"The Citizen Hotel is primo for those with business on their minds, but that doesn’t mean it’s all corporate vibes at this downtown spot. In fact, Grange, tucked inside the hotel, is proof positive that business and pleasure mix with fine results. High ceilings and an arched shelf stacked with liquor instantly draw the eye, while wood tables lined with orange leather banquettes balance style and comfort. If visiting midday, opt for the Power Lunch and enjoy three courses for a palatable price. The menu shares a farm-focused sensibility with rustic creations. Mojo pork loin spread with calabrese bomba on toasted bread is simple and tasty, not unlike the dependably creamy broccoli-arugula soup. Hazelnut cake with strawberry and chocolate ends things on a sweet note." - Nancy DePalma

Just checked in for a week stay in a king corner room. Will update when I have more experience here. I will say I'm extremely dissatisfied with the fact that there is literally nowhere to put your stuff! Seriously, not 1 dresser, not 1 nightstand with a drawer, the bathroom is tiny with no counter space. There are areas for a dresser, I guess no one thought it was important. The TV is the size of a computer monitor. No microwave. Tiny area to hang clothes with 6 hangers in it.

Stayed for one night to go to the A's game and although there were closer hotels I'm glad we booked this one. It is a beautiful old hotel. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings and ours overlooked the park. The bed and linens were so comfortable. A highlight was the staff as no matter who we encountered they were all so nice and welcoming at check in and during the stay. The Grange bar restaurant is pricey but food was good and it was convenient when we came back from the game looking for late night eats. Tips: ask for a corner room. Gym is on the 6th floor.

The best thing about The Citizen during my visit was the Valet staff. These young men were polite, personable and attentive. Kudos to each and every one of them. Check in was a bit off and not warmly welcoming. I also inquired about a late check out since I was participating in a half marathon the next day and I was told that they didn’t have it but they would be happy to hold my luggage. Upon my later hotel website search, I found that they did indeed offer late check out, upon which I called the front desk and secured it. The room was very small, had no luggage rack nor bathroom storage for personal items and the shower head had a constant drip. The one positive was that the bed was very comfortable. Check out was far better, with welcoming smiles. I had forgotten to use the $10 food and beverage credit when I dined at the Grange the previous night but was told I could still use it at their mini grocery, which I appreciated.

Even the suites are small. I would call them two closets with a hallway between them. This would be considered closet space in another hotel . We were to get a text when the room was ready . Didn’t . We gave our Bonvoy number at booking to the young woman on the phone at the hotel . No record of it. Really disappointing. Staff was gracious enough but these rooms should not be sold as suites ….$500-$600 for closet space.

My stay at The Citizen Hotel, Autograph Collection in Sacramento was a major letdown, especially for a 4-star hotel charging a couple hundred dollars per night. I expected top-notch service and comfortable rooms, but what I got was far from it. Upon entering my room on the 13th floor, I was shocked to discover it had only a half window, making it feel like a basement—dark, cramped, and nothing like the “stunning downtown views” advertised. This wasn’t disclosed when I booked, and it set a poor tone for the stay. The room’s condition only made things worse. The blanket was stained and dirty, and the bedding was incomplete, with open sheets that didn’t fully cover it, making the bed look sloppy. For a luxury hotel, this level of neglect is unacceptable. To top it off, I was nickel-and-dimed with a $9.95 daily Wi-Fi fee—surprising for a 4-star property—and a $4 charge for a bottle of water, which felt exorbitant. Service was another disappointment. The staff was average at best, and when I raised concerns about the room and fees, I felt brushed off. A hotel of this caliber should prioritize guest satisfaction, but that wasn’t my experience. The downtown location is convenient, and the political-themed decor is charming, but these positives couldn’t outweigh the subpar room and service. Overall, The Citizen Hotel didn’t deliver on its 4-star promise. The undisclosed half-window room, dirty bedding, extra fees, and lackluster service made this stay feel like a budget hotel at a luxury price. I won’t be back unless significant changes are made.

