"A stumble away from Clapham Common tube station, Common is a cosy cafe and one-stop shop whether you come during the day or evening. It’s ideal for tapping away on your laptop for a few hours during the week (hot tip: the plug points are towards the back and the front corner), for a quick post-work cocktail (it’s open until 9pm every day), or gossiping over toasted banana bread at the weekend. But our favourite time of day is the afternoon, when sunlight floods the airy space and terrace tables out front. Plus, if you’re enamoured with the trinkets on display, like pretty vases and bamboo trays, you can likely buy it from their in-house boutique. See, we said it was a one-stop shop. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Daisy Meager

I was amazed by the lemon tartar! It was light and airy, with a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors. The hint of freshness made it even more delicious. A truly delightful treat!

Had THE BEST breakfast AGAIN today with my cousin at my FAVE place- The Common! Not only is the food delicious but it's so beautifully presented. The service is great and the atmosphere is very pleasant. A great Bay Ridge breakfast & lunch place!

Dined here for the first time whilst vacationing in Brooklyn. Great, hearty food, excellent customer service and a gem of a service from Jen! Highly recommended.

Google
Food is delicious. Came back 2nd day in a roll. I’m never a pancake person but man, I love the pancake!! Service is great! Many choices to choose from!

Google
My partner and I walked into milk & honey and the place looked like a crowded college library cafe. We walked right the hell out. I searched up brunch spots near me and see that The Common was conveniently right door next to it! We decided to give it a shot. I was blown the heck away!!! This is a lowkey brunch spot with BANGING food and nice welcoming people. Our dishes were very effortful and delicious. We had the skillet pancake, Croast and the Reuben toast and wow! 🤤

Roxy Ho

Google
The food is so good. Their seasoning is on point, while the eggs are still running and cooked to perfection. We will have to come back and try more items on the menu. The place is usually packed on the weekend, but there’s no line on weekdays.

Google
The place gives a rustic and home vibe and I love it! The staff were really friendly and welcoming. I went twice in a week and one of the staff remembered me and was so happy to see me back. The fries are to die for!!! The menu has a great selection and I would love to try everything on the menu in the future.

Yelp
I'm shocked and appalled I haven't been here sooner! When my husband suggested we come to the Common for breakfast during our stay-cation, I was 1) surprised he picked a place and 2) that none of my friends had already recommended we give this place a try. We did however make the mistake of not making reservations before coming on a Wednesday morning after 10AM and know better for next time. Their menu is very unique with bold flavors and it worth a thorough look over before sitting down. Make the most of your wait time and really read it over, and ask if they are also serving lunch as well, which will further confuse you in your decision-making process. After looking at their pictures here on Yelp, I was firmly decided on their caramel hot latte while my hubby wanted to try their iced pistachio coffee. To me, my caramel latte was a the clear winner when it not only came to presentation, but the TASTE as well! Delicious down to the last sip! I tried to lick the inside of the mug once or twice, but didn't want to further endure the looks my husband was giving me across the table. For the main entree, I decided on their Croast, which is fairly new to their menu. This is a croissant with a poached egg on to, smothered in a cream mushroom sauce - what's not to love?!? This dish was fabulous! The depth of flavor and savoriness far exceeded my expectations of the portion. The portion isn't huge for a reason, and allows you to take in every taste your tastebuds can offer. My husband's breakfast sandwich was simple and yet packed a surprising punch with their bacon jam. This is a sandwich not to sleep on! From the staff to the vibe to the food and their other patrons, this place is a much needed gem; support local and get your breakfast here!

Yelp
Tried this place from a recommendation from my cousin. Staff very friendly and attentive. My brother ordered the croast and I ordered the grilled breakfast naan. Both were very good. Wait was 20 mins so we decided to walk around the neighborhood and they called us when the table was ready. Very good service all around.

Jessica K.

Yelp
Very good breakfast/lunch spot. The food was AMAZING and the quantity was very good too. Price point is very fair and quality of the food is spectacular. Additionally the atmosphere is very cute and the service is great. Highly recommend checking out if you are in the area.

