The Church of Transfiguration is an Episcopal Church that follows an Anglo-Catholic tradition. The Church is also known as "The Little Church Around the Corner" and has been in existence since 1848.
As a baptized Catholic, who felt excluded because of Catholic teachings on many issues, I began my spiritual search for a more inclusive community a couple of years ago. One Sunday, I passed by Church of the Transfiguration and decided to check it out. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt immediately at home with my spiritual history and journey.
Church of the Transfiguration is not per se a "gay" Church, but rather, a place were all are welcome - gay, straight, transgender, young people, seniors, all races and those of all other faith traditions. One of my favorite traditions at Church of the Transfiguration has been to annually march in the NYC Gay Pride Parade representing the Little Church Around the Corner. What an exhilarating feeling to walk proudly down Fifth Avenue behind our Church banner alongside a community of my peers.
As one raised in the Catholic Church and being gay, I have found a home where my history continues under the roof and amongst people who accept and embrace me into their community.
