10 Exceptional Bars and Restaurants for Live Music in Phoenix

"Located in the historical Clarendon Hotel, this light, airy, Latin-influenced restaurant featuring Cubano sliders, short rib enchiladas, pernil asado, peasant paella, and green chile cornbread, also dishes out live music every night of the week. Depending on the weather, local musicians such as Jimmy Pines and Washboard Jere (stripped down hillbilly blues) and Adam Smith (music with a James Taylor vibe) or the Rita Rose Band (vintage country, country swing and old-time) play indoors or out on the cozy covered patio." - Nikki Buchanan

We stayed one night. Had to change rooms because the ac wasn’t cooling at all. The rooms felt dark and like people go there to use. I wouldn’t bring my family here if I had kids. We left as early as possible and didn’t even shower there. The people how work there were nice and accommodated our request to move rooms. So I was grateful for that. But there loud blaring music outside the whole place. Not peaceful at all. The parking lot was not accessible easily from the hotel, you have to go all the way around to the front entrance. It’s also open and doesn’t seem too secure. I definitely would not rebook this place. Pay a little more and go somewhere else. 6 am there were odd people just handing out in the lobby going in and out from the parking lot. This place is not it.

Google
The people. That work there are really wonderful but the place has a lot of what you would call deferred maintenance.I had the poll to myself. It's absolutely beautiful but there's a lot of maintenance needed inside of the rooms and at the facility in general. It felt a little like a ghost town.Because very, very few people were there and it was just a little sad because I was expecting there to be a restaurant and a spa.And there was neither. The bed was very comfortable. But because of the continuous music at the pool, starting at 8:30 AM until 10 PM it was a little vexatious.Quite honestly to me.I liked a little more quiet.Actually a lot more qubut again the pool is really lovely and I appreciate it.

Very hip/kitsch hotel with great service and an awesome restaurant and bar. Big heated pool and huge hot tub. I had a large room with king size bed and a small living room at the entry. The only thing I didn't like was how everything echoed in the room. Hardwood floors and brick walls made everything seem much louder. If they added some carpeting or rugs and fabric art to dampen the sound, the rooms would be perfect. Oh, and another thing I didn't really care for was the tiny bathroom with the sink and vanity outside of the bathroom. I must say that the staff is really awesome and helpful. I did enjoy my stay and plan to be back.

Easily my new favorite. The pool is actually heated! 75 degree water on a 100 degree day is like a small taste of Heaven! It’s like an oasis inside with vines along one of the walls next to the cabanas, the other wall is glass with water running down so it looks like a waterfall wall!! It’s beautiful. The rooms are decorated differently, there’s a small free breakfast with coffee, muffins and oatmeal. A rooftop lounge which I didn’t get to see but the string lights along the top gave the whole place this beautiful glow. Absolutely best hotel I may have ever been to. The customer service was excellent as well 👍

Google
had high hopes for this hotel based on the reviews it being classified as a four star hotel. The front desk clerk was super friendly and helpful, but immediately told us the restaurant was closed for the summer. The lobby smelled dirty and the floors were sticky. The elevator’s mural was peeling and there was something spilled on the floor. The carpet in the breezeway was pulling up and paint chipped from the exterior wall as well. The pool was extremely dirty to the point that we thought it could have chips in the plaster, but upon looking further, it was dirt and belongings. When we got to our room, the door didn’t appear to be completely shut and we could barely open it. It appeared to have been kicked in at one time. The odor in the room was so bad. It smelled like filth covered up in cleaner. The floors were sticky and the bed and couch had dirt and debris on it. There were pubic hairs on the bathtub ledge and the bed platform. We ended up checking right back out and went to another hotel down the street.

Google
This place has gone downhill significantly since I last visited. Their website is completely out of date, and no one will respond to your email inquiry if you send one. To clarify for others: there is no restaurant, spa, or rooftop bar whatsoever. The room was clean enough, but everything else was dim and musty. It felt no different than staying in a Motel 6, and I wouldn't have booked the room in the first place had I had this information. Go elsewhere.

My partner and I needed to book a hotel close to the Pheonix airport due to an early flight I had back to Michigan the next day following my birthday weekend. ||The staff is dope, friendly in a way that doesn’t come off as too “staff like” if you know what I mean. |I don’t know if I’m the only one but I appreciate a relaxed kindness. ||The price was reasonable, booking the room over the phone was smooth and painless. The gentleman I spoke to was polite and competent. ||Given the overall experience we had during our short stay I would say that the price we paid for king bed room was more than fair and I would go as far to say quite a good deal compared to the rest of the hotels in the area.|| We are really glad we stayed here.||It seemed like there was a cute little coffee shop/cafe to the right of the lobby but we didn’t go in there. There must have been a separate restaurant somewhere else because I overheard a man go out of his way to compliment the chef as we were checking in. I looked at the menu that was displayed in the elevator and the choices looked appetizing. ||The staff were extremely polite, warm, and made us feel very welcome. |The lobby and all areas leading to our room were exceptionally clean and had a particularly pleasant smell. |Our room was also very clean and comfortable. The sheets were very fresh and clean.||I do wish there was a microwave in there because we had some leftovers that would have been better heated up but that’s not a big deal. ||We didn’t have a chance to visit the pool and hot tub downstairs since we were there to sleep and catch a flight but if not for the nature of our stay serving a purpose we would have loved to take a swim and a soak. There were some cool colored lights giving the area a fun vibe, some folks down there having some fun, a section with cabana style lounge beds, and the hot tub was gigantic.

