"You might think the oldest city in America would be somewhere in the vicinity of Plymouth Rock, but you’d be wrong. St. Augustine was the capital of Spanish Florida long before the Mayflower arrived. And by those standards, the lovingly restored homes that make up The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens are relative newcomers — it’s not every day in the United States that you can sleep in a structure that dates back to the 1790s." - Mark Fedeli

"Another favorite is The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens, a charming, upscale property on Cordova Street at the edge of St. Augustine’s Old Town. The hotel is within walking distance of all the main attractions yet offers a peaceful getaway from the crowds. Rooms are modern yet plush, and shared spaces include a stunning courtyard, cozy bar, and heated pool." - Travel + Leisure Editors

How to Visit St. Augustine, According to a Floridian

@cntraveler

"Tell us a little bit about this place.Spanning nine 18th-century buildings, The Collector pairs all the charm of a bed and breakfast with all the amenities of a true luxury hotel. The property is also walking distance of some of St. Augustine's top attractions, like Castillo de San Marcos, the Lightner Museum, and Flagler College. Can you describe the digs for us?All 30 rooms are modern, spacious, and feature period furnishings. Expect colorful stained glass windows, coquina walls, quaint watercolor paintings, and high-beamed ceilings. Talk us through the food. The on-site bar, The Well, is housed in an old garage. The cocktail menu includes classic as well as herb-fueled local elixirs, all paired with small bites. You'll need to go off-site to truly get your fill, but breakfast is included in the room rate. How did you find the service, start to finish? No little detail is overlooked, from interesting on-site activities (like watercolor painting in the courtyard) to immaculate turndown service. What's the guest demographic here? The hotel has an age minimum of 16, making this a great retreat for harried parents. What about the neighborhood? What else is around? It's walkable to most of St. Augustine's best attractions. Bottom line: Why are we choosing the Collector? The Collector's attention to detail put it in the same class as many higher-tier hotels." - Laura Ratliff

My husband took me here for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday. We had an amazing stay! The property is beautiful and well-maintained. Regina, who welcomed us and checked us in, was so nice and helpful during our stay. I can't say enough great things about Wil - the bellman and valet. His positive attitude, and outgoing personality, were infectious! He always greeted us and often asked about our day and evening. He was truly committed to providing awesome service!!!! Aubrey, in The Well Bar, was very nice and was an excellent bartender. The housekeeping staff was wonderful and took care of our room every day.

This place is outstanding. The grounds around the property are beautiful, the drinks at “The Well” bar on site are excellent, and the staff is amazing. My fiancé and I had a great time riding the complimentary bikes all around downtown. Will, the valet, is incredibly knowledgeable of the local area and very helpful. Micheal the manager was very accommodating and pleasant, and a special shout out Nashana who went above and beyond by helping my girlfriend with hemming her dress. Definitely recommend this place for your romantic stay in St Augustine.

Spent four nights over Christmas and didn't want to leave. A joy to have valet parking, as parking in town can be a nightmare. The car was ready in an instant (just for our daytime trips to golf) and the staff were very helpful. But the true joy, is not needing the car at all, because the location is so central to everything you would want to do. We walked everywhere... to the Nutcracker at Flagler, the Lightner Museum, the meeting spot for our 'festival of lights' tour, and of course all our dining. The hotel is a lovely oasis just off the busy central square. It's peaceful interior garden is a lovely spot to take a break. The fire-pits in the evening, perfect for a nightcap from their cozy bar, The Well. The room was great, with everything you need with super comfy beds and linens. I must mention the breakfast. I had low expectations since it mentions it offers a continental breakfast. No such thing. It was ample and lovely. Hot frittatas and bacon, alternate with french toast or oatmeal, but there is always smoked salmon, cheese, pastries, breads, hard boiled eggs, cereals, fruit, yogurt, etc. In other words, plenty to start your day. Would highly recommend to get the full experience of St. Augustine.

This was our first stay at Collector Inn and we were thoroughly pleased with all aspects of our visit! It's a great base location for walking all around historic old town St Augustine. The hotel is situated on beautiful, serene grounds-- enjoy a drink at the bar, sit by the fire pits or take a dip in the heated salt water pool. The rooms are beautiful and cozy and the staff is truly gracious-- you instantly feel they are glad you are there and want to ensure your stay is memorable! There's lots of attention to detail and we will definitely stay here again!

Google
It is such a beautiful stay—I can’t recommend this place enough to everyone! The property was so beautiful and romantic and in a great location to everything. It was a perfect weekend escape for us. The staff were so accommodating and friendly and really went above and beyond. We were just as happy staying on the property rather than exploring Saint Augustine. Don’t even second-guess the decision—just book it!!!!!!

Google
The property was amazing and the service was exceptional. Charles gave us a tour and spent time sharing its history. The location is easy walking distance to the historic downtown and the waterfront We will recommend and definitely be back!

We loved every aspect of our stay.||Extremely friendly staff, great location, warm heated pool… this was the perfect spot for a long weekend away from the cold. ||They have a bar on the property with the best smoked old-fashioned I’ve ever had. ||I highly recommend The Collector’s Inn.

We were excited to spend New Years and a few days at The Collector in St. Augustine, and looked forward to the "luxury" experience. Sadly, we found the place a bit tired. The sheets and towels were grey from use and age, as were the robes. The breakfast featured overly-sweet packaged muffins and flavorless bacon. The room had no curtains and the wooden blinds could not block the lightbulbs on all night from the building a few feet away. There was no dresser in our room, just a closet. In short, not the luxury we had looked forward to and paid many hundreds a night for. But the buildings had historical charm, the housekeeper was responsive, the landscaping was impeccable, the valets were awfully nice, and the location was unbeatable!

