The Copper Q Review - Big Bear - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The Copper Q is a coffee shop/cafe/trinket store that should be completely abysmal but is actually not. It’s clear that this place caters to Big Bear tourists, but you’re a tourist, so just go with it. There’s a giant fire pit outside, some sort of cooking class situation in the back, and lots and lots of moms holding house-brewed mochas while getting really early starts on Christmas shopping." - Brant Cox

It was a great place to stop by and get a hot coffee in the area. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is open and welcoming. A good place to catch your breath and sit down for a sip from all the walking around town.

Google
All our food orders came out SO WRONG😭 which is so disappointing bc it was good but we had allergies that were incorporated into the food, items that were the same but totally different when they came out, and medium and large burritos were the same size. coffee was bangers tho

Had an amazing time drinking my bone dry cappuccino (10/10) and sitting with friends. Music was a vibe and met the owner who gave us a few samples of their INCREDIBLE COFFEE. Ended up buying some to take home and reminisce on our time up in Big Bear.

Google
Nice little coffee shop with a place to get some food. My son got a breakfast burrito and said he liked it, I didn't taste it so I didn't put a star next to it. I got the Vietnamese coffee and to be honest I didn't enjoy it much. It tasted like it had an artificial sweetener in it, but I'm not sure? It just had a little different taste than strong Vietnamese coffee and sweetened condensed milk.

Google
They have iced drinks and frappe options available here. ☕️: I ordered an iced cinnamon swirl latte- it was just okay. Atmosphere: I loved the decor! This place had a rustic vibe. They also had cookbooks and miscellaneous items for sale. There were even painted game boards on a forgotten counter. I wonder if they used to have games available for customers when this place was more cozy. Service: barista had an indifferent attitude. We weren’t greeted when we entered and waited at the cash register for a while before someone acknowledged us.

Google
This restaurant has cozy traditional/modern wood interiors, creating an inviting atmosphere. Although there are parking spots, but it can be a challenge to find one, but there is a bigger parking space right on Village Dr right behind “Oakside” restaurant. The highlight of the meal was the blackberry pie showcasing its natural sweetness showcased the fresh blackberries, and the crisp baked pastry crust was delightful. While the flat white coffee falls a little flat, but it is still good and paired decently with the dessert. Overall, it’s a charming spot for a relaxing treat.

We were in the town for several days and found this place right away. It has a great location! But that’s about it. We were there 3 times and I thought the first time was just not their day. Nope, it was bad all the way. Their lack of pastry and food in general wasn’t a one time thing, it was on daily basis. The display was pretty much empty each day (I’ll attach pictures). They were 20% full and it took them exactly 12 minutes to make me flat white coffee. They provided service to all other customers behind me first and then they started to make coffee for me, there were 3 employees behind the counter. They definitely take their time. Second time we were there, they forgot part of my order. The third time we came before 10 am and they were still close…… no note, nothing (they supposed to open at 7 am). So people outside were pretty angry about the lack of service. The coffee is pricey for what you get. The only good thing about this place is location. Management can definitely do better. It’s very badly managed.

I've visited once a day ago, and twice the day of the review, and only ordered once. I would say that the customer service is lacking, substantially. The only polite person thus far has been the cook. The overall atmosphere (no matter who's there) is reluctance. They don't like to acknowledge you. To keep it short the last visit for lunch the cook was trying to get the attention of a staff member (an older gentleman). Understandably he was talking to a fellow employee. However, instead of responding he looked over, acknowledged I was a customer looking to make an order, and continued his conversation. A few moments lapsed and the cook called him again with no response. I politely told the cook I'll be leaving and might come back later. A similar situation happened in the morning when I ordered breakfast. A cordial response would have been "Good afternoon sir, I'll be right with you in a moment". I would recommend 'Rewind Collective' down the street from Village Pizza. The employees are friendly, welcoming, and responsive to your needs. They take great care with their products. Not looking to have my back rubbed and feet massaged. Just be treated with decent respect. Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. Seems as if they don't want it. I get it, I used to work in customer service, but, still... I will say, their interior design is wonderful.

