Holiday Pop-Up Bars and Restaurants in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"After strolling through December Nights at Balboa Park, head over to this nearby neighborhood spot that transforms into a Christmas wonderland for the month of December. Strewn with lights and festive decorations, the restaurant is also offering a seasonal menu that includes drinks like the Peppermint Czar, made with peppermint vodka, Kahlua, eggnog, and nutmeg, and food specials like the Bobby, a hoagie dressed with oven roasted turkey breast, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and aioli." - Candice Woo

Came in for lunch after a stroll in Balboa Park. We were seated immediately and offered drinks right away. We split the fig burger (messy but delish) and nacho stack (messy but also delish). I asked for extra jalapeños and they delivered. The ambiance was great. Food was hot and mouthwatering. Service was efficient and timely.

Google
Great service and great selection of options. The pretzel bites were a great appetizer for everyone. The entree portion sizes were very large, we all walked away very content.

Google
We ordered online. The whole process from ordering to delivery was very easy and efficient. Food arrived a few minutes before it was promised, and it was great. The Chinese chicken salad was fresh and generous in size; the chicken grilled sandwich was delicious made on a wonderful sour dough bread. We loved everything about this experience and will do it again when we vacation in San Diego again.

Stumbled here on accident and couldn't be happier! Prices were good. Food delicious. Plenty of specials. Parking is difficult. We will be returning! Loved the drinks too

Google
Wow, these benedicts are good and the hollandaise sauce was really good. Other times I've come here the sauce wasn't really good but this time it was awesome. I would really come back back to try this again and would really recommend this 👌.

Google
Sliders and anchors was great. Cider did not tests like cider . They were so busy that the guy was running. None stop I really felt bad for the servers but he was very nice and try to make things better and apologized every time he would come to our table.

Google
My friend and I went last Thursday for happy hour and dinner. It was our first time here. The ambiance was festive and spacious. Our server was attentive. Happy hour is from 4-7 pm. My friend ordered shrimp ceviche and I ordered fish & chips. They gave large portions. My friend didn’t enjoy her ceviche since it was spicy. It is a nice place to hang out with friends and it is close to Balboa Park.

Google
Pretzel Bites, Sandwich Cubano and Bang bang salmon bowl highly recommended! Wide variety of draft beer..

Yelp
3-4 Stars. I came around 2:55 pm when it was on and off sprinkling. We sat on their side patio since we had a group of 8. They luckily had thick sun sails to protect us from the rain above. They also turned on 1 heater, they had another one but it only lasted for a short period of time. The workers were really nice and patient when it came to us looking at the menu to order. Just something to note, there's a surcharge and for parties of 8 or more, they have an automatic 20% gratuity (even if you ask for the checks to be split). I ordered the $21 Corner Drafthouse Burger with a side of fries (regular). I requested no onions and they also ask you how you like your burger to be cooked. I'm not particularly sure, so I just said "well." The burger comes with tomato, leafy lettuce, cheese, and a secret sauce. The sauce didn't have lots of flavor if you were to compare it to 1000 island vibe. The bun was toasted, but quite fluffy as well. It also came with a very very juicy slice of pickle. The fries were beautifully done with a nice and light crisp and a fluffy interior. It was a good lunch, but I'm not sure it's worth $27.72! Notes: To drink, most of us just had iced water. In my opinion, the water didn't taste very good. The waitresses didn't think to give us napkins except for the 4x4 napkin under the French fry holder. We had to go back in to ask (we are on the patio). She did ask if we needed anything else, and at the time-- I personally didn't need anything. But half way through, I wish she came back out to ask-- I would have liked more ketchup...Maybe next time, they can fill up the little metal cup more. On the other hand, some people would say it's nice that she left us alone so that we could all converse. My friend had the $21 Cubano with Sweet Potato Fries. It contained mojo pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, garlic aioli on a pressed hoagie roll. He said it was delicious, and saved half to take home for dinner. The waitress said it was a popular menu item! My other friend, ordered the ~$23 Mushroom Bacon Swiss Burger but subbed the actual meat patty with the Impossible Patty. She said it was a little freaky with how much it looked like a real patty when cooked. I also had to do a double take! Overall, it was a nice spot near Balboa Park (easy straight line walk from the bridge) to come with friends. For me personally, the price is already on the higher side and having the surcharge + the gratuity was a bit of an overkill esp since the gratuity was 20%. If I'm alone, I probably wouldn't come again. But I did hear that the pretzel bites are a crowd pleaser-- which is great for people that drink beer as well (because they pair well together). If you're one of those people, this spot would be for you!

