Great selection of classic adult and children books. Great number of art books too. Very nice wrapping service during the holidays. The postcard selection could be better but overall it's a lovely store.

Literally spotted this gem while walking the streets and we both went “oh a corner bookstore” at the same time we realized that was the actual name. Great selection of bestsellers and genres ranging from art, history, drama, fiction… The doors were open and the store was welcoming. Staff was friendly and open to conversation!

This is one of the finest independent bookstores you’ll find anywhere in the world. The collection is expertly curated, everyone on staff is a bonafide bookworm and they’ll happily wrap your book in classy paper if you’re giving it as a gift. We shop here on purpose all year round.

The moment you walk through the door, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into Meg Ryan’s charming bookshop from You’ve Got Mail. In fact, the owner mentioned that the bookstore in the film was inspired by theirs! The atmosphere is warm and nostalgic, and their children’s section and rare books collection are especially impressive.

Great first experience! I don’t remember the gentleman’s name but he pointed out quite a few books in the general was looking for and even brought a book from the back that wasn’t on the shelves yet. That was the book I got and it felt like a secret find! Will be back!

My bf and I have been wanting to stop in for the longest time, we live down the block and today was the perfect day for us...the store itself is quaint and charming, however, the staff were anything but. I was floored that not one person greeted us, not even an acknowledgment of us being there! We were the only two people there...until a woman came in who they obviously knew. We continued to shop around...and when we left I even thanked the manager on our way out...though he couldn't be bothered to acknowledge us even on our way out. Literally wouldn't look at us! It's a one and done...and we're done!

So adorable! I'm so surprised I have driven by this store without knowing so many times. This store is the cutest bookworm oasis with a sprinkle of unique knickknacks for gifting joy or just for yourself. You walk in and to the right is a little book nook with arm chairs and a "fireplace". Straight to the back right is a children's corner draped with a bevy of new and old finds and some comfy pillow cushions for the littles to sit and read. We found some great books I haven't seen before and probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise, they do a nice job placing books face forward and highlighting a diverse collection. From a book about dim sum to critter club it was a nice collection without feeling cluttered. There's another corner near the register with totes, accessories and so forth. After purchasing our books (each with a bookmark and in beautifully designed paper bags) the woman let my girls Pick out a sticker to which the obliges with enthusiasm. Right across from Verona park and a much welcomed Addition to Bloomfield Ave. Thanks for making it a lovely visit. Be back soon!

Oh how we love an independent bookstore and Corner Bookstore is one of our new favorites. The employees were attentive and personable, but not overbearing or breathing down your neck as we browsed around. My 6yo asked for a book series the staff weren't familiar with but a quick look on the computer and they did indeed have some books. They are not just one row of books, but there is a second row of books behind the outward facing book so while the shop itself isn't large, there is a large selection of books to be had. What a gem, we cant wait to come back!

The Corner Bookstore is one of Manhattan's treasured independent bookstores and it's worth a visit regardless of your w or interests! They have a wonderful children's area as well as the most wonderful selections of bestsellers and a wide range of books that will keep you mesmerized as a browser or shopper! One of the booksellers, Matt has often been a great source for recommendations and since he's so well read, he is also a great person to discuss literary topics of great interest! The bookstore is located on the corner of 92nd and Madison Avenue.

I came here two weekends ago. The bookstore is small and the various sections are not well labeled. Despite this, the place is adorable and I purchased a fiction novel which Madison recommended and a short story book. I am enjoying both. I love to support local bookstores-- especially ones with a lot of history. The one negative thing that I will say is that the staff behind the desk were commenting and gossiping about an elderly couple who purchased books right before me. I know we are all human, but it left a not great taste in my mouth. Other than that, I enjoyed my visit.

Wonderful independently owned bookstore on Madison Avenue. The employees were attentive and personable, and on my visit Saturday afternoon, the small bookstore buzzed with enthusiastic energy as customers shopped, chatted with staff who gave recommendations, and bought their book treasures. I was not familiar with this little gem, and will now make a point of ordering books from here when possible, rather than online. If Corner Bookstore does not have books you want in stock, they will order them for you. While the store is not large, they have a nice selection, and I was pleased with the children's book selection which was my area of interest this weekend. I saw many favorite classics and favorite picture books I bought for my son when he was younger, including "The Kissing Hand," a perfect book for parents sending their children off to Kindergarten/ school, and a number of newer picture books, including the beautifully illustrated "Keeping the City Going," which captures the past year of mask wearing during the time we stayed at home and showcases essential workers in NYC. A touching book I think everyone would appreciate having to share and reflect on this historical time upcoming years. Definitely recommend visiting and buying books from The Corner Bookstore, and supporting this wonderful, independent business.

