"In 2001, hotelier Ian Schrager tapped French designer Philippe Starck to reconceptualize The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel’s wildly modern interiors. A complete contrast to the building’s historic facade, the lobby is dark, edgy and filled with a quirky smattering of cool furniture—among them chairs by Ray and Charles Eames, a coffee table by Salvador Dali, and a surreal stool by Renee Marguerite. Upstairs, splashes of lavender brighten more neutral rooms, which feature wheelbarrow-shaped chairs and sleigh beds designed by Starck. Merino wool blankets are primed to battle foggy nights, while MALIN+GOETZ bath products soothe well-traveled skin with natural ingredients and science. Downstairs in the Redwood Room, a see-and-be-seen crowd nurses drinks. The swanky lounge sports sleek backlit shelves, its original redwood paneling, and a bar supposedly crafted from a single redwood tree. Though The Clift sits just up the street from Union Square, it feels far away from the tourists."

The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival?Though the Clift has been around for nearly a century, it has a swanky vibe. The lobby has clean lines, designed lighting, and striking furniture, including a Salvador Dalí coffee table, Eames chairs, and a surreal stool by Robert Matta. One oversized Philippe Starck chair—so tall you might need a boost to climb in—is a frequent Instagram subject. The lobby oozes cool. What’s the crowd like? It's well-heeled crew, but less businessmen in suits than smartly dressed people in fancy jeans and boots. Directly off the lobby is the Redwood Room, so named because, as legend has it, the floor-to-ceiling wood paneling came from a single redwood tree. The room is anchored by a massive, back-lit, etched glass bar, and guests tipple drinks from low-slung couches and in wing back chairs. It feels like something out of a period movie, save for the plasma screens cycling through digital art. Thursday through Friday, DJs spin in the Redwood room, and the crowd is more 20s and 30s. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.A standard king room has Philippe Starck-designed English sycamore custom king sleigh beds and chairs, 300-count linens, and an entertainment center. The color scheme is strictly neutral. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?These rooms also come with down duvets and merino wool throws. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Clift's mini bar offers up a nice variety of snacks, from beef jerky ($11), cashews ($11), gummy bears ($7), and pretzels ($6). Forgetful travelers can also pick up a charging kit ($25) or a razor kit ($20). Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Bathroom products are by Malin + Goetz. Bathrooms feature tubs and tiled showers—but some guests find them small, and out of date. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? All guests pay a $28 per day facility fee that includes high-speed internet access, $10 credits for food and drink each day, and coffee and tea in the lobby. Room service: Worth it?Burgers and pizza are on the menu, alongside grilled octopus salad, steak frites, and roasted baby heirloom carrots. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The Clift keeps its own bees on its rooftop, and uses the honey in its kitchen and at the bar. It also has bikes that its guests are welcome to borrow. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The Redwood Room is genuinely beautiful. Bottom line: worth it, and why? Some guests complain that room decor is dated and could use a refresh." - Elise Craig

4 out of 5|This is definitely an excellent four star boutique hotel with exemplary service and decent amenities. There are special benefits for AMEX Platinum card holders that I did take advantage of, such as upgraded room and even further upgrades at 50% off. ||Our Junior Suite fit just well for 3 days although I am not sure how the regular room sizes would feel. If you're just sleeping here, it should not be too bad. The rooms themselves are very clean, and styled very nicely.||There is only one restaurant bar (The Redwood Room) and a coffee/breakfast place (closes at 11 AM on weekdays and 12 on weekends). The Redwood Room is styled to be high end with high ceilings dim lights and very cool bar light refraction. For the most part, it is severely overpriced. Although truth be told, drinks were amazing but at $20 a drink and over, that's rooftop bar prices, not dimly lit ambience.||The lobby is much smaller than the promotional videos and ads for this hotel make it look. We didn't book it to hang out in the lobby but the photos almost made us want to! The reality was different as we realized this is a smaller boutique hotel which has its pluses, namely in exemplary service.||The real reason it's a 4 and not a 5 - Location. Yes, it's close to everything. It's literally. a block away from one of the City's worst neighborhoods, The Tenderloin. So be aware, the area can be a little rough around the edges. If you follow the instructions of the door man and always make a right when you walk out the doors, you will be just fine. Don't go left.