Yelp
Me and my husband love to visit this small cozy place. Sometimes with friends too. we usually go there on weekends for brunch. they are always busy and you have to wait a little but it's worth it. Staff is always friendly and nice, food delicious, pricing fare. it's our to go place. try it you won't regret it

Yelp
Originally, we were going to a diner but the prices were higher than we'd like and upon looking at the menu here, we thought the price was reasonable and the dishes looked good. We had the in a skillet- three poached eggs in sweet chili sauce with onion, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, cotija cheese, sour cream & grilled pita ($17). The description sold me on the dish. I found it to have a great acidic flavor and I think it was just missing a savory salty piece to the dish. I would've ordered a side of something to go with it. I wanted to try the sausage and grits. Upon sitting down, it wasn't on the menu so I had a delicious Croast ($15). it worked really well together. With the first bite I had a zesty acidic arugula, warm croissant, with flavorful mushroom and sauce. The truffle tapenade wasn't really needed or made enough of an impact. We'd definitely come back and try their other dishes. The place is small and gets packed really quickly. We got there shortly after 8 AM on a Sunday and it was already filled with local. I would recommend parties of 1 to a max of 4. It's a great local spot to have a nice hot breakfast.

Asif I.

Yelp
Food was good, The service was incredible!! The atmosphere was coffee shop meets diner with an excellent music selection

Trevor M.

Yelp
I have never been so sweaty while eating brunch. It was very warm inside the restaurant when I went. It wasn't too crowded when I was there, but we were waiting for the check for a bit after we finished. What really matters is that the food was served hot and fresh and the portions were pretty good for the price. An enjoyable brunch spot overall.

Rachel V.

Yelp
Found this restaurant when looking for a good brunch spot and it didn't disappoint. The parking in the area is really difficult especially on weekend mornings so fellow drivers beware. You will be circling for a while. Weekend brunch always has a wait, but typically not very long, maximum 40 minutes. The food is really delicious and they have an open kitchen concept so you can see your food being made. The interior is small but not claustrophobic small. They have great iced lattes and I always get one whenever I dine in. Their food is prepared well and portioned nicely. I really enjoy coming here with my friends, and my husband and I love coming here for a brunch date every once in a while. We can't wait to bring our young son here when he's old enough. The staff are friendly and kind, they keep the pace of diners moving along and are attentive. You can tell they enjoy their job which is rare in customer facing jobs, speaking from experience. Kudos to this restaurant, it's a great place to eat and seems just as lovely to work there. Highly recommend coming here for brunch, breakfast, and lunch!! They also have a bathroom in the rear of the restaurant, and it was comfortable and spacious enough to use even when I was 9 months pregnant so that's a big bonus!

Angelique C.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service with kind attentive staff. Upbeat music and clean space

Ashley T.

Yelp
First time at the common for brunch, it was not too bad actually. The portion was good for the price and the food tasted good. My favorite out of all the dishes was the chicken live mousse, if your taste buds allow you to, TRY IT! All the dishes will be in the videos, sorry I can't remember all the names! The service is friendly and quick! And I really like the vibes here, please note this place is small, so, there will be a wait since they do get busy. Happy eating :)

Liza B.

Yelp
Loved the eggs Benedict! Sooooo delicious, a perfect brunch. The chef brought out the food, and I thought that was so cool. This place is so popular, that they had a waiting list for lunch. Luckily, I was there just before lunch so I had no wait. Nice decor too.

C S.

Yelp
Really wish I understood the hype for this place. It's good. It's not the best breakfast, best lunch or brunch. It's yummy. It's a tight squeeze at all the tables. It always has a wait. Not sure why. The Spanish potatoes are delicious and they serve a good cup of coffee.

Leslie D.

Yelp
I finally made it in for a late brunch, I've tried a couple times but since they close at 3:30 I kept missing it. I got a grain bowl with some veggies and sunny side up eggs. I did ask for yogurt on the side to add in because it was a bit dry but once I did that It was perfect. The yogurt that came with the potatoes was delicious and I couldn't get enough. It's definitely the best option for an appetizer or a side to split with a friend. My friend loved her breakfast as well and we'll for sure be back. It was super well priced as well which was great.

Vicky L.