There's no reason not to love this bookstore. It's been here since 1976. Bookstores like this are closing. I'd like to suggest you visit if you're touring the Upper East Side. After all you're close to all the museums. It's only a block away. I highly recommend!

The Corner Bookstore is an independent store that's been around for about 50 years, we think. That qualifies as a landmark in NYC, doesn't it? Whatever, it's been a bastion of good bookselling for lots of people on the Upper East Side and beyond. The staff usually is friendly and helpful (there have been some periods when that's not been the case), but they also know it's fine to let folks alone to roam. Browsing sells as many books as bookseller suggestions, in our experiences. Anyway, the store isn't huge so the stock is limited, but they do carry a decent backlist in most of the categories with which we are familiar. And we always enjoy buying books here because we really like independent dealers. They carry some signed books and have a good stock of kid's books. There's a lot to like in this attractive store, and we think it's well worth a visit.

My favorite quintessential Madison Avenue bookstore. Each time I have been there, it was always busy and I am happy to see this. I will continue to get my books from here as authentic places like this need to survive during this crazy pandemic.

I have been sending books to my clients for many years and Chris and his staff do a marvelous job each and every year. The Corner Book Store is a throw back to what Manhattan was like 50 years ago before Big Business, National Chain stores invaded and cut the heart out of our once grand city of Mom & Pop neighborhood stores. I pay more for each book, Amazon is cheaper and so is the result. Buying on line is a disgusting experence walking into a book store like this Tiny Gem is the raw essence of humanity. Exchanging ideas and picking the brain of Chris and his staff is what makes shopping at this store a wonderful experence.

Imagine my surprise this morning to receive a call in South Pasadena, California from the owner of The Corner Bookstore in New York City. Researching my next novel, which will be about Carnegie Hill and Millionaire's Row in the early 20th Century, she generously answered all the questions I had about the neighborhood. I often stop by when I return to the city, and always find the staff of the Corner Bookstore knowledeable and eager to help--or permit me to browse. this bookstore is really cute! nice and small. they have a cool old fashioned register! i was looking for boxed cards and they have a small stationary section. i bought one box of van gogh cards. very nice staff and helpful.

The only reason they got one star is because it won't allow me to give zero stars. The selection is very minimal, the staff is unfriendly, snobbish and not helpful at all. While I was there, I heard one of the staff telling a customer that if they don't carry a particular book, they can order it from Amazon at the current Amazon price. I had a large gift certificate, and I gave them the printout from Amazon of the books I wanted, prices included. They charged me full price, not the Amazon price as quoted to the other customer, and refused to give my husband a receipt when he picked up my order. The total jacket price for all the books I received was about $20 short of my gift certificate, but without a receipt I had no recourse. I guess that's how they pay their Madison Avenue rent.

No one greeted us or cared to ask us if we needed help finding a book... We were literally standing next to the cashier and she didn't even stop to help us, instead she kept talking about personal issues with a co worker. What a shame.

A little less snoot would be appreciated. Or downright rude, I should say. I walked in, was greeted poorly, and walked out. Too bad I have to order the book on Amazon for good service.

The best book store in New York. My family have been loyal customers for generations. I cannot imagine Carnegie Hill without our beloved Corner Bookstore. I get most of my presents here (books for baby showers, coffee table books for colleagues, graphic novels for my daughter, biographies for my son and novels for my husband).

This store opened the same year I moved to NYC the first time (1978), but I hadn't been there for eons because I seldom get to that neighborhood. I was walking by there today and was glad for the opportunity. It's a small store, but they have a pretty good/eclectic selection; particularly fiction, travel and children's books. Although no one approached me initially, both of the staff were certainly very pleasant as I made my way further into the store. In particular, I love the coziness and attractiveness of this store; it's like a throwback to a former era.

