3 Places to Try in Seattle This Weekend | Eater Seattle

"An unassuming Columbia City spot inside a jazz club that feels like family — during the day it looks like a vacant banquet hall but the simple, lovingly made soul-food dishes (fried catfish, shrimp po'boys, oxtails with rice) deliver, and the collard greens with turkey are particularly stellar." - Megan Hill

My son wanted Soul Food for his birthday and we found this place on google not far from our house. The food was absolutely amazing and folks running the place are so nice. We are definitely telling friends and family about the food here and coming back again.

Traveled from Anchorage, Alaska to Seattle for a weekend concert and wanted some soul food while in town. Our original restaurant we wanted to go to was closed and google recommended Comfort Zone as a similar restaurant. While not large in size with only a couple of small quaint tables to sit at, the five of us were able to dine inside. The owner Tayla Miller greeted us upon entering and took our orders. The overall customer service throughout our meal was excellent. The food however….. wasn’t excellent. It was AMAZING. Between the five of us we ordered majority of the menu. From the fried chicken wings, catfish, seafood gumbo, hush puppies, shrimp and grits, to the sides of cabbage, Mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, to the desserts of peach cobbler, pound cake and sweet potato pie…. All made with pure love and seasoned to God. Nowhere on the menu (we overheard another customers order) were the “soul rolls” which are a heavenly blend of Mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, and fried chicken all in a egg roll wrapper deep fried to perfection. Mind blown. If your ever in the Seattle area and have a taste for traditional soul food Comfort Zone is THEE place to give a try.

In town visiting from Baltimore and a bartender recommended this spot for a my soul food fix. Allow me to say it did not disappoint. I was in a rush for airport so I got the tenders with collards and mashed potatoes. Oh and the lemonade is bomb too. The service was great as they were very polite and attentive. The only reason I gave atmosphere a 4 is because it's not really designed to sit in, so you might have to take out. Outside of that, really enjoyed my meal.

The best soul food I’ve had in Seattle so far. I got the shrimp with collard greens and cornbread. The shrimp was perfectly done. The prices are also really good compared to other places. Kind staff as well. The only thing is the restaurant doesn’t have that much seating room but I loved the atmosphere. Feels very homey.

I had the catfish, greens, sweet tea, and pound cake with the Plate of Nations combo. All of the items were extremely fresh and flavorful! The owner let us try some hot soul rolls while we waited and was genuinely interested in what we thought about them. I really enjoyed the delicious food and friendly atmosphere, can’t wait to come back!

This was my first time eating here, and I was truly impressed by both the food and the hospitality. The space is small and clearly designed more for pickup, but I was lucky enough to grab one of the two tables inside. After serving 20 years in the military, I’ve had the chance to travel the world and try many different cuisines. It’s hard to find authentic, delicious soul food—but this place absolutely has that feeling. I’d easily rank it in my top five. When I try a new restaurant, I like to sample as much as I can, so my wife Karen and I ordered enough food for five people… even though it was just the two of us. Everything was seasoned perfectly. The collard greens were cooked just right—not too salty and full of flavor. The chicken was tasty, well-seasoned, and not dry. The sweet potatoes were amazing, and I wish I had ordered extra to take home. The mashed potatoes and gravy were also delicious and comforting. My wife really enjoyed the oxtail soup, rice, and the catfish, which had a nice crunch and great seasoning. The only dish that wasn’t a favorite for me was the macaroni and cheese, but we still cleaned the plate! The owner was incredibly kind and even offered me a hush puppy to try—and I’m glad she did, because they were fantastic. We couldn’t finish everything, but the leftovers were just as good later that evening. I enjoyed this place so much that I left a tip larger than the cost of the meal. I appreciate small businesses that make you feel like you’re eating at a relative’s house—comfortable, welcomed, and well fed. I’ll definitely be back before I leave Seattle and head back home to Hawaii. Highly recommended!

The food was absolutely delicious – so flavorful and comforting. My personal favorite was the shrimp and grits. It was perfectly cooked, with a rich and savory sauce that made every bite unforgettable. I highly recommend this place to anyone craving authentic, mouth-watering soul food. Can't wait to come back for more!

I went and tried this place for the first time and man it was bomb I had to eat it in the car! I got the pork chop plate and they were perfectly seasoned and crispy, the chicken wings as well! My friend got the catfish and she said it was some of the best in Seattle that she's tried. The sides were delicious, I loved the collard greens and the Mac and cheese was so creamy and cheesy. The yams were good but I prefer mine a little sweeter. And the red beans and rice were good just need some type of smoked meat inside for added flavor. Overall 8.8/10. I'm highly impressed and will be back.