Stay clear from The Clarendon! There's thousands of hotels in Phoenix you need no headache. I had a big headache and a lesson of don't even try it just by using the restaurant so I can't even imagine the full experience. Yikesssssssss! They have a restaurant ran by NO ONE. No joke! If you called the hotel no one knows who runs the restaurant. They say someone will call back but it's been 3 weeks for me now. I even contacted the Instagram manager account person and not even her could find someone in charge of the restaurant..... And all that would be ok until that fateful day when I decided to ask for a manager of the hotel. I got the rudesssst, most confrontational person. What a joke. He answers the phone almost choosing to be rude. It tells you he truly had no one to respond to. To answer that way was unnecessary. And they say they are in the hospitality & experience business. I think they should move to the WWF or something where his gifts would be appreciated. I did not appreciate the experience I had in that call. And to make it worse he said someone from the restaurant dpt would call me but no one did. So I'm telling you.... There's no one here to help and assist with nothing correctly. Save the headache.

Yelp
My wife and I found ourselves in the area due to an emergency, and needed a room for the night. She looked online and found this hidden gem. Us raising kids the last 20 years we both completely forgot about 21+hotels! Our stay was short, but we would have enjoyed it more had it been longer. The spa, pool, the bands, the Smoke Room, the gym, the view from the area on the roof, all looked to be interesting. And I loved our room; it's like someone time-traveled and took only the cool art deco things to dress up the rooms! Everything was "just enough" if that makes any sense. Yes, we heard some neighbors, not to mention the smoke smell, but yeah. No biggie. Definitely worth looking into!

Yelp
This gives the vibes of a 1970's hotel. On the upside, it got the job done and the people were superbly nice. Location was close to my under-construction condo and it was a nice neighborhood. The rooms are "updated" but I wouldn't confuse that with modern - the bones are OLD! The pool area is nice and the hot tub deliciously hot! Much of what you pay for is the child free environment and the THC-friendly crowd and accommodations! Some quirks and downsides: 1.). The AC in my room worked off and on the first night. I set the temp at 76 when I left for work, and it was 64 when I came back in the afternoon. I turned it off - and when I turned it on again later it didn't work. Still wasn't working when I left the next day. That's "ok" (though stuffy) now, but would be a catastrophic failure in another month when it's blazing hot. 2.) the bar and cafe aren't directly affiliated with the hotel itself but are completely integrated into it. Prices were outlandish, even for a hotel. $13 for a small plastic cup of vodka and soda. $16 for 5 potstickers! 3.) unique to me - I was in the second floor above the cafe where music was booming into the night. I'm one of those unfortunate souls who are up at 4 AM for work - so early to bed - and it was noisy. Slept like crap on night 1 - took advantage of a gummy on night 2 and did better but not great. Even after the music stopped it was easy to hear people in the hall and doors to rooms slamming shut. It's not a resort like you'd find at other venues but the price was right and it worked. And nice staff can't be found everywhere!

Yelp
We arrived at The Clarendon expecting a one-bedroom suite that resembled the online photos, but were disappointed to find a room that looked like an old motel, lacking a closet, with dirty walls and blinds. Upon expressing our concerns at the front desk, they offered to cancel the reservation but retained the first night's rate and fees. Seeking an accommodation after a brief 20-minute stay, the manager, Candace was extremely rude and refused further communication, walking away. The associate at the desk was also unprofessional, escalating the situation by cursing and eventually asking us to leave, even calling security. This level of customer service in the hospitality industry was unprecedented. I strongly advise against booking with The Clarendon.

Yelp
Staff friendly and kind, however they do seem understaffed. I booked a non-cannabis-friendly room. After check in, I discovered a security issue and the front desk kept my things while I was away at an event with the assurance they'd attempt to fix it. Upon my return to the hotel staff stated the issue was fixed, but upon reentry into the room I discovered it was not really fixed. I didn't feel comfortable staying there due to this mechanical safety issue. They were sold out of any other rooms, the front desk was kind and cancelled and refunded my stay. I didn't spend a lot of time in the room, but it was not cozy. Felt very much like an empty room with the cheapest furniture they could find. Very worn down feeling. I heard they are in the process of remodeling the rooms, and that the cannabis rooms are already remodeled. I stayed here about 5 years ago and it wasn't perfect then either, but it was okay enough for me to consider staying again. It just felt much, much worse on this visit. The pool area looks super cute to hang in. I'd still give this another shot, but not until after the regular rooms are remodeled.

Yelp
I'm having a hard time enjoying my stay here. I didn't get the room I reserved (a king). Not too big a deal but still...I request something for a reason. Don't offer it if you don't have it. Check in was rather seamless. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. and the room was ok. The halls reek of pot but since they advertise in the elevator they are walking distance from a dispensary, I'm not really surprised. They have a roof top lounge and given the weather was nice I went up to check it out. A musician was playing and the bartender poured a good drink. The night was perfect...at least until you get back to your room and want to relax. All you can hear is the music. It's 8pm and I have another 4 hours of this **** before I get silence. I wanted to work on my novel and get in some creative time - that's blown thanks to the hippie vibe blowing through the windows. I won't stay here again. Surely won't recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to get high walking down the hallway. EDIT: Management reached out which I do appreciate but at 10pm I'm not interested in changing rooms. That's on me - I should have said something right after checking in but I was tired and starving. Also the music ended at 9pm which I also appreciated. I went back and looked at the hotel ad and nowhere does it mention the cannabis-friendly environment. In fact, it says it's a smoke free environment. I'm not opposed to pot. Feel free to imbibe all you want. But I don't want to. It's almost 7am. I'll be leaving as soon as I can pack. The purpose of my night here was to get some writing done and that didn't happen sadly.