1. Upon checkout, we were hit with a hidden “destination fee” of $40 per night—previously known as a “resort fee.” This charge used to be $28 per night, but has now increased to $40. For a four-night stay, that added an unexpected $160 to our bill. I had assumed it was a government tax, but in reality, it was a vague hotel-imposed “destination fee” that was never clearly disclosed. 2. This “destination fee” was not mentioned at check-in, nor were we told what it entailed. Only at checkout, after I Googled it, did I learn it included a $10 daily food and beverage credit. No one informed us of this benefit, so we never used it. By the time we found out, our airport transfer had already arrived. The receptionist offered no refund or alternative. My wife and I both work in hospitality, and this lack of transparency felt deceptive. We’ve never encountered a “resort fee” or “destination fee” tacked on in such a brazen way, without proper explanation. 3. At check-in, we were placed on the 17th floor next to an extremely loud service elevator. After a 25-hour journey from Asia, we had to request a new room, repack all our 6 bags, and carry them down stairs ourselves—no help was offered. Again, not the kind of service one expects from a hotel in this price range. 4. The area around the hotel was filled with homeless individuals, many clearly under the influence. We didn’t feel safe walking through the neighborhood with our young child. Some homeless person was being handed a warm drink, which may have encouraged them to stay near the property. Meanwhile, I was charged $7 for a latte—even though I unknowingly had a $40 food and beverage credit buried in the “destination fee” charged at checkout. 5. Apart from that, food in the area was overpriced, and although the room seemed well priced at first, the hidden fees changed that perception. Union Square was underwhelming and felt dull. If we return to San Francisco, we’ll be staying near the Wharf or closer to Golden Gate Park—much more vibrant and tourist-friendly areas. To the management and owner: you can do better!!! To guests: be careful, read reviews. Many guests have been surprised by the hidden fee.

Booked through a work website and the room type we chose wasn’t available when we got to the hotel so had to choose a different room and were charged extra fees on top of an already paid price. Should’ve checked the fine print. Room service also seems to stop early so we were left with few food choices within walking distance. Otherwise the accommodations were comfortable and clean and furnishings were modern and well kept.

I've stayed here twice, and both times were pleasant. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. I prefer a room on the 8th floor or above to mitigate street noise. Convenient charging ports. One room had a chair, with ottoman and the other had a lounge. In room safe and mini fridge. The staff are friendly, though maid service was a bit odd because they would knock on the door before 9am. On my second stay, I didn't get bottled water for the coffee maker, and they never brought it over my 4 nights there. When I used a glass, they took it the next day, but didn't replace it. Neither issue was a big deal, but I'll be sure to ask for water next time.

I had such a pleasant experience and the staff was a delight, everyone was amazing and the room was very clean and comfortable. Easy to walk to all near by places and close to public transportation. I will be staying here again. The bar was a major plus.

I celebrated my wedding reception at the Clift Royal Sonesta in October 2024, specifically in the stunning suite on the 14th floor. My wedding party and I enjoyed a five-day stay filled with festivities, and our experience was nothing short of extraordinary. We collaborated closely with Nevzat, the hotel’s director of catering and services, who was incredibly accommodating despite welcoming a new baby at the same time. As first-time visitors from Florida, we had numerous questions, all of which Nevzat answered with patience and enthusiasm. The hotel staff treated us like royalty, making us feel special throughout our stay. The suite was breathtaking, and the overall beauty of the hotel added to the magic of our day. During the reception, the staff was exceptionally attentive; the bartender ensured that drinks were always available, and the appetizers during cocktail hour were served promptly, leaving no guest with an empty hand. Our favorites were the crab cakes and empanadas. The three-course lunch was also served efficiently, much to our guests' delight. We couldn't be more satisfied with our experience at the Clift Royal Sonesta and eagerly anticipate our next visit.

Nice hotel, good room, clean and nicely decorated. Good service and good value. Only downside was the restaurant for breakfast was very busy and I had to wait for breakfast. But it’s a minor thing, I would stay here again.

Google
This hotel is a GEM. Yes it’s located on the cusp of the tenderloin, which can be an intense area, however once you step inside the hotel, you are in an OASIS. Smells fab, very clean, great gym space, tasty (but pricey (restaurants), friendly staff and gorgeous spacious rooms. I was lucky enough to be blessed with one of the top floor rooms which had the BEST view of San Francisco. And shoutout to Albert at the front who is so lovely!!