Stayed here for a work event. I had a room on the 6th floor with a view of the park. The bathroom was nearly as big as the entire room. I was very happy with the amenities and accommodations. It’s a bit on the pricy side, but it fit the bill for my needs.

Google
Rooms were small and the bathroom was even smaller . It's a historic building so I guess that's to be expected but even with an upgrade was to small for me . The light in the center of the room was a plus . Would of liked a pool and hot tub , especially on vacation.

Arrived with baby to a room without A/C, front desk offered complimentary breakfast and brought us two fans. We did not stay. Update: On our way out I requested my Vehicle from valley at 11:40AM, car arrived at 12:55AM, after an hour we asked front desk if they could check on the car, the person said the valley person was doing a terrible job and they needed to fire that person. The valley person told us sorry as we left, he was the only person working at that time. We ended up staying at the Hampton Inn on 65th St. , highly recommend staying there instead, everything is updated, clean, breakfast is good, lots of parking and there’s coffee in the lobby at all times. There is a train stop right in front of the building that can take you down town for $2.50 or you can buy a $7.00 Daily Pass you can buy your ticket at the machine or download the Zip Pass app. Ther is also a Target near by and a couple of businesses.

Yelp
I visited The Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, CA on Monday, 2/3/25, around 5 PM. I primarily came here due to attending a special reception & networking event hosted by ITUP. What I truly appreciated was the delicious food served throughout the entire event. In terms of light bites, I tried: * Fried Chicken with Dijon Mustard * Crostini * Egg Roll * Mini Pickle, Mozzarella Cheese, and Salami Stick For dinner, I got: * Seared Wild Atlantic Salmon (w/ lemon vapor brown butter) * Mary's Roasted Chicken Breast (w/ chicken jus) * Farm Lettuce Salad (w/ shaved vegetables, champagne vinaigrette) * Roasted Seasonal Vegetables * Whipped Potatoes (w/ garlic, chives) * Chef's Choice Pasta (w/ vegetable ragu, grana padano) * Butternut Squash Bisque (w/ pumpkin seeds, maple crème fraiche) The cocktail drink, Pomegranate Progress (Corazon Silver, pomegranate, and lime juice) was strong and enjoyable. All of the staff members were friendly and attentive. The Metropolitan Terrace (7th floor) was an inviting space, as it provided a beautiful ambiance. The views from the 7th floor were fantastic. Overall, The Citizen Hotel provides a wonderfully excellent venue for special events.

Yelp
I love the old art deco meets modern vibe. The Citizen is beautiful and decorated with such good taste. Many old design features were kept in the design inside and out and I love the charm of the political theme throughout. Staff for the most part was delightful from the front desk, to the bar, and room service breakfast was quick and delicious. The room was very clean and VERY spacious! The hotel is located within walking distance to many restaurants and activities. What was not quite right: The valets are the first and last impression. And they were not very professional. (The girls specifically ) were standing there gossiping within earshot of all the guests who were huddled waiting under their umbrella stand for their cars. Then the one young lady with the radio could be heard cussing at a non guest who had pulled up in front of a valet bringing a guests car. "This is not a parking space you f*ing b*tch!" It was raining, lots of traffic, and it was stressful as it was checkout time on a Saturday, but that was so unnecessary. The beautiful bathroom was so spacious and the shower lovely and spotless but the water pressure was very sad. And in the morning the water temperature was lukewarm at best Other than those minor things this hotel would actually get a perfect score! And like I said, pretty minor so I would come back for sure.

Yelp
The Citizen is a lovely, historic hotel and I stayed there recently two nights for work. The service was very nice. I ordered room service and asked for a bottle of water which they forgot but didn't charge me. When I called down, they immediately sent up two bottles free of charge. Very classy. The first night I stayed there, the couple next door was making a porno???? and decided to try and be as loud as they possibly could. I guess a Thursday night session is great but some of us have to go to work on Friday. I called down to Guest Services and explained that what should have been over in a half hour was going on and on and on. Either she was a professional and really trying to get a tip (no pun intended) or they were starting and stopping for what reason I'm sure I don't know. Regardless, the front desk chick I complained to seemed amused at my colorful description and sent security to handle it. It took three calls total to finally shut this couple up and fast forward to midnight when I was finally able to go to sleep. Thank you energizer bunny couple. All in all, excellent staff at the Citizen and with the government discount it was reasonable. Would stay again.