Yelp
This place prides itself for being an adult only, over 21 cannabis boutique hotel. And you are paying for that experience. Why do you need a hotel room that offers you only one chair, an iron with no ironing board, only two hangers for clothes so you and your friend could share? Some people want a telephone and drawers,or a fridge and an ice bucket, but why? This amazing boutique hotel has an unforgettable room! The concrete wall, and laminate flooring exudes boutique. The sound from the air conditioner and outside activities, let's you know that your money is worth it here when you choose to stay with them. Our bathroom is supplied with boutique dove products. The shower curtain is hung low, so that it drapes in the tub for you to enjoy. We love the marks left on the shower walls, and imagine what fun times were had here. Definitely check out the wires under the desk in your room, it is a piece of art that rivals the ones displayed on the walls. The Clarendon boutique hotel deserves to be a staple for those who seek a hotel room that is rented out by the hour, instead of the night. Great water pressure and the hot water is supplied with little time waiting. We enjoyed the rooftop bar, two cans of beer for $14 or mixed drinks at $14 each. Bottle water is $2 in the lobby. We did locate a Safeway supermarket nearby and purchased our necessities and libations. Thank you Clarendon for this unforgettable experience in your boutique hotel. We are so glad that we got to stay here and share our incredible memories with friends.

Yelp
I really enjoyed staying at The Clarendon Hotel during my stay in Central Arizona. This was a last minute booking due to some unforeseen circumstances, so I am extremely happy that I was able to find a great deal for my stay. Since a lot of things changed on my trip, so I no longer had plans and nowhere to go, and The Clarendon Hotel let me check-in a little earlier than they had originally specified. The hotel prides itself as cannabis-friendly, but the only place I understood you can smoke it, were in the specified lounge and outside. Lot's of parking, and it's included with your stay. I also felt like this area was safe and well lit. My only thing was that my friends ALL needed to be taken to the front desk to get signed in. There is only one way into the hotel. I was told that there are new owners for this hotel, and they are a little more stricter than the previous ones. Staff was generally really nice. I did notice a security on the premise as well. Rooms could use a slight freshening up, but honestly I just needed a place to sleep and shower that this was the last thing I really cared for. There are no phones in the rooms, which could be an inconvenience for some. They have texting service that you can reply to, but I never really used this. I went directly to the front desk for my 2 questions. Lastly, I was told there would be a ~$16 per day "destination fee". Not sure if this implemented to all guests.

Yelp
Overdue review from the last trip. We picked this hotel because it's quite close to Hubby's niece. The hotel is nice and pretty from the outside. The front desk is small, and there's no specific lobby area where guests can rest in the lobby. If they need rest, they have to go straight to the room. However, they can relax in the lounge area where the restaurant is, but the lounge is loud at night due to live music. The room is alright because they use Dr. Meyer's hand soap. The body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were good products, although I wasn't sure what brand they used for these. My skin can't handle certain products with chemicals, so these are good. The body towels are smaller than regular towels. The air conditioner or heater is ok, but I prefer a quieter one. The breakfast burrito was amazing. It was a mini-size burrito, but the way they prepared it was one of the best. I couldn't believe that I could have the best burrito here. They give out burritos at the front desk. The front desk staffers are helpful and friendly. Beautiful pool!

Yelp
I have stayed at The Clarendon a few times about 15 years ago and I was excited to go back and show my husband how fun this place is. The pool and hot tub were a great as I remembered, unfortunately we were going so we could enjoy the rooftop bar which was unoccupied. There were lights strung up, patio furniture pushed all the way to the back, and an empty bar. Very disappointed that this was not clearly stated on the website when booking, we would have waited until it was open to stay for the night. The building is older but full of character and color, the bed was pretty comfortable and the bathroom was nice. There are no curtains in the room so it was very bright as soon as the sun started to come up. I wouldn't say don't go and see it for yourself because it is a lovely place but be aware there may not be as many fun amenities as it states.

Yelp
Reasonable rates. Free parking. Free wi-fi. Pool is clean and great hours. I give the Staff 5 starts was very friendly and informative. Communication was via text and they kept us well informed about weather conditions. ℹℹ Where do I start about the rooms look nothing like the photos not as advertised. Rooms are very old and outdated. Definitely needs to be maintained. Tiny fridge had a crack so it was leaking. The room smelled like mold or a damp smell it was not fresh. Carpet felt sticky and damp too. There is no bathroom counter space however there is a medicine cabinet which could be used as space for toiletries. No closet more of a mud room style cubby to hang clothes. Air conditioning was old not sure how often they change the filter.

Yelp
Came to Phoenix from Tucson to stay a couple nights while we saw a concert downtown. For $257/night, this is what we got. Soft comfy bed, flooring seemed new, felt clean in the main room. Other items of note: the door to the room was not sealed so light shone through, the bathroom door would not latch shut (we shoved a towel under the door to keep it closed), bathroom was mostly clean (long hair found in shower, botched paint job, sink basin was loose on its base, bath faucet not fully installed). No alarm clock, tissues, or USB ports for cell phone charging - bring a plugged one. Hotel was empty for the most part. We didn't participate in the 420 activities but they had events each night - seemed like it would be fun. Staff were kind and friendly. Homeless camp up the road but they were harmless. Almost there/10, probably wouldn't stay again, especially at that price, but it's a good place to just crash for the night if you can get it for a cheap price.