Yelp
We loved our stay here! It's so close to a lot of things, Union Square is under a 10 min walk. We booked through Costco travel and got a really good deal on a 5 night stay. The hotel is older but it's really clean, the staff was always friendly and knowledgeable any time we had to talk to them, they are quick and helpful with getting you anything you need, and there was always someone standing by the front door to let you in and say hello and help you with what you may need help with. We stayed on the 9th floor and it was very quiet every night we slept. Early in the night you do hear some of the city noise especially with the hotel strike going on down the street, but other than that once 10 pm hit it was quiet every night. We went during Fleet Week as well so I was a little worried things would be loud but it was a quiet hotel and the bed is really comfortable, we slept great. The hotel is near the Tenderloin area, I saw a lot of people mentioning that but I never didn't feel safe. It's a really nice hotel and I would definitely stay here again when visiting San Francisco!

Yelp
I'm very surprised that I'm giving them 5 stars- staff has been friendly. Corridors seem a bit dark but like the restored building. The 700+ sq ft one bedroom has been amazing to get work done with a 6 seat dining table and separate desk. I really enjoy the comfort of the couch which is really atypical for me to sit on a couch in a hotel (bit of a germ phob). The location is close to union square. They don't have their own parking but 415 taylor was a great place to park. Comfortable bed, cleaning staff did a great job.

Yelp
We stayed here and it was a great experience. You can park in front of the hotel temporarily up to 10-20 minutes to unload the luggage/check in. Very fast elevators in terms of waiting time. We upgraded for $40 to a junior suite. Not sure how much bigger it is but still feels kinda small. Parking at 325 Mason street for $38 for 24 hours. If it's in and out privilege : 45$. About 3-4 minutes walk from garage but takes forever to drive up to 5th floor on a winding way. We ate at Fredericks for lunch and Rewood for dinner (20% off before 6;30pm on food menu, and $5 beers). gym: has a few treadmill with screens, some pelotas, stairs master, yoga balls, 2 portable benches with dumbbells up to 75#, functional trainer machine with a pull up bar, water station. My one complaint is that the first employee who checked us in gave us wrong information that almost made us miss our Sonesta gold benefit. He said that we don't qualify for the Gold benefits because we are using Amex platinum benefit. But the next day, another clerk noticed that our gold status is not applied to our room and suggested to apply it for us.

Yelp
Excellent property, surpassed only by Albert, the Bell Captain, who gave us wo incredible restaurant recommdations, Fino and Honey Honey, both less than two bocks away. The onsite restaurant, Frederick's, has good and affordable breakfast options. The bar, the Redwood Lounge was very nice. Jackie bartender was a great conversationalist. The property was built in 1915 and while recently renovated, still has amazing charm. The rooms were spacious and quiet.

Yelp
We have been coming to the Clift for over 23 years, and this by far was a big disappointment. The check in was not smooth, and when we got to our 1 bedroom suite, the carpet going into the bedroom looked like someone tracked Dog poo on the rug. We went down to the front desk, showed them pictures and the answer was, " I don't think that's from a dog, I think it's just a bad stain." Ummm stain from what was our question. They said housekeeping would look at it, not sure if it ever was, as was still there when we checked out. We put a towel over the stains, as we didn't want to walk on them with bare feet. Checked out to go to another suite down the road that is cleaner.

Yelp
We reserved this hotel through Amex platinum hotel collections and so far the experience has been miserable with the check in process with the receptionist called Tony who has been very rude to my wife. I will be contacting Amex to see what are the standards to have hotels as part of their network. The so called room upgrade for which we had to pay an extra $30 is on the 13th floor with a nice view but nothing to right home about. The amenities in the room is what you would find in a courtyard and the TV is not high def. The mattresses are soft and so are all the pillows. There is parking on the street but finding one is a challenge. The hotel doesn't have self parking and valet is $75 a day. The cheapest public parking two blocks away is $43/day. Location wise it is a few blocks from union square which is nice but if you make the wrong turn and go down two blocks from the hotel, you will run into San Francisco's unfortunate homeless communities with a lot of drug addicted mixed in. It's a scary scene.