Yelp
GREAT PLACE! Stayed here as my daughter was getting married in town. Location is great. Property itself is wonderful. It's beautiful. We had family members who were staying elsewhere come over to sit in the garden with us and have drinks. Very relaxing. Well bar is cool. Bartenders were very helpful. All the staff we encountered were extremely helpful. We had a suite with ample room and a sitting room which was very helpful. Bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was what you get at a Hampton inn. Rooms are very bright at night due to location (in the town, with street lights, etc. I got up during the night several times to try and make shutters block out more but it didn't work. My personal preference is to have pitch black sleeping conditions so this was an issue. The old town of st. Augustine is within easy walking distance. I'm scheduled to have a knee replaced and I didn't experience any issues other than the physical state of the town's sidewalks and roads (NOT the hotel's responsibility). Parking is a challenge. I noticed several reviews said valet was mandatory - no it isn't. There are public parking lots within walking distance - there isn't ANY parking onsite (it's a historical property inside St. Augustine - there's not really any parking in St. Augustine). I felt valets did their best. To have more on staff would be a challenge if I was running the place as there would be large blocks of time where you'd have several standing around versus just one. You can hear noise from rooms upstairs yes. THIS IS A HISTORICAL PROPERTY - they didn't have insulation 130 years ago or 230 years ago when building these. If you want a pitch black room with zero outside noise then do book somewhere else. If you want to experience St. Augustine in a quaint, friendly beautiful hotel - this is your place. Not five stars because while everything above is true, when you pay $500 a night you do expect some things. Like a dark room & A better breakfast & perhaps some lamps at bedside with the usb outlets for phone charging, etc. I'd say while they nail the large items they miss some of the smaller ones. 5 out of 5 stars means perfect to me. I'm a harsh critic.

Yelp
Apparently, they do not know the difference between a walk-in shower and a bathtub. I reserved a King Guest Room with the description: "The oversized bathroom features a one-of-a-kind pedestal sink, a 'walk-in shower' with rainwater showerhead, and luxury bath amenities." My King Guest Room had a "small" bathroom with an oversized "bathtub" and no "walk-in" shower. They said they were fully booked, so couldn't help, I was told I should have called and asked for a walk-in shower, I said, "I didn't know I had to since it was in the description of my room." They didn't care. The manager just shrugged his shoulders when I complained. One of my friends complained about my room and the manager shrugged his shoulders to her too. I feel like they should have at least compensated me, and they need to add another cheaper room option to their website for crappy rooms like I had!

Yelp
Our first time in St. Augustine and couldn't have found a better place to stay. Amazing staff and accommodations are excellent. Close to everything you may want to explore. It was a pleasure to deal with Will, the valet and/or bellhop. This where your positive experience starts throughout your stay. Aubrey at "the Well" is a treasure and Maria on their staff is a gem. Just to name a few.

Yelp
Spent Christmas weekend here with my folks. I cannot say enough about the cleanliness of the hotel. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in my life and this was the cleanest I've ever been in. I had a king suite that was spacious and well appointed. The bed was a little soft for me but room was comfortable. I did however not enjoy the constant light that flooded the room (H203). The side windows were lit up with Christmas lights so the room never got dark making it difficult to sleep. Some blackout curtains would be appreciated. The grounds are fabulous with all sorts of gathering areas and a few fire pits that go 24/7. The pool is small but well kept and there is a bar on-site that has unique beers and cocktails. My 3 star rating is primarily because the hotel doesn't really prepare you for what you will or will not be getting. This hotel is old....very old. It's a collection of small houses with 3-4 rooms per house. There is little soundproofing so you hear ALOT between rooms and the outside. There are no elevators so you will walk a lot of stairs. They do have bellhops to take your bags up and down but the bellhops are also the valet drivers so expect delays at checkin and checkout. The valet is understaffed so every time you want your car it's a wait which is compounded by the fact that the cars are parked 1.5miles off site. The staff is super friendly but some additional staff would help some of this. There is no restaurant on site and the "gourmet European continental breakfast" promoted in the brochure was little better than breakfast at a Hampton. Overall I liked the hotel, and you are paying a premium for the location. But didn't feel like it was quite up to the 5-star pricing we paid.

Jim C.

Yelp
We enjoyed a 5 night stay during Thanksgiving week in a King Suite with balcony. Very convenient location allowed us to walk to these good restaurants nearby: * Forgotten Tonic * Collage * St Augustine Fish Camp * Casa Reina There are 9 historic homes dating from 1790 to 1910 spread on a one-acre garden site. Big plus is the location as you do not have to deal with the heavy nightly traffic & parking when you go out to eat. Two fire pits were a big attraction with all the guests. Property is kept up well but shelves & closets were a little dusty.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning Inn. The grounds were beautifully manicured with luscious landscape. Tons of sitting areas with a corn hole field near the pool. They have a bar called the Well Room where we ended up taking a mixology class and had a great time learning to make a couple drinks. Everyone we encountered from the concierge to the valet were super professional and helpful. I didn't get pictures of our room but it was so cute. We had a king bed with a private balcony and separate sitting area with a bar and kitchenette. The bathroom was beautiful and modern with a huge shower. Everything in the room was updated and even had an echo dot to help you with questions. The whole room and resort was extremely cozy and relaxing. Came with complimentary breakfast and within walking distance to the main tourist areas.

Yelp
My husband and I had an amazing time here! We got the King Suite and it was the perfect amount of room. I had read on other reviews that the regular rooms were a bit on the small side so I wanted to make sure our Anniversary weekend went off without a hitch. I felt like this was the perfect amount of room for us to spend out and be comfortable. I loved the uniqueness of this hotel. Historical, but with some modern homey updates. This isn't your average BNB with brass bed frames (gross). It has a more "boutique hotel" vibe. We received sangrias when we arrived (super cute touch) and bottled waters (my hubs and I drink over 100oz of water daily so bottles waters at hotels are a must for us). Check in was great. The guy who checked us in was so sweet and kind and very informative on places to eat and the walkability of the hotel, etc. you could tell me loved working there which gave us a great first impression. Loved "The Well" which is I think an old 2 car garage turned into a bar? Its actually very pretty on the inside and the bartenders and drinks were AMAZING! I think they used to serve food but because of stupid COVID that has stopped. Breakfast is a little weak sauce. And I only point this out so you know what to expect. Nothings worse than going in, expecting something extravagant and receiving something sub par. They are forced to do breakfast this way because of the regulations of COVID. I opted for the sandwich, which actually, coming form the microwave, wasn't terrible. lol. In all honesty Im grateful they are still even serving breakfast. They could have taken it away completely. And they bring it to your door! So, we really enjoyed it. We actually brought it out to one of the fire pits one morning because it was still a little chilly outside-epic! Loved how close this was to everything! We literally walked everywhere. We even got ourselves a nice 4 mile run in one morning before the city woke up. I highly suggest staying here. You could spend your entire vacation right at this hotel. Oh, its Adults only which is great! Don't come here to party though, lets keep it down for us geezers who like to go to bed at 8pm ;)

Frank S.