Yelp
The photos from the website are not accurate. The hotel and surrounding area are blighted and not safe. There is an abundance of homeless and debris in the immediate and surrounding area. The parking is open and not secure. The common areas and room wreaked of marijuana. The room itself was deplorable. Intentionally, the hotel phone is never answered and puts you into a generic voice in-box. Melinda who worked the front desk was extremely professional and understandable. She was the one bright spot with my experience. Thank you Melinda for your assistance as it's greatly appreciated.

Yelp
The Clarendon Hotel looks nothing like the pictures online. Walked into the lobby and it reeked of weed. I think a motel might have been a little nicer than this hotel. The shower tub looked like it had mold on it and the tile was not white. Definitely do not recommend, unless you're okay with feeling uncomfortable.

Yelp
Pros: The pre check in made everything more effortless and quick. The staff was quick to check me in and super friendly. The lobby did not smell like cannabis! The pool appeared cleaned and my room smelt like cleaning supplies. The bed and pillows are so comfortable I had no trouble falling asleep. The shower had great water pressure and the water was hot!! Cons: The standard room (non cannabis room) appeared nice, however, on further inspection, I noticed water stains on the walls and a crack with badly applied plaster. The AC is loud and sometimes it would squeak. My room did not have a dead bolt so it was missing that extra sense of security. The room was dark, I only had two lamps that worked. The light between the room and the bathroom needed a lightbulb change as it would not turn on. If you wanted snacks or water you would have to go to the lobby. I had a chair but no desk. Lastly, I was missing the amenities such as a microwave or in room coffee pot. Fee transparency: 22.50 destination fee per day. 10 dollars to park (free if you park on the street!)

Michael T.

Yelp
Room was "okay," but needed work. Loose door handles, dusty vent fan in the bathroom, worn carpets. Overall it was a nice place to stay the week for a work trip, but it left a few things to be desired. There was no wired internet connection in the room, only non-secured guest WiFi which was "okay" and didn't have the best speed or coverage. Friday night I tried to go to the rooftop bar that a lot of people raved about, but it was closed to hotel guests in favor of a private party--that's sucky. After a long week traveling for work it would've been nice to enjoy the amenities that I paid for, and that I chose the hotel for when booking the room.

Yelp
I can't imagine anybody is monitoring what people are saying about this hotel online since there's really nothing that can be done to remedy the complaints they must be receiving on a moment-by-moment basis. It needs to be turned into a hole in the ground...a lake...for ducks. Don't take my word for it. Have a look at the pictures. This hotel looks like it was built in the 70s and never upgraded. They just piecemealed an exterior on it and a slapped on some bright colors to distract from the nastiness. Literally everything is filthy. I live and work in Palm Springs in the hospitality industry, so my standards are right where they should be when it comes to quality. Frankly, I was absolutely shocked at this experience. I can't believe this place is taking people's hard-earned money, $300 in my case. This hotel has four stars on hotels.com. It's a downright sin to call this place four stars. Who's lying here, the hotel or hotels.com? Even though I had checked in online, uploading both my drivers license and my credit card, I was asked for them again at check-in. Wah wah. This place is broken in every way that a hotel can be broken. I've stayed in Motel 6's that were more well appointed. As you head to your room, the janky, stinky elevator is an apt preview of what's to come. My carpet appeared to have been vomited on recently, and then cleaned, for the 10,000th time. The pillows were awful. My bed had three pillows: one of them was a hard, square, foam pillow, and the other two were the type of "fluffy" pillow that's so underfilled that the second you lay on it, the volume disappears. All three pillows were different. It smelled so strong of cleaning chemicals in the room that I was anxious about waking up with swollen eyes or some other allergy symptoms. Luckily, I did not. UNluckily, the windows did not open. There are two windows in this "suite" and neither of them opened. There were no closet doors on the closet. I asked for an extra duvet, and I got one, but it had a big yellow stain on it. The hot water didn't work. The hot water, people. I've thrown away couches in better condition than the one in my suite, which looks like it belongs to cats and fat people. Oh, when I went down to complain, I was asked "do you like your upgraded suite"? They claimed to have already upgraded us to a suite. I was absolutely dumbfounded and ended up realizing the futility of saying anything at all. However, I did make my feelings clear to the clerk at check out, and he refunded the parking fee. The clerk claimed they only receive one or two complaints a week. Ironically, as I was reporting that there had been no hot water, another guest exiting the hotel raised his hand and chimed in that his hot water also hadn't worked. The inside walls are covered in the kind of streaked stucco you see in your grandmothers basement, the kind that is always stained with 25 years of heavy smoking. The ceilings are low and everything is dark. The view is of the parking lot and what might as well be a trash dump directly below the hotel. In the morning, I went down to avail myself of their "free breakfast" and all I found was black coffee. Later, they brought creamer. The lids they had for the coffee cups didn't fit the coffee cups. There was no sight of breakfast prior to my check out at 11 AM. Do not pay the extra 50 bucks for an upgraded suite and "access to the lounge." I was told the "lounge" is in the restaurant, accessible by anyone. I would advise you to stay literally anywhere else unless you enjoy beating yourself up for crappy decisions.

Matthew W.

Yelp
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. "The Clarendon Hotel & Spa " however I had no access to the spa during my stay. I came down to use the hot tub to find if freezing cold. The staff customer service was very underwhelming in my opinion. I was rarely greeted upon walking into the lobby. The overall ambiance of the outdoor pool and rooftop area was very pleasant, however there were more negatives in my stay than positives.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Pros: Check in and out were super easy. Room was clean and spacious. Bar and restaurant were awesome, bartender was super friendly. Cons: no hot water in shower whole time, everything in the room was so loud, toilet, shower, fridge. The room constantly smelled like weed. Everything in the room was cheap and falling apart.