Yelp
We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was a great stay! They have valet service, however it's pretty pricey at $75 a night. There are nearby cheaper options. I didn't like how you have to wait 20 minutes and you have to call before to get your car from valet. The staff was very nice. They heard it was our honeymoon and sent us a complimentary bottle of wine! They helped us right away and answered all our questions! The smell of the place was so nice! Smelled good every time we walked in! The place seemed very clean and modern! They have a small cafe/restaurant and bar inside and they seemed pretty popular! We didn't get a chance to eat inside but the menu looked pretty tasty! The room we got was with a city view which was very nice! It was very clean and included all the soaps and coffee, etc. the bed was comfortable and maid service was great. Got us fresh towels and made the bed everyday! They don't have room service I think? Overall, great place to stay even for a special occasion!

Yelp
Mistakes happen but in response to what you said, this level of negligence should have never occurred in the first place. I was assigned next door to the room I walked into and it was a very uncomfortable experience.

Yelp
Very clean and convenient to many restaurants. The staff were good. Will definitely coming back and choose this hotel to stay.

Yelp
Historic hotel next to the Curran Theatre. Much about this place is great - it's clean, brilliantly renovated, pretty comfortable bed and spacious rooms. The challenges - no room service, no midday food offerings, and given the location being a stones throw from a not so savory part of the Tenderloin, that seems like a miss for such a nice place. When I asked about room service checking in I was told they paused it because of COVID and haven't started it up yet and that the concierge could help with options. Final note - the walls are super thin. I know it's an old building and that's why, but I was surprised to hear every sneeze, cough, etc... so depending on who your neighbors are, it could make for a long night, and that's coming from someone who is usually able to sleepy through anything. If work brings me back I'll definitely be exploring earplugs.

Yelp
Top notch service! We arrived to the hotel at 11 am thinking we are too early for early checkin in ( which we requested) only to learn that we made a mistake while booking. Apparently accidentally we made a mistake and booked the room for the previous month. No problem! The wonderful front desk attendant, arranged for another, even better accommodation ( a suite!! ) and let us in to the room at 11!! Yes, we still had to pay for the reservation we wrongfully made but he helped us with the fees a little . The hotel is wonderfully decorated, staff extremely helpful, Red Room bar sexy and inviting! Our suite was modest and comfortable and quiet! The only down was the AC, I couldn't make it stay at the temp I wanted. It Was a bit warm at night. I highly recommend this hotel. As far as San Francisco and all the stories about it being horrified and dangerous... yeah, stay to the right side when you walk out of it and don't kick the sleeping homeless... Over all, I would stay there again! Great experience!

Cristina F.

Yelp
The Clift in SF is in a bit of a noisy area, and during my stay, there was a strike that made it really loud all night. Despite that, the room was nice and modern, which I appreciated. The bar has great vibes and the food was fantastic!

Shawn P.

Yelp
Please listen to the voice recording that I posed on google maps. This is the sound that you hear all night if you sleep on the 16th floor. 1. Placed me into the worst room next to the elevator machinery that woke me up multiple times at night. This almost caused heart attack. They had other room options but still placed me here. 2. When I called in asking about the sound, they immediately told me it's the elevator machinery. The phone operator (not the front desk) told me they had customers who love this noise. It's my problem that I don't. This is the most interesting phone call experience. I wish I have the phone call recording, but please listen to the video before you choose here.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Simple art deco elegance. Beautiful, clean, quiet corner room on the 15th floor with amazing views and a free upgrade as a Sonesta member. Best price as well for SF. The bartender, Jackie, was fabulous! All the staff is friendly and efficient. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but there is always Uber and Lyft. From the airport, get off at Powell St Station.. Next time I'll take an uber from Powell St station to the hotel, as it was a difficult slightly uphill walk for this elderly man. Don't eat at the Pinecrest Diner down the street. You can see that review also on Yelp. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We arrived to a regular room with two beds. That's not usually our style. Somehow that's the only room that was left that night. We always get a suite in case one of us snores. I'm not gonna point any fingers, but this time we were all sharing a room. My friend was the first to take a shower and she didn't notice anything was wrong with the door. Now here's a little history nobody asked, for I have shower trauma. One time I was in the shower and the shower doors blew up while I was naked and wet in the shower. It's a rare event, but it does happen ! When I see any kind of issue with the shower door, I am mediately getting nervous. The top screws that were holding the door open we're out in the door was tilting a little bit. Of course I was able to shower in it but I was nervous the whole time. In the morning I went downstairs immediately and let them know that the shower door was not on properly. They immediately moved us to a suite a free upgrade. I loved this ! I had my own TV and that's really important to me. We were closer to the elevator, and I appreciated that. Especially after all the walking I did. I love the water box down in the lobby that you can refill your bottles with. The best tasting water I've ever drink. The Decor is beautiful and I love the redwood lobby with the entertainment on Saturday night. Super fun ! They have in-house restaurant called Fredericks that I Absolutely loved. Making this a five star hotel #FiveStars#WeekendInSanFrancisco

