Twin Cities Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know, September 2025 | Eater Twin Cities

"A 1920s-era landmark once frequented by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this historic spot has reopened after a five-year closure, starting with a snack menu and drinks on Thursday through Sunday nights before expanding in November with a full menu, longer hours, live entertainment, and eventually weekend brunch." - Jeffy Mai

Definitely a pricy splurge. The atmosphere is totally worth it, though! The wifi password is...clever. Myrna Loy will give you the side-eye in the gents' if you're not careful. I really hope they iron out the kinks in the kitchen, it took an hour to go from apps to mains for some reason.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 Experience – A Perfect Venue with Exceptional Service! We cannot say enough wonderful things about The Commodore Restaurant in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This was our second time using this stunning location for wedding photography, and once again, it exceeded all expectations. The timeless, Gatsby-style elegance and historic charm of the venue provided the perfect backdrop for our special day — the ambience alone is worth the visit! A very special thank you goes to Lydia, the on-site coordinator, whose professionalism and attention to detail made everything seamless. From our very first interaction, Lydia was incredibly prompt, thorough, and kind — she truly understood our needs and went above and beyond to accommodate us. She made the process of securing the location easy and stress-free, even offering suggestions to help us make the most of the space. And to top it all off, the team surprised our wedding party with a complimentary bottle of champagne — such a thoughtful and classy touch that made us feel truly celebrated and welcomed. We wholeheartedly recommend The Commodore to anyone looking for a rich, elegant, and dapper venue for photos or events. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, this place continues to impress. Thank you, Commodore, and especially Lydia — you helped make our wedding day unforgettable!

Went for our anniversary dinner and had a great time. We'd never been and heard good things from the reviews and gave this place a shot. Our server Jody was attentive and gave a great drink recommendation. We had the ribeye and a couple or mixed drinks. Wow! Everything was fantastic! Can't wait to come back and try something new!

Our inaugural visit to this establishment was unfortunately marred by several shortcomings, vs what we had read in previous posts Despite the challenges, we managed to experience a ok dining experience on an off night. Our waiter, who boasts 26 years of industry experience didn’t seem perform at said level of experience Our order consisted of: - Two salads - One onion soup - One scallops with butternut squash risotto - One herb chicken - One bottle of Cava - One bottle of Heineken Zero The initial issue arose when our waiter inaccurately recorded our order. However, I will elaborate on this matter later. Upon receiving the bottle of Cava, the waiter negligently left it on the table without an ice bucket or chiller. Consequently, the beverage became warm by the time it reached the back half of the bottle. When my French onion soup arrived, it was disappointingly underwhelming. Unlike other restaurants where the steaming hot cheese cascades over the bowl, this soup lacked the expected presentation. It appeared as if a Cristini had been dropped into a bowl, accompanied by some liquid and cheese. The flavor profile also deviated from my expectations. The salads, both of which were served in generous portions, were both delicious and healthy. Our main course, the herb chicken, was cooked to perfection and had a delightful flavor. However, our waiter mistakenly delivered halibut instead of scallops to my wife’s order. Consequently, he returned the halibut and, by the time her new order was served, my food had cooled significantly. Despite this setback, I prioritized enjoying the meal with my wife. In retrospect, I believe the herb chicken could have been an exceptional dish when served hot. Regrettably, due to the kitchen’s apparent rush, my wife’s scallops were overcooked, resembling rubber, while the risotto was undercooked. At this juncture, we concluded our meal and were hesitant to indulge in dessert. However, we did so. We opted for the black forest cake, which may have been an unsuccessful culinary endeavor. It appeared that half of the cake was cooked or baked to the desired level, while the other half was not. Consequently, we decided to end our evening with disappointment in both the service and the meal. Nevertheless, the ambiance of the physical building and its rich history were absolutely stunning and wonderful. Our hope is that if we visit again in six months, the kitchen issues will have been resolved, and the service will have improved.

Very cool ambiance, like stepping into the 1930s. Excellent old fashioned and bee’s knees martini and cheese curds were great. Service was friendly, however still working out the bugs on timing as it’s only the second day of their soft opening. Parking is limited but easy to find street parking.

Great cocktails, beautiful space. Really happy to see this neighborhood gem busy on the holiday weekend. Signature drinks and classics were all spot on. Looking forward to a return visit to try the food.

Beautiful place. One of the best things I tried on the menu was the cheese curds. My husband and I had been here before they closed, so we were happy to hear they reopened, but unfortunately it didn’t meet our expectations this time. I ordered the halibut fish, and it was very dry. I tried my husband’s chicken—it was good, but a bit too salty for my taste. Other people in our group also didn’t enjoy their food. drinks were good!!

We decided to treat our son and daughter in law to a fine restaurant on January 2. The atmosphere was elegant and the waiter charming. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. After our drinks we ordered salads and entrees. After about 45 minutes our entrees arrived. We told our server we had not received our salads or appetizer. He, and the waiter both apologized ,and at our request removed the salad order but kept the appetizer that came 10 minutes after the entree. (I was certain they would offer a comp of some kind but did not). Of the entrees 2 were good, the chicken and eggplant parmigiana, 2 were not great, the halibut and risotto dish. Unfortunately the creme brûlée we ordered for dessert tasted more like scrambled eggs with a candy coating than a good brûlée which should taste creamy. Sadly, we will not be returning soon. Although the atmosphere was very nice, the service was subpar, at best.