Yelp
Absolute perfection. A very cozy place with a very welcoming staff, I came here for dinner recently. Indulged in one of their varied offerings of local craft beer. The Harland Brewing Co. Japanese lager was wonderful. The real surprise was the quality and variety of food offered here. While most drafthouses or breweries generally only serve pub food, The Corner Drafthouse goes beyond that. I opted for the Chinese Chicken Salad, and let me tell you, it was marvelous. Great mixture of greens and add-ins within the salad, but perfectly cooked, warm chicken strips on top really made this dish special. I initially looked at it and thought I'd never be able to eat it all, but sure enough, I took it all in and enjoyed every minute of it. A definite place to stop that has an ample amount of indoor and outdoor seating. I did see a family come in, and crayons with a coloring mat were promptly brought to the table to entertain the little ones. Oh, I will be back!

Yelp
Great place to watch the game! However, today they didn't have Baileys for my Irish Coffee. They also didn't have one of the liquors for the Signature Cocktail of theirs my friend ordered from their menu. They seem to having serious liquor inventory issues at this time. They didn't have liquor for 2/4 of us.

Yelp
Came back for another date night. I think the key is to sit at the bar. We sat at a regular table this time and the service was a little slower and we had to flag down our server a couple times for drinks. The food was decent. The only thing I can recommend is check your tab before you pay. We asked the server kindly to print out our receipt since it seemed a little more than what we had ordered. When he came back with the printed receipt. He said everything seemed accurate to me. He over charged us by almost $20.. will definitely give this place another try but recommend sitting at the bar instead! Still had a fun bingo night!

Yelp
Every time that I eat at Corner Drafthouse, it's a treat for my taste buds! Most often I haunt this Banker's Hill spot for brunch, but I went for early dinner/happy hour today and OMG!!! The pretzel bites are a must-buy every time. We got the Fig Burger and Cubano today to share and both were delicious. That burger is incredible. With friendly staff and a good beer selection, this is a great spot for foodies and beer lovers alike. They have trivia on Wednesdays and one of these days I'll actually bring a team to play... they also have all day happy hour on Mondays!

Anthony C.

Yelp
The staff were very accommodating and did well in friendliness, prompt seating, and food delivery. My dissatisfaction was with the Cobb Salad. The salad greens primarily consisted of endive lettuce. The chicken slices were dry. The remaining items within the salad were mediocre in quantity, quality and flavor. I believe I may return to this restaurant but would definitely not request the Cobb Salad.

Yelp
Came here on a business trip with co-workers in early December. Really cute holiday vibe on the inside, and loved all the open windows letting the warm California air in. Food was solid especially when you need something to pair with the cocktails. Holiday cocktails were sweet but tasty. Service could have been a little better in terms of attentiveness but staff was super friendly and nice.

Yelp
We've been here a few times for drinks as it's close to our apartment & has a great casual/fun vibe, but this time warranted a review after we got food. The Ahi Tuna Bowl was surprisingly SO good?!!! The fish tasted fresh, loooved the chipotle aioli, and a massive portion. The wings with gochujang sauce were great too, pretty crispy, good sized & a tangy flavorful sauce. Westin was our bartender/waiter and was sooo lovely! He was very attentive despite it getting busy and him juggling both drinks& tables. We appreciated him for having us watch the games for about 3 hours, hahah. They gave football game day deals w/ $2 off beers & snacks, which is fun :) Such an awesome local sports bar!! Highly recommend.

Manuel B.

Yelp
Thank you for your response here is more detailed of what I encountered. I've visited The Corner Drafthouse before, usually during Niners games, and never had an issue, so this visit was surprising. We were seated and waited until one male staff member came from behind the bar. He handed us menus, pointed at the QR code without a word, and then walked away. He never returned, and after waiting quite a while we decided to leave. I understand things can get busy, but the service felt dismissive, which was disappointing given my past positive experiences here. I hope this feedback helps improve future visits.

Yelp
Second time here. I live close by and never stopped? I wish I would have long ago because it's a really great spot. The employee all have great personalities. The bartender is always on point. Even gave my little MinPin a slice of bacon. She loves him forever now. I encourage you to try this wonderful place. The food is fresh and delicious. Can't wait to see you again! .