Yelp
There's not a lot of places that are open early for a cup of coffee in the village. Monday morning and the town was basically dead. Not one person walking around. We popped in for a cup of coffee and a morning stroll. This place is quite big both inside and outside with loads of seating for both. The gentleman that rang us up was quite friendly and very sweet. They also have fresh pastries on hand. I did notice a little kitchen area in the back so I assume they serve food. Didn't check this place out prior to coming in. Also have items for sale, teas and coffees. It's a nice shop if you're wanting a coffee that's open early. Earlier than the rest of the other shops. Our latte was quite nice which is a plus.

Yelp
This visit was okay. It's changed a LOT since I was there last (different owners, different focus). I got there too early to get breakfast - which was unfortunate; these guys used to have a pretty epic breakfast burrito. The no longer have the Maple latte that I loved, so I picked up a butterscotch latte. It wasn't the same, tasted funny, and I guess the drinks only come in one size now. The barrista (or cashier ... I couldn't tell which) didn't seem to listen. The cook wasn't ready to make food. The ambiance has completely changed. The wait time for a tepid latte is ... really long. I hope they improve.

Yelp
This is not the place people have been reviewing a year ago. Either they changed ownership or they just got hit with the inflation prices. They don't have the soups from previous posts. We got here today at 8:50am and they have ran out of viet coffee. How? You just opened at 8am. And you have viet coffee beans displayed on the counter. The cashier, Kaitlyn was such a snob when she got our breakfast order wrong and told us to just tell the chef. Why don't you? It's your job. The viet coffee is so milky. Not good at all. I got the breakfast special. Why does my hashbrowns taste like mustard? I can't believe that we paid $9 for a cold burrito and $12 for a hash brown, egg and bacon (supposed to be sausage). Although must give the chef Jesus, credit as he is really nice and I feel really bad for him bc he's the only one behind the counter cooking the food. We don't complain, we're pretty easy going. But the experience this morning, just put us in a bad mood. We're currently headed to Sister my sister bakery down the road. They are a legit bakery/ coffee business. They will get the credit they deserve.

Yelp
A large and crowded cafe/diner with drinks, food, pastries, and more! It is very busy with a constant line. It is also difficult to order as I could not find a menu for their food and drink items besides the drink menu at the register. I was able to decide on the pastries to order by looking through their display shelves. - raspberry white chocolate scone: 8.2/10. This was very yummy! Not too sweet, with a crispy exterior and soft and fluffy interior. It wasn't dry like how scones normally are and there was a good amount of raspberries and white chocolate chips. - artichoke quiche: 7.5/10. This was also yummy! Took about 10 minutes to warm up. There was lots of artichoke chunks and the crust was flaky. There was a little bit too much cheese for my preference, but still yummy. - matcha latte: 5/10. very bland and tasted like milk. - caramel macchiato: 6/10. very weak/diluted coffee flavor. Not too sweet which was good. Would not recommend getting drinks here.

Yelp
Such a cute little coffee shop! I love that they cook the food you order right in front of you! Their coffee beans are from Vietnam and the coffee was delicious. They have plenty of flavors to choose from but I really like their brown shaken espresso!

Yelp
Went in for a quick coffee/breakfast pick up before heading out for our day of exploring. Food was good, coffee was fine - I liked the wide variety of selections. Items were on the pricier side. There was also discrepancies in pricing from one posted menu to another (shown in photos). Staff was lovely and super friendly. My one big complaint and, based on other reviews, sounds like others had the same experience, was that our order took a very long time. They were busy, yes. Maybe short staffed? Who knows. But waiting 25 mins for a latte and a breakfast sandwich just wasn't something we were prepared for, so that was unfortunate. I think it's one of the few coffee shops in Big Bear, which is pretty surprising.

Yelp
Got the matcha. My advice: Don't get the matcha!! Matcha powder was not blended, and tasted like water somehow.
google avatar

Omar F.

Yelp
Nope! Not my cup of coffee in every sense of the word. I ordered an iced vanilla lattes with almond milk. It tasted extremely watered down. In fact it had zero coffee flavor. The bath room is a sticky wet mess, use it at your own peril. Friendly service, the baristas are definitely working hard. The coffee drinks do need to be revamped to ensure better quality.