Yelp
Was here for a conference. The staff was some of the best I've ever met. I felt valued from the moment I walked in. Every touch point was lovely. But the real gold star goes to the catering staff. The place is kinda old and you'll definitely age yourself a couple of years just waiting in the elevator.... But the hotel in general is kept up well. The lighting was a bit dark for my liking. Especially with it being my first time there. But it added to the vibe of the place.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my stay at The Citizen. A friend booked it for a trip we recently took for a concert so I walked in having no idea what to expect. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! The lobby is a dream - walls covered in bookshelves filled with books, oversized, comfy chairs, soft lighting. It makes you want to stay and hang in the lobby the entire time, except for the rooms are so comfy as well! I loved the political decor. It was very tastefully done and the quotes on the walls were smart and thought-provoking. Staff were helpful, except one night I called in the middle of the night in desperate need of some water bottles and they made me walk down to the front desk to get them. That sucked, but I had no choice. Location is great, too! Lots within walking distance! I will absolutely be staying here again next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Awesome hotel!!! I felt appreciated as a customer!!!! I love the art deco decor of this hotel! Upon entering the hotel, valet held the door open for me. I was greeted by the hotel receptionist. Checking in was super easy. I was greeted with a free glass of champagne. I felt so fancy. They offered tasty water in the lobby. Next to the hotel lobby is a seating area that also has an upstairs sitting/entertainment area. Wow it was so cool. My room itself was very cool. There was a comfortable bed. The bathroom design was really cool with the tile flooring and the subway tile in the shower. There was a desk where you can do some work. My room had a small window, but it was cool to peer out into the city. I slept amazing here. I heard no noises from the downtown area. They provided ear plugs if needed. There's funky art throughout the hotel to enjoy. The hotel can hold your luggage for you when you check out if you need to for a few hours. Super handy as I had to work in downtown for the day. There's public parking garages all around, easy to access. The Grange Bar right outside the hotel entrance was really cool. They make strong cocktails. I hope to stay here next time I'm in downtown Sacramento. The building has very rich history I recommend reading up on the history of the hotel before you stay, and you will get so much more out of your stay. There's a gym. Not sure if there was a pool, I was here on business so I didn't look into it. I can't recommend this place enough. Even if you can't stay, you can hang out in the lobby or grab a drink at the Grange bar.

Kimberly E.

Yelp
Fun hotel very vintage, great food and drinks in hotel restaurant, The Range. $$$$. Rooms were very small and so was the window however the view was nice and the bathroom, bed/linens were very nice. For $165 definitely worth the stay. Would book again.

Janey N.

Yelp
I am currently suffering the WORST hotel stay that I have ever experienced in my entire life! The room is tiny, There is No, I mean NO sound insulation at all. I can hear all conversations taking place on the street. The cross walk plays a coo coo noise all night long when it is safe to cross and you hear it in the room as if you are sleeping in the cross walk. The traffic noise is unbelievably loud. This room is not fit to be a storage closet ! The TV does not work and they can't fix it. Lastly, the steak ( ha ! ) I received when I ordered it was the world's largest slab of fat and gristle I have ever seen! THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!!!!! I would give it negative 5 stares if Yelp would let me.

Laressa C.

Yelp
Leah provided excellent customer service in checking me into my room today, as I'm attending a conference here. It's a beautiful hotel and room. Very hospitable. Thank you!

Whitney I.

Yelp
This is my first time staying at the Citizen Hotel and it was amazing!!! We reserved their rooms for a work event and all the staff I worked with, before and after the event, were kind, accommodating, and hospitable. Shout out to the entire team there because everyone was so great and our event was a huge success. I got the standard two queen bed room and it was so nice! The bathroom and shower was huge!!! Overall, amazing time here.

