19 Pubs Around the World Perfect for a Pint

"If you’ve ever been to London, you’ve passed a Fuller’s Pub. The family of drinking establishments are ubiquitous in England’s capital, having served Londoners and visitors alike under the Fuller’s name for close to 200 years, though some of their pubs can trace their histories back centuries further. Most pubs in town, Fuller’s establishments notwithstanding, offer up English fare to pair with their ales, from fish and chips to bangers and mash, and so on. But only one of the Fuller’s family—the Churchill Arms—has become a staple for its accompanying familiar British beers with Thai food. The Fuller’s brewery is just three miles from the Churchill Arms, in Chiswick, making the pub extremely close to its beer menu’s source. Now 270 years old, the Arms falls among the older pubs in London. Named for Sir Winston Churchill after World War II, the pub’s connection with the famous British family actually dates back a century more, to when Churchill’s grandparents, the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, John and Frances Anne Spencer-Churchill, drank at the pub. (Every year, around the younger Churchill’s birthday, the pub has their 1940s-themed “Churchill Night.”)  Most everything about the pub’s interior feels British. It has a dark interior, made cozy by the warm lighting and lack of space. Churchill portraits and paraphernalia adorn every nook and cranny, except for the ceilings, from which sprout potted plants and a variety of antiques. The canopy crammed with British gear, much of it looking to date to the ’40s, can make a visitor forget the quirk that is the Churchill Arms’s menu. From porters paired with pad Thai to ales for washing down side plates of spring rolls, the Churchill Arms’s Thai menu offers a twist to the standard English pub. Since the Arms began serving Thai in 1988, other pubs followed suit, according to Mic—no doubt they realized the popularity of the unconventional idea. Contrary to some tragic tropes about London’s food scene, the Thai on offer has resounding reviews (perhaps made even better by a quality pairing with the pub’s locally-sourced alcohol). Among its externally evident eccentricities, the pub’s facade is covered in flowers; $32,000 worth, according to Secret London. During the holidays, the pub switches out its hanging gardens for Christmas cheer, annually hoisting nearly 100 fir trees and thousands of lights to make the place strikingly sparkly in the upscale neighborhood of Kensington." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Was on my pubs to visit list for a while. Was a beautiful day outside and the flowers on the outside of this pub which are iconic looked out of this world. Inside the memorabilia was unique and historical. Friendly staff. The Guinness was perfect.

Google
We only had a drink. I am very fond of cider and enjoyed a very nice Old Mout Cider taste of pinnacle and raspberry. The pub was full around lunch time with a jolly atmosphere. A very nice smell came from the adjacent Thai restaurant serving as well in the bar. It looked very appetising and I would have tried one of their dishes if I hadn't been pressed for time.

I try to stop here every time I’m in London. You can’t miss the place, it’s decorated with flowers, lots and lot’s of flowers. I always look forward to a couple of pints of London Pride and a plate of spicy Thai noodles. The service is always fast and cheerful no matter how busy it gets and this place attracts a lot of people. The Thai food is excellent and last time I got the Pad Kee-Mao or Drunken Noodles, it was delicious and it was very spicy. I will order again it was so good.

Google
Did not get any food but the refreshments and atmosphere are top notch. Everything I expect as an American from a British pub. The location in South Kensington is great. Bus stop just outside the premises make it easy to hop on and go where you need to go.

Google
When I visited, it was busy and full of energy , definitely a popular spot. The outside is covered in flowers, and the inside is full of old decorations and British memorabilia, which gives it a lot of character. It’s a fun place to stop by, even just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Would recommend if you’re in Notting Hill!

Google
Such a beautiful pub! Limited seating inside but luckily grabbed the last table. Every inch of space on the walls and ceiling is taken up with fascinating memorabilia. Even being so busy we had no problem getting our drinks. Please note it is only Thai food served here. We really enjoyed our time and would love to visit again.

Google
Great food and drink in a spectacular setting, nothing like seeing the whole facade in bloom! Make sure you get a reservation, seating is limited. Having been here both during a quiet hour and a busy spell, can testify that service is unaffected, great both times! Highly recommend the wings and dumplings, and their Pad Kee-Mao is excellent.