Yelp
We stayed here for a night last weekend while we were in the city. It's a very nice hotel in a great location. We were surprised how quiet the rooms were being in the middle of the city with lots of hustle and bustle outside. The last hotel we stayed at down the street was very loud and we were expecting the same here, but were pleasantly surprised that we didn't hear anything from the streets or the hallways even being right next to the elevator. The beds were really comfortable and the service was great at both check-in and check-out. Only thing we wished for was for on-site self-parking which they didn't have. They had a valet service for $70/night. Or else you can park off site in another parking lot you find on your own, which isn't super convenient. We would still stay here again and recommend it to others!

Yelp
Great location and we walked everywhere! Staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. The room was clean with a comfy bed. Absolutely recommend.

Yelp
Great service and amenities! Class act! Best eggs, Benedict breakfast at Fredericks inside the hotel

Yelp
Here for work at this iconic 118 year old San Francisco hotel that had gone thru many changes in ownership over the years. Growing up I remember it was a treat to sit in the famous Redwood Room for a drink with the backdrop of their iconic bar. Pictured are some pictures taken down memory lane with the bygone menu being classic! At those prices, I would order the prime rib dinner at $5.25 and lobster cocktail at $3.00

Cassie B.

Yelp
My friend and I stayed here last weekend for a quick Girls' Nite Away! We felt so welcome, comfortable, and even a little spoiled. We stayed in room 1316 which was a 1-bedroom suite with a king bed, a super spacious common room, and beautiful bathroom. I loved their furniture and decor - simple and elegant. The whole staff was incredibly helpful and and made us feel special. Asal made sure our room was ready for an early check-in as they knew we had plans to get to. Super thoughtful! The front desk staff, doormen, and valet were friendly and always ready to lend a helping hand. The staff at Frederick's were also wonderful and so was the breakfast we had there! Yummy! I should probably be on the lookout for other hotels but our stay was so seamless that I think I might just pick The Clift again! Btw, The Clift is right next to The Curran Theater. The next time I go to a show I'm definitely going to book a room there!

Kathy Y.

Yelp
This hotel is extremely clean. I have been to many 4 and 5 star hotels and I can tell never seen a hotel so clean. Which is very important to me. Location is great very close to union square. Breakfast is amazing

Yelp
More like a 3.5 experience with the potential to be a 5. Here's why. I have expedia gold which is great if you're staying at a Expedia VIP hotel because it comes with some nice perks. The one's listed at this hotel are: no resort fee, free room upgrade (when available) and a guaranteed late check out. The lady at the front desk was nice enough to start but she argued with me about the perks until I showed her on my phone. Only then did she give us an upgrade (along with no resort fee) but I could tell she was annoyed with me. The "upgrade" wasn't really an upgrade at all. I tried to figure out what made my small room any different from the other small room I originally reserved but just gave up. The room was clean, comfy and had a good view. There was a closet so big you could actually sleep in it but to me it was a missed opportunity to make the room bigger. My room definitely needed a better seating area (only one comfy chair). I hate watching tv sitting in bed. The hotel itself is beautiful and I like the location. Depending on price, I may or may not return.

Yelp
The service is great. The music is engaging and got some patrons dancing. We will be back!

Yelp
Hands down, one of the nicest hotel experiences I've had in a big city in a very long time. Everything was perfect and the boutique experience was delightful. Meet my best friend from Grade school (have known each other for 40+ years) for the Dead & Company Final Tour at Oracle Field and the entire weekend went off without a hitch. Our room was HUGE, bathroom was beautiful, closet gigantic and view was terrific. There were very, very few homeless people around the hotel as I believe San Fransisco has cleaned up a bit since some of the other negative reviews shown here. Transportation is right there! 5 minute walk to BART, 3 minute walk to trolly, scooters all around the place and rentable e-bikes are only a 2 minute walk away. The Redwood bar was beautiful and eloquent, however the music was too loud and not fitting for such a space. I'd recommend toning down the club music and stick with classic jazz or what have you. Besides that, A+

Anna W.