Bookstores like these are a rare find in the city these days. This bookstore is pretty small and the pictures on yelp are realistic. It is local and family owned, been here since the 1970s. They have a great selection of books and I was able to find most of what I was looking for. It was cool to find some books were signed by the author as well. I would highly recommend a visit, you may encounter a rare find!

If you have small children, it is best to shop anywhere else. We visited today with our 1 year old son. He is good natured, but excited to explore any new place. There were step stools positioned in the children's section that he found to be perfect to scoot around and utilize for balance. An older male employee approached us to tell us that our son was too disruptive! We promptly left without purchasing anything. They should put up a sign that children are not welcome.

I visited several weeks ago because the Corner Bookstore had been giving out extremely generous $50 gift vouchers to hospital staff who were working during the hardest time of Covid in NYC, late March/early April. They aren't bragging about this, but I think people should know how kind they were during this time. I got several books and really appreciated their selection. Lots of great books with focus on important topics like diversity and climate change, and of course, a cute and impressive kids' section.

I wouldn't recommend buying from here. Owner or manager very dismissive. They seem to be interested in themselves first customer second. Would not recommend.

So you know "The Little Shop Around The Corner" from "You've Got Mail"? This store is what inspired it. And it's like this charming piece of a very fond memory came to life. Cozy and local. When I walked in today, the store keeper told me it was started by a couple in the 70s and is still owned by them. It seems they will be passing it on to the store's managers - but I really hope they stay true to its very special vibe. He also told me how the producers of You've Got Mail originally wanted to film there, but then realized they needed a bigger space, so they build a set that was largely inspired by The Corner Bookstore, with many elements reminiscent of it. I bought an e.e. Cummings book there today...and so loved the browsing.

I've only been here once, but it was a nice experience. I took my daughter and she had fun as well. I would definitely recommend going there

A small but lovely bookstore with a knowledgeable staff. You won't find much in the way of the thrillers or other mass market books. Instead, Corner Bookstore caters to those who are interested in literature, fashion, design, some photography, some art. They also have a wonderful children's book section. They also hold author readings in this intimate space. I say check those out for sure. They serve some wine and cheese at these events, and it's just nice to go to readings on a smaller scale.

You are a beautiful place, Corner Bookstore. I feel like you were taken carefully out of England and placed on the corner of Madison and 93rd. You have a great selection of cook books including the cult favorite from Sarabeth's...I even saw one James Beard one too. I will make a point to stop in again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Two bookstores to die for within 10 blocks on the Upper East Side? This is what makes Manhattan the best place on earth. This is bigger than Crawford Doyle which I reviewed a few months ago and there is a bench so you can actually sit down and read. Also there are two excellent and learned staffers here, versus four or more in a smaller space. This is a bit more laid-back than Crawford Doyle, perhaps because it's all the way up at 93rd and there is less foot traffic than the low 80s on Madison. I bought two books and started the Jane Gardam. Lovely! Last Friends is the title and I didn't read the first two but it matters not at all. I love everything about this store! Christopher Beha read from What Happened to Sophie Wilder? here. I have misplaced it and need to re-buy as I was a third through it and loving every minute. And in the spring and summer, you can't beat the red flowers in planters above the store. It's the cutest store and not so tiny you're bumping into people (like Crawford Doyle)

I love this place. Small, but classic selection of books. Wide selection of children's books. So cute. It's what I imagine bookstores looked like in the "olden days."

I have known Corner Bookstore since late 1980s, and all I can say is that it is the best bookstore in NYC. Can you imagine having little kids and taking them to the bookstore, introduce them to numerous great books and the helpful staff? That's what I did, and I am the happiest father for doing so.. The Corner Bookstore is a legend, as far as bookstores are concerned, they are a dying breed, and hope this one will restore my hopes in keeping the neighborhood bookseller dream alive.

I can't believe I have never been to the Corner Bookstore before. I felt like I was browsing through a very well read friends library. My wallet is a tad thin these days or else I would have bought so many books. Regarding the comment of why pay retail for book. I pay retail when book sellers bring to my attention books that I would never see featured at the big box stores. They deserve to make full retail for their efforts at editing. Their cookbook selection was extensive (nothing from the first girl of NY is a good thing), children's books were excellent. I could have been there all day!