Google
By far the west Thai food I've had in the UK. Food was really sweet and absolutely tasteless. The restaurant was boiling hot with no air conditioning. The price for this garbage was definitely not worth the money. Save your self a trip it's no Michelin star for 5 years

Yelp
VERY SMALL AND COZY PLACE. Were there during holidays so it was a no-win situation trying to sit in the pub any time after 3pm (the Xmas lights come on at 430pm in early December) Soooo we ordered food in the Thai restaurant First of all YUM!!!! Food was DELICIOUS Second of all the service was amazingly nice and attentive We got vegetable spring rolls, dumplings, pad Thai and pad khing All were amazing We ordered drinks with our meal at the table and they let us continue to just order drinks after the meal so we didn't have to stand in the now PACKED pub of revelers waiting for the Xmas lights to be lit. Great place to visit inside and out

Yelp
We were only in town for a week and made our reservations three months in advance. On the day of the reservation, they canceled on us out of the blue, claiming there was an "electrical problem." They never answered our calls, so we emailed them asking for alternatives. Someone replied, offering one available spot on a specific date. We responded within a minute try to confirm, but after that, they completely ghosted us. No matter how many times we called or emailed, we never heard back. This place is absolutely not worth it. Worst customer service ever!

Yelp
This is a great place. One of our first stops after we arrived in London. It was a lovely late summer day, and we wandered in, thinking no tables would be available. Wrong. We found a two-top right by the bar. It's heavy on foot traffic but easy enough. The bar is super friendly. We sampled many before we made our way on to our next endeavor. There was no food this time, but others around had what looked like lovely plates of curry dishes. I highly recommend Churchill Arms when in London. Lovely inside and out.

Yelp
First let me say this place was absolutely packed when we arrived. The atmosphere both inside and out was very cutesy and quaint. If I didn't know there was a Thai restaurant inside, I never would've guessed it was anything but a traditional pub. Our dinner reservation was at 6 pm and we had to fight thru the shoulder-to-shoulder throng of people to reach the restaurant, but once we did, it was like its own little world. The food was delicious and service was fast.

Yelp
Fantastic Thai experience in the back of The Churchill Arms. Look. Normally I say spicy and at best, it's tepid but be warned, here, hot means HOT! But I loved it! If you're craving Thai food that truly delivers on flavor, this spot is an absolute must-visit. Each dish bursts with authentic, bold flavors--perfectly seasoned and packing just the right amount of heat. The spices aren't just there for show; they're thoughtfully balanced to complement the fresh ingredients, creating layers of taste that make every bite delicious. If you love Thai cuisine with a punch of spice and true depth of flavor, you won't be disappointed here. Also. The plants!

Yelp
A family member recommended this pub as a picturesque spot while visiting Notting Hill/Kensington, and I'm so glad I went. From the Notting Hill Gate tub stop, it's about a 7 minute walk. It's also pretty close to the Kensington Gardens if you'd like to go before or after the pub. When we arrived, it was super crowded. Folks were drinking outside the pub because all tables were taken inside. It didn't take too long for us to order (got a Pimm's Lemonade and a pint of Guinness), and thankfully a table right next to the door opened up after we received our drinks. The Pimm's Lemonade was meh, but the Guinness was great (could def taste the difference between the tap and a can). Next time, I would love to return to try the Thai restaurant in the back!

Yelp
Thai food in a setting of a pub, it is as amazing as it sounds. I ate here for lunch on whim about a decade ago and have been wanting to come back ever since. I'm so happy we were able to get in and get a table in the bar area without much waiting. I got a good cider from the bar and had a wonderful pad si-ew with chicken. We were really hungry and also ordered some spring rolls and they came out super quick. If you are not from the area, this place is worth a stop because of the ambience as well as the yummy food. I'm going to try to go again before I leave!

