We celebrated birthday here. Great food and wine selection. Service was great too. We had grilled octopus along with tomahawk steak to share between 3. My son had steak and fries which he loved too. Deserts were great too. Highly recommend.

Juan was very knowledgeable. Best burrata I’ve ever had. Steak Frites are to die for. Pineapple Upside down cake not to be missed. Great Jazz band called BC Jazz Now played lovely atmospheric music that added to the dining.

Our new favorite spot... not just in midtown, but one the island of Manhattan. Their Happy hour is a happy hour that's actually worth it. Phenomenal cocktails until 6:30pm during the weekday and each one dripping with quality. I've never had a better cocktail at a $13 pricetag and I've had them coast to coast in some of the finest restaurants, including french restaurants like Le Diplomat in DC and Parq in Philly. Caesar was kind, quick, and eager to serve us during our special celebration. We so appreciated him. Saqueo and Helder were incredible servers as well and treated the table like we were at a 5 star steakhouse. I dropped a steak knife and before I could blinked it was picked up and replaced. Our hostess was also so kind, patient, and connected with our 2 YO daughter. Everything we ate from sushi, to the duck was absolutely top notch quality and presentation. The $11 happy hour escargot was the best I've ever had with a quality of snail that takes on flavor as it should, tender, savory. And the ambiance is truly breathtaking from the moment you enter with the curved staircase to the top floor with the incredible brick and wood covered walls. And I assure you they did not pay me to write this review but I will give another huge recommendation as they are part of the in kind app and you qualify for 20% cash back on your purchase as well as qualify for special discounts. We will be back anytime we visit because they truly set a great standard for a date night in any city.

First and foremost, the best thing about this place is the service. From the moment you come in, they really take care of you. They are amazing and professional! I had the pleasure of being served by Andres, whom I found out afterwards was only in his first day! He was really amazing and is someone with a good and respectful attitude! The food: the food was exquisite. I started off with the French Onion Soup which was super cozy and delicious. The ribeye steak was to die for! The meat was cooked to my liking and was super juicy. I also had The Consulate Pesto which was very green-y and indulging. And finally, capping everything with a Nutella Tiramisu which was a perfect way to end the night! Everything was perfect! Glad I’ve booked this as a Resy Global Dining Member!

I had such a lovely experience here. I came in with my three-month-old puppy in a small carrier, and the staff handled everything with perfect balance — polite, calm, and professional. They didn’t make a big scene about my dog, but they also didn’t make us feel unwelcome. It felt respectful and natural. I truly appreciated that no unnecessary attention was drawn to my puppy. I understand the importance of boundaries and proper behavior in public spaces, and I simply wanted to enjoy a quiet meal. The atmosphere was relaxed, the people were kind, and my puppy didn’t disturb anyone at all. The food was absolutely delicious, the vibe was warm and inviting, and the whole experience felt effortless and comfortable. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Juan was a great server, always keeping my water and wine glass full. The bone marrow stole the show, fantastic in every way, followed closely by the French onion soup- with deep umami. The octopus and maitake were also excellent matched with a perfect drinking St. Emilion. Great service, great food, great wine.

We decided go to The Consulate for lunch before going on a walking tour a few blocks away. I've always wanted to try a Croque Madame and The Consulate dit not disappoint! The egg was cooked perfectly, the béchamel sauce was smooth and very tasty, the brioche was buttery and crisp around the edges, the ham front and center/very good and the side salad was dressed just right! I also ordered the French Onion Soup and can honestly say it was the best that I've had from any restaurant EVER. The service from the time we entered the restaurant to leaving was outstanding. The servers were patient, knew the menu top to bottom and were very attentive. The atmpsphere from the lighting to music gave the place a chill vibe and the whole experience was relaxing. A wonderful way to begin our pre-Thanksgiving vacation venture. I highly recommend The Consulate for a great meal. It's worth the calories, so make sure you have room to savor the experience!

We had a wonderful time here and the food was incredible. The steak was wonderful so juicy and tasty, I would 100% recommend. Our server Juan was wonderful and extremely delightful and made our birthday dinner so much better. He gave us a free slice of tiramisu for a birthday and loved it.