Yelp
Bartenders are the best, super friendly. Great variety of food - the wings are great and so is the bacon mac and cheese

Yelp
Such a fun and hip location to eat at. I highly recommend the buffalo cauliflower. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was packed!

Yelp
Stopped in here after a work meeting for a drink and a bite to eat. Our server was great especially when we couldn't decide on what we wanted to snack on. We decided on the ahi tuna nachos and they did not disappoint. They came with a little seaweed salad, cucumber, edamame, and a delicious sauce. They are known for selling pint glasses that they store for you and it comes with some really cool perks and discounts by joining their program. Their pints also include two extra ounces! Definitely a great spot to check out!

Yelp
All night happy hour on Monday? Count me in. Some weeks start of harder than others and those weeks mean Monday needs to include happy hour. As a big sports girl I love heading to a bar that has all of the major games on and this is one of them. On Mondays they have all day happy hour which includes $2 odd all snacks, sliders, beers, specialty cocktails, and house wine. Not to mention they have 70 beers on tap which is crazy! Big shout out to Dee and Ryan! We are excited to be part of the mug club thing (I'm sorry if it has a name I can't remember) but we are so excited!

Yelp
Good local place with decent food and excellent drinks. We had the sliders and the pretzel bites. Both were yummy and tasty. We had old fashions to drink and again, yummy. Nice place with a. Great staff

Yelp
Eaten here a few times. Great vegan burger here and great beer selection. Worth a stop. Nice ambience.

Yelp
I came here for a really quick drink. The Padres game was on so several people were at the bar watching. I was interested in their extensive beer list without wanting to figure it out so I left it to the bartender. His recommendation was spot on and the beer was really good.
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Slightly underwhelming experience-my first cocktail choice was somehow unavailable and it took a very long time to bring my second (my fiancé slowed down on trying his drink to try to match me.) The seating was also uncomfortable-we had a four top on the outside patio and the chairs were way too low for comfortably sitting at the table. Happily the food was quite tasty-we had the nacho stack with our request for no jalapeños honored, buffalo chicken wings, and the pulled pork sliders (not pictured) to round out our meal. The nachos were the clear favorite though drowning in beer cheese just for the amazing textures and flavors.

Yelp
This restaurant was really nice to eat at! They have quite the variety of beers to choose from which was really nice for someone who is picky about beer. Their portion sizes were good, I had the cheeseburger and it was pretty big! I was initially worried it wouldn't be enough food but I was definitely full. The toppings tasted fresh and the French fries were amazinggggg! We also had the wings but I will say the wings were a little pricey for what you get. The service was a little bit slow it took a while to get our food order in and we ended up going up to the bar to order it because we were getting too hungry. Overall a really nice experience, I just chose 4 stars because it wasn't affordable for a lunch. We ended up paying around $100 which was painful and didn't feel like it was entirely worth it. The beers were around $9 which is like nightclub prices so that stung. I would consider coming back!

Yelp
I was overwhelmed with the choices of over 70 drafts so our servers Brian & Bri held my hand. The food & drinks were were excellent & well priced. Great neighborhood vibe! Get here!
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
Great spot! The place is decked out in Padres and San Diego FC decor, so I assumed they would put the games on! Our server was super helpful and gave great beer recommendations. Loved the outdoor seating--perfect for a beautiful San Diego afternoon. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Erica B.

Yelp
Love this place! My friend lives nearby and we went over for drinks and apps. Highly suggest the buffalo cauliflower and the ahi nachos (huge and really good). Service was awesome. Such a fun bar!!! We will be back soon!
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
I love the looks and ambience of the brewery but got a pretty grumpy server. When approached I asked what pilsner he could recommend, to which he gave me a very snarky response - "I have over 75 beers on draft, there are quite a bit", sounding so annoyed with me for even asking. With no help I just chose the first pilsner on the list and it was rather flat. Then that server got switched with another one (wonder why) and gentleman was very pleasant and made up for shortcomings of the first one by just being friendly.

Nicholas S.

Yelp
This is a great little spot to grab some good food and watch a game. It definitely gets packed, but that's the downside of it being a good bar with some good food.
google avatar

Justin V.

Yelp
Great customer service, amazing draft selection and the food was quick and tasted amazing!!
google avatar

Jazzy P.

Yelp
Sliders were great. Our Server was cute and polite but basically not around that much. Good spot after the parade All staff seemed helpful

Brogan R.