Yelp
Beautiful place with lots of colors, but make sure you get a cannabis smoking room if you partake. The smoking lounge is extra if you don't have a smoking room. Also you can't smoke everywhere. The hotel staff is awesome and will accommodate your needs.

Alicia R.

Yelp
Concept is super cute but the customer service and the rooms need work! I went with a few friends for a weekend and we stayed in a queen suite. Only on small lamp for light in living room. We couldn't figure out how to turn on the a/c, found out it was one remote for both of the ceiling units, there is no phone in the room to call the desk have to use your own mobile device. Even before arriving, calling the hotel was a toss up if you would actually get someone on the line. Eventually got a hold of the desk and once we turned on the units DUST flew out of them when turned on. The water in the showers was only luke warm, by the morning our water was completely cold no warmth at all. I went to the desk told them, got a reply of "it's around check out time, so many people are using it at this time there isn't hot water." Isn't check out time the most important time to have hot water so people can get ready to depart?!? She wrote my room number on her HAND! The whole time we were there our allergies were bad, then we noticed the possible cause! Not only was there dust in the A/C the ceiling vent didn't have an air filter in it BUT IT WAS STUFFED WITH A TOWEL INSTEAD! Once the charge for the room went through I was charged more than my reservation. I booked through hotels.com. My reservation with them said everything was included in the price when I called the hotel, they could not give me an answer of why it was more! The person I spoke to was rude about it I again expressed how unsatisfied I was with the room to be charged more than I was quoted is unacceptable. She asked me if I told anybody about these problems because there was nothing in my file. That's when I let her know when I did tell someone my room number was written on her hand probably why it wasn't in my "file "!!!! No answer was given. I asked to speak to a manager she would not connect me to a manager only to tell me that I would be given a call back. Never received a phone call from any manager at any time. Nor have I been connected to one when I call. I wouldn't recommend this hotel whatsoever. Poor customer service, mediocre rooms and a high price tag. For almost $700 for a weekend I would expect to have hot water and a clean room!!!!! I want an explanation of the extra charge!!! Did I purchase an employees lunch that day! Unacceptable! Hotel 21 and up I expect so much more!

Yelp
The hotel is great..accommodating even. The bar? I don't know if it's old trans folk like myself or my Butch Marine friend, but we were not welcome. This was our 3rd stay here and we've always been to busy to stop in for margaritas until tonight. The way we were seemingly, purposefully, ignored struck us both.. As many trips are planned to phoenix over the coming months...not sure if we'll be coming back here. 3.8 stars for the hotel.. 0 for the bar.. afraid to even think of the restaurant

Yelp
This was a great hotel; my sister and needed a hotel that was close to the hospital and booked a double suite. Hotel staff was very nice and the room was clean. The bathroom had a rainfall shower, and the suite was comprised of two rooms with TVs, AC, and a mini-fridge. My favorite part about this stay was the huge hot tub, easily 20 people could fit in this hot tub without touching, but we had it to ourselves. The restaurant was under construction, so no comment about that. That said, I would definitely book here again.

Yelp
I've waited a month to write this review after our stay. I wanted some of my frustration to mellow out. I was very upset with the room and the level of cleanliness was unacceptable. That being said the front desk staff that I talked to was very kind and apologetic. They did move us to a nicer room in a different building that was more updated and remodeled. I had no idea how I was going to stay in the original room for a week and contemplated going to get cleaning supplies. The pool was nice. The restaurant in the building is separately owned /operated and really outstanding. This was like staying at a motel 6 which I would never choose to do. I wont be using priceline any more as I no longer trust there star ratings.

Yelp
The room was nasty it smelled it was dirty pictures was off the wall. It was mildew on the wall loud they woke us up no hot water. The receptionist are rude and on top of that it takes eight days to get my deposit. I left early and I still didn't get a full refund. Horrible experience never again.

Yelp
We thought the decor would be fun but on arrival our door wouldn't work and they had to replace the handle unit which took about an hour. The whole place needs an update from the calcified shower fixtures to all the paint and furniture. The whole place needs an upgrade, it's just kind of sad.

Yelp
Great vibe, fun spot, and so convenient to the airport. Appreciate the recent improvements (huge jacuzzi and roof deck). Our go-to place when in town visiting family.

