Despite not being a large store, it has more than you can imagine! Our host, Max, was extremely friendly and attentive. Rum and Spumoni ice cream, caramel frappe, key lime and orange chocolates, was our order and everything was delicious! The prices are quite in line with the portions and quality. By the way, be sure to try the Affogato... Delirious combination of your favorite ice cream with a shot of espresso... I highly recommend it!

Perfect stop for sweet treats! Chocolate dipped orange peels & crème brûlée truffles were amazing!

Google
Lovely small chocolatier in downtown hidden in an alleyway with absolute character. The chocolates are fabulous but the hospitality of the staff was at the next level. Great place to grab coffee or hot chocolate while strolling through Sonoma.

Google
Amazing homemade chocolates and ice cream. Even if you aren't hungry it's worth just going inside for the smells alone. Also as odd as it sounds one of the only places we could find Sonoma kids T-shirts.

Kim Aldy

Google
Cute little chocolate and ice cream shop with unique candy. This is a small family business, and the owner was there when we went. He suggested great ice cream flavors and even gave my friend and I a free chocolate on our way out! Such a great experience!

Google
A favorite chocolatier spot. Yet this place has much more than homemade chocolate. Ice cream, snow cones, gelato, treats of all sorts and plenty of gift ideas. Well worth a visit on a sunny afternoon, when in Sonoma.

Google
I used to go here as a kid and just went again recently. Great ice cream and lots of other choices (fudge, candy, chocolate, smoothies)! I got an Affogato which is an espresso and ice cream float mmmmm

Google
Excellent! The selection service and team were outstanding. There is a reason this place has been open for decades.

Yelp
Very friendly employees who were very knowledgeable. The ambiance is a bit overwhelming for us neurodivergent folks. There are just so many things to look at! Of all kinds. On top of that they make their own fudge. And they serve coffee and ice cream. The ice cream is sourced from local creameries and was very good. I ended up ordering an affagottò which was fabulous but the entire reason for our trip to Sonoma was to locate the most amazing cup of hot cocoa and sadly this is the area that fell short. The cocoa just needed a bit more cocoa and it could have been amazing. 7/10 recommend. Will be back to check out their retro candy offerings.

Yelp
The chocolate cow was the only place open around the area where we were at that time! They serve ice cream, chocolate, and Knick knacks, candies for kids and grown-ups! They also sell t-shirts as souvenirs! The service was excellent! We got what we needed right away! They have seating outside for a great chat and enjoy your ice cream! I recommend!

Yelp
I liked that it did not feel like a chain and the gelato was tasty. Service staff allowed you to take many samples. The chocolate was freshly made in fact you could see it in the molds. It had a fun atmosphere and was a nice place to visit while in Sonoma.

Erin K.

Yelp
Cute small shop, and I bought a small box of chocolates as a gift for my mother in law. She said they were delicious! Prices were fair and the chocolates were beautiful. They also had quite a variety of candies, and their ice cream looked good. The staff was friendly and helpful and the shop was clean, well-lit and tidy. Located just off the main square in Sonoma, easy to find. Next time I'm going to buy some for myself instead of just as a gift. :)

Yelp
Walking around the plaza area, we came across Choc Cow and went in for ice cream. They serve Double Rainbow and Straus brands. Hubby had a small cup of Dutch chocolate and I tried a med cup of vanilla bean, $13 for both. The vanilla was OK but not enough vanilla bean flavor. The store also sells chocolates but we didn't try. There are seats outside where you can sit to enjoy the desserts.

Wayne G.

Yelp
The service is very good. They have various sweets including gelato and ice cream. I found the gelato different than I'm accustomed to and ordered ice cream in a waffle cone. It's good quality for a fair price.

Kristina K.

Yelp
Went to downtown Sonoma and found The Chocolate Cow. I was warmly welcomed with my dog in tow, pleasantly surprised by everything yummy. The milk chocolate truffles, espresso, pecan clusters and so many more delicious flavors! Had to get a scoop of German chocolate ice cream that was to die for! Very clean and the line moved quickly. Cute wrapping on the box as well!

Elaine E.

Yelp
Great shop! They've got everything! Coffee, ice cream, large selection of candy AND even sugar free chocolates!!! Delish!!!

Jo Z B.