Yelp
The Churchhill Arms is such a cool concept. You have a traditional English Pub in the front and an authentic Thai restaurant in the back. To no surprise this place was packed in the front and in the back but we lucked out and were able to get the only table available so we were able to sit down for some beers and Thai food. I will say they do take a reservations so for peace of mind I suggest planning ahead. Once seated we checked out the menu and there were so many delicious sounding options so picking what to order we knew would be tough. We started with apps of course. We went with the Dumpling s and the Spring Rolls. We also noticed that their prices were really good too. Some of the best we saw in London. The Springs Rolls were very good and came with 6 which was great. My favorite of the 2 were the Dumplings though. I was thinking the dumplings would be more like gyoza but these were more like Shumai which I prefer. For my entrée I had to go with the Pad Kee-Mao which we Americans know it as Drunkin Noodles. For 12 quid you get the option of Beef, Pork, Chicken, Prawn, or Veg. You're not going to be that in London. The Pad Kee-Mao was amazing. Good spice without it being over powering. Plenty of flavorful saucy noodles with lots of tender beef. I also good to try the Panang Curry and The Pad Thai which were also great. The Churchhill Arms is for sure an amazing place to stop for a pint and some great Thai food.

Yelp
This has got to be the most beautiful exterior of a pub I have ever seen. It is worth it for you to at least walk by, take a picture, and maybe pop in for a beer of a bite. I knew I had wanted to visit this pub since I saw pictures online ages ago. As I approached and say the gorgeous plants, flags, and signage ... I was not disappointed. The interior is spacious, but it was busy when we visited. There is no host/hostess, so, be prepared that it is on you to procure a table. The staff was nice enough, not overly friendly, but it's a pub, and I didn't necessarily expect 5-star service. There are plenty of drink options (mostly beer). The decor is chaotic and cluttered, but it works, and creates a fun environment. I wish I had time to try some of their Thai food. It smelled amazing as it passed by our table. Some tips: This pub is near the Nottinghill area. So, if you get a chance, check out the colorful buildings and the neat Portobello Market. If it's busy and packed, split up to search for seating. Odds are people all just having a pint or two and will be in and out shortly. The Thai menu looks amazing, but don't come in expecting typical English pub food. Also, the men's restroom had the most pungent urine smell that you could actually smell it harts away in the pub area. So, you might have to hold your breath as you go in. All in all, it was a fun time, and I would definitely go back! Cheers!!

Karen Whitworth ..

Yelp
Ok--atmosphere is excellent! This is the epitome of an English pub! Small, comfortable and well appointed. We came in for just a drink and one of the bartenders was just rude. "We don't do cocktails here!" okay that's fine, I'll have a pint. After he pours the pint, I ask about a Black Velvet, hard cider and Guinness, not a cocktail and they have both on tap, he seems offended. Really?! I had no problem getting one in other pubs here. "We don't mix things here--I can give you a pour of each and you can do it yourself" =twice the cost--never mind. He was so put off that I even asked. I would recommend that he just be a little more polite, after all this place is a tourist hot spot.

Yelp
Great English Pub. We saw the Christmas lights on Instagram and had to come visit, along with half of London. It was packed. Great beer, and there was Thai food next door. Definitely a place to visit, the lights are amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
The Churchill Arms has a Winston Churchill interior theme and they claims to have been the first London pub with a Thai restaurant. They told us they have been in business since the early 1990s. The restaurant is decorated with live flowers and plants. The pub at the entrance has a small bar and is decorated with all types of things associated with Winston Churchill. Keep in mind, this is not a museum, so no actual memorabilia is kept at this place. Go to take pictures. The service and food is mediocre.
google avatar

Dara R.

Yelp
One of the most atmospheric pubs we stopped at in London. A quick walk from the tube stop after walking through Notting Hill. It's absolutely stunning outside and inside is packed to the gills with paraphernalia and people. If you do not like crowds or tight spaces, this is not the stop for you. Or maybe just send a friend in for pints while you wait outside. I love that they allow everyone ti drink along the sidewalk. I did not eat there, but the Thai food did smell delicious.
google avatar

Courtney O.