Yelp
At The Copper Q in Big Bear Lake Village, the Vietnamese coffee steals the show. Made with La Viet beans, it's bold and nutty, with sweetened condensed milk adding creamy balance. Served iced, the rich, robusta-heavy brew shines through, perfectly bittersweet and velvety. The cozy mountain vibe--fire pit and all--makes it even better. At $5-$6, it's a splurge worth taking. Pair it with a pastry, which I got the vanilla cupcake and you've got a standout mountain morning. It's like a Saigon café escape, pines included. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Nicole O.

Yelp
We got three drinks and a brownie and everything was really good. My husband is Vietnamese and he said their Iced Vietnamese Coffee is legit. I really liked the cold brew with caramel cold foam on top. Quick service, decently priced for a tourist town.
google avatar

Lynn O.

Yelp
If you're here for the coffee, it's up and down. The cold brew is a little weak, and they were out of Vietnamese coffee by 3:30. However, the caramel macchiato was on point. The best part of the visit for me was the vibe this place has. Lots of casual counter seating, high ceilings in a beautiful early to mid century setting. Cool and breezy in June, with cool jazz playing in the background. Staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient.

Randy R.

Yelp
We ordered three drinks and they were all very refreshing. It was a hot day so we tried a variety of drinks. The Vietnamese coffee had a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. The peach tea was sweet and smooth. Overall, the place was very beautiful with all the paintings and the drinks made it all the better!

Yelp
One of our favorite places when we come to Big Bear! The spot is right in the Village and adorable. The coffee is delish and there's plenty of spots to sit and relax. The owner Michael was so attentive and friendly - love the small town feel. 10/10 recommend whether you're looking for a caffeine fix, yummy food and somewhere clean, relaxing and with perfect selfie opportunities this is your place !

Cally B.

Yelp
There's a short old man with grey hair that has a bad attitude. He gives you a hard time if you return as a customer. He fails with his humorous comments and counts how many times you return and will say "you've been here ___times, you should know". He needs to stop with that because it's not funny and after 10 years of coming here with better management in the past, I will not be coming back.
google avatar

Gaby J.

Yelp
coffee shops never get shaken espressos right but this place was so good! tasted very authentic if that makes sense, like not artificial which was amazing :) customer service was also great, kind and helpful employees. will definitely come again next time i visit!

Yelp
Super cute place in the middle of the Village. We were happy to come for coffee and some sort of breakfast. At 10 am the place was packed. There was one counter person who couldn't handle the rush. There is a commercial kitchen on site so here is why my review is low. They have a very large menu. Nothing listed was available. There was hardly anything in the display case. Our options were some scones and Zucchini bread. I asked the counter lady directly is this fresh from this morning? She replied yes. She lied. We were so disappointed to bite into several day old, dry Bread. It all got tossed in the trash. Do better.

Yelp
Adorable wood and stone cabin inspired cafe that offers cooking classes, fresh baked quiches, bagel sandwiches, pastries, a large selection of delicious cafe lates, coffees and hot ciders! They have beautiful tea cups, mugs, and locally made jams and preserves for sale, nicely presented on wooden shelves. The cons----they are very short staffed. The girl behind the register was incredibly sweet and helpful, but she was overwhelmed. My hot chocolate I ordered was ice cold, I had to return it to get a hot one. A woman in line started complaining, "Are you the only one working here?? What's taking so long!?" The prices are on the high side, my cake pop was yummy but I have to admit I've had much better. It's a nice place to visit and has a wonderful atmosphere but there is some room for improvement.
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
We love this place even with the new ownership. Coffee nice and strong until we got to the bottom of the cup full of grounds. Be aware. We will still return but check before going out to the patio. Need to put some color inside now no merchandise anymore. Looks like a prison. Lol.

Yelp
What could improve? Everything! Popped in here after an amazing dinner at Oakside Restaurant. Ordered some incredibly bad m, even disgusting churros, two very dry cupcakes and a decent slice of berry pie. The bad baked goods were accompanied by equally poor service, with the cashier rudely and bizarrely announcing that anyone in line would " just have to wait". Tourist trap!
google avatar

Reine N.