Yelp
Stayed for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great location...5 minute walk restaurants, etc. Rooms were nice and comfortable. The Well bar is a convenient place for a drink and to mingle with other guests. Breakfasts were good and much more than the usual continental breakfasts that most other places offer. Highly recommend!!

Chelsey F.

Yelp
Nice place to stay with a convenient location. We stayed in August so the pool was not refreshing but I guess that is to be expected. Breakfast which is included is a nice spread and thoughtful touches such as a welcome sangria and refillable water bottles in the rooms. One negative is that the walls are very thin so you can hear housekeeping early in the morning. Another small thing is the rooms don't provide paper towels or plates or utensils even though glasses were provided and there is a little kitchen area in the suites so those things are expected. Other than that, nice property and staff are super welcoming, friendly and attentive. The Lightner museum which is nearby attraction was excellent.

John S.

Yelp
We had a fantastic stay at the Collector. The staff is super friendly and very well trained, from the valet to the front desk to Jeff in the Well (thanks for the wine and dinner suggestions), we had a great experience. This is not like any hotel you will ever stay with, it's a group of old homes that take up an entire city block that have been restored with all the modern amenities you would expect - really great. We had a King suite in the Murat house, the oldest on the property. Nicely appointed, fantastic bed, fast internet, very quiet - really, really nice. I do believe this is the best hotel bed I have ever slept on!! Breakfast is served in the check in house, nice selection of options that can be enjoyed in the quiet garden just outside - what a wonderful change from the fast food junk of your usual hotel. 2 blocks from downtown St. Augustine, so you don't need your car, everything is a easy walk. We will definitely be back !!!

Gary L.

Yelp
We booked a King Suite, only to find there are no chairs to sit on to dine in. The room was noisy, and the furniture was very uncomfortable. There were no amenities in the kitchen. It had a refrigerator and a microwave, but no towels, flatware, or plates. I asked the front desk person to send over two chairs and she said it would be no problem. After two hours of waiting no chairs yet. Went to see her and was told that they needed all of the chairs they had accumulated in the lobby because it was raining. The least she could have done was call me to let me know she decided the lobby was more important than the people staying in a $500 a night suite. The next morning, after a very Spartan breakfast, we spoke with the manager and he said no problem, he would send over the chairs, but we decided it was time to leave. The manager was very gracious and refunded the two days we paid for. The bellmen were wonderful. I'd skip the feel-good reviews and read the complaints, they are all true. I'd also skip this place as well when you're in St. Augustine.

Loryn L.

Yelp
Amazing drinks and super friendly bartender at The Well (their own little bar) you don't need to be staying at the collector to come enjoy a drink at this hidden gem!

Chorus F.

Yelp
We enjoyed the grounds...sitting in the evening by the fire. Gary and the bar were a definite highlight...he was helpful and charming. We enjoyed playing the chess and backgammon. Hotel sits in a decent location to explore the historic part of town for easy walkability. The beds were most uncomfortable. My son's neck and back was hurting when we left, and most nights I felt like I might roll off the queen bed w/ my husband next to me and could not sleep. It is time for mattress upgrade in a big way!! Way too soft (and I like softer) and flimsy...all 4 of us were hating the mattresses. Our room lacked the charm the grounds had.

Sharon G.

Yelp
This luxurious hotel is comprised of a string of beautiful historic houses all eventually feeding out onto a beautiful green with lawn games, a fire pit (and it was actually chilly while we were there), and a small bar in a charming and cozy hut. They have been scrupulous with every detail and it really shows. It's also right in all of the historic action of St. Augustine. My one complaint would be the continental breakfast. This was missable and could be improved for the tier that this hotel falls in. But, overall, a truly wonderful place.

Susan C.

Yelp
Fantastic Bnb. Welcome to luxury The rooms are wonderful and many porches to sit, rock and watch the scenery. Perfect location, you can walk everywhere. Breakfast was great. The bar is fun and the bartender bends over backwards to make your drink. We will return.

Bob W.

Yelp
A bit of a mixed bag. The site is very convenient to historic St Augustine, and is fun, quirky, historic, attractive, and peaceful all at the same time. Add a well trained, friendly and efficient staff and I wanted to totally love the place. But...the valet parking is a bit inconvenient, their breakfast venue is a little tight, breakfast hot items weren't, and our room (they are all different, so experiences could differ...) was tight, dark, and lacked enough plugs for convenient phone charging. So...worth a try but bring your sense of humor!

Heather N.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 days! Had very great customer service since the moment we walked in. Since we were between two hotel stays we were a hour early to our check in and they had our room ready for us! Which was very nice to unpack when we arrive versus a hour later. The amenities provided at the hotel are great, re-usable water bottles, breakfast included, cute lawn games and bikes to use all day to ride around town. Bonus; upon check in you get a glass of welcome sangria! YUM, please share the recipe. I need more! We enjoyed the Well Bar on property. I would just recommend going during happy hour as the drinks are a little $$ and will add up quick in price if you get multiple. The best part of the visit was the customer service we experienced. We unfortunately had a flat tire on our rental. The valet staff noticed this on their own and called us to inform us. The maintenance team changed the tire to our spare for us. This customer service went above and beyond our expectations. I would definitely recommend staying here. Do it!