5.0 / 5.0 If you want to eat croque monsieur, this is the place to go! It's the best in Manhattan! The croque monsieur, available only on Tuesdays, is a must-try among the daily lunch specials! It's not just cheese on bread, but buttery bread with rich white sauce, resulting in a very juicy flavor. The lunch set includes an appetizer and a main course for $29.95. The spiral staircase you see as you enter the restaurant gives it a very luxurious atmosphere. However, the restrooms are spacious and there are plenty of seats, so you can even bring a stroller. The service is also attentive and excellent.

My husband and I had an awful experience at this restaurant last night, which ruined our celebration of Chinese Valentine's Day. The problems began the moment we walked in. The hostess was immediately dismissive when I asked about happy hour, rudely telling me "happy hour already ended" seven minutes before it was over. After I questioned her, she reluctantly allowed us to order a drink, but her attitude was condescending and made me feel as if I was not welcomed The poor service continued with our server, who made a rude comment after we ordered four appetizers and an entree to share to start, asking if I "only wanted a few clams for entree." We felt pressured to order more and added the octopus, which was unfortunately very overcooked and chewy. When a staff member later asked about our food, I mentioned the overcooked octopus. They immediately walked away and never returned with a solution. The disrespect culminated, after we had already paid ~$300 via InKind and showed the proof with our server, another staff member stopped us from leaving and asked to re-verify the payment with suspicion. The consistently rude and unprofessional service from multiple staff members was completely unacceptable for a meal at this price point. Our special occasion was ruined from beginning to end.

A very tasty and reasonably priced meal in NYC? Yes please! I popped in on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at this cozy little venue. This was one of those rare pleasures where I was challenged to pick just which dish to eat. However, I seemed to have picked the jackpot with the Burrata salad. While I've generally encountered burrata prepared with prosciutto or as a Caprese, the inclusion of roasted corn and shaved truffle was delightful. The creme brulee was on point and the service was friendly and attentive. Would definitely drop by here in the future!

My daughter and I went her on a Tuesday night in Dec, I get it, very busy. Food: 5 Star We had the Escargot and the Octopus! Fabulous! Ambiance: Was OK, we ate at the bar which was ok, but we didn't have a reservation which I'm fine with and we were ready to leave , but the Hostess who was very sweet, squeezed us in at bar , and I give her 5 stars for hospitality! Service: 0 Stars Our Bartender was the absolute worst! After sitting at the bar for 12 minutes without being acknowledged, someone else came up behind us and ordered a drink and at that point I said Excuse ME and he said, Ya I got you, and we finally got 2 glasses of $22 Sancere that were crappy pours, one significantly smaller than the other. WOW was he trying to piss us off. But when the check came he was all smiles - Tell that kid (was he even 21) he needs to understand the simplest of protocol "I'll be right with you"

Upscale restaurant in midtown. consulate also has an upper west side location. Reservations were easy to make online. Chefs served complimentary sushi, which was super fresh and delicious. For appetizers we ordered escargot, which was drenched in herb butter and baked shrimp, served in a tomato based sauce and sourdough. Unfortunately this was a bit too sweet for my liking. Main entree we ordered the caramelle pasta - pasta consistency was a bit too thick although sauce was flavorful, hanger steak which was delicious and short rib with cauliflower mash - which was a bit too fatty. I would go here if you're looking to splurge or celebrate. Cocktails were average $22. Overall gorgeous place and location however way too overpriced for the quality.

Came here with some friends on a reservation. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. It is very well appointed and has a very cozy atmosphere. Prices were as expected. Our service was friendly, but not as attentive as we would've liked. Our food took forever to arrive. I ended up having a long black hair in my food. After we were able to fly down our server, he was very apologetic and offered to put something else in for me and handed me a menu. However, by the time he got back to me 30 minutes later, everyone else had completely finished eating, so I opted not to replace my meal. They did comp my dish as well as my cocktail, but I will probably check out other places before coming back here. All said we were there over two hours so I don't recommend coming here if you have a hard stop or somewhere to be by a certain time.

An early dinner before a show and It was a pleasant experiment. Even though we went in during happy hour we decided to sit upstairs and away from the crowd. They're very busy during happy hour. Kale salad was a little dry with.no flavor, T-bone steak was above average and their signature short rib cavatelli was nothing to die for but decent. Ended the meal with a chocolate lava cake. I'd probably go back.

