The Best Galette des Rois in London for Epiphany Cake Celebrations - Eater London

"The Connaught’s annual tradition of celebrating the feast of the Epiphany with optically dazzling Galette des Rois just got more exclusive. This year’s hidden fève — a small charm inside each galette — takes the form of 8 collectable porcelain Connaught hounds, in colours inspired by the pastries that adorn its patisserie counter. Alongside the traditional Galette des Rois, comprised of ecstatically crunchy, buttery puff pastry wrapped around a filling of almond frangipane and vanilla curd, Nicolas Rouzaud and team are also baking the Provencal speciality of Brioche des Rois. Rarely found outside the region, this super-soft enriched brioche ring adorned with crystallised sugar and candied fruits, to resemble a bejewelled crown, is similar to the Spanish Roscôn de Reyes. It offers a welcome change to the all-conquering, frangipane-filled social media behemoth of the GdR." - Emma Louise Pudge

Considered one of Europe’s top Pâtissiers a stop at the historic Connaught allows guests an opportunity to taste the work of Nicolas Rouzaud, his eponymous Patisserie with its own entrance just off of Mount Street. Accustomed to well-heeled clientele, £14 per Pastry to take out and £17 to dine on-site steep by even London standards, it is surrounded by subtly-pink walls that guests are invited to indulge in seasonal favorites such as fruit during the summer or Chocolate-Hazelnut “Hound.” Visited after dark in November, just three options available alongside Tea or Coffee, Rouzaud’s “St. Honore” comes in the form of a Puff Pastry Tart filled with Caramel Cream with slick Vanilla topping while the Pecan Tart places toasted Nuts around creamy Chocolate Mousse covered by Glaze.

Nicolas Rouzaud at The Connaught is a beautiful patisserie experience in the heart of Mayfair. The pastries are exquisitely crafted, balancing classic French technique with refined, seasonal flavours. Everything looks as good as it tastes delicate, elegant, and never overly sweet. The setting is chic and luxurious, and the coffee pairs perfectly with the desserts. Prices are premium, as expected for the location, but the quality and attention to detail make it well worth a visit for a special treat.

I’d recommend the signature NR vanilla pecan cake and the pistachio Paris Brest, both have strong nutty flavours, complicated layers of flavours and textures, for that I think it’s worth the price. However I do think they’re both overly sweet for my taste, I wonder if they can make it less sweet if I were to pre-order the bigger version? For the fig tart and raspberry tart, they both taste good, fresh ingredients and not too sweet, but they simply aren’t as impressive as the other two. You can get the same quality fruit tart from other good bakery for half the price. Pain au chocolat, yes worth trying Madeline, average, pass

One of my favourite bakeries in London! The hot chocolate is rich and delicious and every pastry has its own amazing and unique flavour. You can really taste the quality in everything they make. I always look forward to coming back whenever I’m in the area. The only downside is the limited seating, so it can be tricky to get a table, especially on weekends.

The Connaught Patisserie is basically what heaven smells like — butter, sugar, and pure happiness. I walked in “just to look,” and five pastries later, I walked out a better (and slightly heavier) person. The pastries are so pretty you almost feel bad eating them… almost. The staff are lovely, the coffee is smooth, and the pink decor makes you feel like you’ve stepped straight into a dream where calories don’t count. 11/10 – would gladly ruin my diet again here.

Absolutely the most amazing patisserie ever! Only thing is they don’t have a time limit and is full of people from the gulf who sit there for hours on end! There needs to be a time like of 45 mins max

The café is quite average and not very unique, though the tart was tasty. The place is small, the staff are friendly, and the service is quick. The prices, however, are extremely high.

Beuatiful art and also very delicious! Best sweets from the 4 we tried in London (Grolet, Robuchon, Adria, Rouzaud)