Jay P.

Yelp
Just a wonderful experience. We stayed two nights and already are planning our next return trip. The grounds are lovely, the pool so relaxing, and the drinks at The Well were perfection. Our room was clean and spacious. Due to local health restrictions, they did not have daily maid service. But it was incredibly easy/convenient to swap out towels and have trash pick up. That didn't deter from our experience at all. The complementary sparkling water (coconut, cucumber, or lemon) was the perfect refreshment after a day out in the town. The "continental" breakfast was incredibly generous! We enjoyed the frittata, turkey sausage, and lox. The pastries and bagels were freshly baked. You won't leave breakfast wanting for anything. Overall, just an incredibly well done hotel. One tip- if you have a private balcony that isn't covered, bring your cushions in. Those afternoon Florida rain showers pop up and the cushions will be soaked. We liked sitting on the balcony with cocktails before dinner.

Ari B.

Yelp
Searching for a hidden gym within walking distance to the busy streets of St. Augustine? Well, look no further as this historic property is a perfect hideaway and walk away from Downtown. We came for our Stay-Cation before Christmas, as we live in Jacksonville, and were greeted warmly by the office staff with a homemade sangria. Definitely what we needed on this rainy day! The valet and hospitality staff were really kind and toured us around the property before showing us to our quaint little retreat poolside. There's plenty of room for kids to run, perfect little escape areas to talk and cuddle, fire pits to hangout after a long day of strolling and shopping, and even their own hotel bar named "The Well." "The Well" boasts an excellent collection of whiskeys and local brews with a small, but great menu for those late night craving. Each room comes equipped with an iPad, perfectly stocked snack bar, cutlery and dish ware for your to-go food, and even super comfy robes. This hotel has become our monthly getaway spot and we could not be happier.

Harry O.

Yelp
Another fabulous stay at The Collector Inn. A must stay for travelers wanting more than just a bed and breakfast. From the valet service to the welcome drink, from the on-site history lesson to the Well, their bar for craft cocktails, the Collector Inn is top-notch.

Robyn Y.

Yelp
Update: A couple days after I wrote my review, an email was sent out that says, "Due to the historically significant nature of the property and to provide our guests with a relaxing environment during their stay, we will be transitioning to an adults only facility as of January 1, 2019. We ask that all guests be 16 years of age or older." Unfortunately, this means we can't stay there any longer since we don't have the ability to travel without our son. It's definitely a shame. They do have a lot of historical items in their rooms and I wonder if something was damaged at some point... any way, this place will now only be good for couples essentially. Let's hope the adults don't end up being as disruptive as the children were (because we all know that happens sometimes as well).

Teresa W.

Yelp
Pure luxury! Pure indulgence! Hospitality at its finest. This was the old Dow museum and now houses a luxury hotel. We had the pleasure of staying at The Collector for a few days during our anniversary week and we could not have been more pleased. Be prepared to be treated like you are at the Ritz Carlton, but on a much smaller, more homey/comfortable feel. The property has so much history which you will enjoy learning about and the buildings which house the hotel rooms are magnificent. They have all been redone and are filled with beautiful furnishings. There is a pool on the property, a bar which makes great signature cocktails and a lobby area that serves breakfast each morning. The staff is small and all very friendly. We had the same person take our luggage to our room the night we checked in and remove our luggage when we checked out a few days later. This feels like family. It is a quiet property, but located within walking distance to the downtown area and a lot of great restaurants. We will come here again and definitely vote this as the best place to stay in St. Augustine.

Julia T.

Yelp
I am still dumbfounded by our experience at The Collector. Based on other reviews and the cost per night of the hotel, I expected 5 star service and (for the most part) that's not what we received. We checked in on New Years Eve and were greeted by John, a nice and accommodating valet/bellman. He escorted us to the reception desk where Jillian (not sure if this is spelled correctly) got us all checked in, pointed out a few key features of the property, and confirmed that there was a note on our account about us expecting a package to arrive during our stay. An excellent start to our staycation. We were put in the Rose House, in a downstairs room. The room was spacious, well furnished with a sofa, reading chairs, small kitchenette and lovely remodeled bathroom. Unfortunately being that this is an older house, you can hear everything that goes on in the room above you and also outside. We heard what sounded like the people upstairs rearranging their furniture and tap dancing in high heels. Dispute the lack of sleep we got because of our noisy "neighbors", we tried to get out and enjoy the sights of Saint Augustine. 2 nights later is when my package was set to arrive. I received an email confirmation from usps with a tracking number that my package had been delivered to the front office. When we went to collect the package a few hours later, we were told it had been redelivered to the Post Office. My name was not on the room reservation (even though they had my credit card on file and I checked in with the guest's whose name the reservation was under), so instead of holding it or looking through the notes in their system "which we can't possibly do because we have so many guests", we were instructed to go to the Post Office to retrieve it. So we walk to the post office, stand in line, speak to a representative and proceed to wait 45 minutes while she looks everywhere for this package. And can't find it, even with the tracking number. We go back to the front office of The Collector and are told that the person working at the front office at the time the package arrived, opened the package, removed it's contents, put it into a return envelope and returned it to sender. Again, why not look through the notes in the system or hold on to it for a day to see if one of your paying guests comes to collect it. No that apparently is not their policy. But it is ok to open a guest's package. So when we are ready to checkout of the hotel, I advise the front desk agent that we are unhappy with what happened with the package. She tells me there was no note in the system about us expecting a package to be delivered. Wait... but we called a week in advance of our stay and another member of the hotel confirmed the note was on file. I ask to speak to the manager. Charles comes out to speak with us. He begins by explaining their "package policy" but then proceeds to tell me they receive all kinds of packages under names that are not guests of the hotel. He even goes into the "storage closet" and brings out an Amazon package that they've had for awhile and have no idea who it belongs to. So, you do keep some packages for longer than an hour just not mine. After many stories, some excuses, and an apology for his employee sending us back to the Post Office to retrieve the package they shouldn't have returned, he asks the front desk agent if there was a note on our account about the package and she says yes. I'm confused, 10 minutes ago you said there was no note on the account?! Now there is one. Apparently they have several different systems/areas for notes. All I wanted was for the hotel to do the right thing, apologize genuinely, don't make excuses and ask how you can make it right. I would expect this kind of service from a "cheap" motel but not from a $300 - $500/night Luxury Inn.