Yelp
Came here in search of pho and ended up walking out with quiche! The pho prices were quite steep ($18), so I decided to opt for a slide of quiche instead. I ended up ordering the bacon quiche and the cashier heated it up for me. I'd recommend eating it right away, as I waited a bit and the cheese on the top became a bit more firm. I loved the crumbly crust on this one and thought the egg/bacon portion was yummy as well. There were some veggies (I believe it was bell peppers?) mixed in which made for a more well-rounded bite. Overall, if you're looking for a smaller bite, I'd recommend checking out the quiche here!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
If anyone gives this place less than a five star, they're crazy! The absolute best chicken soup, tiramisu, cakes, pies. They even have the most epic burritos you must visit here when you come to big Bear. This will be our family favorites thank you Copper Q, especially for the customer service.
google avatar

Rebeccah H.

Yelp
Awesome service! Sooo good, we didn't order food this time. Just coffee and some treats, also got the raspberry and white chocolate scone. Amazing

Yelp
This place is interesting to say the least but I'm glad our little group found it before heading back down the mountain! We were looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't just traditional American breakfast and were surprised to see that this seemingly traditional American coffee shop also sold pho. This location is in The Village so parking is either on the street or in the nearby lots. We got there around 11 am on a Sunday and found a street spot right in front of the restaurant. If you're dining in, you order at the counter with the register and seat yourself at a table. There's another "counter" or open kitchen looking bar area at the back of the restaurant that has seating too and that's where the pho is made to order. If you're just ordering a drink/pastry, there's another counter you go to pick those up. When the pho is ready, the man making it will call out your name. They also have the sauces, lime, jalapeño, etc. available for you to add to your pho. They serve just two types of pho, beef or vegetarian. The beef pho comes with meatballs, sliced beef, and a huge beef rib. The vegetable pho comes with mushrooms and an assortment of veggies. Both are served in a heavy stone bowl and seem to be the less commonly known Northern type of pho. The broth is sweeter and the noodles are wider than the pho you'd usually get at a pho restaurant but was delicious nonetheless. It really hit the spot for all of us. The man making the pho was also super sweet. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I visited this place for the first time, and I have to say, the locals were quite unfriendly. While my friend and her 7-year-old son were seated, waiting for their drinks, her son was quietly watching a movie on her phone. A white couple nearby asked him to lower the volume, then stood up and remarked, "these people." It's important to remember that "these people" are the ones supporting local businesses. We chose to come here instead of opting for a chain like Starbucks, but it seems that some locals could use a little more patience. Below is a photo of the two locals who were particularly rude.
google avatar

Gohar K.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop at the village. We always stop by when in the area for coffee, hot cocoa and baked goods. The scones are pretty good here. I love looking at the things they sell. Always something cute or useful that I can buy. During this time of the year I get presents for my foodie friends from here. It's always busy, long lines specially in the mornings Customer service is great but seriously they need more employees.
google avatar

Breanna A.

Yelp
Good little coffee shop with lots of option for drinks and food. Some things I tried during the weekend were the chai tea latte, iced green tea and the breakfast croissant. Another day I had tried to stop in for tea but they said they were all out which was odd for a coffee spot in the middle of the day. Apart from that, when I was able to grab a green tea it was good but the chai was more milk than chai. Overall a cute spot and my friends really enjoyed their coffee drinks.

Yelp
I had the privilege of meeting Michael, the fine owner and Laura, the superb baker at CopperQ. We were about 12 people in line and Michael surprised us by giving us free cupcakes and me, a slice of the most deliciously exquisite carrot cake, I've ever tasted in all of my travels. Michael is a classy family man who has your family unit in mind, as he brainstorms to bring us the best experiences & tastes. Please stop by for an aromatic cup of coffee & yummy desserts & savor a wholesome sandwich! Try something new!

Yelp
Weekend after Xmas so everywhere had 2+ hour wait and we were hungry! Stopped in here, line went pretty quick, ordered 2 breakfast sandwich's and 2 breakfast burritos. Our coffees were ready fairly quickly but our food took 40 minutes!!! We were told 20-25, I felt so bad for the lady cooking in the back, she was by herself! But 40 minutes and $75 later, our tummies were full. Food was good! But 3 stars for being short staffed on a busy weekend, poor woman couldn't keep up.