Yelp
The last time we stayed at the Clift Hotel, I complained about the 1 ply toilet paper in a 5 star hotel. We arrived back 6 months later and to my surprise there was a 6 pack of 3 ply toilet paper, Cottonelle, sitting in the bathroom.....the clerk at the front desk stated he had a surprise for me in the room, when we checked in. That is 5 star customer service! Only place to stay while in San Francisco.... They treat you like family.

Yelp
VERY small hotel rooms, but I think that's expected in the middle of the city! Extremely close to union square (maybe about 2 blocks). The hotel was very clean and the staff was incredible; specifically Albert who was awesome about dinner recommendations as well as taking our picture with the giant chair (not seen in review). Everyone was very welcoming and we enjoyed our stay! Only downfall I can think of was not many parking options besides valet and can get a little noisy hearing things from the street or nearby rooms! Would definitely recommend this place to friends + family (:

Sophia I.

Yelp
The male at the front desk was rude and very dry during check in. The room was nice and remodeled. Downsides of this hotel is there is no fridge or microwave in the room, there is no ice maker on any floor, the room phone didn't work so I had to use my own and go through operators to reach the front desk and valet parking is very expensive and it took me an hour to receive my car. During check-in the man talked about breakfast, but didn't say if it was included or anything, I then had to ask if it was included and he said no. This hotel is an expensive stay and missing things necessary during a stay. Besides all of this it is in a great location.

Yelp
Great service , stayed in the suite and found it to be pretty spacious. Just a note : there is no pool. I liked that the gym was open 24 hours so you can go anytime . Front desk people were friendly and accommodating. Only thing is , the casting service from phone to tv didn't work - though they did try to trouble shoot with us.

Ivette S.

Yelp
The staff shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. No apology, no help, nothing. Will not be staying again

This hotel gave me 5 star vibes. From the door men, customer service, cleanliness.... just a great stay.

Yelp
This hotel was a perfect place to stay, I feel like it was located in the center of everything! From upon arriving, my friends and I were way early for check in, but the person at the front desk was able to accommodate us and got us checked in early. One of the staff members said that the hotel has gone through some renovations and it did look a bit more "refreshed". The room I had was big and spacious. The bed was comfy and the pillows were fluffy and soft. I, honestly did want to get out of bed during most of my stay. The bathroom was nice, I love the rainfall feature in the shower, though, I had to mess around with the faucet to figure out which way is hot or cold water. The view was nice and I heard there was a restaurant located inside the hotel as well. I was most pleased with the location. So many shop and restaurants are right outside of the hotel, so convenient! I would definitely consider wanting to come back to San Francisco and stay here again! Thank you to the staff for making my experience a good one!

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel for 6 days for San Francisco Fleet Week. Its 15 mins away from the Marina Green and Pier 39. The location is alright, you have a Walgreens and Starbucks literally across the street and the Westfield mall is 7 mins away if you walk it. Staff are so nice and very accommodating. the King room that they have is good for 1 person only it is pretty tight but everything's clean and it smells good. They have a rain shower and a safe. I requested a microwave in my room so I can heat up my food when I need to because I am there for business and I was expecting them to look at me weird lol but when I checked in they confirmed that I still need the microwave and they got it delivered to my room and there was no extra charge as well. On the negative side, the room walls are thin so you can hear when someone comes in their room, open their closets or slides their bathroom doors but for me thats normal in every hotels. Valet parking is $70 overnight with in and out privileges and I didn't mind it and they do warn you that it takes 15-20 mins wait for them to get your car, pretty understandable since San Francisco traffic is bad but I waited an hour my last day there because they didn't have enough drivers. They don't have complimentary breakfast but they have Fredericks and they are EXPENSIVE. They also have a restaurant in the lobby but nothing in the menu really excites me so I didn't go. All in all, with the price of valet parking they are charging I would expect faster service. Rooms are spotless and bed are comfortable. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Alright, I have had good experiences in San Francisco. Many great places and people. This is not one of them. Top concern is that the staff is dismissive and rude. Front desk blew us off multiple time and made us wait 30 minutes to merely continue our stay. They make you renew entry cards every day. The valley, which you are paying an arm and a leg for, shushed me so he could continue a personal conversation with some girls. I was gonna let it go, so I took a step away and was waiting when he turned to me like I was doing something wrong and bark several questions at me about my name and room, then pushed my ticket at me, snatched my key, and continued his conversation. The beds are the worst. I don't remember having a bad bed experience in any hotel. It doesn't stay on the base they have it sitting on so it kept sliding to one side or the other. I almost fell on the floor. The service staff was amazing! They get 5 stars.

