"The Commissary is a small, graffiti-covered space in the center of town from the same team as The Test Kitchen and The Potluck Club. But instead of plates that were definitely constructed with tweezers, the food here can only be described as American carnival food with an Asian twist - things like barbecue pork belly with toasted coconut and deep-fried, skewered shrimp “prawn dogs.” They don’t take reservations, but you can wait for your table over beers at The House of Machines next door." - Dana Alloy

Outstanding food! Such a fun menu full of simply delicious dishes. We ordered almost everything off the menu!! Lovely wine list too. Should there be no space when you arrive just give the doorman your name and head next door for a quick drink. Check out the bathroom before you leave, super cool.

The cocktails are imaginative and we had fun choosing them: the way you select them is by sniffing packets of the ingredients (imagine tea bags but filled with various things that form the basis of the cocktail flavour - rosemary, lemon rind etc.). The flavour combination is fantastic and the story telling captures the imagination. We also enjoyed the bar snacks - simple and yum! I saw some older reviews here where the menus were not as elaborate, they must have upgraded since then.

Such an amazing gem in the city! Boyfriend and I go on regular basis because it's THAT good. He loves the lobster roll I adore the tuna sambal! Food is incredible, staff is super friendly, vibe is great! Tip: get a seat at the counter- you'll get to see the magic happen in the kitchen :)

Killer cocktails and vibe. Get a front row seat at the bar and see/heat everything being created. Well worth it.

World-class speakeasy tucked above a garage with an off-changing menu. Local ingredients, including Gin and Rooibos tea, feature heavily. Embrace the weird.

The food is absolute quality. The tapas style menu is varied and interesting, and great to share. The venue is quite small but the turnaround is quite quick so we did not have to wait long for a table. Highly recommend for a date night or with another couple. Larger groups might struggle to sit together.

OMG... One needs to go and visit the bar to totally understand the explanation.... Priceless no words to describe the place.

The best cocktail bar we have been to in Cape Town. Care is taken with the menu and the drinks. Thanks!
