I really wish COVID would eff off. With a high crowd and no restrictions, Clover is going to be a great Public House.
I was impressed by how bright the Pub was when we walked in. Dark woodwork with bright white walls and a long, beautiful bar. Black leather accents and a great tile floor made it feel almost like Dublin.
The staff was really awesome. Enthusiastic and helpful. They had ready recommendations and some sage, experienced advice on the menu items.
The menu has a more American flair than an Irish selection of "pub grub". Smoked meats, burgers, salads and appetizers. Fries, lots of aioli, and very rich flavors. The selections didn't stand out, but were reliable and good. Some of the smoked meat was a bit on the salty side.
Sadly, the "house burger" was nothing that I would recommend as something to stake a reputation on. It was over cooked, salty, and carried little flavor. But, it was a good side to a great selection of beers. It was fine, but in a world of gourmet burgers, it could be much more.
We had a smelt appetizer that was insanely great though. It was a solid hit.
We played bar bingo, listened to great music and really enjoyed our visit. They have an Old School Perkins style wishing well full of toys for kids at the exit.
All in all, The Clover is a great start. It's poised to be the best single destination in Rosemount. Adding some live music (please make it Irish and not a damned Rolling Stones cover band) and putting up some odes to great Irish legends on the walls will make it feel like Temple Bar.