Yelp
I'm not one to take the time to make a review; however, my experience at the Copper Q on 8/4/24 turned out to be a pleasant experience because of Mike the new owner. Background. My family and I had just waited an hour and a half at another restaurant to finally receive a completely wrong order. My wife researched options for plant based and the Copper Q came up. Once we got here, we were informed the plant based is an old option under the previous owners. Mike overheard our conversation with the girl answering our questions. Mike took us to the side and offered to customize a special breakfast for my family catering to their dietary needs. Not only did Mike go way out of his with the food, he continued to follow up with us making our family a priority while we were here. Mike's customers service was hands down one of the best we have ever experienced. Please support Mike and his team here at the Copper Q. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
The barista seemed like a legit creep. Some kid with slick back hair. Acted like he was a tweaker on his day off. Completely I professionals. Watched half the customers walk out the door because the line was so long. Average wait time to order was 20 minutes.
google avatar

C N.

Yelp
Flavor was a little artificial, maybe too much syrup? Tasted good though & service was great. Didn't try the quiche but interested, looked like hefty slices for $8 each.

Yelp
**Local Café (More Like a Coffee Roulette)** My wife, daughter, and I wandered into this café with dreams of sipping on a perfect Vietnamese coffee. Spoiler alert: dreams crushed. Apparently, this place, which claims to be a Vietnamese café, was fresh out of Vietnamese coffee. No explanation, no apology--just a sad little "nope." It's like walking into a pizza place and being told they're out of pizza. Determined not to leave empty-handed, I settled for an Americano. Honestly, it wasn't half bad, but the disappointment of missing out on my caffeine dreams still stung. I can't blame the kid behind the counter; he was doing his best. But seriously, who runs a café and forgets to stock up on coffee? That's like running a zoo without animals (which, ironically, I have experience with). On the bright side, the place was clean and nicely decorated. So, while the coffee selection was more of a roulette game, the ambiance was on point. Just a heads up--if you're looking for a big city coffee experience, this small town spot might leave you craving more... or less, depending on what's in stock that day!
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
Dog friendly outdoor seating. Friendly and helpful staff. Discovered that their Vietnamese coffee is just drip coffee made from Vietnamese coffee beans. They were out of 12 oz cups, so the $7.50 medium drop coffee was what they offered. I was disappointed because I was expecting "cafe da" or actually Vietnamese coffee.
google avatar

Margareta Angelina A.

Yelp
I always come here for the hot chocolate when I am at Big Bear, and it is fun to come with friends and family.
google avatar

Claire K.

Yelp
My family ordered the hot chocolate and caramel macchiatos. We arrived just looking for coffee, anything hot honestly, to keep ourselves warm from the cold weather. They let us know it'll take 20 minutes and we were okay with that, but ten minutes later they let us know they're closing so we need to leave after we get our drinks. They're surprisingly done by the time the girl told us we need to leave, but they tasted horrible. The hot chocolates had no flavor, it was like hot milk. The caramel macchiatos were terrible. I don't know if it was because they were closing or busy that the drinks were bad, the only good thing was the nice lady working there but that was it. TLDR: Hot chocolates & caramel macchiatos were flavorless and bad.

Yelp
Came to Big Bear for our annual trip with friends. Halloween night was pretty cold so we needed something warm so we stopped at Copper Q. It was busy so Mike was very lovely and offered us some pastries while waiting ! He also offered us quiche. His family was so sweet and kind ! Definitely recommend. Service was above and beyond !
google avatar

Kaida F.

Yelp
My friends and I came in on a Wednesday at 9:30 am while waiting for everything else to open, so no one was here. However once we stepped foot inside the vibe was terrible, we didn't feel welcomed at all, maybe it was because we were young adults so we were stereotyped right away? The barista kept staring us like a creep, it doesn't help the fact we're young women so we felt unsafe. The rest of the staff (at least 3 of them) were just standing by the barista, all of them kept staring and pointing at us as they talked to each other while we were trying to figure out what to order. Due to the unprofessionalism and just feeling straight up uncomfortable, we felt the best choice was to just walk out. After reading more of the recent reviews we're glad we did, it seems that this establishment can't handle a quiet restaurant setting, I can't imagine how they perform in a rushed one. Terrible first impression.