Yelp
If you're in London, you must visit an English pub and the Churchill Arms is a beautiful one! The greenery covering the exterior walls of the Churchill Arms are gorgeous. They keep everything well groomed and up kept so that the greenery covering the building is always fresh, even during the winter! While I think a trip to Notting Hill isn't absolutely essential (unless you're a huge Julia Roberts/Hugh Grant fan!), if you find yourself in the area, visit this pub!
google avatar

Belinda N.

Yelp
Average Thai food, pricey too but lovely drinks and vibe inside.. on a great street too
google avatar

Randall F.

Yelp
This place is a Christmas wonderland... and a pub that serves Thai food? Yes please! My only complaint is that they didn't really have a "medium hot" option. So to avoid being burned out by Thai native spice we ended up with relatively mild food. They kindly gave us chili sauce to fix it but I'd have appreciated an option in the middle. The Thai food and pub (though under one roof) are two separate businesses fyi.
google avatar

Yelp
If you read any blogs or watch any videos on places to go in London chances are you've probably already heard of The Churchill Arms. With the beautiful outside the quaint inside and the delicious food it was a great stop for our group to grab a bite to eat. Our group loves Asian cuisine, in fact Yelp some times reminds me how much I love it by reminding me I eat at a lot of Asian restaurants. All of the food we ordered was wonderful and if you asked for a spicy dish they were not afraid to add the spice. I ordered the Penang Curry with chicken which was nice and creamy with almost a very very minor amount of spice, honestly I would not have said there was any spice but someone I was mentioned it being spicier than expected. The Pad Kee-Mao beef was everyone's favorite however it was spicy but spicy in an adds more flavor way not just hot for the sake of being hot. My only warning is they did not move fast in this restaurant so know what you are wanting if you are in a rush.
google avatar

Charley K.

Yelp
A friend who lives in the area brought us here for dinner tonight. We were very excited as she has been coming here for years and highly recommended it. I ordered Pad Thai spicy, and it did not come close to being spicy. Asked for chilis and was told they had something better, a red powder. It was not spicy, either. Finally got some chilis and those did the trick. That said, the Pad Thai lacked the normal amount of veggies we get back in the US. Also, they were slow to get our drink orders, delivering a beer and glass of wine, followed by appetizers, and eventually the second beer. Now for the fun part, after being there 45 minutes, we asked for a second round. Two beers and they have us the check before the wine showed up. We were not ready to leave, but they told us "no more than one hour and you need to leave." Terrible experience and recommend avoiding this place. We had to ask them to remove the added service charge(labelled as optional, but they clearly thought they deserved it) because they did not provide service, they just wanted us out. We found out the owner lives in Thailand and this place is run by a corporation. There are so many delicious Thai places run by small businesses, please seek them out and avoid this place.
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
Touristy? Yes. But you'll still see a fair amount of locals. A great stop on any trip to Nottingham hill or Kensington palace. The food here is Thai, which for batter or worse, I could not bring myself to try(I'm fiercely particular with my Thai food). In addition I had coveted dinner reservations. The bar is beautiful inside and out, with great service, and drinks are quintessential British.
google avatar

Isha S.

Yelp
It's cool that there's a Thai spot inside a pub, and the outside looks great but the food itself is not high quality. Service was quick and friendly, so recommend it as an experience but would not go for the Thai. We got the jungle curry and the green curry with some beers, solid spice level.
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
The Churchill Arms offers a welcoming environment for socializing, unwinding and review of the days great moments along with opportunity to combine laughs and laughter with amazine cuisine.
google avatar

Muvva F.

Yelp
The best Thai food in London. A great pub. Lots of incredible people watching. Maybe a little touristy, but just be thankful we still have tourists in London. Everything is great at the CA.
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
Wow Fantastic Thai Food in the restaurant at the back of the pub-the garden area. So delicious-we highly recommend it! We had pad Thai and one of the stir fry entrees both were delicious! Only here in London for a short time but we plan on coming back!
google avatar

Arpita H.