Yelp
First time getting brunch around the neighborhood. Had to write my name and number down and wait for at least 30 min outside. There are two benches outside for the people waiting. There is limited seating so I can see why the wait was so long. When I tried to follow up on an estimated time the server was really rude and kept saying you just gotta wait and barely even wanted to speak to me. I understand he's busy but I was only asking out of curiosity how much longer. Even when we sat down it took them a long time to give us water and the menu and was not attentive. Besides the bad customer service, I really did enjoy the food. I got the Inside Out Truffle Bun Plate and my friend got the Grilled Chorizo Skillet. Also got the S'mores French toast to share. All dishes were very delicious and good portions. Would definitely come back and try their other items on the menu!

Bill H.

Yelp
The food is pretty good and the place is real quaint. When the two of us were handed the check we were amazed at the cost for breakfast and another time for lunch it was pretty high. 3 stars is fair. Service ok Food ok Atmosphere pleasant Small very limited seating and counter space.

Jonathan F.

Yelp
This spot is my wife and I's favorite breakfast spot in the neighborhood. I breakfast is absolutely delicious and the French toast is probably the best in all of NYC. My only complaint is I wish this place was bigger because it's always busy especially on the weekends.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Pegasus? Or Common? Pegasus? Or Common? Pegasus takes only cash. Common takes cash, and credit. Pegasus has a more family friendly feel to it, despite an eclectic menu. Common takes a more hipster approach, along with a hipster menu. Pegasus has various, diner-like options Common has a Sunday brunch feel to it. Pegasus has food that will satisfy your cravings. Common has food that will have you burping it up for hours. Pegasus has milkshakes. Common has alcohol (Pegasus does too). Pegasus opens later. Common closes earlier. Pegasus? Or Common? Pegasus? Or Common? It really is a toss-up.

Yelp
No wait when I went on a Friday afternoon. There were 4 other tables full of people and they seemed to be locals. We sat in the middle and I think the staff assigned to us was crouched down working, so we weren't in their line of sight most of the time. With that being said, we weren't really given the good service that others in the reviews mentioned. It was hard to flag someone down to ask for stuff (e.g., add an appetizer/another glass of water). The skillet pancake looked really interesting so I got that. The frosting or sauce on top + the crumbles gave the pancake it's flavor. Otherwise it was really cakey and there was a burnt taste at times if I didn't get any of the frosting or crumbles to cover up that taste. The appetizer was mid, I don't think the flavors went well together. The green sauce didn't help it at all.

George G.

Yelp
Decided the COBB SALAD today . The portion was just right. The tomato soup today was bit on the salty side, but still delicious. Only take back was , I would of liked more dressing on my salad. So asked for bit more and daddy was happy .

Christian C.

Yelp
A local brunch favorite for us. The eats are consistently delicious. The hummus is some of the smoothest that I've had and the Spanish potatoes are a must - crispy and perfectly salted. Today I tried something different, Pastrami Hash and Egg. It was really delicious. I've yet to try anything that wasn't delicious. The staff is also friendly and patient. So far, the only con is that the place is small so there's usually a wait, but the food is totally worth it.

Suzie L.

Yelp
The food is soooooo good! There was about a 20-minute wait where they took your name and phone number to call you when your table is ready. The food was worth the wait! So delicious and filling. The wait staff were really nice and welcoming. The restaurant is pretty small, so they were always close by to help. There is an open kitchen so you can see everything being cooked in real time in front of you, so everything smells amazing! Would definitely visit to try all the other items on the menu

Kneenoshhka G.

