The Class

Ive been practicing with Taryn for 8+ years. The Class is a method that I come back to during periods of grief, joy, loss, frustration, and everything in between. It is so much more than just a workout class, that must be experienced in order to be understood fully. I can’t recommend The Class Enough, especially to anyone just beginning their spiritual practices or Interested in incorporating somatic movement into therapy.

Very inconsistent policies and rude front desk staff who are bad at their jobs—Cami and Lindsay. Was running a bit late and called them three times to keep them updated on my whereabouts and to make sure I could still come up. Each time I was told “okay” “okay” on the phone and then finally when I got to the studio they told me I couldn’t go into the class. Not sure why they couldn’t be consistent with our phone calls, or otherwise just have told me not to come when we spoke three times on the phone.

The Class was amazing! I went for the first time for the Kleos and Klea skin care collaboration. What a perfect blend of getting your body moving, dancing like no body’s watching, owning your inner beauty & finishing with a calming facial to quiet your mind. Taryn Toomey taught the class. Her energy was encouraging and calming at the same time. So many different peaks and meditative aspects to the class. After the work out Tammy Demos did a skin care demo leaving us worked out with a fresh face. What a way to wake up and dance your stress away! Bravo!

A really unique experience, a combination of fitness, yoga, and meditation. Appreciate the receptionist, Chika is welcoming and kind!

I can say I genuinely enjoyed this class. I really did not know what to expect. My girlfriend signed me up to go with her and I did it lol. Scott’s energy is unmatched . This class teaches you what I feel is emotional control. You go from meditative music and being mindful to dancing to Beyoncé and house music. Nice view out the windows and great instructor .

Took the Class Express for the first time today and will definitely be back. A very relaxed vibe - from the delicious scent of the studio to the friendly staff - was chill. That said, I got a challenging workout, the kind where the sweat is dripping on the mat. The class was wonderful on every level- physically, emotionally and spiritually. Can’t wait for my next class!

Without expecting it, this class was exactly what I needed! I work at a non-profit where I currently practice immigration law under Trump, representing LGBTQ survivors of violence on asylum cases and domestic violence issues. My job has never been easy, but these past two years have been particularly grueling and frustrating. I often find myself having to hold my feelings of rage inside me when I am at court or at my office. For example, sometimes I want to just scream at an immigration judge or officer because of all the unfairness but I can't and I am forced to bury my feelings. I'm left walking around feeling overwhelmed, angry, and depleted. Sometimes I feel like I have zero energy to even make myself a healthy meal, let alone take care of my body physically and spiritually through exercise and meditation (which I used to do a lot of). Besides my stressful job, I'm also dealing with other everyday struggles ranging from overcoming childhood trauma to dealing with the messed up dating scene in New York City (hello f*ck boys). I've been trying to work on myself by being in therapy, journaling, and traveling. In fact, I just came back from a 10 day solo trip to Bali, Indonesia where I tried different forms of meditation, yoga, breathwork, and healing rituals. These were all lovely experiences for me and touched me in different ways. But, while the trip was amazing in its own way, I came back to New York in search of something more permanent and sustainable--and I think I found it with The Class. I took my first class yesterday with Zöe LePage, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. I came based on the Yelp reviews and a little research (I can't believe how little reviews this place has on Yelp!) Anyway, the class combined a little bit of everything I needed--an intense cardio workout, meditation and healing affirmations--all in a beautiful and serene setting that was not stuffy and overcrowded like the usual studio in New York City. The Class is an intense cardio workout with intermittent breaks between exercises for pause, rest, and contemplation. I never had this before in a Yoga or exercise class. The intensity builds up during the course of the hour, having you push yourself and question your limits. Of course, the teacher reminds you to check in with yourself and notice the difference between pain and discomfort. She is careful to tell those who feel any pain to adjust or hold off on a move, while those feeling discomfort should question their own discomfort and work through it. I don't remember the last time I sweated so much. I don't want to make it seem like this class was a miraculous end all to all of my problems--it wasn't. This class won't impeach Trump, it won't undo what I went through as a child, and it certainly won't find me a boyfriend in New York City. But what it did to was leave me feeling like I was on the road to a more sustainable and intentional way of living. I was left feeling more confident and powerful with new tools to tackle my hurdles--tools which I learned I have within me. I'll be back for sure! Three stars for a beautiful studio, decent workout, and nice atmosphere/ fellow classmates/instructors. The workout itself is not for me. It's basically a really REALLY repetitive plyometrics routine. I understand why people scream -- it's so incredibly boring that you have to scream. It's not that the movements are that hard, because you're doing kind of watered down versions of many movements. For example, instead of squat jumps where you land in a full squat, it's kind of a little mini squat. But then you do it for what seems like forever--like the length of an entire song, which makes its harder in a way but also extraordinarily boring. The same movement over and over again. I thought hey maybe that's just the warm up and it will get more interesting. It didn't. That's the format for the whole class. In my view you could do 10-20 full burpees and get an amazing workout, or you could do 8 minutes of modified "easy" burpees and tax yourself mentally to get through the boredom more than you're actually taxing yourself physically. I guess that's appealing to some people though from a meditation standpoint or something. Like I said it's a decent workout, I broke a sweat and felt like I'd pushed myself at least a little bit by the end of my class. However, I do much better, more interesting, and more effective plyometrics routines on my own in my building's gym that I get off the internet. Not worth paying $35ish to go to "The Class". If you want a spiritual experience you're better off at other classes. If you want a tough workout with great music and instructors you're better off at other classes too.