Ginger D.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel in downtown Sacramento! Stayed for the first time last Friday. The room was gorgeous. The lobby is small but very cute. The bathroom has amazing lighting. Would come back for sure!

Stephen B.

Yelp
We've stayed at this property a few times. The hotel is in historic building from the 1920's. The restored building is amazing in and of itself. However. The atmosphere inside is kind of cool. A little dark towards the back reception desk, but that's the nature of the building. So it works. The elevators have politically oriented thought provoking quotes. And the rooms are amazing. Is it perfect... of course not. It's 100 year old building at the staff work miracles to refresh it every single day. And from what I saw this time they're doing a good job. I've stayed in 1,000's of Marriott rooms. Which is to say I've been away from home too much. However, this property continues to impress. This time I had the opportunity to say in the Governor Suite. The pictures don't do it justice. But it was a treat to say the least. The funniest part however was the fitness center. Well setup. Good equipment. But the walls were decorated with images of burgers. Fries. Milkshakes and donuts. Lol. Not El Cap or Denali. We will repeat. Again and again. Highly recommend. Be nice to the staff. They're doing their best. Stuff happens.

Fernando M.

Yelp
I've stayed here at the Citizen many times over the past several years. Before I moved to Sacramento, I would visit for weekend trips with friends or my significant other and almost always stayed here. There's something really fun and interesting about the historical and political theme of the hotel that I'm drawn to. The service I've received has always been stellar and accommodating. The rooms themselves are charming and tastefully decorated. As far as location, staying here puts you right in the center of a lot of awesome restaurants and attractions within walking distance. To echo what some have already said, there is no free parking in the area but they do have valet service. It's also worth noting that the Cesar Chavez park across the street is very lively and is sometimes host to live music events, fairs and festivals which can create some noise; this park is also home to many of the city's homeless though they tend to keep to themselves. Overall, the hotel decor/theme and location are reasons I recommend the Citizen to friends, family and anyone planning a stay here in the Sacramento.

Whitney G.

Yelp
OMG! This hotel was so beautiful and amazing! The staff was so polite and helpful. The building looks old and historical, just the entrance and checkin got me excited to see the rest. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom was gorgeous with a big walk in shower and subway tiles. And the bed.... I didn't want to get up it was so comfortable! We had drinks and appetizers downstairs at Grange Restaurant & Bar. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was super fun. I would definitely stay here again!

Donna H.

Yelp
The shampoo was watery and smelt like urine. We opened the bottle and it was yellow. So gross. On a positive note, the staff was amazing...valet, checking in and bag service.

Bryn S.

Yelp
WAY BETTER THAN THE KIMPTON SAWYER! These rooms are massive with a huge bathroom. I am impressed. The service was absolutely SPECTACULAR AS WELL! Such nice people helping me check in. I will never stay at the Kimpton ever again. The Citizen hotel will be my go-to from now on.

Jason L.

Yelp
Great valet service, great check in and beautiful room overlooking the park, the bed is very comfortable and the decor is ideal. Looks like my room was just renovated. I am glad to stay here and I would pick this hotel again, thanks for the excellent experience

Jo O.

Yelp
The customer service was not up to standards. Was trying to stay for specific event and the establishment had no clue as to what was happening at their hotel. Also couldn't offer any information or discounts for out of town clients. Not the best way to host or accommodate clients. SUPER SAD IN TODAYS WORLD OF MONEY!

Jeff M.

Yelp
First of all, the staff was friendly and helpful during my stay. No complaints there. Now on to the bad parts. I was in a corner suite on the 8th floor. I could hear loud music all night until 2am. Earplugs are a must. We all know to expect bad water pressure in a hotel shower, so I didn't think it would be possible to have a shower with intensely high, painful and borderline dangerous water pressure. The water gets hot very quickly and then it's difficult to turn down the temperature because the spray is so strong. Steam accumulates very quickly as well due to the combination of heat + pressure, with no outlet. I was supposed to stay for 2 nights and ended up leaving after 1 night. You may have a great time but unfortunately I wouldn't return.