Yelp
I've been trying to come here since I moved to the neighborhood (3 years), and it was definitely worth the wait. Soo, the place IS tiny but roomy at the same time. The staff are nice. Because the place is small, it can't seelat a lot of ppl so be prepared to wait - and they close early (4PM) Since I can't and/or don't want to risk eating eggs in public (not officially allergic but it makes my stomach feel bad), I got the chicken and waffles w/hot syrup (I want to say it's maple) with an order of peach mango mint ice tea sweetened with simple syrup. Lisssseeennnn - soo good! Can't wait to go back and try other stuff on the menu

Yelp
The Common has been a Sunday morning staple for the Man and I. Absolutely every Sunday morning, we walk to The Common to be happily greeted by Ivan & Nino. We pick a table, sip our cucumber/lemon water (so refreshing first thing in the morning), and peruse the menu in search of something we haven't new to try, that we haven't ordered, yet. And some of it may seem...unusual... I promise you; Trust them. Trust their skill. Hummus is smooth and rich - enjoyable any time of day. Chicken Liver Mousse with honey and pickled mustard seeds - Another rich, buttery textured dish. That decadence is "cut" with a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of pickled mustard seeds. Chips & Dip includes smoked salmon, scallions & creme fraiche dip coupled with homemade pomme frites heavily dusted with parmesan. Smashed Young Potato with romesco, pesto, tomato jam, and sprinkle parmesan - Slap-Ya-Mama-Good. I want to mention one thing about the majority of the main dishes; they'll probably come with a "digestive" salad. The Common's salads consist of a bracing, crisp spring mix of greens and a light vinaigrette. You might be thinking "I'm ordering fuckin' Breakfast - Salad with my Eggs?" ... I'm telling you... YES! Trust their Food! The Avocado Breakfast burrito is a sure bet; they never over-cook the eggs. Pillow-soft interior with an abundance of cheese and a generous serving of avocado. Inside Out Truffle Bun - just as heavenly. Salmon Scramble is one of the Man's fav's. French (soft) scrambled eggs served on fresh Lox with roasted potatoes. He's ordered that probably four times. Pulled Pork Bowl - another one of his favorites. Some type of Quinoa mix with poached egg, avocado, and pulled pork; I tried it and it was heavenly. The Granola Bowl with yogurt, honey, lemon confit, and berries, I've ordered twice and both times, it's been divine. I could rave about this restaurant; the staff, the ambiance, the service and of course, their dishes... until I'm knees-deep in the grave. The Common is not a place you should pass by.

Robert G.

Yelp
This place is bussin. Great service, food and atmosphere at a reasonable price. Im from Miami and rarely experience overall great service for the price. 10/10

Arthur A.

Yelp
This place deserves five stars. I've never had a dish here that I regretted ordering. The staff are all really nice. Place is clean. Small with an open-kitchen setup. When I first reviewed this place, I noted there were a lot of coffee grounds but now I don't see them. I'm particularly a fan of their Latin breakfast and their chicken and waffles. But really, everything I've had there is excellent.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Came here multiple times and food has always been great. I don't think I've had a bad meal here once. The fries are always my favorite. All their burgers are amazing and their breakfast selection is spot on!

Keilah J.

Yelp
Our food was outstanding. Def worth the travel. Portion sizes are small for the price, but the taste somewhat makes up for it. I even tried a avocado smoothie, which was so yummy!!! We had the The smoked salmon avocado toast (I got a side of pesto - which helped a lot!) The Skillet Pancake The Cheesy Grits and Sausage. Service was a bit delayed, but they were doing several things at once. It feels like a homey place that you could go to with friends, def not fancy which is nice for brunch sometimes.

Kio C.

Yelp
Came back to try out some of the new menu items and I am blown away. The fried chicken sandwich is delicious. The fried chicken and waffles is also yummy. I also got the yogurt smoothie and it was definitely not sweetened so if you're looking for a healthy drink that's it. Weekend wait times are usually 30 minutes to an hour. Come earlier or later if you want to avoid the wait time. Their hours are 8AM to 3:30PM.

Mary K.

Yelp
The ambience of this restaurant was great! I was in the area and had seen good reviews for this place. The person who served us seemed to be the owner, and he was very nice. The food was out quickly and tasted great. The portions weren't enormous which was honestly fine. I'd recommend this place to anyone who's in the area looking for a quick bite to eat!

Marya B.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. A nice local place that's casual but serves high quality food. Our service was great as well.

Doris C.