Yelp
This is one of the best properties I have ever stayed in. The fact that is "adults only" is a selling point not nearly touted enough! NO KIDS! I have three kids of my own, "Sorry, kids! Not comin' on this trip!" I think maybe that's why this was fantastic. Well, that and the staff is amazing, the king beds are huge, it's quiet - I mean, it's located across the street from the Convent, the nuns are not the rowdiest bunch - and it's just perfectly landscaped with beautiful paths and greenery to enjoy. It is also located within STEPS of St. George St. and its fantastic historical sites, shops, and restaurants. I will, in fact, stay here again and again and again, especially if it means my kids have to stay home.

Yelp
Very nice quant and friendly luxury Inn My husband and I stayed in the oldest house on the property which is the Murat House build in 1790. So charming clean and serene! We highly recommend staying here and we definitely will be back Thank you to the awesome staff

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a little get-a-way. What a nice GEM. I've never stayed at a place like this before because I'm more loyal to brand hotels that I'm familiar with. This place was so quaint and comforting. We were told they opened in March so this is sort of new to them. Service: LeeAnn checked us in. There were no issues checking in. I don't recall the bell-hops name but he was very nice. He brings and takes the bags and do valet parking, I'm sure among other things. He walked us to our room, gave us a tour of the room and before leaving asked if there was anything else he could do. Very nice Room: Very nice, we had a room with a living room seating area. I'm not sure if all rooms are the same. The room had a small area with a fridge, microwave, sink- underneath was some silverware too. There was a large tv on the wall, fireplace and sitting area. The bedroom was a large king size bed, fire place, Ipad instead of a hotel book, charging clock for phones. In the room we also had a table and 2 chairs, very nice accent to the room. Bathroom: Nice tiled bathroom, big nice shower with large shower head and a second shower head. If you've forgotten something I'm sure it'll be available in the bathroom for you. Very nice! Breakfast: There is a breakfast but we did not partake in the breakfast and we missed the happy hour at the bar-so I'm not able to give any feedback on that. Grounds: The grounds are absolutely beautiful and manicured. The cobble stone walk way, the fountains, the flours, the fire pit outside pool, all so complimenting. Location: This is about 2 blocks from downtown. After we finished downtown we were able to walk back to our hotel. Price: A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. Checkout: We used the Ipad to call for our car-we picked a time. When we arrived at the front our car was there and ready to go. We stepped inside to check out-the process was quick and painless. Recommendations made at checkout: In our room the bathroom was on the porch entrance and the blinds did not fit. Either way if someone was walking on the porch someone could see into the bathroom, this made me very uncomfortable. I showered with the light off. Hopefully this will resolve rather quickly.

Yelp
Came here on the recommendation of someone we met in the pool of a nearby hotel. This was the most unique, friendly, beautiful resort that we have ever stayed at. The "rooms" are in very old houses (1800s mostly) but are still modern. The suites have a mini-fridge and microwave so you have a place to store and reheat all the wonderful leftovers. It is on the edge of Old Town so museums, restaurants and bars are an easy walk away. The Well is the on-site bar and is wonderful. There are fire pits where you can relax and enjoy your cocktail. There is an on-site tour given by a woman who has been intimately involved with the property for years. She has a wealth of information. And the place is not crazy expensive.

Yelp
Huge issue: If you have stayed here and walk the grounds to see where you might want to stay when you go back...you cannot pick your room or house for your next stay! We have stayed several times and we loved the Rose house and need a first floor room, we could not get that room. We arrived April 12th to find out our room was not available (no hot water) so they offered us upstairs rooms with an uncovered balcony or a ground floor room that was so small my husband hit his head going through the doorways. We did not get a discount they gave us two drink coupons only. We stay at 5 star hotels and are always able to request a room and if not available they make sure we are happy with a new room or they give it to us free. There are plenty of bed and breakfasts in St Augustine that are beautiful and you can choose your room, with a porch or covered balcony on the first floor.

Yelp
I wish I could give it five stars. The grounds are beautiful and the concept of a cluster of older buildings each housing multiple suites is great. The facilities are all new so the physical environment is close to perfect. The problem is the lack of service from the front desk and the breakfast they provide. Examples: the morning of checkout I asked to have my car brought around and my receipt printed up. Was assured both would be ready when I got there. 30 minutes later I stopped by. No receipt, no car. I asked again and this time personally found the valet guy who got my car. Still no receipt; the desk clerk was talking to someone else. Sent my partner back after 10 minutes; still no receipt. He simply asked her to email it. Check out receipts are not difficult to do. Just get them preprinted that morning before people get to the desk. You know who should be checking out so hand them to them if they come to the front desk, rather than get busy and forget to get them. Second: breakfast. Was pretty skimpy. They didn't seem to bother restocking the buffet, you can see what we saw when we got there. We passed on the remnants and went elsewhere. It cheapens the whole experience when you have these lapses in service! Suggestions: have two people at the desk when people are checking out, preprint receipts for people and get someone stationed at the buffet so it doesn't look like this:

Yelp
I took my husband on a little getaway for his birthday weekend and we had the best time at the Collector Inn. Our room was a charming suite in the H building, which was great for several reasons: we had room to spread out, the building conveniently faces St George Street, and the back steps of our room led directly to The Well! The weather cooperated for a few hours, and so on a February afternoon we got to spend a few hours relaxing by and in the heated pool. We had it all to ourselves! All the staff from the valet, to front desk, to the bartenders, to the folks that delivered our covid-minded continental breakfast, all made us feel right at home. This is a luxury inn for laid-back people.