Yelp
Wow feeling like in France . Line in France for how many years . its taste real quiche . I ordered spinach quiche C'est bon !! Their cup cake is very good to not to sweet it's perfect ! As well as their coffee is very good . i highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
I come to The Copper Q every time I visit Big Bear for desserts and coffee. They have the best soft but chewy cookies! Today, I met this friendly man who seemed to be the owner, and he was so kind and sweet. I was feeling a bit down today, but coming to this café made me so happy. I forgot to ask his name, but thank you so much for making my day bette!

Marianne R.

Yelp
Was looking for pastries to bring home to my mom and saw this coffee shop on yelp. Unfortunately, they don't have carrot cake and Viet coffee at today but I ordered something else. Coffee was so good. Ordered caramel machiato and toffee nut machiato. Ordered cupcake for my daughter too. As we were about to leave, the owner came and gave my daughter a cake pop for free. He was even asking us to take 2 and even offered a hot chocolate (which I politely declined coz he's offering too much). Above and beyond customer service. We'll definitely visit the shop again and suggest to family.
google avatar

Lisa V.

Yelp
The Copper Q is a little coffee shop and they have some sweets snacks and little Knick knacks as well! A great place to stop in when it's cold out to get a hit drink to warm up! Friendly atmosphere and places to sit!

Guadalupe M.

Yelp
Food is good, great variety. Just get prepared for a long waiting if it's busy. Poor cooks get slammed and for any reason they don't get any extra help. Don't go there if you are very hungry, waited for my food for more than half an hour
google avatar

Ariana L.

Yelp
Super sad they don't offer vegan options for breakfast anymore. So so bummed. I hope other vegans see this review before heading there.
google avatar

Belinda R.

Yelp
This establishment has taken a serious downturn since the Stalcups sold it. When they owned it the service, coffee, and food were lovingly handcrafted and tasted accordingly. The decor was that of a place that cared about foodies and the craft of cooking. Now, on the other hand, the place is a mismatched hodge podge of stuff shoved against the wall. The place oozes of an impersonal and uncaring atmosphere that lost the Big Bear touch. It also has an air of dingy and dirty as portrayed by the table filled with crumbs in the cracks. Gross. Facts since change of ownership: 1. The establishment is not as clean. 2. The establishment is not as inviting. 3. You pay more for less (a plain cup of coffee with local's discount costs $5.33, whereas a mocha of the same size at the Tea & Coffee Exchange is $5.12).

Melissa R.

Yelp
We walked around The Village in Big Bear and found this place for breakfast. The experience was great. I got the omelette scramble and it was a very large portion. Two people can definitely split it. The chai latte is delicious and had a hint of apple cider. Total was about $15. It's a spacious spot but with a cozy feel. Ide come here again.
google avatar

Victor Y.

Yelp
They now serve a tasty Beef Pho or Tofu Shiitake Mushroom Pho that's very yummy for $18
google avatar

Theresa B.

Yelp
Copper Q is under new ownership, and we got to meet the owner while he was cooking the pho broth by the back stove. He stated that Copper Q is learning towards a Vietnamese-style menu! The Pho Bo was fantastic. He also introduced a new Vietnamese house coffee, which is a smoother take on the traditional Vietnamese coffee with the arabica beans. The owner shared that everything is directly sourced from Vietnam, down to the Pho noodles. I would highly recommend trying this place!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
The food has always been good but the service has always been poor. Seems like they are top of this now. Was just there on a busy Saturday morning and the staff was on top of everything. They actually made you feel that they were glad you were there. They have new tasty menus items too! Well done!! Seems like you have everything on track. We look forward to coming more often again.

Yelp
Honey lavender latte is to die for ! Good equal mount of coffee and sweetness . The flavors didn't over power it. Which I truly like. It was busy in the establishment . But the service was quick and easy . The young women that help us was extremely nice . Would def come back soon