Yelp
Our wkd staycation for 2 nights was perfect. Paul the front desk employee and Albert the valet guy were incredible and made our stay soo awesome. Our room on the 11th floor was quiet, spacious and comfy. The Redwood Bar was fun, Fredericks was delish and aesthetically pleasing as the rest of the hotel.

Yelp
So far so good! We arrived right at check in time of 3pm. Unfortunately our room was not ready, so our clerk finished our check in, tagged our luggage and stored it, we used the lobby restrooms, and decided to go for a walk and then grab a bite at the Pine Crest Diner just down on the corner (great btw!) with a promise from our clerk to call us when our room was ready. We wandered, ate, killed 1.5 hours, with no call or text from the clerk. We went back to the hotel and our room was ready ~ not a huge deal but the promised notification would have been nice. We got our luggage and our clerk gave us the run down of the hotel amenities before we went to our room. The room is great - I was apprehensive about whether we would have a window/view, and we sure do! Looking north with a pretty skyline st night. The room was spotless, everything seemed new and in great working order. Plenty of thick, fluffy towels, a safe, iron, ironing board, keurig, 2 bottles of water, shampoo, conditioner, blow dryer, and a robe. The remote was in a bag marked "sanitized". The kimg bed and divan by the window are both comfortable and the pillows are to die for - duck feathers and down. All in all, a very nice stay for two nights. I held back one star since I felt we should have been comped at least a breakfast for the wait checking in and no call from the clerk, and the windows definitely need a good scrubbing on the outside. Parking is spendy - we used the O'Farrell public self park around the corner for a better deal and just hauled our suitcase around the corner with us. I think its $38/day. We might stay here again - but would definitely compare prices and make sure it is the best deal.

Yelp
We dearly love this place and I wish I was writing a 5 star review! Let me start by saying the staff was absolutely amazing and they are the reason we will come back here! That being said we specifically booked to stay here because of the Red Wood Room, and were incredibly disappointed to find out it wasn't open. We have been to San Francisco many times, and always make a trip here to have drinks at the Red Wood room, so this time we were so excited to stay here. We didn't find out the Red Wood room wasn't open ( and it's not closed because of Covid, is what we were told) until we asked about what time it would be opening for happy hour. Talk about a disappointment! Next the shower wasn't even clean. The glass was clean but the floor still had dirty spots and someone else's hair was still hanging on the wall. It was a long dark hair, so definitely not mine. The rest of the hotel was spotless and the bed was fresh and clean, and very comfortable! My husband especially appreciated the extra fluffy pillows! Definitely will be back to visit the Red Wood RooM when it does reopen.

Yelp
Loved our stay here! 1- great location. Walking distance to union square. 2- great room. Interior design of bathroom and fixtures were particularly nice, living room and dining area was so pleasing to eye and used space well. We had the corner room and accepted upgrade for larger room for $75. 3- great responsive service. The front desk, the valet, the times we needed anything- it was efficient and professional. 4- the lobby was great for people watching on new years eve. We sat on the big chair (like really big, is this an IG thing?) And watched people going out, all dressed up. Really fun. 5- we knew abt the $70 valet in advance so werent surprised by it and it was a deliberate decision to use it and we uber'ed around and turned out great. Valet staff were sweet and helpful, especially with warning us to call in advance and allow extra time on new years day morning to get the car. It took 15 minutes and we made sure to call ahead and it was seamless. Would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed over for a couple nights and it was wonderful. I got our room upgraded to a junior suite! It was a birthday present for my boyfriend and we celebrated at the Redwood Room bar downstairs! The hotel was beautiful and the bed was super comfortable, the room was clean and wide! Service was 5 stars, they were quick when I needed new towels or toiletries. Everyone was very nice and approachable. The Redwood Room is classy and rich, there was live music when we were there on a Thursday night around 10pm. I had a reservation for 9 people and they sat us down very quickly! Drinks were pricy ($17+). Overall, wonderful stay and one of my top 5 favorite SF stays!