Yelp
Really packed as it was nob hill carnival day and also Sunday. First pub in London we visited. Really good decor with old feels and lot of old stuff and newspaper articles. Just had a London pride beer and stood most of the time as we couldn't find a seat. Fun vibes. Everyone was drinking on the streets as there was no space inside.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
I'd rate Churchill Arms four and a half stars. We were walking by and I noticed they had Fuller's on tap. Fuller's doesn't seem to be as ubiquitous in London as it was a decade ago, so I decided to stop and pay homage. I had a pint of ESB and was delighted. I was even more surprised and delighted to find a Thai restaurant in the kitchen rather than the standard pub fare. Didn't have the food but I loved the twist. Service was quick. It was super busy even on a Sunday night.
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
I love the look of the place so much it's very much my vibe, I got the pad thai and it was so good i definitely recommend. I would have gotten it more spicer, but nonetheless it was definitely one of the best i've eaten.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
When in London you have to come here for a beer. The outside is a landmark for a quick photo, but the beer will keep you here for hours. They offer regular brews and also cask ales. You can also grab a half pint if you want to try many. Cheers!
google avatar

Scot B.

Yelp
Was expecting fish and chips at a pub as a tourist, but I enjoyed the Thai food. It was very good, but I am only going to give this 4 stars because I could barely taste the food because the spice level was overpowering . Customers should probably be given a spice level choice between 1 and 5. I am accustomed to very spicy food, so I want to warn those who think they can handle spice. If you get the spicy pad thai, be warned it is 5 out of 5 in heat. This is coming from a guy who eats jalapeños and Serrano peppers. I can handle heat and love spicy Mexican food. That being said, if I wasn't used to HOT spicy food, this would not have been edible. I drank one beer with my meal. If I hadn't been training for this moment my whole life, I would have needed a pitcher of beer to put the fire out.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
I saw this bar was very picturesque and had good reviews, so gave it a try. It was very busy at dinner time, but we were lucky enough to get seated quickly. The spring rolls were good, but the pad Thai disappointed me. While the atmosphere was cool I don't think I would recommend this to someone over an option with better food.
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
The pub is classic and charming, but the Thai food is fantastic and affordable. Made for a delicious night in London-definitely a great evening!
google avatar

Hiral S.

Yelp
I had heard a lot about Churchill Arms through various insta posts. A friend mentioned that their food was really good. I was really expecting a touristy spot but we were in the area so decided to stop by. And I was pleasantly surprised. The pub had such a great vibe and was able to retain its charm. The crowd was primarily locals with some tourists. The bartender was so helpful and made me a really refreshing spritzer. And then the food- I was expecting the standard british fare but surprise - they had Thai. And it was one of the best Thai foods I have ever eaten. We ordered the spring rolls (I wasn't too keen) and the spicy noodles. I could actually taste the veggies in the spring rolls and the food was so flavorful. Overall this was a lovely evening. Highly recommend this pub while in London.
google avatar

Leanh E.

Yelp
My daughter and I truly enjoyed this bar and Thai food. If you are a history buff, going inside and seeing everything Churchill related, including the decor was fantastic. There is this soda called J20 that I have never had in the USA and I am now totally obsessed with it. The Thai food is separate from the bar and very delicious. The prices are very reasonable and it was great to have a pint of beer after the meal at the bar. Definitely recommend stopping here. Just a note, we were here I. The summer and lots of people enjoying the outdoors with the beautiful flowers outside.

Doug P.

Yelp
Super "authentic" pub experience. Except the food. They have a Thai menu & nestled into the back garden and entire restaurant. It's always packed so even the locals know it's good.
google avatar

Pierre R.

Yelp
The pad Thai noodles were extremely spicy in an almost overpowering way. The ambiance was cool, just a bit quiet for my taste.
google avatar

Justin O.

Yelp
Damn amazing Thai food + damn amazing beer + damn amazing ambiance = somewhere pretty damn near heaven
google avatar

Roman C.