Bill S.

Yelp
The Mrs. and I spent last night at The Citizen Hotel. I'll begin by saying the I'm very critical of my fellow Yelpers when they trash a hotel. My philosophy is that if you're staying at a hotel and expecting that your experience is going to be over the top incredible, you need to lower your standards. We arrived shortly after 1 p.m. I had checked in through the Marriott Bonvoy app the day before so all I had to do was collect my key from the front desk. We were assigned room 502. It was beautifully appointed with a very comfortable king sized bed. A desk, tv and a large bathroom with a walk in shower. The room was very clean. The rooms are pretty small. The building that houses the Citizen was built in 1925 and housed an insurance company. It was one of the first high rise buildings in Sacramento. It wasn't converted to a hotel until the last few years. The entrance and lobby are beautiful. The lobby is paneled with dark wood that give it a sleek and sexy look. There is a restaurant and bar on site called Grange that get four stars on Yelp. The front desk staff were very friendly. The valet staff were very young. I think I'm old enough to be their dad. Valet parking is $40 a day. Very reasonable considering San Francisco hotels charge upwards of $60 to $100 a day.

Kristen P.

Yelp
I can't give The Citizen a 5 because it was loud. In the morning once people started checking out and housekeeping started it got very loud. We were close to a housekeeping closet I think but it seemed like that closet was getting open and slammed shut all the time. There was also a pretty loud humming off and on. Otherwise I enjoyed it. We needed extra towels and got them in minutes, the person who checked us in Friday was warm and friendly, the valet in the morning was so fast and took our bags to pack our car, something I don't see that often anymore. The room was nice and the bathroom was huge. The bed was comfy and it was nice and dark for sleeping. Everything was clean and fresh. Unfortunately the hotel is not in the nicest part of Sacramento, but that's not their fault and I never felt unsafe.

John C.

Yelp
The building and decor are okay, a little dark and dated in parts but not a problem. Service is basically non-existent, from the valet, to checking in, to finding your room, don't expect any assistance, actually barely expect eye contact, never mind service

Amy N.

Yelp
My review will be based on a visit due to a business conference being held here, not an overnight stay. The hotel is beautiful inside the lobby with beige tiled floors and walls, and intricate ceiling design and interior decor. Check-in desk will be straight ahead and scheduled events will be displayed on the wooden board. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare. My first time visiting, I accidentally drove right past the hotel because the road was so busy with so many businesses nearby so it was difficult to look at the map while also looking for open parking to pull into. Looped back around and had no space to pull over to wait for valet because it was filled up. Looped one more time and had to hold up traffic for a second while I switched places with the valet staff. Expect to get honked at from behind. The conference room was spacious and right down the hall from restrooms. Not too many hallways so it was easy to find our way to and back from the elevator. I do question why conference rooms do not have windows for natural lighting and more air circulation (dim lights make me sleepy) but maybe that's just the layout of older hotels. It was not a bad experience. Unlike the initial parking experience, upon retrieving the vehicle they will park it at the closest parking spot on the block. This can range from right at the front of the hotel to down the block past the neighboring businesses. Not too bad of a walk unless there are some random people lurking around. I don't believe I saw security so just take a peek out the door before going out.

Ellen S.

Yelp
Really nice, boutique hotel Friendly and warm welcome from the Valet to the front desk/concierge to housekeeping and room service. Elif was especially helpful as I needed to get a second room during the 3 night stay and was helpful to find one close by the first room. Was upgraded to the 13th floor which has a nice view. Also, from reading tips from you amazing Yelpers, it was a good thing too as there's a club on level 2/3 that can get loud. There was a wedding reception on Saturday night so we were glad to be on the higher floors as we had the IronMan early the next morning One really worrying thing was even with the do not disturb sign on the door, housekeeping still came in and 'cleaned' the room. However the worrying part was the sheet on the bed on disgusting large brown smears (was not the case the night before / morning before we went on our day) and the bed was fully made. You could not have missed the smears while making the bed so something is off. Immediately called them to get new bedding, but didn't sleep in that bed again. This was a two double bed room The rooms are decent size but the bathroom is huge, which is a plus! Plenty of hot water thought the shower valves are a little weak. Valet is friendly and efficient. There is either coffee or fruit/veggie (Lemon/Cucumber) tonic water in the lobby daily with some fruit to go (apples, bananas or oranges) which is a nice touch. The location is in the downtown, though the downtown area is a little 'rough' It hasn't come back from the pandemic - thus open homelessness, closed or boarded up shops, drugs, etc.

