The Clock House Restaurant

Absolutely sensational! Best experience we have had in a while. I don’t usually leave reviews but this restaurant is a must visit for the food connoisseurs. We were staying at Four Seasons Hampshire (worst food ever), hungry and desperate, we were lucky enough to get a reservation same day at the Clock House. We were astonished by the whole experience, from the warm welcome, to the restaurant interior, pleasant and smooth music, excellent service from the lovely waiting staff, incredible food (I am not exaggerating as I have had the pleasure of trying multiple restaurants in the Michelin segment in the area) and delicious wine. We had the tasting menu and without spoiling the surprise, every bite was perfection, made with so much attention and utter skill. Truly spectacular! Thank you for the marvellous tasting experience! (One thing I would recommend is maybe to offer two variations of butter for those who might have a more simpler taste palette but otherwise it was everything we could have hoped for and more).

What a brilliant restaurant! Food, service, wine, ambiance all 10/10. Cannot fault anything with the whole experience. The food is so good, every course is inventive and tastes amazing. The service is relaxed and friendly. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. Surprise highlight was the wine pairing, very original choices that made the meal really special. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Had the 7 course tasting menu. Food was excellent, awesome sensations on the palate, well presented, staff were very attentive. Great experience, second time visiting. Worth the wait based you have to book a few months in advance. Bar area needs a upgrade IMO

Excellent. Tried the lunch menu really great choices but had to fill up on bread and the cheese board before desert. However really good service and food quality. Highly recommend.

We visited The Clock House in May. Having never been whilst it was Drakes we were excited to see if it lived up to it's previous reputation. I can safely say it did - and we had a brilliant experience. It's a close shave between this restaurant and Stovells in Chobham for the title of most special restaurant we've visited in Surrey. Clock House may just take it - as not only is the food first class, so is the atmosphere, dining room and service. Looking forward to the next special occasion which might warrant a return here. Let's hope they achieve a Michelin star too - they deserve it.

Took my wife here to celebrate her birthday. More challengingly we had our two children in tow. Amazing food and service that went far beyond what we could have expected. Food highlights included the plaice with celeriac which was beautifully balanced with a meaty Bouillabaisse sauce. The lamb was fantastic too, and the pre desert of cucumber and basic was a real treat. Watching the head waiter teach my daughters croquette so we could enjoy the fish course.

The Clock House was proud to host Pedro Urbina, a fourth generation winemaker and proprietor of Bodegas Urbina, for an exceptional evening of his exclusive red wines from Rioja. At this exclusive Winemaker Dinner, guest enjoyed a privileged access to the man behind these fantastic wines, who will showcase vintages dating back over 20 years. These was also paired with a unique menu, devised by head chef Fred Clapperton, to highlight the food-friendly nature of the wines and showcase the talent of The Clock House kitchen.

For my 200th review, I've been considering a few contenders but in the end, I decided to go for a local restaurant. Drakes is my favourite restaurant in Surrey. It offers top class ingredients allied to superb classical French technique and given a modern twist with the presentation. It retained its well-deserved Michelin star this year. Booking is a smooth affair though trying to dine here on a Friday or Saturday evening can leave you looking at a long waiting list. The restaurant itself is slightly hard to spot but if you've driven through the whole village, you've missed it. Free street parking is available nearby. The dining room is airy and modern and in the summer, there is a garden area for drinks. The restaurant offered a lovely touch of customer service that really impressed me. My friend and I were agonising whether to go for the tasting menu to try more courses or to choose some of the wonderful a la carte dishes and truth be told, we wanted to eat dishes from both menus. This is a sign of a good restaurant to me - when you're agonising over which of the delicious sounding dishes to go for. The maitre d' noticed furrowed brows when he came to take our order and we explained our dilemma. He excused himself and glided off to the kitchen, returning in a few minutes to say that chef Drake had approved for us to substitute a la carte dishes in the tasting menu!! What amazing customer service. So we were able to try different dishes each. My friend enjoyed her scallop starter very much and the accompanying chicken wing was beautifully deboned and stuffed. I got very excited to spot a rare sweetbread on a British menu and went for the celery and almond panna cota (I've noticed that savoury panna cotas are very hip at the moment), roasted veal sweetbread (yummy and creamy) and mushroom biscuit, which was flatter than I had expected but packed full of concentrated mushroom flavour. We then both enjoyed the expertly cooked quail, which was still moist and it was nice to see it accompanied by liver parfait - a sign of a confident chef who will present an element that may be unpopular for some diners. For the fish course, the sole and roasted sea bass were both cooked to translucent perfection and came with creative foils of spring onion mousse, parsley root puree and celery panna cota. My friend then continued with the saddle and breast of lamb, served with fig & prune puree, goat's cheese, crushed kohlrabi and maple syrup. She pronounced judgement with a satisfied sigh and an empty plate. I enjoyed my pork belly, ham hock beignets and squid very much. I finished off with the restaurant's signature creme renversee , a close cousin of creme caramel, which cmae with apple sorbet and a dried apple tuile. My friend had the rhubarb fruit leather, bay leaf cream, ginger parfait and rhubarb consomme, which made fantsatic of the rhubarb in season at the moment. After our meal, Steven Drake, the chef came out to the dining room for a chat with us as he knew we had an interest in food, which was a lovely touch. If you're after a special occasion restaurant in Surrey, this is the place to go!

Fabulous meal with the family. A scenic location, with fast friendly service. Epitome of Fine Dining - food was divine..

This restaurant is simply fabulous. The chef is a genius! It is expensive, but well worth it. To be honest the food is well priced, but the drinks make it an expensive night out. But the cellar here is also fabulous, so you can not help yourself but treat yourself on the beverage front too. However, there is not an awful lot of choice below the £100 a bottle range, but perhaps there shouldn't be with a restaurant of this quality. The service was attentive but not intrusive, the sommelier was knowledgeable and therefore was first rate in my opinion.

This is fine dining in one of Surrey's pleasant villages, the restaurant having an elegant georgian facade, and not really surprisingly a clock. Old style decor in a fine room, with another room off it. A courteous welcome and a chance to order drinks and our food from the centrally placed sofas. My only complaint is that it was a little quiet even on a friday lunchtime two weeks before Xmas, the room could have done with a little more heat, and the lighting didn't seem quite right for a gloomy December lunchtime, I suspect it looks great for dinner moans over. The food was excellent, choice of 3 home made breads,I tried them all in the end, First up was a taster of pea puree topped with grapefruit juice in a small shot type glass, drunk with a staw, the pea first, tasty and unusual. Followed by my pumpkin soup with chorizo rolls in, again really good. Blades of beef followed, these were melt in the mouth. I had cheese course from and excellent cheese board with possibly over lengthy but authoratotive explanations, almost told us the age of the chesemaker and his children! Coffee was served with a variety of sweetmeats, all in all very good. The set lunch is 2 courses for £22, and considering the freebies, excellent value. There is an extensive wine list, the cheaper ones being £18 to £30, and with many in three figures, again the sommelier was very knowedgeable and attentive. I'll be going again, but possibly on a sunny day.