Yelp
This was the first place we ate and drank at when we went to London and it was amazing. Best Thai food I've ever had and I'm from LA which is the land of Thai food...
google avatar

Samantha R.

Yelp
My family really enjoyed coming here after our tour of Kensington Palace. We forgot to take photos of the food but it was very delicious & full of flavor. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao & Panang curry. Both were a hit. I absolutely recommend this Thai place located in the back of the pub.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
A traditional English pub with world class Thai food? What? Really great experience. On a busy road. They dress up nice for Christmas.
google avatar

Caroline G.

Yelp
This is my second time in here. The last time, I sat at the bar and had some beers. This time, I had Thai food with my co-worked. Got the pad kee mao which was spicy and delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Eccentric restaurant and a must to visit while in London. The exterior is absolutely gorgeous. I was very surprised to see they serve Thai food, how unexpected but also very fitting to the whole theme of the restaurant. If you're going for drinks, absolutely reserve in advance, but for the restaurant you should have no problem finding a seat. Keep in mind they may both be in the same building, they do not operate the same. The bartender at the entrance will say to sit anywhere but once you've passed the halfway point of the building there is a sign that will say wait to be seated and that's the restaurant half. The staff is quite strict about that and the fact that you will only have 1 hour to eat. Ordered the Thai iced tea and the pad Thai, keeping it simple. It was good, great portion for the price. I even took some home but they charged me for the plastic container. All in all worth the experience!
google avatar

W C.

Yelp
Come for the beautiful facade and ambience, but don't make the same mistake we did, which was to order food. The exterior of the building is beautiful and classic, with flowers bursting everywhere--the whole thing screams BRITISH PUB. The interior does not disappoint either...the front rooms are charmingly authentic with paraphernalia everywhere, and felt like they'd been there for a hundred years. The back room (where we were eventually sat) is like you're in a botanical garden. The woman who took us to our table was gruff and terse, and the final words that she barked at us were "you have one hour to eat." Well, OK, then! We eat got a Fuller's--one lager and one ESB. The lager was crisp and fresh, and while one of us liked the ESB, you have to be really in the mood for a flatter, warmer, and rich beer. The food is Thai, which we knew upon making our reservation a few weeks ago. The dumplings app (that came out two minutes after we ordered it) had some rubbery meat that we couldn't quite identify and wrapper practically disintegrated off. Also, they were more like cups than dumplings, so that was odd. We got the pad si-ew with prawns, which wasn't bad, per se, though it was too dry. Just more...meh. The green curry had a nice spicy flavor, but the portion was TINY (a mini bowl on a plate), the broth was watery, and the chicken was 0% fresh. Dishes were also--no surprise!--ridiculously overpriced. So yeah, there's really no need to eat at The Churchill Arms, and most of the staff seemed miserable and unhappy to be working there. Have a pint, soak up the environment, and then be on your merry little way.

Yelp
Delicious dinner! The inside of the pub is really cool, lots to look at. It's really popular so you can expect a wait. For dinner we started with the Thai iced tea and spring rolls which were very tasty. I had a chicken cashew dish which was really tasty and I sampled the curry which was also delicious. Definitely a great stop for Thai!

Yelp
Good food and atmosphere. Nice traditional pub to round out our London stay. The meat pie mashed potatoes and mushy peas were exceptional.

Yelp
Quaint pub with beautiful flowered exterior. Inside is cozy and a little small. There are three main parts: the front bar, the restaurant section in back and a pub room between them. We stopped in for a pint and maybe a snack. The front was full at 3:00 on a Sunday. Tried the middle room and we were told at least 3 times in 2 minutes that there was a two drink minimum and we must each order a full meal to sit in that pub section. We left. MANY other pubs to choose from with a more casual vibe. Wont be back.

Yelp
Review is for the Thai food in the back of the pub. I was expecting something more special, it was average at best. Definitely better thai available in many places. But it's a great experience inside the Churchill Arms pub.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Outside flower display is beautiful and caught our eye and the reason we entered the pup. Prices are not bad at all. Only thing like most pubs was very dark inside but still a great vibe.