Yelp
Cute shop in cute shopping area. My kid got cookies & cream. Trying to get over a sore throat so avoiding dairy to not produce more phlegm. Guava & raspberry was nice sweet treat on a warm late morning summer day. Person at register was knowledgeable about what did not have dairy.

Hope D.

Yelp
A very cute local ice cream shop! The interior is black and white, going along with a cow theme. Came on a Thursday and there were two serves/cashiers. Unfortunately, the male server did not have a happy or welcoming demeanor. The ice cream was typical, would come back.

Jen L.

Yelp
We love The Chocolate Cow! It was recommended to us by a server at one of the restaurants in town and we've been here a few times now. There's a huge selection of candy, chocolates, and awesome flavors of ice cream and gelato. There's usually a short line whether it's the early or late afternoon. The service has always been friendly and quick.

Sherrie M.

Yelp
I was going to go to a different place for ice cream but after speaking with a local went here. 3 ice creams was $21.45, it was good but not that good especially when you weren't getting an over average size portion. Service was fast and the young men behind the counter where nice.

Lana C.

Yelp
Great choices and a very reasonable price. Nice shaded sitting area outside to relax My entire group loved their ice cream.

Janelle J.

Yelp
Located in a corner of a cute alley way near city hall, The Chocolate Cow offers an array of candy and chocolate to choose from! They also have ice cream and some sorbet flavors. Service was friendly and fast. I ordered a small cup of cookies and cream. So good! Highly recommend if you're in town, esp on a hot day.

Gillynn C.

Yelp
Cute little place. They have ice cream, shave ice and lots of nostalgic candy. The shave ice was great. It was finely grated and the syrup was sweet and flavorful. Nice outdoor seating in satiny strip mall. Looks like it's family owned so it's a nice to support them. Will come back when I'm back in town since it's so hard to find good shave ice

Ramona G.

Yelp
My family stopped at The Chocolate Cow on the hottest day of the year! haha it was seriously like 114 degrees in Sonoma that day and we were dying just being outside so we came into this shop for some AC and ice cream. In addition to their ice cream offerings, they also have Hawaiian Shave Ice which I got. I got mine with a scoop of ice cream at the bottom which was perfect to cool down on that hot day. Not a bad place to get your sweet tooth fix!

Philip S.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream, and there's often a bit of a line because it's so good! Generous scoops and well worth any wait you may experience. Also, a pretty amazing candy inventory.

Kary M.

Yelp
Great place with wonderful people and yummy icecream! Go there before doing a huge line at the place on the main plaza street

Caitlin R.

Yelp
Try this place out! It's off the square, but so worth it. They were also open longer than it said online. Their banana walnut flavor was incredible and they have so many chocolate and sweets to choose from, include some unique ones that we had not seen elsewhere in a while! Super cute aesthetic as well!

Ynaj S.

Yelp
Purchased a key lime chocolate & the girl highly rated it. What a D I S A P P O I N M E N T ! It was not dark chocolate and the "key lime filling" is just a show. All you taste is pure sugar and tasteless filling, no hint of "key lime" Dark chocolate is not sweet my darling

Maxim S.

Yelp
Solid ice cream shop in downtown Sonoma. I have been here a few times and have enjoyed it. Most of the ice cream seems to be from Straus which explains the good quality, creamy ice cream they serve here. There are also a ton of candy and chocolate options along with gelato and sherbet. I do say, I prefer this place over Sweet scoops despite sweet scoops being homemade ice cream. Not much seating inside the shop but there is a small courtyard outside with a decent amount of benches. Will be back here again for some good ice cream in Sonoma!

Lillian W.

Yelp
+Strauss ice cream. (Organic) +Gelato. +Fudge $18 per pound. +Chocolates. Fancy truffles. +Chocolate dipped Oreos and graham crackers, $1.25 each. Chocolate dipped pretzel $1.95. +Candy. 50 cents and upwards in price. Yahoo! They got it. Come on in to the Chocolate Cow. It is a cute tiny shop off First Street, in a pedestrian shopping alley, across the street from Sonoma Plaza. In Sonoma CA. The shop has no seating, it is a grab n go place. But the pedestrian shopping alley has outdoor seating. Plus the alley is super quaint with a brick walkway, plantings, and water features. Cute. Relaxing. I bought a dark chocolate covered peanut cluster, sea salt caramel fudge, and dark chocolate peanut butter cup. They were all homemade. Yum! All the chocolates had a smooth texture. Professional look. The fudge had a distinct sea salt taste that paired well with the chocolate. Not overpowering. Delicious. The staff was great. They wore fresh gloves when handling the chocolates and ice cream. They were patient with the customers and knew a lot about the inventory. I even noticed the store was very clean even for being a late Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
We got the shaved ice island style with the vanilla ice cream in the middle. Yummmm! Reminded me of being in Hawaii! We also grabbed a few different candies as the assortment is amazing! This is the spot if you have a sweet tooth or are craving an after dinner sugar snack.