The theater menu is offered 4:30-6:30 and a pretty great deal. We came here for President's Day dinner and it was the least busy as we ever saw it. Nice actually for us since it's usually loud when it's full. The new items we tried were the desserts. The chocolate lava cake seems to be meant for 2 based on price and size. The inside is very liquidy so it sells on its promise. Good deep flavor and went nicely with the Gelato. The pineapple upside down cake we got to try in the restaurant as intended and I actually wasn't as big of a fan. I think the syrup is too sweet for me. There's pineapple sorbet on top which helps with some tartness.

Took the wife here for Valentine's Day, and we're BOTH glad I did. Not a huge fan of pre-fix menus, but I'll definitely make an exception for this restaurant. The place has two levels and a grand balcony staircase, which we got seated alongside. Decor was fancy, but probably not as "stuffy" as you might expect from a French restaurant. You can tell this place is trying to attract more than just the "Old Money" crowd. Service was great. Coming in, the hostess handed my wife a rose. And as always, I appreciate places that take extra care to accommodate my wife's gluten allergy. We got free glasses of sparkling wine. For my app, I ordered the strawberry beet soup. For my main, it was the lobster risotto. For dessert, the crème brûlée. "Strawberry beet soup" sounded so weird, naturally I had to try it. It's served cold and creamy (but not so creamy that I felt full before my main was served). The lobster risotto, well, you know that scene near the end of 'Ratatouille' where Anton Ego takes one bite of his meal and gets instantly transported back to his childhood? Yeah, it was kinda like that. Only it was me and my Nona's risotto. The crème brûlée was the venerable icing on the cake. It was my first time having one. An intriguing combination of flavors, with a thin, candy-like outer layer and a creamy depth. Sweet and delicious! It's not cheap, but this place makes an ideal date night. The food was not only delicious, but perfectly-portioned. As in, by the end of the night, we didn't feel stuffed. Just...satisfied. Which is probably the way Humans ought to eat. But I digress. Would we come back to The Consulate on a non-holiday? Absolutely!

Recent visit to the consulate was well received. Elegant interior makes for a romantic dinner scene. Attentive staff and quick service. Ordered short rib cavatelli and the duck frites. Visited on restaurant week so I added a Caesar salad appetizer and bread pudding as additional picks included in my three course meal. Cavatelli stole the show among main dishes but the bread pudding was delish.

Came here before a broadway show to enjoy the pre-theater menu. We got the kale salad, escargot, striped bass, roasted chicken, creme brulee and pineapple upside down cake. The kale salad was so refreshing with the perfect hint of sweetness from the apple slices and savoriness from the pecorino. The escargot was decently good. The striped bass was nicely seasoned and skin was so crispy. The red pepper gastrique was great with the vegetables. The roasted chicken was slightly dry and honestly, I found the spinach to be a bit salty. The creme brulee was done very well with refreshing fruit on top. My partner enjoyed the pineapple upside down cake, which was a bit sweeter than I preferred but overall, very good. Service is great! Our water cups were never empty! They also have a coat check so you don't have to feel cramped with extra clothing at your seat during your meal.

The space was 2 levels with a grand staircase, had beautiful, elegant interior and a classy atmosphere. There was an old world charm to the place. My friend and I came for brunch. We were given booth seating, which was nice and comfortable. I ordered the Steak and Eggs, which was served with herbed potatoes and salad. The Steak was already sliced, making it easy to devour! It tasted delicious and was cooked exactly the way I like it: Medium well, with a slight char on the outside. It was tender, delightfully juicy and the chimichurri sauce on top was full of wonderful bold flavor. I also enjoyed the potatoes, which were the perfect consistency, slightly crispy, and well seasoned. Eggs were cooked over hard and pretty tasty. The salad was mixed greens, but quite bland because there was barely any dressing. Service was solid. Our waiter was personable and attentive. The pricing was expensive. For instance, the Bread Pudding sounded good, but not for what they were charging - over $14! They do have a Pre-Fixe weekday lunch menu, so I might try to return for that.

