I think this ice cream shop is absolutely adorable, the location is fantastic with a good amount of seating and a great view. Downtown Cave Creek is perfect for a weekend afternoon visit!
Since the weather has been warming up, I figured naturally ice cream was the way to go. The shop has a great selection of ice creams that are house made with mostly natural ingredients the old fashioned way.
I opted for the milkshake myself and really had my heart on strawberry, which I added caramel sauce, whipped cream and graham crumbs on it. The graham crumbs didn't really do much, I'm not even sure the caramel sauce was worth a $1 more. Truthfully speaking the strawberry flavor was non-existent and would not be able to guess what it was blind folded. The milkshake was a little thin by my standards, and perhaps the strawberry was even more washed out due to the ratio of ice cream to/milk. The result of the creation unfortunately didn't really hit the spot. A similar Starbucks offering is $6 as opposed to the $9 mark up here. Yes, I know Starbucks isn't homemade but it does actually "taste" like strawberries at least. I really would rather support a homemade "mom and pop" place.
The second item we ordered was a waffle bowl with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. The downside about the waffle bowl is you get a paper to hold it, I was hoping for something a little more sturdy.
After ordering my two items, I was given the waffle bowl immediately, which I tried to balance while getting out my credit card to pay as there was no good spot to put it down.
After giving my credit card I was asked if I was part of their loyalty program, and I said no and asked if I could sign up. The woman was in such a rush to ring me up she had already swiped my card. I never did find out what the loyalty program was.
Also, they keep the spoons in a really awkward place, I was stuck waiting for the cashier to ring in the next family to grab a spoon.
It was another several minutes before the milkshake was ready, it was a little awkward getting the one item well before the other. I really just didn't want to stand and watch it melt as the waffle bowl wasn't for me.
For two items we spent just under $17. I definitely feel prices are marked up because they are located a cute little town and a great spot.
I'd check out the place if you happen to be here or are entertaining visitors, but I'd definitely not go out of my way as a destination ice cream shop.
Maybe a different flavor might have provided a different milkshake experience, but usually strawberry is a hit with me.