Julie S.

Yelp
Amazing staff, incredible decor and exceptionally clean. Great location and within walking distance to numerous restaurants.

Tiff U.

Yelp
Loved our weekend stay here.. staff was great, room was quiet, comfy and clean. Got upgraded to the 12th floor for the husbands bday and champagne upon check in It's a beautiful vintage feel but not with the vintage smell lol. My only complaint was the valet never came to open our door when we arrived and they are very sloww.. the restaurant Breakfast was delicious and very fresh also. Would love to come back! Homeless is everywhere downtown walking by occasionally but not bothersome at all.. just passing through... just fyi.

Chris C.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I am giving this hotel 2 stars. The room was nice and clean. Food was good but our room 1303 had constant noise from what we believe is the elevator mechanical room located next door. We complained but nothing was done to assist us. When we checked out we also had an issue with the bill being incorrect but they were quick to correct the issue. If you stay, do not stay in any room that is next to the elevator. Most likely any room ending in **03 as you will hear noises all night and morning. Would also like to add that there is a very large homeless problem and Sacramento and especially around the hotel.

Shelly B.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel right in the center of fun. Being one block from K Street, everything from food, drinks, and entertainment were only a short walk away. The room was clean and comfortable. The downside was no on-site parking and valid was expensive.

Eddie C.

Yelp
We had a business engagement to attend at this particular hotel. For this review, I'm just going to get to the point. More so just informational, as nothing good or bad really stood out... per say. Self parking is not an option. Valet is the only parking option provided by the hotel, otherwise it's public parking if you really don't want to valet. Let's just say I'm not the hand over the keys to my ride to a stranger, kinda guy. The hotel room was pretty tiny, especially for the exorbitant price. Decent decor but definitely nothing to write home about. An oddly large tent was the view from the window. Which is great if you like tents and I guess better than the view of an alley or rooftop AC. Room service is not offered. Conference rooms were for the most part, Eh. We arranged and confirmed a 2pm late checkout with the front desk, which is a standard benefit as Marriott member. We went to take some of our bags down at about noon and surprisingly enough, when we returned our room keys were no longer usable. Fortunately, a cleaning lady was nearby and was very helpful to let us in to retrieve our remaining bags. Not my worst hotel experience but definitely NOT one of the best. I will say the food from Grange restaurant which is attached to the hotel was pretty good!

Auriana N.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning hotel. Everything from my booking experience to check out was fantastic. The service was top notch. My room was situated with such a beautiful view. Everything was clean and well organized. The attached restaurant is fully stocked with American dishes and the bar was equally stocked with everything you could need. Valet service was on point, I mean what more could I have asked for. Great stay!

Mike D.

Yelp
At first sight, this hotel looks nice. Service is very good. However, the traffic noise from outside made sleeping difficult. Too many loud Harleys riding by the hotel entrance late at night. Consider staying outside downtown at a quieter property. Update: management moved me to the 4th floor and to a quieter section of the hotel. Definitely helped. Thank you.

Teah S.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed staying here. I booked this place for my gf and I as a little get away and were greeted with Prosecco upon checkin. The staff were amazing and extremely friendly. I was able to upgrade my room to a suite with a deep soaking bathtub. A perfect mixture of aged antique and modern feel to the room.

Little Girl B.