Yelp
This gastropub was amazing, the food was well seasoned and had great presentation. We were looking for a quick lunch in Balboa and gave this place a shot. The Corner Drafthouse burger was delicious and my girlfriend tried the cauliflower and brussel sprouts. We gave the beer a shot too and their selection was great! We are very happy with our service and are definitely coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed the breakfast burrito. Wasn't a fan of the churro pancakes. Great customer service . This is my 2nd time eating here . I would go back again .
google avatar

Ralph E.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar feel with awesome service and good selection of food and drinks. We tried the burger and sliders and were very tasty. The fries had some seasoning that we enjoyed as well. The server was awesome, no nonsense and everything came out perfectly as ordered. The game was on and it was moderately busy so noise level was slightly elevated but not unbearable. This is not a gourmet experience but solid food choices and excellent service so a great choice for after dinner or a weekend stop.

Yelp
My friends and I decide to go here for our annual holiday drink meet up. We used to go somewhere else, but this year wanted a place that took reservations. The decor here was cute (look at my picture for the sign with lights), so it passed our vibe check. I managed to find metered street parking. The sign said 2 hours from 8-6, so I only had to pay for about an hour since I got there at 5. We loved how the holiday drinks came in cute cups (check my pic of the peppermint czar). We asked our server what he recommends, so one of my friends ordered the ahi poke bowl and I proceeded to have order envy. My other friend ordered the pork bulgogi bowl and I got the fig burger hut asked for onion rings instead of fries. We all needed to go boxes because we got full after making it through about halfway through our orders. The fig burger wasn't my favorite burger I've had, but it was decent and had an interesting flavor. The ahi poke bowl was great! We'll definitely be back again to try more of the menu.

Yelp
We were looking for a place after the zoo before catching a flight at the airport. This place popped up with a great selection food available. We had the pleasure of having Eric as our server. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and super efficient with his service. It always amazes me the memory that some servers have and Eric has some mad skills!! I was looking for something a little lighter so did the Cobb salad with grilled shrimp. It was a great balance of all of the toppings and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. It was also just the right size to fill me up, but not over full. My kids wanted chicken tenders and a burger. The burger came out cooked perfectly and my daughter loved it. It was the adult fig burger (she had the fig jam on the side), but she really enjoyed it and there was some left to share. The fries were also cooked and seasoned well. The chicken tenders for my other daughter were larger and plenty of food for her. They were also fried just right and were juicy as well. My husband ordered the short rib grilled cheese and he really enjoyed his item as well. They have some great seasonal drinks as well. I tried the apple cider mimosa and it was really yummy. No

Bella M.

Yelp
So happy to have this gem in my neighborhood. The bartenders are always in a good mood, attentive and efficient. Filled with locals, dog friendly and they have trivia, that is taken very seriously. This place is always super clean. The wings are delicious for the price, although I do feel that some of their food is priced a bit steep... but it's a drafthouse, you're here for the beer and sports. I absolutely love the pickle beer they carry, a must try if you want to get funky at The Corner.
google avatar

Shirley O.

Yelp
Overall, we had a nice time here, but felt rushed since they wanted to clear the tables for trivia night. We arrived at 5:30 pm and trivia started at 6:45 pm. I ordered the salmon sandwich, truffle fries and Eternal Sunshine. The sandwich was tasty and the fries were soggy. My drink was refreshing with no buzz - it seemed more like a mocktail. It's a casual, laid back kind of place. I would stop by again for beer and appetizers only.

Tisa B.

Yelp
The food is always delicious. Drinks are fun in the location is great. The service is friendly & if you're into sports it's easy to watch on several big screens.

Yelp
I had the Tennessee Hot Chicken brunch item, with Dragon's Milk Punch cocktail (bulleit rye, mr. blacks cold brew liquor, pineapple, lemon, creme de cacao and milk). The chicken was tasty but the eggs were overcooked (well done when they should be somewhat runny). I enjoyed the sauce and the overall taste of it, but wish that there's one more piece of chicken. The cocktail is great! I love that it's not as milky as pictured. The staff said they managed to distill it in such a way it's clear. Not too sure what that means, but hey, I love it!
google avatar

Jean-Charles N.