Yelp
Worst "luxury " hotel experience we've had the displeasure of experiencing. The rooms feel dirty and small and you can hear every footstep of the room above you. The room phone did not work either so we couldn't call the front desk to ask about a triple room charge on our credit card. Be that as it may, we were locked out of our room with a magnetic key card that didn't work, and after trekking across the property twice to have it reprogrammed, we were informed that the door lock was broken and that we would have to either leave the door propped open when we left the room or that if we were concerned about the security of our property in the room "one of you can stay in the room while the other gets what you need" the extremely unpleasant and surly front desk attendant informed us. We were forced to wait in the lobby for 30 minutes at 9:30 at night while she broke into our room, and never once did we get an apology or anything but attitude as if we were inconveniencing her for asking to get into our room. We understand that sometimes things happen that are unexpected or out of your control, but when you're in the service business (or any business for that matter) there's a way to deal with it that's friendly and hospitable rather than angry and surly

Yelp
I apologize for the length of this review but please take the time to read it to find the true character and lack of integrity of The Collector Inn. I do not recommend that anyone waste their money or time staying here.. But I am going to begin with the positive features of The Collector as some of the employees do deserve praise and then brace yourself. The grounds are very well maintained and it's a gorgeous property all in all. Our room was great, bed was comfortable, it was very clean (minus the shower issue that I will get to). Location is fantastic and it worked out really well as far as convenience to wedding venue, rehearsal dinner, and going downtown. Our valet attendant was fantastic, so nice and helpful. These guys have to run to a totally separate unattended property to take and retrieve your vehicle (which made us uncomfortable but it is what it is). The bar is a very cute little building and both of our bartenders were very nice and accommodating to my "mock tail" needs and my husband says all of his drinks were fantastic. But minus all of these accommodating and kind people, forget it. The management is absolutely terrible and nobody is on the same page. We stayed here Wednesday-Sunday for my little sister's wedding, she has been a guest of The Collector approximately ten times, and my family had around 18 rooms reserved for the occasion (wedding was at a separate venue). Upon check in we were greeted by a quite rude front desk clerk. I was hoping this would be our only minor issue.. The ONLY reason we stayed at this particular place is so that my sister could have her wedding pictures made here before the wedding because of the property's utter beauty. When the reservations were booked, we were all on the same page and of course were granted permission to have her pictures taken on the property. She even received a notice stating "please no pictures on the property *unless you have booked at least 10 rooms*". (Reminder we had 18 I believe). This is where it gets really interesting.. Not only were we having to listen to horribly obnoxious and completely inappropriate construction on our house exterior stairs while we were getting ready and supposed to be relaxing.. (the stairs were in complete working condition but there was a little almost unrecognizable wear on the riser, maybe termites or just a little rot)... We were approached during pictures that we did NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO TAKE PICTURES ON THE PROPERTY. This went on for approximately 30 minutes (the biggest waste of everyone's time) having to go back and forth with management reminding them of our agreement, and even showing them their own sheet of paper with their own rules that we were perfectly abiding. They were not going to allow us to take pictures whatsoever. Finally, much to their dismay and disapproval they did "allow us" to take the pictures but by then then too much time is wasted, everyone is upset, and the day was close to being ruined. Why wouldn't a property want the exposure of a beautiful bride with stunning professional pictures? They are just flat-out liars, knowing good and well what they were doing, happily taking our money and then going to deny us pictures. Back to the construction; hammering, sawing, all day long, and taking stairs off WHILE WE ARE OCCUPYING THE HOUSE, and with no other public exit. Barely apologizing yet making sure that I was "careful not to fall". Surely there would have been a better time to do this unnecessary maintenance. About our shower, for such "luxury" accommodations our shower did not drain well at all. This is a huge pet peeve of mine as we all know the nastiness that washes down the drain that I am now having to stand in while I'm supposed to be getting clean. So gross and inexcusable. As you can see in many other reviews, noise is also an issue. You can hear everything from the room above or below you and all outside noise. During our stay I was awoken between 5:15 and 6:15 every morning by what seemed to be a loud garbage truck right outside our window. All in all, upon getting the the wedding venue the wedding then went on without an issue and it was a beautiful evening. But I will make sure that everyone I know visiting St. Augustine knows not to stay with The Collector and I will never forgive them for nearly ruining by little sister's special day and adding unnecessary stress to all involved.

Yelp
Such a unique and amazing experience!!! I found this location while looking for a unique and reasonably priced place to stay that was walking distance to the main downtown area. The Collector popped up and what a great thing it did. The Collector is actually a cluster of historic houses that have been renovated and converted to separate rooms. Each house has about 5-6 rooms and each one is different. Being a more historic place the rooms were a bit snug but had a spacious bathroom and a little kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, which is hard to come by. Our room also had a king sized bed which probably made it a bit tighter, but it was not uncomfortable. Even with the smaller rooms, there was enough very nice common space that we could enjoy that we really did not spend a lot of time in the room. There was a central common courtyard area that contains green space, the pool, fire pits, and a little stone building that has a little bar in it. The bar does happy hour from 5-6 and 10-11 and is half off everything. The mixologists working there were phenomenal! We ended up just hanging out at the Inn for most of the night instead of wandering around the town as we were having such a good time. They were able to make custom cocktails based on our preferences and even offered homemade ingredients. Everything we tried was delicious! The Inn also offered a breakfast in the main lobby that offered a variety of fresh options, what you would expect for a nicer establishment. They also have coffee, water, and flavored popcorn all day long in the same location. The popcorn was surprisingly very good and we ended up taking full advantage of it...especially with the cocktails. I wish we could have stayed more than a night, but we definitely found a hidden gem and it will be tough to stay anywhere else after having such a wonderful experience.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary and we can't wait to go back. Superior service, friendly staff (Mike and Jillian are the best) and the property is historic and pristinely kept. Historic houses with fresh modern updates. The grounds have fantastic seating areas with fire pits, a cute little bar named The Well, and so much art and eclectic items to see. Also the pool is a nice little place to cool off. Great location to the art district, short walk to everything with seeing.