Life changing! Everyone is lovely - not intimidating, but encouraging and the real deal! Get ready to sweat, clear the fog, and feel all the unexpected magic! Don't cheat yourself- dive in and go for it!

First of all, the studio is an absolutely gorgeous space with tons of glowing crystals and marble everywhere. You feel like you're in holistic heaven from the moment you walk in! The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the class itself is truly an experience. You. Will. SWEAT. The Class combines high intensity cardio with yoga, and to me it's like Kundalini (repetition) + Barre (butt & leg toning moves) + Soul Cycle (spiritual/motivational instructor). The one surprise for me is that we did *a lot* of burpees and jumping jacks, so please be warned if you don't do well with a lot of high impact/jumping around (I had to modify because of an old knee injury). However, everything else about the workout was great: the instructor (we had the wonderful Courtney Deri), the music, the vibe, etc. makes for a fantastic full body workout with a spiritual theme. I also loved that we were encouraged to let out sound and sighs throughout the class to release and work through any tension. It really added to the sense of community and the fact that we were all in this together, sweating our brains out! In terms of fitness level, I would def recommend this for people who are already in pretty good shape and familiar with something like HIIT or Barre (IT'S INTENSE)! Note: no showers, but they do have lockers, towels & a water fountain.

First of all, I can't believe that as I'm writing this review there are presently only 9 reviews for this place! It's unfathomable given the following this place has. I have heard from multiple people that this class is AMAZING. I was intrigued and decided to try it- I'm SO glad that I did. Upon entering, the aesthetic of the class was very clean with lots of white/neutrals colors, crystals, sage.. essentially Zen AF. From what I gathered, the class itself seems to be based on mindful movement meditations. So you'll go through an entire song doing a certain movement (I.e. burpees/squats) and the energy of the exercise will change based on the music/guidance of the instructor. My instructor's name was Emily and she was AMAZING. I was a little self conscious but she encouraged us to close our eyes and gave other feedback that really helped me get lost in the experience. Overall, the class is unlike any other workout I've ever done. It's like getting a killer workout (450calories registered on my Iwatch), therapy and church all in one. Honestly, I'm hooked. I'll definitely be back. My only criticism is that the bathrooms are small and they don't have showers. However, the workout is so good, I really don't care.