Yelp
Rocky road ice cream - pretty good Waffle cone- pretty good Service- pretty good it's a nice shop with chocolates, ice cream, shaved ice, and other sweet treats

Donna F.

Yelp
Great sweet shop in quaint downtown Sonoma. The Champagne Milk Chocolate truffle was fabulous!! One of the best!

Lisa N.

Yelp
It's like a kid in a candy store or should I say ice cream store? Chocolate and ice cream!! Interior is super cute. Great selection of ice cream flavors. They offer samples. Very creamy and delicious. They even offer gelato for non-dairy folks. The staff was very helpful and nice. No complaints here. #supportlocalbusinesses

Yelp
located in downtown sonoma...chocolates, candy shop, ice cream, gelato, coffee drinks, shakes, smoothies and shaved ice...juggling quite a few items in a small shop packed...sweet scent of chocolate filling the interiors...line to the back counter moving at a steady pace...time to browse chocolates to the left and a wall of candy to the right...checking in and finding an offer for buy one get one free gelato...politely asking and staff checking with owner...still good...taking a double chocolate gelato small and getting the small vanilla gelato free...normally $4.65 each...a single table to sit inside and most of the seating outside...taking the empty table inside and grabbing plenty of napkins for the child...the gelato was ultra creamy and delicious...both the chocolate and the vanilla were equally good in flavor and texture...perfect way to cool down on a warm day...

Ashlee M.

Yelp
Was walking around Sonoma when I discovered this sweet shop. It was a pleasure chatting with Heidi about Hawaii and all the different products the store had to offer. We ended up getting the shave ice with POG syrup thats imported from Hawaii. Learned the ice cream was made from local dairy. I even bought my parents some chocolates which they gift wrapped for me. Everything was delish and the customer service was great. Look forward to visiting again! Mahalos

Anna S.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream with a beautiful interior with indoor and outdoor seating. The cow themed design is very trendy and they have a mini candy shop on the side for the little ones. For my lactose intolerant peeps, they have a sorbet and an oat milk ice cream :D The employees are very friendly; I accidentally left my purse here and the owner kept it for me so 11/10 for yummy ice cream and integrity!!

Milt K.

Yelp
Great service. Really good chocolates and gelato. Very clean. Highly recommended and worth the trip.

Danny S.

Yelp
Come for whatever is happening in Sonoma Square, stay for the chocolate. Our family has been coming to both for years. The chocolate cow has everything your sweet tooth good want. Gelato, fancy confectionery (including sugar free) and old-school candies. It even has T-shirts and plush toys all in a cute checkerboard floored shop. Scroll down this little alley to the chocolate cow as well as other interesting shops.

Christine P.

Yelp
The ice cream here is really good! I got the pistachio ice cream with pistachio nut and it was super creamy and delicious. Make sure to stop here for some ice cream when you visit the plaza!

brody v.

Yelp
Mid the guy was depressed sorta mean idk candy is expensive as hell. Everything is. Snowcones also have the weakest syrup ratio to ice EVER.

Cheley F.

Yelp
Great Hawaiian Shave Ice! So glad we all got there just in time (closed at 6 today for the 4th of July holiday) - they've got a great selection of syrups, ice cream flavors and candy for ALL! Even chocolate malt balls!! Don't miss out!

Cindy A.

Yelp
We stopped here for an afternoon treat. It is a combo ice cream, chocolates, and candy shop. They had a good variety of flavors of ice cream. I got the non dairy "oats and goodies" ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I got the smallest cup and the server packed it full! Good choice for our afternoon snack.

Jessica R.

Yelp
One of the best ice cream shops I've been. The owner is the sweetest! Plenty of organic options and you can try the different ice cream/gelato flavors which is a plus. Last time I was there they had a bilingual employee

Steven C.

