Picked up lunch at this food truck during Palo Alto's 4th of July Summer Fest & Chili Cook-off. The place was busy! The worker taking my order was distracted and possibly stressed by the nonstop business, neither friendly nor rude, just inattentive. The total wait time for standing in line to order and waiting for the food to be ready was about one hour (that's not an exaggeration). I had a feeling it would take that long, so I didn't bother waiting at the truck. I left and came back.
They were out of any and all fish (halibut, etc.) just two hours into the event I was attending, but that's fine cuz I've tried their fish a year ago at the Cupertino Night Market, and it wasn't that impressive. The remaining choices were prawns or chicken tenders, I went with the former and a side of garlic parmesan sauce.
The prawns were surprisingly not good, I never knew you could go wrong with shrimp. They were certainly hot and just cooked, but the batter was dry, mealy, unexpectedly tasteless, and falling off the shrimp in clumps. There was just something wrong about it. The fries were mediocre but fine. The garlic parmesan sauce was a bit salty with a somewhat unappealing flavor, but still edible.
Maybe I just caught them on a bad day (both times I've had food from The Cookout). Either way, I'm not a big fan.