I came here during lunch. The Consulate has a classy atmosphere with two floors and a beautiful staircase. The second floor was the main dining area. The food was perfectly prepared and the service was solid. The tartare trio, crab cake, pork tacos, and the creme brûlée were delicious and portions were good. You can also enjoy a pre-theater menu for $65 every day from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, definitely a steal. I would come back to try this menu.

$24.95 luncheon special? Wife was tired of these $10-$15 lunches at the end of our week stay in Manhattan and wanted to move up in price. Saw an ad for $24.95 lunch specials for this place, listing 6 appetizers, 10 main dishes, and 10 desserts. You pick a main dish and either an appetizer or a dessert. Very posh setting with mirrors everywhere, and nice cushy seating. Here's what we saw on the menu for the $24.95 luncheon specials: Monday: Soup of the Day or Green Salad, Classic Burger or Gargenelle Pesto, Bread Pudding or Vanilla Ice Cream. Tuesday: Soup of the Day or Small Kale Salad, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich or Croque Monsieur, Upside down Pineapple Cake or Passion Fruit Sorbet Wednesday Soup of the Day or Small chopped Caesar, Tuna Sandwich or Pork Tacos, Creme Brulee Thursday Soup of the Day or Mixed Salad, Branzano Filet Fennel Salad or Steamed Mussels and French Fries, Bread Pudding or Vanilla Ice Cream Friday Soup of the Day or Green Salad, Cavatelli Pasta or Avocado and salmon toast, Cardamon Panna Cotta. Soup of the day was celery soup, which both of us declined. Takes 12 minutes for our orders to arrive. The green salad was your standard salad, but mixed in with a creamy vinaigrette dressing. Ate everything down to the last leaf. I'm not a fan of pesto pastas, but the pesto Garganelle was delicious. Unfortunately, wife ordered it and ate every noodle. My meal came with a quarter pound hamburger cooked medium, with three pickles, and sliced tomato. Tossed the American cheese aside, and the burger hit the spot. Wife and I fought over the outstanding fries, as good as if not better than McDonalds, thin and crispy with flavor. Took another 15 minutes for our bread pudding to arrive. Waiter gave wife complimentary coffee while we were waiting. The delicious bread pudding came with whipped cream. Would come back again but ask what the soup of the day was before taking a seat.

Wish I'd remember to take pictures. We couldn't get a table at the last minute at the first few restaurants we tried (our bad - dinner time in midtown, serves us right). But found The Consulate on Open Table and so we decided to give it a try. Inside the vibe was awesome. We were led upstairs to what felt like a semiprivate space. Despite it being a full house, noise was fairly manageable and totally faded away once wine and cocktails showed up! Service was super attentive despite being upstairs. And the food was perfect for the occasion. I had the rib cavatelli and would not hesitate ordering it again. And the menu had plenty to choose from for everyone as we had a couple people with dietary restrictions. We all left full and merry!

Came here for a work dinner and had a really nice meal. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has two floors, but is a bit loud and crowded if you are a large group. The service was fast and friendly and the food came out nicely timed. I ordered the grilled octopus as my appetizer and it was cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the dish. I had the roasted chicken for the entree and it was delicious, moist and full of flavor, it paired well with the spinach. I usually do not order chicken out, but this dish looked good and lived up to the hype. The portions are decently sized and while it is a bit pricey, the food is worth the cost. A great spot for a date night, work dinner or nice evening out with friends.

The berry mocktail I ordered was ok. The French onion soup I ordered was ok, but it honestly needed more bread and cheese. I asked for more bread, and it took quite a while. Apparently they grill the bread. I would have appreciated getting quick toasted bread ASAP.

Visited The Consulate for a friends birthday dinner. We actually visited both by accident, the one uptown seemed like a more casual cute date night spot. The Midtown location provides a slightly swankier feel. We arrived pretty late because we went to the wrong location but they were very kind to still honor our reservation. Our waitress was great and well informed on the menu. The menu is pretty standard but the food was all very good, even the mocktails got positive reviews by those at the table. The real star of the show, something I would drive hours for and will likely try to get every time I come to NYC is the pineapple upside down cake. It's banging, I made everyone at the table try it because it was too good to keep to myself.