Yelp
Started out bad with the valet not even bothering to open my car door for me, and ended with me checking out early, on a three night stay that I prepaid over $700 for. I really feel bait and switched; the photographs on the website portray lovely, spacious rooms but when I walked in I was surprised that a king size bed could fit in a room that small. The room was overall unclean (e.g., cobwebs, filthy windows, some dried shnutz on the desk), and my "view" was of burned-out buildings and graffiti. The final straw was when one of the desk clerks asked how my stay was and I told him I was disappointed, and that it was my birthday weekend, and I was really looking forward to staying there, he didn't offer me any sort of remedy he just said "sorry your stay was bad." Thankfully, his coworker walked over to me while I was waiting for my Uber and kindly asked whether there was anything she could do, maybe move me to another room, or offer me some sort of discount, etc., but by that point, it was already too late. Right down to the free water I was handed upon check-in, and then charged $4.00 for in my room, there is no way in hell this could be considered a "luxurious, five star" hotel. I would not stay at this hotel again, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
Came to Sacramento for the Firefighter Memorial ceremony. We stayed two nights in this charming historic hotel. Location is excellent to the amazing memorial park as well as many restaurants and bars. Our room was very clean and the bed was super comfy. Staff were great, very helpful and friendly. The entrance doors were opened for us multiple times by the friendly staff that greeted us no matter if we were coming or going, they were all smiles and super welcoming. On site restaurant was just ok. The menu made me believe we were going to get some good food, but really wasn't that great. Our stay was very comfortable, would stay again!

Yelp
1) Second visit in a couple of years.. Valet Parking overnite $50 or park on the street...some homeless tents across the street. 2) Our large bathroom was up two stairs..closet in the bathroom 3) Grange Restaurant is 'in" the hotel - fabulous! Great Staff - menu topflight. Cannot wait to return. Very, very, impressive. 4) Nice room - freezing - couldn't get heater to turn on - Called front desk...waited for assistance...finally, we asked the maid - lovely - she turned the switch. Finally: nice linens...the pillows were large and so very, very, hard.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel for one night. The hotel itself is charming with some nice old-school touches. However, in the morning, there was no hot water and neither of the phones in the room worked so you cannot call down to guest services. When we went downstairs and told them about the lack of hot water, they apologized for the inconvenience but also remarked that it is an old building so.... I would not recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Well worth the stay. The architecture and interior design are like nowhere else. Reviews don't lie, the beds are extra comfortable for some reason. One of the cleanest rooms I've ever stayed in. I mean spotless. Not even a water stain anywhere in the bathroom. Captured this shot from the corner outside.

Yelp
The hotel is lovely, although the lobby is rather dark. The front desk people are excellent and helpful. My room was absolutely beautiful and light with a comfortable bed and nice decor. The restaurant is delicious! I will definitely stay here again. Down one star because the expensive valet service is slow and rather useless. The service is $49-$59 per night and the valets do not offer to help with luggage or assist in any way. There is also not enough valet staff. It took me thirty minutes to drop my car and forty minutes for my car to be retrieved.

Yelp
So not worth it Spent $250 for the night; and you are surrounded by a homeless community. Can't even walk the sidewalks without bothering the homeless. Room was small, room service was overpriced and flavorless. $50 overnight parking fee Go anywhere else

Yelp
Just want to leave a tip here - if you need a quiet room I suggest asking them not to place you at the end of the hall where the group of three rooms are. If someone shuts the door it's very loud. Woke me up well before my alarm.

Yelp
What a great spot! I spent the night here with my best friend the day after Christmas. From the valet, front desk and to the restaurant staff, the customer service was excellent. The building is historical and beautiful. The room is comfortable and spacious. The hotel restaurant, Grange, is worth a stop even if you're not a guest of the hotel. Be weary of the homeless on the streets and park nearby. There is also a parking garage the next block over. Review #2 of 100 for 2022.