Yelp
We just had such a wonderful two night stay as first time guests. We will return to this lovely Inn. Amazing gardens and so peaceful. The staff does everything to make you feel as though your their only visitor. From the time we checked in with Andrew, we were in heaven. It is an adult only facility and perfect for those of us who want to have tranquility.

Yelp
This place is a perfect romantic get away. The rooms are beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. The bar on the property has great drinks and the grounds are beautiful.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my stay at The Collector and wish we could have stayed more then just one night. My husband and I had ourselves a little getaway to St. Augustine and he picked this hotel, he made a great choice. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Every person I interacted with greeted me with a smile and was very friendly with anything I needed. The inn is walking distance to so much, including the fort, George Street and all it's businesses as well as the San Sebastian Winery and the distillery. To be honest though I had just as much fun enjoying the beautiful grounds and the hotel bar. The mixologists were phenomenal. The first cocktail I ordered (Brooklyn's Finest) was so good I was scared to order anything else but the guy working the bar just said, "Let me make you something" and that was all that was needed. I could not honestly tell you everything he put in my second drink, another egg white cocktail with a few different things garnished with fresh honeycomb, but it was delicious. We went for both Happy Hours (5-6pm and 10-11pm), all the drinks were half off so they were not only delicious but cheap. It is worth mentioning that the rooms are small as the buildings are historic. Our room had a king sized bed which took up most of the bedroom. However, the bathroom was very spacious so that's where we ended up setting up the suit case. The room did have a little kitchenette with a sink, fridge and microwave as well as dishware and cutlery. These little amenities were great to have and don't come with a standard hotel room. Another amenity offered with a stay here is a continental breakfast. They had a variety of baked goods, fruits, cereals as well as a few other breakfast staples. Nothing special but great to have. They also have coffee, tea, water and flavored popcorn available at all times in the lobby which we also took advantage of. Absolutely loved our stay here and will definitely be returning for future visits to St. Augustine.

Yelp
This is a wonderful bed and breakfast! The location is just right for seeing all that St. Augustine's pristine town has to offer. I've travelled to many 5 star hotels through the years and the Collector has the same quality service at a fraction of the cost. The room was comfortable and the small added touches were just right to ensure a welcome respite. The personalized iPad by the bed being one example. Most of all, the staff was warm and inviting from check in to check out and every moment in between. Thank you for a fabulous stay and we will certainly be visiting again soon!

Yelp
Great location and walkable to everything in the historic district. The grounds were wonderfully maintained. The bar (The Well) was quaint, small, but happy hour was amazing, and the bartender will make you your own drink from scratch with fresh ingredients. The room: Very small for the $300 per night price. Our room (S206 in the Spear House) was smaller than our own master bedroom. No chair in the room. We literally had to sit on the toilet to put on our shoes, if that gives you any indication how small the room is. Room came with a small fridge, microwave, sink, bottled water, and even an iPad. The bathroom was quite nice and large. The shower great water pressure and beautifully decorated. The complimentary toiletries were of high quality. To sum it up, the price of the room versus the size is not appropriate in our mind.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed our visit to the collector. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, go visit Riley at the Well and enjoy a drink with the fire pit

Yelp
We absolutely loved The Collector Luxury Inn and Gardens! What a unique property that is beautifully appointed with amazing landscaping. Our room was so comfortable with all the amenities you could ask for to make our stay extra special. One of the highlights of our stay was visiting the bar located at the center of the property. Riley Dexter Bowen was our bartender and did an amazing job of creating cocktails both on and off the menu. He is friendly and knowledgeable and tops of the list of world-class bartenders based on our travels across the US and otherwise. Try the Ramos Fizz for an extra special treat but also let Riley make you one of his specialty custom-made creations. You won't be disappointed. When in St. Augustine, make sure you stay at The Collector and pay a visit to Riley at the bar. You will be happy you did!

Yelp
Went to St Augustine to travel for pleasure for a weekend getaway. We initially chose The Collector for its location and cool, boutique online vibe. Our stay did not disappoint: 1. From the valet to the front desk to the various service staff, EVERYONE was pleasant, friendly and made and effort to engage you and be courteous. We were very impressed with the staff's professionalism. Valet Brady was especially friendly, remembering our names and asking about our experiences. We also loved the breakfast/cafe organizer/manager, who was eager to help everyone and took pride in serving. It is very apparent that the inn is careful to hire passionate, high-performing employees. 2. The rooms were clean and immaculate. Tastefully decorated and newly renovated, they felt cozy and made us easily feel at home. Turn down service was an unexpected luxury with a quick room spruce up and chocolate mint on our pillows. 3. The hotel bar, The Well, was a gem. We connected right away with Bartender John, who is a very talented mixologist. We asked for him to make us a great bourbon drink, and he produced bourbon/orange creation that was very impressive. Apparently, he has won state-wide awards for the creation! 4. The hotel offers a complimentary historic tour of the property. We were so glad to attend, because the story of the property was very intriguing and rich with history. If you stay here, definitely check it out before you leave. We will definitely be back. While the cost to stay is a little more than some of the hotels in the area, the experience is well worth the cost. Perfect for a romantic getaway or group getaway. Probably not ideal for traveling with kids.

Yelp
We had a great stay at the Collector! It's a local boutique hotel refurbished on top of a historical house and garden. It's a great resemblance of St Augustine and its history. The garden is well-maintained and the pavement was new and clean, people are very nice and really give you lots of tips about what to do in the area. The hotel is only 3 mins walk to the walking street, which is where lots of things are happening! Wish I had the chance to take advantage of the bikes. Maybe next time!

