Grow Local Commissary Opens at the Nashville Farmers Market | Eater Nashville

"A new shared kitchen space at the Nashville Farmers Market, the Grow Local Commissary offers rentable industrial kitchen stations and commercial-grade processing equipment to help food businesses grow their brands, goods, and ideas; designed to let farmers preserve their harvests, increase year-round access to produce, and cut food waste, it also assists entrepreneurs in developing value-added products by providing tools such as blast chillers, commercial-grade meat grinders, large meat slicers, double-stack convection ovens, dough sheeters, and 40-quart stand mixers across six available stations—users apply online via the Market House tab, and once approved can reserve time through a scheduling system." - Jill Conklin

The Commissary gives me the ability to operate a food business legally. Which is a huge deal. There are all kinds of awesome commercial equipment on site, so that you can really scale up your processes without a ton of overhead, like I would need to pay in my own place. It's a great stepping stone for those who are transitioning from Hobby to real-deal. Plus the kitchen manager is super knowledgeable and always willing to help you out in a pinch.

I have been a member of The Commissary since January 2021. What I love is the ability to use the Performance Kitchen as a venue to host catering events and special family & friends gatherings! It's a cool space! For folks like me - who are just starting out in a new food business - the experience has been invaluable. Facilities Manager Arthur is a wealth of knowledge with a vast and impressive food history! He's always ready and willing to lend a hand, especially to this newbie! And, I cannot say enough great things about Marketing Manager, Hanna! She is an absolute delight and has garnered praise from my customers and friends. Bethany Baller Donoghue Low Carbolicious! LLC

This fabulous demo kitchen was utilized for a brainery course on knife skills. Although I am very handy in the kitchen I learned some new techniques and made some new friends. The course was great and the Commissary is a fabulous resource for the Rochester food and restaurant scene.

As a B2B company, it doesn’t get much better than the Commissary with its multiple kitchen stations and a variety or equipment to use. The building is in the heart of Rochester and already helping so many businesses in need of a licensed kitchen. I love the locked food and personal equipment storage cages and that they’re all on wheels for easy mobility. It’s also very spacious and allows a multitude of different businesses working in the same area at the same time. Each station and piece of communal equipment can be signed up for and rented to gain formal access. If you’re looking for a licensed kitchen to rent for your businesses use in Rochester NY, the search is over, you’ve found the Commissary!

I hosted an event at The Commissary that was highly successful. This unique space was perfect for an open, networking reception and allowed infinite space in a nice setting. It was also a great tool to engage people at the event to see the space and get a tour of the kitchen. The Commissary is an amazing local food incubator that gives people the support and opportunity to start and grow their own business. I highly recommend trying the food at the Commissary and supporting their work! Worth stopping by the next time you are in downtown rochester!

Yelp
I've been here many times and can't believe I never wrote a review so here you go! This space is a bit of an incubator for chefs and makers who need a kitchen but aren't yet ready for a traditional restaurant setup. Outside, there are also a few restaurants and food spots. The Brainery hosts many of its food classes here. It's not a huge space, but it works perfectly for hands-on learning like pasta-making classes. Christina, the usual instructor, is excellent and always makes it fun. My only gripe is figuring out how to leave after 8 p.m.....it can be confusing which exit to take. Parking can also be a little tricky, but luckily I live nearby, so drop-off and pickup are easy for me. For most people, street parking, the lot, or rideshare will be the best bet.

Yelp
I never even know this place existed. Ran in to it last weekend for St Patrick's Day Parade, What a great place to meet up with friends for either a drink at the bar, some food/snacks, or some yummy coffee! I'll be back again next month for a birthday party too.

Yelp
As a customer, I found this place super unprofessional. The management here is extremely rude to customers and it's a shame because it thwarts the efforts of the up-and-coming small businesses who are just trying to make it and actually pay this venue to help them. If you're a business owner considering paying this place for membership please reconsider because they have really awful bedside manor and will run your customers off with an attitude and make them feel unwelcomed. I wish the businesses working out of this place the best since the building it is housed in already does not get a lot of foot traffic so treating customers like trash is just the cherry on top, I suppose.