Yelp
Coming here was a pleasant reminder of what good food and service is like., I would hands down come here again. We stopped by on New Year's Eve, a little after 9am and most of the tables were taken; I think there were 4 four tops and 3 two tops. Of you have a kiddo, I did see a high chair. I love that they offer lunch at breakfast! I don't get to go out for dinner anymore because my toddler would have a meltdown and no one needs that at dinner, but it does make it difficult for me to have a nice meal out. We ordered: - Chicken liver mousse; I would order this a million times over. I love chicken liver mousse and this is one of the best I've had. I do wish there were a few more pieces of naan though. - three egg skillet with sausage; I think this was a sleeper hit. Eggs were well cooked and the hash with spinach and mushrooms were solidly flavorful. The sausage on the other hand, was a bit mediocre and nothing special though. - chicken and cheddar stuffed waffle: Chicken was super crunchy (maybe a touch dry), and the waffle was light and crispy on the outside. Downside was that I didn't taste the cheddar. - chicken schnitzel; pretty much the same as the chicken on the waffle and it has the same hash as the skillet. I would absolutely come again as most dishes were at least good, if not amazing.

Y. C.

Yelp
Came in for breakfast. Muggy day and the AC was doing nothing as the kitchen is right in the middle of the restaurant so it was hot and uncomfortable. Our server (which is the only reason I'm giving two stars because she was very sweet) brought us all water, which she failed to mention had lemon in it. I have a citrus allergy so it's a good thing I didn't drink any. Ordered the cold brew which tasted bitter and sour. Ordered the pastrami hash and eggs. The eggs were half raw, the pastrami was cubed and rubbery, and I'm sorry but corn does not go with hash. The potatoes were nice at least. Also, this came with a salad that had some sort of dressing on it that I was told was fruity. Again, allergies not taken into consideration which is a huge problem. Sadly I had to come home and make myself breakfast.

Amy N.

Yelp
Worth the wait, though it was a long wait time at 10am on a chilly Sunday morning. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. I just love days when my kids randomly orders items on the menu 'cause these are the dishes that tend to surprise me. Surprised dishes of the day: 1. Grilled Breakfast Naan - my favorite, simple toasted Naan with brie cheese, pesto, greens, ripe avocado topped with sunny egg and finished off with a drizzle of honey. 2. Pancake Skillet - thick fluffy cake baked in a cast iron pan and served right out of the oven. Sweet cinnamon crumble with condensed milk was the perfect touch. Ordered this to share for the table. Other plates we ordered were just as good, need to also try their pistachio latte! Recommend this cozy spot to locals, and to those who are willing to travel for a good cup of Joe like myself.

Nella B.

Yelp
I took my friend for her birthday breakfast here last weekend. This place is anything but common. Lol. Very nice menu with very different options than your normal breakfast brunch place. Even though it's only 9 AM we had to leave our name and number and wait for a table it was that busy. Service was great. Food was great with DEF go back to try some more things.

Gipsy T.

Yelp
Left so so satisfied!!! Our waitress was really attentive to us and kept making sure we had everything we needed. I love the customer service over here they're always so sweet!! The quality of food is delicious never disappointed when I come here. I arrived around 12:23pm and it was not busy at all so that was great! It does get busy in the mornings sometimes but it's such a great spot. I recommend The Common over Pegasus any day .

Nicholas W.

Yelp
My go to breakfast spot. Their chicken liver mousse is to die for! I also really enjoy their eggs benny.

M A.

Yelp
Really enjoy coming here! They get crowded quickly but worth the wait! We really enjoyed our selections! Their food was fresh and flavorful. We had the skillet pancake, French toast sandwich and hash browns. I loved my hot spiced mint tea!

Alex C.

Yelp
Pretty decent brunch and the service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is cute and cozy and the food was good too. The portions are not old school brunch breakfast sized but it's enough for a healthier portion. Check it out if you're in the area!

Wendy Y.