I came here with a group of girlfriends for restaurant week dinner. Service was overall great. Our server, in particular, talked a good game, especially when it came to cocktails and food. I enjoyed the refreshing ginger optional cocktail. The food was not impressive. I ordered the soup, salmon, and blueberry Panna cotta. I enjoyed my meal. However, my friend ordered the scallops risotto, and the risotto was undercooked, then replaced the meal with the same salmon dish I ordered, and it was rushed. My friends ordered the rabbit Taglatelle and they enjoyed it. My friend ordered the steak frites, which was less steak and more fries. I may return to try their happy hour menu.

After breakfast, we wanted to grab another drink. Unfortunately, not a lot of bars are open in the AM, but one in my group found The Consulate. We walked in and easily grabbed 3 seats at the bar. There wasn't anyone there, so we had the bar all to ourselves. *Booze & Blues: cognac, coffee liquor, antica formula, walnut bitter, smoky whiskey spray ($26) *Malalama: spicy tequila, ancho ryes, blood orange, lime, spicy salt rim ($21) *The Consulate Old Fashioned: bourbon, mezcal, angostura, burlesque bitters ($21) For a morning cocktail, these were delicious! Surprisingly, I liked the malalama the best. I'm normally more of a dark liquor girl, but this was refreshing. And had a nice subtle spice. Service was mellow. The bartender was attentive and sweet. The atmosphere was post Christmas and so pretty! They still had their Xmas tree up which made for a festive vibe. There is an upstairs area which we didn't check out, but from the looks of it, it was the main dining room? There are tables past the bar as well, so plenty of seating. They have a happy hour between 3:30pm and 6pm. (Not sure if it's every day as the menu doesn't state.) Two of our cocktails were on there at $13 each, so a good deal. They have beer, wine, some bites, etc. I wouldn't mind coming back to check out their HH. Fun place for a morning drink. Glad we found a cocktail spot open so early!

Came here for restaurant week! The entrance stairs are super pretty and has a fancy vibe to the whole place while not being stuck up - so fancy but pretty! Cocktails- oui Mademoiselle & ville blanch both are delicious and subtle and highly recommend Octopus carpaccio and burrata were very good dishes. The octopus dish had the right amount of tang and beautiful textures. The focaccia accompanying the burrata was divinely toasted and came with this sweet spicy tomato spread. Balanced flavors and great apps! Steak frites - fries were amazing; crisp and well seasoned, I just wish this dish came with more greens. Steak was good too! Rabbit tagliatelle was okay not great. Enriching about this dish could be better actually. Pasta could be better. Sauce could be so much better. A tad disappointing. Cardamom panna cotta and bread pudding - Very well made! The fruit compote doesn't really fit with the panna Cotta and was a tad distracting for me but that's fine. Bread pudding was very well done Something that bothered me a tad - so this restaurant gives me fancy vibes. If restaurant week wasn't a thing you're paying ~50 on average for an entree. With that in mind, not imagine, a lady in gym clothes with a baseball cap walking with an open laptop in her hand in the dining room. It wasn't a flash pass - she spoke to someone and was there for around 10m. It's a little odd and kinda kills the vibe. I mean I wouldn't wear shorts and a cap to this place but I also

I came here for brunch. Not too many options on the menu for me so I got the omelet and I asked for spinach. It was waaayyyy too salty. I unfortunately had to ask them to make it again I legit could not eat it. There may have been a bit of a language barrier because he thought I meant to take it away and they never sent another one out. I had to seek out our waiter to explain it to him again. When it came out again it was good. So It didn't really ruin my experience- things happen- it just was a bit annoying to have to wait another 20 min when you're hungry . Outside of that- the front of house staff, bartender and hostess so pleasant . I parked right in front and she Informed that I might get a ticket but she would keep an eye out if she saw an officer approaching! Love getting in and out of the city Ticket Free Baby!!! It is gorgeous inside! I came right when they opened so it was completely empty and I got to take in all of the beauty. I might come back here again for dinner, maybe but I can't say it's something I'm rushing to do.

What a great find! LOVED this bar so much. We stopped by for drinks on a snowy Saturday afternoon and had a fabulous time here. It got very busy around 5-6pm. The cocktails are delicious/beautiful, the fries were good, and the ambience was even better! It was Christmas decor when we went in early Jan, but I'm excited to come back and see what the bar is like the rest of the year. Can't speak much for the food here since we only had the fries but would recommend the bar for sure!

