Quirky art-filled and unique decor, comfortable room with patio in a quiet neighborhood. Unique setting in a former convent building. A bit of noise from the bar below, but not terrible. (Bar and restaurant are fabulous!) loved our stay here!

Stayed for one night prior to flight out of Auckland to home. We booked an upstairs room based on other reviews about noise (the Chapel as I recall) and it was nicely decorated, had a small kitchenette with an espresso machine, sink and mini fridge. Also a balcony with tables and chairs - nice place to hang out and chill (except for the noise at recess from the school next door. We did not experience noise from the two events going on (one in the bar and one in the restaurant) after about 10 pm. We did have dinner in the restaurant (reservation was necessary) and it was pricey but excellent. Nice staff, interesting and decor and nice bar with balcony.

Beautiful rooms and decor. They're still working on sound proofing due to noise from the bar so recommended asking for a room further away for a good night's sleep. Would definitely stay again as the staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating of our families needs.

I’ll start with the good: |The hotel is lovely. It has a lot of charm, is unique and my room was very clean. I also didn’t experience any of the noise issues some people complain about, but I was upstairs. ||The bad:|When I entered my room I noted there wasn’t a secondary lock or deadbolt, which I thought was weird. Not 10 minutes later, I hear a knock at my door and then (without giving me time even get up and answer the door), some woman let herself in! She didn’t tell me who she was, she just mumbled something, grabbed something out of the fridge and left. I was stunned. I called the front desk to let them know and they awkwardly apologised, told me it was someone from housekeeping and said ‘it won’t happen again.’ I also asked why someone can just let themselves in my room and front desk told me not to worry, there wouldn’t be anyone there that night anyway. (!!!) Couple reasons why this is hugely problematic if it isn’t obvious: there should be a way to deadbolt the door. I am a solo female traveler, I’d prefer the extra level of security. Also, this person didn’t give me time to answer the door - what if I was in the shower, undressed, etc, you get the picture. Finally, having worked in hospo for years, I feel management didn’t handle this well at all. I’m not one to ask for free stuff, (and I didn’t), but if it were my hotel, to set things right, I would have offered a complimentary glass of wine or something along those lines to smooth over any ruffled feathers. I think a basic level of security and privacy is a very reasonable expectation and if that’s breached, something should be done to make the guest feel safe and welcome. Management basically shrugged their shoulders. I prefer giving my money to boutique hotels over massive multinational chains, but for almost $300, I won’t stay here again.

We were looking forward to our stay here ,being a good location we expected to sightsee all day and recover at night. Well from the first night of three we were kept awake until the early hours of the morning by the on site restaruant . After bringing this to the notice of the manager no action was taken as our second and last night was no different. The rooms are petite with no seating but a day room is available for guests ,but unfortunatly this is taken over by restaruant staff during the day as well. If we had known we were booking into a reastaruant instead of a Hotel we would have stayed down the road at The Surrey Hotel.

Stayed here via booking.com, would recommend. Good sized rooms, friendly service and a good price. Within walking distance to the popular area of Ponsonby Road too.

I stayed here for a week and even that wasn't long enough. I LOVE this place and recommend it to anyone staying in Auckland. The architecture, decor and atmosphere is top notch. The staff were always so kind and accommodating. Close to Ponsonby which has great shops and restaurants. Also 10 minute walk from Grey Lynn park. I loved that this place was a good distance from downtown. So a more quiet, chill atmosphere. The lounge and restaurant within the hotel are also great as well.

The hotel was nice - BUT if you have a problem during the night (for instance “lost your key” or what actually happened “the management kept the music playing through the night in the gangway, so that you hear it in the room - and yes the rooms are badly sound insulated as you can read in other reviews”) it is quite difficult to get someone to assist you. The Intercom (at the door) does not work, the phonenumber in front of the reception has no international area code (surprise: in a hotel in Auckland you have sometimes guests from abroad)…and yes after a certain time you get hold of a person at the phone (believe me - you wait) and the responding person J seems very unhappy somebody called (is it not his job to assist?). Fair enough: In the morning at 3.21 somebody came and switched the sound off - thank you for that. (I think this point is not so well handeled, anyways I did not take any stars of the overall rating for that).