Yelp
Quirky hotel that was okay for the price. We stayed in a regular, not a cannabis room. It wasn't too busy when we were there. All website and printed material said no smoking except of cannabis, inside cannabis rooms. There were cigarette burns all over the hotel carpet and furniture. There were people smoking cigarettes on the landing, and there were roaches from blunts and cigarette butts in the pool area. We didn't deal with any cigarette or cannabis odors, but it may be an issue at some times or in some areas. Carpets in common areas were stained, and stairwells and rails were sticky. Pool area and cabanas were only mediocrely maintained. Furniture in room was not well maintained. There were lots of dings, scratches, scrapes, missing hardware in the vanity. While everything in our room was clean, it was kind of shabby. We had a mini-king suite. I'm not sure what was different about it from a regular king room . There was no additional seating. There was a mini refrigerator, but no microwave in room, so not a big plus. Bathroom towels were stingy, clean, but rough, and only three towels, one hand towel, and zero wash cloths. Shampoo, etc. was in pumps attached to shower wall at odd angle. The hotel advertises that it is full of modern and local art. That is mostly machine printed glass and and plastic wall hangings that could be found at a discount store. It is all bright colors hung on dark walls. We had to pay a "resort fee" for "unlimited snacks" which were inconveniently behind the counter and unclear what was available. We also had to pay for parking, and when the bar was busy they weren't monitoring the lot to keep space for paying guests. It was annoying to pay for these amenities. Our two biggest disappointments were lukewarm water and noise. The sink didn't heat up at all, and the shower got warm, but not hot. Rooms in the 230s hear a constant thump and music from the bar-restaurant downstairs. If it's open, you can hear it. In addition, when our neighbors were in their room, we could hear them, and they didn't seem to be excessively loud. The restaurant was so-so. There was no room service delivery. The food was packed in plastic with no real cutlery. We had to ask for extra napkins even when ordering several dishes. The salad was small for the price. The steak and mashed potatoes were good. The coke was not cold. What got this place to three stars, the massage therapists and breakfast burritos. The therapists at the spa downstairs were excellent, professional, capable. Though there was no sound proofing, we had some of best massages we've experienced. The burritos were good, better than breakfast at most hotels of this quality. The staff here was friendly until asked questions then they seemed shell-shocked, as if they may deal with constant disappointment and issues. We were disappointed with our room, but didn't dwell on it, but we overheard lots of issues and complaints on our way in and out throughout our three night stay. The hotel is in a great location, so if you're okay with mediocre quality and get a good deal, it's not bad, though it doesn't live up to its photos or what one might expect with an on-site spa.

Yelp
We struggled here but the best thing about this place is the wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. The overall vibe and material aesthetic of the place is nice but the functionality misses the mark. The AC is older and my heat sensitive partner barely slept. The blinds are too big for the main bedroom window in our room so the light hits you in the face at 530 am. I also had to clean the toilet bowl myself when we first got into the room as it was dirty- very dirty. The attention to detail is just lost here. We won't be back but as I said , the staff was wonderful.

Yelp
This is a Motel 6 disguised as a 4-star hotel. The rooms are clean, but everything is worn and torn. The supposedly cool shower head in the middle of the bathtub is a nightmare if you don't intend to wash your hair. I booked this hotel through a Priceline deal and must have missed the fact that it's a party hotel with marijuana smoke everywhere. Not to mention that they make you pay for parking when no parking spaces are available in the lot nor in the street. I wanted to swim, but didn't dare use the pool and hot tub that were filled to capacity with party animals. The only redeeming quality of this place was the Mahi-Mahi in the restaurant, but even there the music was so loud, I had to pack up my meal and eat it in my room with noise canceling headphones on. Hey, if you like to party and get wasted, this is the place for you!

Yelp
We booked the Clarendon at the last moment as we have never really stayed at a 21 and older (did not want any screaming kids running amok) and it looked like a nice boutigue'ish place. Upon arrival, Oswaldo was extremely friendly, courteous and answered all the questions we had about our stay. Where the nearest grocery store was, eateries nearby and what not. The location is in a partially residential and business part of town but with the hotel completely encapsulated, the inner part (the pool and lounge area) is completely out of site of anyone outside the hotel. The pool has an inner edge which allows for shallow sitting and dipping your legs in. The hot tub us next to the pool and is elongated. The downstairs restaurant is Mexican themed and although we did not eat there, there were many happy faces and the adjacent bar did serve espresso coffee from 9am - 9pm (that's our pick-me up). The breakfast burritos, part of our stay, were yummy and filling. Served hot with a yummy dipping sauce. Very filling. Our particular room was a bit outdated. No mirrors besides the medicine cabinet type in the bathroom; the lighting could use some work (a bit dark) and overall just needs to be updated. We did learn that the hotel should be fully updated by this time next year, so call and ask if that is a concern for you (April 2023 this review). Also, our room had a wine cooler vs. any type of refrigerator but it kept our Safeway food chilled enough. The staff were all AMAZING. Oswaldo throughout our stay; Deborah, also at the front desk; Brent the Front Desk Manager and Jodie the Asst. General Manager had to answer all our questions all weekend without a hint of "oh here they come again..." Top notch staff!!! The staff made our stay a 100% Thank you all !!!!

Yelp
You guys. Don't do it. The pictures online are great but in person you will leave feeling like you need a bath. Dirty. Musty. It felt like a motel 6 with some trendy lipstick. We booked it on a whim for a staycation and left and went to another spot. It needs some serious revamping and a serious cleaning. Super unprofessional feeling. It was a hipster hostile... a dirty one. The restaurant was good! And the massage I got was good but the actual "spa" isn't a spa. It's a few tiny rooms tightly packed. They have you wait for your service in the hotel bar. Woof.

Yelp
Paid hotel through Priceline and was charged all kinds of additional bogus charges including parking and did not have a car. They were people smoking weed all over courtyard and music was playing loudly until midnight. Not a good place to stay and crazy bogus fees. Hotel rooms are old and smell moldy.

Yelp
Avoid this place like the plague. My wife and I travelled to PHX on business, and chose this hotel based in part on its location, and because it sounded like it might be a cool place, and we figured we would have a better stay than at one of the big chains. We couldn't have been more wrong in our decision. This is an older property that seems to have undergone a partial remodel, but this place is a mess. There wasn't hot water for our entire stay. They insisted this was some new thing due to an "upgraded" hot water system that would be fixed shortly, but over five days they didn't address it. One of the owners outright lied to me about the situation. The rooms are very dated, and the carpet is stained. Broken blinds, ripped shades, falling down shower rods, peeling paint, and scratched furniture round out the bad decor. We were moved out of our first room because the air conditioning made a horrible squeaking sound. Our room didn't have a smoke detector, which was brought to the front desk manager's attention twice, but was never addressed. I was told pool cabanas were available for the weekend when I checked in, told they weren't available when I tried to reserve one, and then told they were available again when I spoke with a manager. Very frustrating when trying to make plans. There's NO housekeeping during your stay. We asked for basic housekeeping after three nights - just make the bed and change the towels. Two different desk clerks confirmed with us that housekeeping would visit our room, but they didn't. Some of the staff were very pleasant. Some of then were just plain rude. I tried to address my issues with the front desk manager, with whom I spoke on a couple different occasions, and I also spoke to one of the owners. They gave good lip service, but not much else. Stay someplace else.