Yelp
Didn't know that I would be staying at a "John Wick hotel" here--but this place really does look exactly like a John Wick movie set. Recently stayed here during a concert visit at the Golden 1 Arena in Jan-2022. This hotel location is ideally situated next to this new arena--it is only about 2.5 blocks of a walk to the arena, and there are plenty of folks walking along K Street. I'd recommend to walk on K Street, where the trolley goes through the middle of this street as it is the best lit and has the most restaurants along the way. There was also a small but quaint outdoor ice skating rink located right before reaching the Golden 1 Center shopping area. This district looks really new and has plenty of nice restaurants throughout. This looks to be a great place to eat before/after an event at the Golden 1 Center. Booked a couple King Suite Bedrooms that each had separate bedrooms, and red sleeper pull-out sofas in the "living room." Each King suite had a closet that housed a mini fridge, a safe, small coffee set and room for hanging clothes. In one of the rooms, the red sleeper pull-put sofa when fully opened nearly touches the desk in front of it. All staff we encountered were very professional and courteous especially the front desk woman and valet staff. Excellent service all around.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel. I used to always stay at Grand Sheraton but the service and beds are much nicer at Citizen hotel. I stayed on Monday night and from the checkin process- the lady showed me the breakfast menu and also was super helpful helping me navigate the hotel. The bartender was also nice when I ordered some wine and a cocktail to go to my room. I am coming back to Sac on Wed-Thurs for work and I have already booked my room at this hotel. Best hotel in Sac. Thanks for providing a clean hotel with extraordinary staff.

Yelp
The best thing about the Citizen is the Grange restaurant. The rooms are small and lacking in attention to functionality. You can't turn on the shower without getting wet and the lighting doesn't illuminate anything but the floor. Service was poor. I asked for coffee pods. After an hour, I was told by the front desk the hotel was out of coffee pods. As I was leaving my room, I asked the maid if she had coffee pods... she gave me a handful. Finally, the bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were horrible. Worst sleep. I will not return and I don't recommend anyone stay. You can dine in the restaurant without staying at the hotel.

Yelp
The hotel has a very cool vibe with great customer service! To make it even better, the on-site restaurant/bar The Grange is incredible! Only downfall is that you're across from Caesar Chavez Park so the homeless activity can be off putting at times. Would recommend this hotel!

Yelp
Loved the ambience and style. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to the Capitol and Convention Center. The Grange Restaurant in the Citizen was excellent.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Historic, yet modern. Excellent valet service. Good on site restaurant. The only issue was not separating the bill correctly at the end of stay.

Yelp
Stayed here for a family trip, everyone on the valet team was very kind and respectful. They went out of their way to help us. I had my two dogs with me and one of the valets helped me carry their crates into the car. I felt really bad because I didn't have any extra cash for a tip, but Edgar was very kind and told me not to worry and if I left a review he would really appreciate it. I would definitely come back based on my experience here.

Yelp
This hotel had a lot of vintage charm to it...felt very historical. It's in a good location in terms of accessing tourist activities, but it's in a very busy area and was super noisy at all hours (loud traffic noises and people walking downtown). There were many protests going on as well. In the park, they had set up several large speakers and were yelling into microphones for two days and well into the night (until like 11pm one night). Definitely not the hotel's fault, but they should really be aware of what's going on in the immediate area and warn their guests given the price of this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Bc of Covid, food options were limited and the rooms don't have microwaves, but anything you buy to eat, they will heat up for you. The bathroom and room itself were spotless! And HUGE! Even had room in the bathtub for soaking! But the plug didn't work :( The room had a fridge and coffeemaker, but no microwave. Beds were super comfortable and had charging ports in convenient locations. Also had streaming options on the TV which is always a great touch nowadays! There is no parking. You either have to park in metered parking out on the street or in one of the nearby garages which charge exorbitant fees (but that's very standard for a California city). Given the price of this hotel, they really should offer some kind of parking incentive. I think my parking came out to be almost $30 total - and we only stayed for one night! The views are really nice - you can see the capital building and a nice park. But unfortunately there were many homeless people sleeping in the park and out on the sidewalks. I was approached repeatedly when walking from the hotel to parking and to Old Town and I felt unsafe. Giving 4 stars for the parking and the noise. Otherwise was a great stay!
