In-Depth Review of Prospect Hotel in the Berkshires - AFAR

"The on-site restaurant occupies the original footprint of an 1800s rooming house and incorporates its historic timber frame, pairing a sense of place with a menu that highlights Berkshire farm products. Led by chef Damian Evangelous, the kitchen focuses on refined, comfort-forward dishes such as lamb stew and mushroom stroganoff pasta, seasonal vegetable preparations with ingredients like hazelnuts, anchovies, fennel, or pea shoots, and a subtly sweet almond cake that stands out as dessert. The dining experience complements the property’s communal, outdoorsy ethos—guests can also enjoy s’mores kits for roasting over lakeside fire pits." - Danielle Hallock

Hard to say what was my favorite part about my experience at the Cliffhouse. Walking up to the restaurant the scenery was absolutely magical and serene. Would go alone for just the view alone but then add on the fantastic food and there is nothing bad about this place. Highly reccommend you will enjoy your experience no doubt

Magical and peaceful location with excellent cocktails, wine list and food! The location by the lake is so beautiful! As soon as we parked we were greeted our golf cart driver who gave us a ride to the restaurant and told us about the cabins in the property (can’t wait for a staycation!!). We were escorted by the cutest family of ducklings quacking alongside us. Restaurant is a sight to behold! We started with the buttered bread toasts that were mouthwatering and delicious (seriously never had such tasty bread!!), then beef carpaccio, asparagus, kale salad (which I sometimes find it’s like chewing hay, but this one was deliciously dressed and went down easy!!). We had the chicken breast (boneless, juicy and succulent) and the trout. Every bite perfectly cooked, fresh, so satisfying! Nancy Thomas nailed it again!!! Sooo good! The location is incredibly beautiful and look forward to a stay at the gorgeous cabins next time!

Wow. We are local business owners and have eagerly anticipated this opening . Arrived on a rainy Saturday to be greeted by friendly staff offering a ride to the restaurant in a golf cart - ensuring we would be seated dry and in good spirits . Speaking of spirits , had lovely drinks followed by equally lovely apps . One of which was correctly lauded in the recent Travel and Leisure article / if the rainbow carrots are on the menu- highly suggest them ! Nice portions . The staff were all F/B veterans and many knew us from patronizing their former restaurants- made for a welcoming connection. The mains were nicely paced to arrive after we finished starters . Terrific lamb dish and veggie sides - which the chef prepared to order (request for no garlic). Order the buttered toast - worth it ! We skipped dessert - although they looked inviting . The coffee was hot and delicious . The bill was another pleasant surprise- quite reasonable given our full meal and drinks . High ceilings , good ambience and acoustics - we sat next to a big family with lots of kids but could still enjoy a conversation . We are already looking forward to our next visit - and if we don’t make reservations , looks like we can walk in and eat at the bar . Finally, the sheepskin lined seats all surrounded beautiful views of the lake and woods . This spot is a classic in the making . Welcome to the neighborhood. Best wishes for much success . You are certainly off to a strong start !

We were so excited to try this place! The place is beautiful right on the lake-super spacious with tons of windows and light. Beautiful outdoor and indoor seating, truly lovely. We came early at 5:15 so we could get a seat-the host told us he couldn’t seat us because we didn’t have a reservation-the entire restaurant was empty minus 2 party’s outside and two people at the bar. We told him we just wanted to try a quick appetizer and wouldn’t be long and he still said we could only sit at the bar. Another server came over and said they had a special area we could sit-it was on this back side porch -not in the restaurant with blaring sun and an umbrella that’s too tall to block it. We tried sitting for a while until it was way too hot and we couldn’t even see it was so bright so we went back in and asked the host if we could sit at the bar instead unless there was a table (whole place still completely empty) and he said no just the bar. The bartender was frantic trying to get drinks done and seemed that one bartender wasn’t enough even tho the night hadn’t even begun-we had to wait to be served by staff walking by and the place we sat was never cleared or cleaned. The steak tartare was yummy and the fish croquettes as well-we also got the simple local greens salad but it was all rotten lettuce so we had to send it back which we never do. Also the portions were really small. When we got up to leave the host asked us if we two for dinner (didn’t remember us at all even tho we were 1 of 4 party’s there and had had 3 interactions). All in all the two food items were good-the place was beautiful -would have been awesome to be seated at one of the dozen open tables inside or out-and for all the staff walking around the service wasn’t great. We’ll have to try again and def make reservations so we can actually sit.

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to dine at the Cliff House together with some very special people and I have to say: It was unforgettable. such a lovely, cinematic atmosphere sitting by the light flooded waterfront which made me wonder: when am I gonna shoot a movie here? the dishes, tapas, drinks? sin palabras. Speechless. thinking about the beautiful scandi breakfast while waving to some early birds on the stand up board on the water makes me miss this place so much! I cannot wait to come back, truly a very special experience. superb professional and sweet staff especially the barista boy. Thank you so much for having me. Keep on rocking 🌪️🦋

Every table has a view of Prospect Lake, a beautiful and peaceful setting rivaled only by the perfection of every dish we had, and we sampled many. Each dish was unique and sublime - from a beets, grapes and goat cheese medley to a creamy kale salad to homemade hummus with asparagus and peas to start, to main courses of the most flavorful chicken and trout with thoughtfully selected accompaniments - our party only wished we had room to taste everything else! The weight staff was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Our only minor complaint ended up being a very animated table near us, the volume from which had no place to be absorbed by the beautiful solid wood and glass all around. And while it is lovely and convenient to be driven back and forth from the parking area to the restaurant in a golf cart, I recommend a leisurely walk back to your car after your meal rather than be bounced around on a full stomach! Such a special meal deserves to be gently savored. Make your reservation ASAP!

The restaurant and bar space have fully captured all of the amazing elements that make the Berkshires so unique. The lake setting and the design of the space are truly beautiful. The service was terrific and the food was fresh and delicious. We'll be back!

Yelp
My Husband and I and two of our Good Friends went to dinner there a couple of weeks ago - and My Goodness, was I impressed - Food and service was incredible - The setting was perfect - we sat on the porch with the lake right below us - We then tried the Klocke Estate - Setting- beautiful - service was great - but I have to say The Cliff House beat it when it came to the Food - Can't wait to goi back !! Five Star Restaurant all the way.

Yelp
I am a total restaurant snob. Have spent most of my life working in high end restaurants. I'm never happy. I always feel like people forgot about the "experience " of an amazing dinner out. This restaurant gets it. Service was always there,( how many places can say that?) . Attentive. The atmosphere! Wow. Almost thought I was not in this country! ( Liked that thought). The food(my background is cooking, hence the reason I'm a snob), was wonderful. I can not wait to go back. They get it. Good for them.

Yelp
Visually lovely. Really friendly staff greets u at car park. Things are well thought out for guests. Transport, layout, activities. Having had dinner twice since they opened, I thought I'd give my thoughts...the restaurant is well done, fits the ambiance of the grounds and is lovely. There is, however, no AC and we were there on a summer early evening, so it was painfully hot. Views are lovely, staff attentive and so very nice. I had the best martini I've had in a while. Where they lost us was the food...very limited selection on the menu, so u expect the choices to be stellar. They aren't. My chicken was a bit dry and just ok. Others in my party were satisfied, not blown away. I want to mention starters. Great opportunity here. Horrible nuts, minuscule servings. Yes these are appetizers; but, these were more like Amuse bouche. Tartare was excellent, but again, not a $30. Portion . A little stingy. I still will return because I love the ambiance. I'm rooting for the food!