Yelp
I was having trouble finding a place with many vegetarian options for my friend and was about to give up when I stumbled upon the Common on Yelp. I was instantly hooked on the expansive menu with diverse and appealing options. I'd recommend making a reservation since the restaurant is on the smaller side, and very popular. We arrived around noon on a weekday and waited 40 minutes for a table. The kitchen here is open concept so it was a little warm inside. Since we were there around 1PM, we had the option of ordering from both the breakfast and lunch menus. I browsed the options and saw so many good ones: salmon scramble w/ roasted potatoes, pickled onion, and salad, S'more french toast, and a truffle bun with truffle aioli. I loved how there were so many different flavors and seasonings used in each recipe. I ordered a pistachio latte and the Pastrami plate with sunny side up eggs, roasted potatoes, and a side salad. The latte was strong and smooth. The breakfast plate so well balanced, between the fatty, meaty flavor of the pastrami, the lightly cooked potatoes, and the slight sour of the arugula salad with balsamic. It's a great option if you're looking for a filling meal with different components, one that's not too greasy or unhealthy. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back here next time to order a few things to try with friends!

Joanna C.

Yelp
Great food and service. Eggs are fresh. All food is cooked at the time of ordering. The tartar sauce that goes with the fish and chips is delicious. Fries are crispy. Bread on the sandwiches is hearty and I think they make fresh pasta. If not, it tastes like it. Highly recommended. Open for breakfast and lunch. I believe they close at 3 pm. Enjoy!

Crystal L.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here, portion sizes (All of us had left overs), and the service. Came here on Sunday around 11 ish and we had a 30 min wait for a party of 4. The place isn't that big but it gets busy. We ordered the waffle with chicken (favorite dish), Pastrami Grilled cheese, skillet with Poached eggs and sweet chili sauce (asked for sausage to be added), and chips and dip to share (the dip is some sort of salmon dip, which is interesting, and the chips are homemade chips which are really good).

Michelle T.

Yelp
Very cute brunch spot, limited in tables so be sure to wait on the weekends. The skillet was amazing and the chicken and waffle was crispy. We also ordered an Asian Nashville chicken that was so delicious. I wished I had bread or rice to drench into the delicious sauce. Cappuccino is on point. Highly recommend this place for a nice brunch spot.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Delicious brunch! Had to wait about 15 minutes on a Saturday morning, but that's to be expected in a small place. Staff were very nice. We had the skillet brunch options which were very tasty.

Arantxa P.

Yelp
Delicious brunch and wonderful staff. Absolutely worth the wait. A new neighborhood favorite!

Bob O.

Yelp
Love The Common. Delicious food, been here many times now and the food is always excellent. The service is always great and pleasant. The tables are nicely spaces so you never feel jammed up against other people. I will always recommend The Common to friends as a great place for breakfast for lunch for great food and value.

Fred P.

Yelp
I didn't expect to like this place too much - sounded a bit overly trendy. After two visits I'd say - not so. Excellent food, very clean. Service OK. Not exactly a cheap lunch, but you have to pay for quality.....

Marisa L.

Yelp
There will always be a wait because the place is very small, but it will always be worth it. Each time I've been it's been between 20 and 30 minutes, but sometimes a little bit shorter. How do I I've only been here twice now, but I've been really impressed with everything. Even their water is infused with cucumber and citrus. They have an incredibly interesting array of menu items, spanning different cultures, and including savory and sweet options. The grits were delicious, although they came with sausage and not shrimp, which would have been my preference. I really enjoyed the girls breakfast on which was a light breakfast sandwich with cheese, spinach, avocado, and an egg. They offer a pistachio latte. I love this place and went back several times within a few weeks.

Steven S.

Yelp
Thank god for this place! Caro just moved back to Bay Ridge right off Shore Road and we can walk to this spot in 5 minutes. I love their brunch menu which includes a bodacious bologna sandwich with egg and pickles onnit; and the crispy potato tart with smoked salmon is a true culinary masterpiece. Makes smothered and covered Hashbrowns from Waffle House look like smattered and battered roadkill. But my favorite item on the menu that I've tried so far is the Fish Samdwich. Best fish sammy this side of the Brooklyn Bridge. They do not serve alcohol but that's not worth losing a star over. Highly recommended.

Jessica K.

Yelp
I went here to get my saturday morning brunch. My overall impression is pretty good local spot to have brunch with friends. Price: 5 stars. Fraction of cost compared to Manhattan. Service: 5stars. Better service than many of michelin starred restaurants. New york is notorious for not giving a good customer service right? Food: 2.5 stars. I wouldnt go here just for the food. It was okay.