Went here this past Monday for restaurant week. Everything I mean everything was so delicious down to the desert. I will definitely be going back. The staff is amazing and the service was A1. It's was such a beautiful place. I saw some yelp reviews and decided to try the place out I'm very glad I did. I will definitely be going back. Thanks for having us.

I really wanted to love this place. My boyfriend and I were in NY for a day only and I had done a bunch of research for dinner options. He loves octopus and we like steak tartare, French onion soup and bone marrow, so to me this menu had so much we would love. We came in a group of 5 and all got different items. Some were good and some were not. Sometimes a menu looks great but the delivery or the meal is not up to par for what you expected based on how the menu read and I think this place did just that. We ordered the octopus and it was chewy and almost inedible. We also got the steak tartare and the meat was chunky and slightly made me gag de the texture. We did have one really good dish which was the short rib cavatelli which is why I bumped the rate to a 3 star. My friend got the roasted chicken and said it was great. And the table got the shrimp toast which I didn't try. It came with 2 shrimp and a 3rd tail that didn't have any shrimp in it so only 2 people got to try the shrimp toast. The service kind of sucked. Nobody came over for a long time. We ordered the apps and we had a bunch left over because we didn't like it and didn't want to finish. We waited and waited for our meal to come and maybe 45 minutes later we finally see our waiter again and he said oh are you ready for your meal? You still have the appetizer. Our food came out slightly after that but he had been waiting for our plates to be cleaned instead of stopping by and verifying if we were ready. I did love the ambience, it's dim lit and a very beautiful restaurant but being more of a foodie, I would rather the food be a little more escalated.

I met up with a friend for brunch this past weekend. Went in blind kind of not knowing anything about this spot other than it's situated across the street from Benihana. Visually the place is gorgeous. Stunning. The entrance has this grand spiral staircase and upstairs are tan leather booths with large sitting chairs, paintings on brick walls. It has a very madman office lunch vibes to it feel. I did not order anything to drink. In fact, I didn't even venture to see how expensive cocktails were on the menu. Instead I just jumped straight to figuring out my meal. I went with the croque monsieur and my friend went with the steak and eggs that also came with potatoes. When the plates arrived I was amazed at how large the portions were. My sandwich literally took up half of an enormous plate. Like where do I even find slabs of bread this big? The sandwich was delicious with heaping amounts of melted cheese and bechamel that tasted divine. The salad was kind of disappointing but it was just an undressed overly salted pile of greens to be honest. That wasn't the main focal point and I doubt anyone finishes their side salad to begin with. The service was very attentive. Like maybe a smidgeon awkwardly attentive. I don't think they liked that I put my handbag on the floor but it doesn't wrap around the way too wide chair backs. They apparently have a very good pre-fixe deal for weekday lunches if one works in the area or plays hooky. For $24.95 you can get either an app or dessert plus a main course. They also have a happy hour from 3:30-6pm of $13 cocktails, $10 wine, and $7 beer as well as discounted appetizers that may be worth exploring.

My friend and I stopped by for Restaurant Week for dinner, and we really enjoyed the food. I got the Octopus Carpaccio, Rabbit Tagliatelle and the Bread Pudding - all of which was delicious and well prepared. Also we were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes, and definitely left with very full bellies. I also got a cocktail, which was nice and refreshing. In terms of service: at some point they re-filled my friend's glass of sparkling water with tap water. And it took a while for them to understand my friend's concern. That being said they ultimately did replace the glass and accommodated us accordingly. So ultimately it was resolved well. While most of the items on the Restaurant Week menu did not seem to be a part of the normal Consulate menu, I definitely left feeling very happy about the food and the quality of the chefs and staff. Will definitely come back again to try their regular menu items!

Had a business lunch at The Consulate and loved it. The tuna tartare was beautifully presented and the perfect start to the meal. The service was stellar and the dining room on the second floor was beautifully designed. The tuna sandwich and perfectly cooked fries were equally satisfying. Look forward to having the excuse to come back for happy hour to try more. Loved my time here.