The guy behind the counter (owner?) is not going to win a 'Mr. Personality' contest, but this is the bookstore from You've Got Mail, the bookstore that lives in our collective imagination....there is a resident cat, a couple of places to sit and read your prospective purchase, author readings, a well-curated collection of recent titles all in a cozy store that doesn't overwhelm. I deliberately buy best-sellers from Corner Bookstore in order to do my small part to making sure a place like this doesn't disappear.

Well-edited selection, limited only by the store's size. I popped in for Christmas shopping and found something for everyone. The free gift wrap was an unexpected bonus!

I don't think Corner Bookstore needs a review but I still want to give them credit for what they are. It is a famous institution in Carnegie Hill and it also appears on screens - I spotted the place in one episode of Royal Pains. I always try to shop there instead of major bookstores because I see too many local shops and businesses close on Madison Avenue and this is a gem in the neighborhood. Cosy small bookstore with a good selection. I have to order books sometimes but that's easy. The dedicated staff give advice when needed. They are not overly friendly but they are always helpful. And they gift wrap nicely for free. It is also a quiet place despite many school aged children stopping by all the time. BTW the kids can participate to a book review twice a year. It is published on a bulletin and available in the store. Given the numerous schools nearby, you have a good sample of the students body.

My family has always loved the corner bookstore so this is tough to write. We always make sure to come in and buy several books because we want to support small bookstores. Every time we visit, we make sure to buy several books as a show of support. BUT we had a horrible incident the other day. My family went in on a crowded saturday and we bought $50 worth of books. My kids sat reading quietly and I read a few books with my younger child, who really enjoyed it. On sunday we came back to buy more books as presents (again in support of a bookstore we'd always loved.) I was reading with my younger child, quietly, making sure we weren't being too loud or bothering anyone (including my other child who was reading quietly next to us and who we didn't want to bother). As my child and I were reading, the gruff manager or owner (?) came up and told us, in front of the entire crowded store, to be more quiet. Really? He had to do that? I've been shopping there and heard parents reading with their children and always found it lovely. It just seemed so particularly rude and unkind. Also why have benches set up in front if you don't want parents reading with their children? Again, I can't stress enough how not loud we were. And we'd only been reading out loud for about five minutes (it was a short picture book). Sadly, that's it for us at the corner bookstore. We'll go to Amazon and Barnes and Noble from now on. And Books of Wonder, where they couldn't be more friendly and welcoming.

This is an excellent bookstore. This is far more imaginative and well curated than Barnes & Noble. This is a bookstore to browse and get lost in.

I love this bookstore! They have a nice selection of books and they will order books for you too, which is great. It's a very cozy bookshop, in a great location. They offer free gift wrap also!

Now that they've accepted post 2000 marketing platforms, it's great to see what they are up to. Corner Bookstore has always had great readings. And not they've got a great new website and Facebook page. I still do not like paying retail for books, but I love knowing about their book events, and will buy a book or two at them.

I went to the Corner Bookstore last night for the first time for a book reading and the store is very charming. The staff was very helpful.

Cute little UES bookstore with nice selection. I had no trouble finding what I wanted when I visited and I still use their lion bookmark occasionally. I'd go 3.5 stars if I could.

The best bookstore I have ever been to (and I have been to way too many). Every book is thoughtfully chosen. As a rule, American "Little" bookstore often seem to be aimed at the "oh so sophisticated" New Yorker Magazine subscriber; this store aims higher, much higher. It is probably the only bookstore worth supporting in New York City.

I often patronize this bookstore because it is in my neighborhood and I like to support local retailers. I do wish that the salespeople were a bit kinder. They seem to have some disdain for their wealthy clients, most of whom seem polite and generally well behaved.

What a wonderful bookstore! The new Barnes & Noble on the Upper East side seems to be a coffee shop first, and a bookstore as a secondary objective, so I have been looking for a more authentic book store experience. Bingo. It is clear that everyone who works here is a reader, happy to give recommendations and order books. It is also attractive and cozy.

This is a genuinely wonderful bookstore, with a relatively small but eclectic variety of books, a great children's section and staff who are warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. I love the park bench-style benches for reading leisurely while deciding what to buy. I would say this is an old-fashioned bookstore and an old-fashioned book buying experience, except courtesy, knowledge and taste never go out of style - and the store has all of these qualities.