Yelp
I was craving chocolate and decided to check this place out. Was quite surprised! The chocolates here were very good. I ordered a few different ones all good so far. One of the chocolates that stood out was the peanut butter cup. It was one of the best I have ever had. The peanut butter inside was so smooth and delicious. Another one I really liked and recommend is the sea salt and caramel. Havent finished the box but definitely will go back and try other things like their ice cream and gelato.

Karen M.

Yelp
Sunny day in Sonoma, belly full of ice cream--what could be wrong with that?? Sampled a couple flavors, including the special, and couldn't decide so had to get both, of course! The counter guy had just used the scoop to artfully design all the tubs of gelato and ice creams; they were beautiful. I kind of felt bad asking him to mess them up - - but not that bad!

Kash D.

Yelp
We got curious about this shop, it was a perfect time to have this summer... The guy who was there was very courteous polite and friendly, 5 stars for customer service.. How he arranged all his ice cream and gelato in such amazing pleasing-to-the-eye look.. We had the Chocolate Ice Cream and Cinnamon Caramel in both small cups.. It wasnt that delicious but very creamy and real dairy, love it... The store also has some souvenir ref magnets, t-shirts, and interesting chocolates... We will definitely be back soon to try his other flavor most esp the gelato...

Sneha P.

Yelp
Have only tried the fudge and it was delicious! That's what the review is for. Not too sweet and great texture. Also fun little merchandise in the store, limited but may have gotten a wine tshirt while in there.

Bill W.

Yelp
Best spumoni gelato I ever had. And definitely need to try the affogato with double expresso flavor.

Michael D.

Yelp
Charming folks. Good products. But the sad tinny sound system and even sadder heinous fluorescent lighting may not be enjoyable and deflates the experience. The lighting will make you look ghostly...don't go in with a significant other.

Yashika A.

Yelp
We stopped by twice on our trip to Sonoma. Place was very neat and clean. Servers had masks on. They had really god variety of flavors and they all looked amazing. We tried Dutch chocolate, strawberry and rocky road and they were all very yummy. We also got a smoothie for my son which he loved. Their chocolate fudge is also amazing. Definitely stop by if you are in town.

Cynthia W.

Yelp
I love this place! I love that I can get some ice cream and then peruse all the myriad candies that they have. The owner is so nice, too. It make you feel good abort supporting local independent businesses.

Reixa C.

Yelp
6/26/2016 - Great store to pick up a few pieces of chocolate, ice cream, fudge, or candy. We stopped by here and picked up a few pieces of chocolate salted caramel pretzels and just sea salt caramels. We had a bottle of wine we had purchased a few days prior that we wanted to pair with this chocolate. It was PERFECT!

Robert D.

Yelp
Gelato was tasty... really appreciated two-fer deal! Good choice of ice cream flavors and all looked good

Eugene L.

Yelp
I rolled here in my Whip Black Beauty with some Friends after an Event . Its a Cute and Quaint little shop . They have a large selection of Chocolates and Candy . They also have Ice Cream. I ordered a Multiple Flavor Ice Cream Shake. My Server was Very Attractive Woman and was Friendly and Accomendating . I paid by Cash and Rolled out. I would stop here again if in the Area .

Rudy B.

Yelp
I walked into this place and immediately walked out to find my partner who was in another store, because I knew she had to experience this place with me. Right when you walk in, there was someone making chocolate. The smell of chocolate and various sweets hypnotize you and the array of treats displayed turn you into a kid again. From chocolates, to ice cream, to fruity and old time favorites this is when you realize what the term "A kid in a candy shop" really means because you yourself are turned into a kid and you want to buy everything! We ended up getting a box of chocolate as a gift and as box of chocolates for ourselves and we were not disappointed. The staff was super friendly and welcoming and they all know their chocolate very well. This is a must see place in the area.

Karen W.

Yelp
We were exploring the shops and sights of Sonoma Square and came upon a bunch of shops and noticed that The Chocolate Cow had Hawaiian shaved ice, ice cream and chocolates as well as some neat Sonoma tee shirts and candies. It was such a hot day and we were parched, so we ordered the large Hawaiian shaved ice for each of us. I had the guava, coconut and mango flavors and Dude had he guava, lime, and passion fruit flavors. Both hit the spot on such a hot day!