Beautiful venue with sexy kind of jazz music to pop songs. Our hostess was extremely friendly when we came in and seated us right away. Our server Daranni was very friendly and made the entire experience more enjoyable. We had the blueberry pancakes and omelette with bacon and broccolini. Everything was wonderful. Would love to go back for dinner but unfortunately we are leaving the city today. We will have to come back for another visit.

One of my friends was craving french onion soup. We found The Consulate had it on its menu. The Consulate is a beautiful restaurant. In all my trips to NYC, I cannot believe we missed it. We arrived during the brunch hours and were quickly seated. The service was great too. Our server was attentive and polite. He offered his appetizer and dessert recommendations when we asked. We ordered the shrimp cocktail. There were three VERY large shrimp to an order. They were delicious. I also ordered the roasted maitake mushrooms which came with a flavorful aioli. It was heavenly!! My friends weren't too thrilled with mushrooms, so while they tried it, I basically got it all to myself. :) It was perfectly roasted with crispiness on the edges. I'm glad we shared the order because I would've been too full for my main course. All three of us ordered the french onion soup and it was DELICIOUS! It was perfect for a chilly day. It warmed us up in time for the theater. The soup had the right amount of cheese to bread ratio, IMO. For dessert two of us ordered the creme brûlée. Perfect way to finish brunch. Just a wonderful experience! We'll be back!

This place is absolutely magic! Our server Lara was attentive and super helpful with recommendations! I started out with the oui. Mademoiselle which was fruity and refreshing! I also had the broiled half lobster to start and it was incredible I could've eaten 10 more! My fiancée had the shrimp cocktail. For our entrees I had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly! He had the steak frites with the peppercorn sauce on the side, it was so delicious I could've taken a bath in it. Seriously! And to end the night I had the ginger, optional, spicy, strong and delicious. I love the taste of ginger! I will absolutely be back. Oh and you MUST take a picture on the stair case

Perfect spot to celebrate hubby's birthday. The ambiance is nice but the staff is even nicer. Initially we wanted to order the T-bone steak but they were out. We tried the following: -the tuna tartare served with avocado, yuzu, crisp shallots: hands down the best tuna tartare I've ever had. Must order. -short rib cavetalli: enjoyed the dish but needed a hint of salt to pull together all the delish flavors -steak frites severed with fries and peppercorn sauce: fries were superb - loved the crunch. The steak was cooked to perfection. -filet mignon served with mashed potatoes. This was the most underwhelming dish - just meaty but lacked taste. Needed a bit more butter, salt, pepper...anything. -crème brûlée: an excellent version, highly recommend it. Although on the reservation I specified we were celebrating hubby's birthday, the restaurant did not bring out the dessert with candle/birthday message.

This place truly is a hidden gem. It's a new location within midtown. Once you walk through the door, you are immediately greeted by a beautiful bar and a winding staircase that takes you to the second floor of the establishment, which has more seating. I came here, for lunch, on a random Wednesday, and I was sat immediately. Since it was midday there weren't a lot of patrons eating here at this time, but I didn't mind. It allowed for me to enjoy the space I was in. The Consulate truly spared no expense when it came to the ambiance and design. The design spews sophistication, and would honestly be a perfect date night spot. I went for a light meal, and got the salmon a la carte, paired with a lemon drop martini. The intention is to order sides with your entree, as the dishes do not come with a vegetable or a starch. For what it was and what I wanted, the portion size was perfect. I would highly recommend this place!

Came here because i had an extra hour before a reservation -- stayed for the tartare. Also turned out to be happy hour -- i never plan these things, always fall into them -- what a gift. Sat the bar and got great service -- absolutely gorgeous place -- worth the stop

The restaurant was very beautiful, the decor was well thought out. The drinks & food are simply amazing! We picked from a few small bites & everything was better than the item before it. Such a lucky find... I'll def be back!

A large group of us had a dinner on a weekday night. Stefan was entertaining and good at managing the crowd. The service also included serving wine in the "proper," traditional order. If you're looking for something like that. Everything was really tasty. Starting with the cocktails, you can't go wrong. There are some unique choices, as well. The Lola was a favorite. For appetizers, the tomatoes and burrata and raw bar were a great way to go. Mains were excellent. I'd say the truffle cavatelli was a notch better than the short rib. Others raved about the salmon and filet minion. Wine list was perhaps on the slightly shorter side. But you'll find something you want. No decaf coffee - for now! Feels like an escape from the otherwise touristy and bustling midtown. Check it out!