This was the most stunning, surreal experience I've ever had. I'm a social worker and value expressing your emotions and tuning into your body to fully engage and release emotions. However, I've always struggled to find a way to really tune in and find them, so that I can release. I've tried yoga, meditation, music, long walk/runs- EVERYTHING under the sun to tap in. Within the first 10 minutes of The Class by TT, tears were streaming down my face. Crying is such a foreign feeling to me and sadness is always shoved down, because who wants to chose sadness!? But damn y'all, the music, movements and vocal expression this class guides you through is so intentional and authentic. I have never had a spiritual experience through movement, but I know this morning I did. The Class will be my new church- I will attend every Sunday AM. They also have donation based community classes(!!) Please, please try it out. Go in with an open mind and heart. Fully dig into the moment and let the movement and music guide your deep rooted emotions spill out into the room! It is THE BEST.

I love the concept and I love coming here. I've had classes with Raj Barker, Courtney Deri, and of course Taryn Toomey. Each instructor has her own style, which I like. But it all comes down to the same idea. i've told people that this workout is my "therapy" because it's truly an outlet for me to recognize how I feel, delve into it, and work through it. I've cried a few times during the workout because of how cathartic it is. It's so hard to describe, but I love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone. No judgments here at all. It's a space to feel and to heal. **I do have a knee injury that requires adapting certain movements, but I let the instructors know and they are happy to give me recommendations of alternate movements, so don't let any injuries or insecurities about the workout prevent you from coming.

I love love love The Class by Taryn Toomy. I never leave this studio in a bad mood. The Class is a difficult and truly enjoyable workout-- I recommend this to all my friends! If you're in the area, definitely check it out

I was very excited to try this class on my visit to NYC. I learned about The Class because of Lululemons collaboration. I think the studio was beautiful however the mats we lay down on not as clean as I'd hoped. The workout class didn't make sense to me...I say this because I don't think i May have fully understood the purpose of weird body movements and randomly screaming out in class. The movements consisted off a ton of jumping jacks and some burpees some weird arm swaying. It seems like just repetition of the same movements, with maybe a bit of a breathing exercises, at the end of it which I could have just done at home. I would not go back again.

I took a class here with Raj Barker. Don't let her beauty fool you because she will kick your butt. I loved the yelling and the emotional release. Her verbal and physical cues made me both laugh and cry. If I could do this every day, I would. Thank you Raj!

I found out about the class through instagram and signed up for the free online trial. Like other reviewers have said, the movements are repetitive. To give you some context, I have been working out 4-5 times a week for over 10years at the gym. I've done HIIT, Tabatha, Crossfit, Circuit, weights... You name it, I've tried it. With that in mind, if you want to get toned and have glutes for days, The Class is not for you. However, if you are looking to destress, loosen muscles up and incorporate some physical activity in your life, The Class is perfect for that. It's more therapy than a workout. I think beginners will do just fine in The Class, it's not that physically demanding and requires almost to no technique. And during this quarantine, there's no better way to let go of all of your frustrations than taking The Class.

This class is worth flying into the city to attend. I'm not kidding you. It's as if yoga and HIIT had a baby in a wonderfully loud and cathartic room. Everything about this class is great. Just warning you, though: be prepared to walk funny the next day. WHAT A BOOTY WORKOUT!

Literally obsessed and addicted to this class. I've taken many classes in the city on ClassPass and no other studio even gets me close to where The Class gets me. Not only is it a very challenging work out but it is an extremely invigorating experience.

I love the class. The inspiring music and instructors make for a great and high intensity workout. I always walk out feeling great! The space is especially beautiful too with soothing colors, beautiful crystals, and a lovely bathroom with nice products.

I absolutely love this place. This is exactly what I needed to push myself out of my gym rut. The community is kind, non-judgemental, and doesn't have that uptight performative-ness a lot of boutique fitness places have. I felt so energized for days afterward, and the motivation the instructors provide is so helpful and not you-go-girl cheesy or unrelatable. I have a few old injuries and I was able to keep up for the most part (just a couple quick pauses and stretches here and there). I was really grateful that they encourage you not to work into your pain. (In the past, instructors at other fitness studios have kinda shrugged when you tell them about an injury so I love how they keep encouraging you to listen to your body.) I don't know how they do it but you feel like you can keep going, even when you feel like you don't have anything left. Thank you thank you thank you for this awesome experience.