Yelp
I really want to give this place a 5 star, I really do. Majority of things were great from the booking, to the staff, the beautiful grounds, the historic buildings, the unique rooms, and the central location. But as we entered the foyer, we were overwhelmed by the smell of mold. When we entered our room, however, it was spotless and even the bathroom was remodeled, which was puzzling. I tried to convince myself that it was just musky, or perhaps a musky air freshener. My husband argued that mold is typical on the east coast or anywhere with humidity. But the second offense was that there was mold along the edges of the shower. It wasn't anywhere we'd have to touch but it still made me cringe, and the smell was just so strong and deep in my nasal passages that I kept clearing my throat. Because it was only 2 nights I decided to bear it rather than go through the hassle of looking for a new hotel and arguing for my money back. Without the mold, this would be an absolute 5 star rating and we'd be repeat customers.

Yelp
Absolutely fell in love with this place! The room was clean, quiet and private. No children on the property. The pool was relaxing and there's a small private bar nestled between all the "rooms." I say "rooms" because this is more like a village of apartments rather than a traditional hotel. The staff were all friendly and outgoing and happy to recommend great local spots that you would normally miss out on. Everything downtown is less than a half mile walk away, no need to drive anywhere once you're settled in. 100% recommend and will definitely return.

Yelp
Very aggressive staff I was very frightened I came here today to stay for one night and explore the beautiful city of st Augustine As soon as You come to the hotel they force you to have a person to take care of your car and pay extra $30 per night and Walk you to your room to take your luggage I asked for self park and he guy started to be aggressive towards me when I mentioned I wanted to see my room he explored and verbally assaulted me I said I wanted my key back and he wouldn't give it back ; I went back to the reception explained my situation and asked to cancel the reservation as I was scared I thought the guy was gonna hit me Terrible place and terrible service It's a shame to this city

Hugo M.

Yelp
This may be one of the greatest hotels in the world. The most luxurious of bedrooms and bathrooms on a unique property of converted historic houses. There is a lovely bar in the middle of the property and fire pits for the rare chilly evenings. It is worth a trip to St. Augustine just to stay at this hotel.

Yelp
For our five year anniversary I googled "top 10 best bed and breakfasts in St. Augustine" this place came up and by far it did not disappoint. Between the last minute upgrade they did; the spot on service at the concierge, valet, and bartender; the amazing breakfast and late night happy hour; fire pits; and overall homey feeling it was an incredible experience and a place I will forever recommend.

Yelp
My friend, the bride, booked a block of rooms for her wedding at this hotel for her wedding weekend dated 1-18 to 1-21-18 First the pros: Easy walking distance to most everything you would want in St. Augustine. Beautiful property and rooms. Some say they were small, which was true for our room considering the price. But we knew it was a historic inn and so figured the sizes couldn't be helped since they are in homes that are centuries old. It didn't really bother us too much. Shower was amazing, with plenty of hot water and a wonderful waterfall shower head. Plenty of towels, room always cleaned, and *most* of the front desk service was very nice. Free continental breakfast was simple but nice and filling. We enjoyed the coffee and tea in the room, as well as the extra bathroom items (more than just a standard shampoo and soap). Beds were quite soft, and felt like I was sleeping in a hole, but it wasn't uncomfortable either. Property is well kept, and the fire-pits were nice and gas, not wood, so the benefit of not smelling like an ashtray was a plus. The Well is small, again in an old building, but drinks were good and not watered down. Our happy hour prices were worth it, though the later full prices we had were quite expensive. Young man at the front desk was nice and helpful with some stationary items I needed, though I recommend adding tape to the area. We also appreciated the valet service (separate from the cost, which you will read below) as the man was able to move our car to the free weekend lot for us after our check out. This enabled us to go to a post-wedding brunch within walking distance. Cons: We knew going in that it was pricey, yet we didn't anticipate the additional headaches, as it should be smooth sailing for this price. First of all, no where in our initial booking information was there a mention of the $20/day price for parking. As valet is the only option, a mention at the start would have been nice. Secondly, we had our price change FOUR times, in part due to the updated parking/amenities fee that sent out a mistaken price change. We were not the only guests who were confused and angry and we know the hotel heard from a few of the guests and the bride and groom prior to our visit. The response I got from Jennifer J. was less than helpful and I had to go back and forth with her a few times to get a clear and concise explanation of our final price. It still took 6 days from the time I received the crazy price increase email to a final official email that was simply stated and clear to understand. Thirdly, a pro and a con - while the bathroom was very nice and had a shelf above the sink that would satisfy most, it was not enough room for the extra space I needed in prepping for a fancy wedding. I therefore went to the lobby and asked if there was an extra small table or stand I could use for my various hair appliances. The woman I spoke with was less than friendly, though I didn't get her name. She did not seem happy to have to talk to anyone, much less me, and her sour look put me off. She said she would "look in to it". The next day, which was the day I would need it, I asked the front desk if any table had been located. The young man there was very friendly, though he hadn't previously heard of the request. This shows the other woman didn't really care to "look in to it". He was able to locate a small patio table that worked out perfectly with 10 minutes and it was cleaned and delivered to my room, for which I am grateful. Lastly, the night of the wedding the couple and some close friends and family went back to the hotel courtyard by the well to socialize. Two of the women decided to go for a swim in the heated pool despite the cold, and after they got in were very rudely informed that the pool was closed. NO WHERE was there any signage on pool times, and in fact the lights were on in the pool area. The women immediately complied, however, the bartender made motions toward opening the gate while the women were still climbing out of the pool, which to me acted like he would physically remove her if she didn't comply. Then we were informed of a noise complaint, which goes back to my booking frustrations. 80% of this hotel was booked for this wedding. If the hotel had placed the 80% of rooms all in the same area, with the 20% perhaps being in the front of the property, then the wedding guests would not have minded in the BRIDE was having a good time on her wedding night. We were not loud anyway. But this was an annoyance that proper placement could have solved. Overall, we saw improvements after our initial room rate troubles, but there are more changes that should be made before I could recommend this hotel over a similarly price hotel like Casa Monica. I would love to try it again someday and see if they improved, but the cost will prohibit me for now.