Yelp
My friends and I went here for a pool party Friday night. It was advertised on FB, so we figured it would be a fun time. You have to get tickets to get in, but they're free. Parking was easy to find, but only because it wasn't busy. I think it'd be hard to get free parking if was busy there. But, we were able to find the place easily and get into the pool. It's not that big of a venue, but it's a sizable pool. There wasn't many people. Maybe about 15 people, if that. There's lots of seating. Lots of pool chairs and patio sofas $ tables. They have a jacuzzi, which was HOT lol it was already hot outside, so my friends and I just got inside the pool, which was lukewarm. We went to the bar, but they really didn't have much to make mixed drinks. My friend asked for a Tequila Sunrise, they had no Tequila. Then she asked for a Sex on the Beach, and the had no juice... The bartender said they didn't receive their shipment or something like that. So, they were low on supplies. He was very kind and apologetic but that was disappointing considering it was supposed to be a pool party. How you gonna have a party with no liquor?! Anyways, everyone ended up having to leave because it started lightening. So, we didn't even stay long, maybe like 40 mins. Thankfully, it was a free event lol but I mean I think the pool was nice. I would ho back if they had more free events, considering there's fancier, bigger pools out here to choose from.

Yelp
Do not stay here unless its your last resort and everything else is sold out( Especially since this hotel is not cheap!!). Room was dirty, and heavily smelled like smoke. Chipped paint on the walls, bathroom door, everything had a nick or scratch to it. We never got hot water for our shower, so that was great..... The bed headboard had dirty smears on it. The vibe was so not it.Personally I didn't feel safe that the room door only had one bottom lock with no lock swing or peep hole like other hotels. The surrounding area of the hotel did not scream safe at all too. You're basically staying at a motel 6 with fun popart decor. Do not bother. Please listen to the other 1 star reviews for this place as well!

Yelp
Overall, it was an okay experience. Front desk was kind and friendly and somewhat helpful. The room was clean but I spoke with other guests and they said no room is the same and has random furniture in each of them. Doesn't bother me that much but consistency/themes/standardization usually is what will bring people back for another stay. However, I feel like this place could use some maintenance and upkeep or something. It's a few steps away from "luxury cannabis hotel" There wasn't hot water in many rooms - confirmed with other guests. I didn't get all the toiletries set up in my room like they did, no bar of soap, toothpaste, etc. the walls are paper thin, I can hear everything from everyone's doors clicking open and closed to when someone takes a shower. Teetering on motel vibes. The "bud and breakfast" part was silly. No cannabis is actually sold on the premises and the breakfast was a burrito.... People have allergies to beans and eggs. I thought there would be options other than someone handing me rolled up foil at the front desk. No room service either ? No phones in the rooms to call front desk you have to go downstairs or look up their number to get help and they'll tell you to come downstairs to get it. Didn't see that advertised anywhere. Feel like this was more of a scam to get customers in the door. Bags of chips and soda offered at the front desk as snacks I guess that's nice. Coffee served in the lobby is from Costco/Kirkland brand. There's homeless people sleeping in the private parking lot but I had to pay for my parking pass??? Also there's someone who walks around at 10pm to kick people out of the pool area. The pool and jacuzzi had tons of dirt and sand in them. I found it weird because I didn't see dirt or sand nearby. It's a $25/month member ship fee to smoke in their "elevation lounge" even if you go for a day, you still have to pay the full $25 and then cancel your membership so I went outside lol I'm already paying $125 of unexpected hotel fees (on top of what I already felt like was an overpriced room) The closest shop - Curealeaf which is a 20 min walk or 6 min drive away.

Yelp
The service at the Clarendon is great! They are always helpful and pleasant. The rooms are fine, it's an adult party vibe and the lack of kids around makes the whole stay better. The pool and hot tub are a great way to endure the relentless heat of Phoenix. The cannabis rooms are big and it's convenient to enjoy inside the room rather than on the 250F heat of the sidewalk outside.

Yelp
Well the staff was very friendly there's your 2 stars. We got to our room and the first thing we saw was a mirrored desk with two large cracks in the top. Then I noticed the walls are painted black however was fading in some places. My son went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and the cold water from the sink did not work, only the hot. The bathroom shower and tub spout were not flush with the wall. This is not near a 4 star hotel.

Yelp
I can't possibly describe how run down the rooms are here. I also tried to get water and they refused to give me any. I've literally never had that happen before. This place is disgusting.