Yelp
Nice Ambiance Decent Food. I liked their Mac and cheese Good selection of beers And great service
google avatar

Mina N.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was pretty good. Was a little disappointed with my not filled all the way cocktail. Places that do that, I just think it's tacky to serve someone a cocktail and not have the right fitting glassware. (See picture - I did not have a sip of it before the picture). Cocktail was alright, didn't choose to have another. Everyone else liked their beers but that's pretty straught forward. No complaints on food - we got the Chinese chicken salad (although asked for more dressing as it was rather dry), Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich, Short Rib Grilled Cheese, and the Fig Burger. Their sides of fries and onion rings were on the tastier side. Nothing on the restaurant, as we should've done more research for more suitable lunch spot but just an FYI...not exactly a baby/stroller friendly restaurant for seating unless you're outside on the back patio. Majority if not all seating inside were high tops but it wasn't the warmest so we made it work, but it was awkward to tend to baby in the stroller at a high top table.

Yelp
I've had this place on my list for a really long time! The first time I went was for an event they had. There was a station with fresh salsas and condiments to go with our tacos. For meats, they had carne asada, pork, and chicken that were freshly carved. There were a few fall specialty drinks, so we tried the Better Call Fall, which was infused with Captain Morgan Sliced Apple. We also got something with a skull for decoration and it was pretty yummy and a mocktail for me. I came back in December to see their holiday decor and try some of their other menu items. For drinks, I opted for the Lavender Orgeat Fizz mocktaill, which was very refreshing. Hubby chose the "Lead Dog Churro Please" from the 12 beers of Christmas list. For apps, we shared the lemon pepper wings and buffalo wings. The wings were crispy, but the the dry rub was faint in flavor. The fish and chips were huge! I liked that it came with and vinegar sauce for dipping. Hubby loved it so much! I chose the cardiff crack steak for my main dish, which was nicely presented with fries and corn. This entree was delicious and very filling. I still haven't tried any of their desserts, but need to save room next time!

Yelp
Nice cuisine for a bar and they are very attentive to find your sporting event on the TV. Cocktails are awesome dliecious cubano sandwich and also chicken sandwiches balsamic brussel sprouts too.
google avatar

Xtina A.

Yelp
Review your food to go orders don't forget what the ingredients consist of, so you'll have satisfied customers wanting to come back. There was no egg in the salad
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
My first time here and will say not my Last, the staff was all so friendly checking up on you asking if you need anything but not just one all, how nice, the decorations was of holiday cheer and love the menu from chili, wings, chicken and waffles, and a huge breakfast burrito love the Mocktails, and also coffeee with whip cream, marshmallows and peppermint really made my day
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
Stopped by here after the pride event for food. The atmosphere of this little spot was on point, super clean and just a great setup. I probably wouldn't go back for the food. The Chinese chicken salad was super mid, and not worth $21. Everyone at our table was rather unimpressed with the food. It might be a fun spot for drinks, but can't recommend eating here. Service was super on point though, very friendly.
google avatar

Sami L.

Yelp
I was very impressed by this place! We chose to come here because its close to the Old Globe, but I would come here just to come here! We came on opening night, and the game was on and it was very loud. It didn't bother us tho! The service was fast and friendly and she had some great recs. Highly recommend any cocktail, the Buffalo cauliflower and the ahi tuna appetizer. It was full of flavor, but light and fresh at the same time. Love that! Moderately price, but worth it! Thank you drafthouse for blowing me away!

Nicklaus S.

Yelp
Best bar in San Diego if you like good food, amazing staff, good beer, good cocktails, sports, trivia, events and community. There's a reason this place has stayed open while others around it have closed over the years. It's just great. Great people frequent it and great people work it. Cobb salad is hands down the best in town. 100%

Christine A.

Yelp
The place is small and can get crowded. I went on a Monday afternoon and there was already a loud crowd seated at the bar. But the service was great and the food was pretty good.
google avatar

Jess B.

Yelp
We love to stop in here for trivia night on Wednesdays at 7pm and have also joined their classic mug club. The staff is friendly and the food is actually really good. Recently they decorated for the holidays so if you haven't been you must go check it out! Fun casual dining near balboa park and the San Diego Zoo.

Yelp
Been here a few times and it has always been mediocre, but I've never expected much. The food is bland and the cocktails are too sweet, but it is convenient from where I live when time is tight. However my last experience solidifies that this place is no longer worth my time. I stopped in for a quick drink while I waited for my order from the deli down the street. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes and nobody came by. They saw me sitting there, but I guess I wasn't worth the effort.