Pretty pricey but the food was worth it! Delicious cocktails and mocktails! Highly recommend the truffle fries!

Each item-- sides, salad and main was close to perfect. The truffle fries are pretty amazing when dipped in the peppercorn sauce. Corn burrata salad was good too. Atmosphere is slightly old-world stuffy as you might expect with a new American French place. Service was good. Very few surprises, decent all around. Maybe a bit on the pricey end.

Food was fine, really. Their buffalo sauce was outstanding and unique. Burger was fine, fries were fine, corn succotash w burrata was good, bone marrow was good. Heads up - they don't tell you, but no free refills on sodas. Yup. $42 for 6 glasses of diet coke (for two people...small narrow glasses). Fun surprise on the bill! The service? What service? Out waitress was terrible - inattentive, slow, downright rude at times. Thenither staff who filled waters and cleaned off the tables were great. Overall, there are TONS of great places to eat in NYC, I don't see why anyone would need to come here .

My go to place when shopping in Midtown. The ambiance is really pretty, especially during the holidays. Happy hour is on weekdays and a great deal. They also have an amazing brunch on the weekends! Service is fast and friendly. I will say that the layout of the place is a bit unusual - they have most of their standard tables upstairs, so just know that if you're with someone who can't climb stairs. They have their bar and also high top seating on the bottom floor.

Great service and very nicely decorated for Christmas! I enjoyed the cost check amenity. Our food was prepared in an appropriate time. Crab cake was amazing!

We had a reservation on the weekend, but the restaurant was mostly empty. The bar area is very pretty and the restaurant is located on top. I got the steak and eggs which were good but nothing unique. We also shared the bread pudding which was good and not too sweet. The best part of this restaurant is that we weren't rushed and were able to enjoy a leisure brunch!

This was a great lunch experience in midtown -- staff was very accommodating. Chairs were a bit uncomfortable but we had a solid meal. I ordered the crab cake with a side of fries, which came out perfect. Might suggest sitting downstairs for lunch because the upstairs was good ambiance but fairly dark and empty.

The service was impeccable. Javier V was soooooo amazing! He made our trip to NY one we will not forget. The entire experience was absolutely incredible. The ambience, the food, the drinks, everything was wonderful. Thank you, Javier V. For a lovely evening. We also thought the lovely lotion was a nice touch in the restroom.

The food was decent but in no way great. The service was rather poor. Sat upstairs, which in poorly managed restaurants is risky, and this is one. Our food took 25 minutes to arrive, and was lukewarm. The chicken was good, but should have been warmer. The steak frites had the smallest serving of beef I have ever seen for this dish. The fries were good. The three samples of fish tartare appetizer was a joke. $19 for an amount that could fit on one fork. They put it in little cones, otherwise it would look ridiculous, and it was tasteless. Do NOT waste your money on this sad dish. The pork rib teriyaki appetizer was decent. Overall this restaurant is rather weak. The Upper West Side branch is far better. First and last time I will waste my time and money on this tourist trap of a place.

Went in on a Thursday night in a large group. We were offered with a selectable prefix menu. The restaurant was very busy that day. When we ordered drinks from the bar, everything came out pretty quickly. However, after we sat down, I had to call the waitress three times to get my second drink. Food wise everything was good. Mushroom gnocchi was yummy. The upside down pineapple cake was def interesting - super sour at first taste but later on sweeten up. Tuna tartare was average - too much avocados and very salty. Decor was cute.

Loved the two-story restaurant!! Looking from outside , it had class. Decided to check it out after hearing about it's opening in Midtown. We had sat upstairs , beautiful dining room. We ordered few appetizers like Shrimp Toast and Grilled Octopus, both were great. Decided to go with the Tomahawk for 2 , asked for Medium felt like it was Medium Rare but no issues we enjoyed it. Espressos Martinis were flowing in the system so it was a great night. Ambiance - 10/10 Service - 10/10 Very Knowledgeable Parking - Street Reservation Needed , I am guessing walk-ins welcomed as well