Yelp
It's never a bad time here. They're cannabis friendly and host a lot of events. They have a smoke lounge in the back of the restaurant. The food at the restaurant is super yummy too. You can't drink and smoke in the same area because of the law so you cant smoke where the pool is. The roof hosts a lot of events as well. Good times. I'll always be back

Yelp
Good: Outdoor amenities looked nice but I did not use them. There was a restaurant inside that looked nice. Visually appealing from the exterior and somewhat of the lobby. I was refunded my money. Bad: Definitely not a good experience by any means. The room was dingy, musty smelling, the flooring was cheap and even sticky at some places. The minisplit a/c located in the room was covered in mold, never cleaned...ever...The bathroom was basically the same, showerhead had mold around it. Paint chipping everywhere, reeked of marijuana just about anywhere that was not outside. Although, that was partially my fault by not realizing it is literally a "420 friendly motel" however, where I booked from did not mention that. The charges you pay for this hotel are laughable. I left after 30min and booked elsewhere. It is definitely not a 4-star hotel by any means. I almost feel bad for even leaving a review because I didn't stay there and was refunded but, I also would feel bad for others looking for a nice place to stay and not reviewing the hotel with pictures included.

Yelp
our room had a filthy window shade a torn lamp shade and a bathroom sink that sprayed water all over me and the floor. very very expensive for the condition of the room

Yelp
Cool hotel. Nice rooftop bar! Looks like a great party spot. Had a nice bar restraint downstairs. I came on a business night though not knowing this. Also the pool doesn't get a ton of sun being blocked by the buildings.

Yelp
This was a last minute find on Hotel Tonight. We stayed here 10 years ago and my goodness has this place changed. It was under repairs and the water was off until 6pm the day we checked in. We walked in to a smell of gingerbread scents which we believe was to mask the cannabis lingering (come to find out it's a cannabis hotel). We didn't bother showering since the tub was filthy not to mention the mold spewing from the air vents. Sorry to say this is not a "hip" hotel and the pictures on Hotel Tonight are misleading.

Yelp
Listed as a 4 star hotel. I got it as an express deal on Priceline. Unfortunately, this was far from 4 star. It feels like a remodeled super 8. The first room we were put in did not have a smoke detector, had stains on the carpet, had mold in the AC and had 1 brown towel instead of all white. It was weird. Requested a new room and they apologized saying they were supposed to have anyone in that anyway. They put us in room 2, AC didn't work and they said oh yeah no one is supposed to be I. That room either. Put us in a 3rd room. I felt like I was in a soapy 70s disco decorated romcom. Not my thing. We called some friends up and just checked out of the hotel. Never compensated or even an apology. Just letting everyone know this is not what's advertised.

Yelp
So this review I was very excited for ! I went back and fourth with the star amount ! It's a great concept for a hotel having some 420 friendly rooms . My biggest issue with this concept is the lack of proper filtration in the rooms . If you are going to offer this as a choice then the rooms that are allowed to be smoked in should be filtered way better . Not everyone staying here is looking to hit box a hotel room for 48 hours lol . Now no smoking cigarettes inside is a rule that is clearly ignored since the room we got stank of them ! There is a big difference in smells between the two ! So I would definitely like to see this hotel and concept succeed but you have to invest more in your air quality systems ! Having just a little single room filter on the floor isn't enough . Especially if your room service isn't changing filters what's the point ! The filter in ours was disgusting looked like it has never been changed ever ! For the rest of the hotel It's almost like they ran out of money and investments since it is very nice in areas but then hurting in so many others ! The pool looked disgusting as well being that I managed an Olympic sized swimming pool for over 10 years I could tell right away they needed new filters for the pool since it was so hazy ! So it seems like they treat the hotel as if it's a normal one but you can't do that if you are going to offer smoking rooms . You have to step your cleaning game up and try to update the rooms more and clean deeper !

Yelp
I stayed here a few days ago. This hotel is a DUMP! One of the most disgusting hotel rooms that I've stayed in. It was like an old, cold dirty DIY (do-it-yourself) decorated basement. And Gross! Overpriced and not worth the stay. The walls are all concrete, painted a dark gray. The room was SO dark and it only had two small lamps. The HVAC unit was so old and it was outdated. The front desk agent didn't know how to use the 1980s remote and also commented how dark my room was. He couldn't see the buttons on the remote to assist me. Took over an hour for the room temperature to change. There were scratches, holes and dents in the walls. The carpet was so disgusting that I kept my shoes on the entire, time until it was time for bed. The bathtub has stains in it. The wash cloths looked as though they were purchased from the goodwill. The closet was missing the closet door. There was a hole in the glass dresser. The shower made a REALLY high pitched noise that was damaging to the ears. The window shades were stained and dirty. Clarendon had hidden prices for parking $10 and I was forced to pay $25.00 for WIFI that I didn't even use. Who doesn't have free wifi these days??? I was made aware of the charges as I checked in and already charged. The worst thing that could've happened was allowing apartment complex communities and hotels to use filters on their pictures. The Clarendon hotel rooms are nothing like the pictures; they are heavily filtered. Take a look at the photos I captured and imagine what I was charged $$$ for this TRASH. I'm highly dissatisfied!

Yelp
I came to the Clarendon hotel to meet my friend for some drinks. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the live music. Karen was our server, she was nice but a little un knowledgeable of some things we would ask. I would come back for the entertainment and the bartender was great!

Yelp
This shabby chic hotel was disgusting. Emphasize shabby. The decor was beat up, missing paint, tattered table lamp shades, banged up furniture, the rooms were dark with no over head lighting. The entire place was worn out and not well care for. Everything had chipped, paint, dinged or parts missing. The bathroom was gross, there was black stuff in the tub. It's allergy season, and there was only three pieces of Kleenex in the tissue dispenser. The lobby was an icebox. The staff was not very friendly. Just so many things, and the hotel was not cheap. The free breakfast was a mini vegetarian breakfast burrito that was microwaved and tough. The coffee was OK but all they had was vanilla creamer and not regular half-and-half. Just so many things that could go wrong did go wrong. I strongly do not recommend going to this hotel.
