not there. I had the beef with broccoli, my husband had General tso chicken, and they both were ok but overall "meh" as far as flavor. I Had it again recently and the meat looked old and tasted like gummy or something. Pretty gross to be honest. This will definitely be my last time going here. I wouldn't recommend but try for yourself & decide.