Yelp
My husband and I spent the weekend there. This a great place to stay right in the middle of SF. The place was clean and the staff were helpful and very sweet. The only problem was just San Francisco itself. The homeless population is out of control. The streets smell of urine. There was a homeless man pleasing himself in the open on the street. One man peed as we walked past him. San Francisco is not what it used to be

Yelp
The rooms are clean, the employees are kind & most things were good. Good breakfast. Enjoyed the atmosphere of the lobby too. However, valet service was inattentive and late. It took about 90 minutes to bring our car on departure. Considering it's quite expensive for parking, I find this worthy to note. The hotel did comp our parking fees, but this put a serious dent in our travel plans in terms of time while leaving the hotel. Other than that it was a good stay

Yelp
They don't have any ON SITE parking despite their false statement on Expedia that they have "valet parking ON SITE." In reality, their valet (a third party vendor) drive your car two blocks away and park it in another structure. Every time you want your car, you have to wait at least 20 minutes. To even start the process, you have to park on the side of the street (where it says NO PARKING) and sometimes even double park (blocking half of the street) and go around to find the valet guy. One night, there were over a dozen cars double parked and waiting and waiting. The third party vendor driving your car two blocks away takes no responsibility for any damage to your car or theft so good luck. When we discussed it with their management that they shouldn't advertise "parking on site" when they park cars OFF SITE, their director (Jason Yee) rudely said we are confused and can stay elsewhere or park our own car if we like. Absolute nonsense and unprofessional.

Yelp
Very nice and welcoming establishment. Very nice hotel rooms and great customer service. Kudos to Albert who not only helped with our luggage but also took some amazing pictures of our Girls Trip group in the big chair located in their lobby. Albert was able to recommend places to eat and provided directions to walk into Chinatown. Thank you Albert!!!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had an decent wonderful stay at this hotel. We had a concert at the Regency Ballroom and this was about a 5 minute drive. SUPER CONVENIENT. The room had a good size and was really clean. Other than that, here are some of the cons: - The shower's water pressure was really bad. The shower head was hard to adjust and the highest water setting temperature wasn't to my liking. - Our view was very bad. We stayed on the 2nd floor (which was one of the few selections they had because the weekend was VERY busy), but what can you say after a whole day of bad luck lol. - Breakfast ISN'T free. My boyfriend and I paid almost $200-300 thinking it came with breakfast... Only if we had known before walking down to the lobby realizing they sell $18 for a piece of pancake...Which is unbelievable! - There's quite a big selection of channels to watch on the T.V. Unfortunately, Netflix wasn't an option. - We came back to the hotel around 12 AM after our concert. They were hosting a bar or party in the lobby (I believe), so there was quite loud music playing until late. Because this is located in a busy street, also expect LOUD obnoxious people who are walking or driving. - Besides the small gym, we only wished there was a pool. $200-300 is quite A LOT of money, especially from two broke college students. We just hope that this hotel does better in the future.

Yelp
Currently staying here, and let me start with what a dump! The rooms are small, and they smell. Aside from the street noises, you also hear weird knocking noises throughout the night. I am writing as I can not sleep with all the noise(3:11 am). Not to mention the pillows and bed are not comfortable. The rooms are also warm, and the AC does a horrible job at cooling the room and keeping it cool. For the price you pay, you might as well stay at The Westin(where I usually stay in San Fran). Far better hotel in every way, from location to comfort, than this s**t hole. This is going to be a long 2-days...

Yelp
Would never stay here again. Feel quite ripped off to be sold on an upscale hotel only to get 1) no one answering phones 2) single ply toilet paper (for real!) 3) part time doorman 4) no concierge 5) no assistance with luggage 6) maid did only bare minimum in cleaning (missed the previous occupants Cheetos stuffed in the chair and dirt build up in corners in bathroom), so called restaurant served limited selection of bar food, only great service was Albert at front door one day (4 day stay) and Ted in the bar.

Yelp
My wife broke her ankle getting off the elevator , no one show any concern . Called EMTs they came took her to hospital. Never heard from any management and when we did speak to a security manager 2 days later he would not let us fill out an incident report . This was a few years ago . It could have been interesting experience . She still has the pins in her ankle. I cannot recommend at all , unprofessional, awful guest service. And no one ever called or followed up to see about her condition .
