The 23 Best Turkish Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"The Counter serves Turkish food with exciting twists that work: babaganoush has white chocolate in it and tzatziki has a nice tang from pickles. The starters and small plates are the best part so bring a date to this low-lit Notting Hill spot—one who’s down to split sweet and salty clotted cream and the sensational pide bread starter." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, jake missing

The 22 Best Restaurants In Notting Hill - London - The Infatuation

"The Counter, a low-lit, moody spot, does Turkish food with exciting twists that work, like white chocolate babaganoush and tzatziki with tangy pickles. While you’ll find dishes like spiced lamb liver and adana kebab on the menu, we think the starters and small plates are the best part. Bring a date who’s down to split a bunch of dishes, and request the lower seating area where it feels like you’re part of the action without it being chaotic." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

The Hit List: New London Restaurants To Try Right Now

"Enter The Counter through floor-to-ceiling velvet curtains and find a scene fit for an HBO series about 30-somethings living their best lives. On the tan banquette, old friends share hot gossip over gloriously zingy cold marinated tuna, while couples gaze longingly at each other and their truffle honey-drenched mastelo saganaki centrepiece. The modern Mediterranean dishes are inventive (see: the deconstructed bulgur vine leaves) and the juicy gambero rosso prawns, glistening with oil, are a must-order. It’s a decidedly ‘Soho on a Saturday night’ restaurant, but hold the chaos and keep the charm and Greek cuvée flowing." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, daisy meager, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

London’s New Restaurant Openings

"The Counter is opening in Soho. We’re fans of the original Notting Hill spot, but there’ll be some changes with the new location. This Kingly Court sibling will take its inspiration from Aegan mezze grill restaurants. Expect open-fire cooking, sharing dishes, and a cocktail and listening bar—Under The Counter.  We checked out The Counter and added it to the Hit List." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

The Counter - Soho - Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"Like Martha Stewart and respectable people managers, we all have different identities for different situations. There’s the you at 2pm on holiday—holding a fishbowl of Aperol, reigniting a long-abandoned Marlboro habit. And then there’s the you meeting the in-laws—averaging 14 mentions of the word ‘please’ an hour. Which brings us onto The Counter, a Soho restaurant with inhalable, pinkies-up takes on Mediterranean dishes and two distinctly different personalities depending on when you visit. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Come Saturday night, the scene is fit for an HBO series about 30-somethings living their best lives. Bottles of Greek cuvée float to tables, while couples gaze longingly at each other and their truffle honey-drenched mastelo saganaki. On the tan banquette, old friends share hot gossip over the gloriously zingy cold marinated tuna, theatrically mixed tableside with lumpfish roe and avocado. It’s a hot destination vacation by way of one of the planet’s most frenzied streets. But tragically, we can’t all permanently be OOO. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch The Counter’s daytime personality is more appropriate for meals with people you would never swear in front of—parents, clients, children in Ralph Lauren. The modern Mediterranean dishes are still just as impressively inventive and the olive oil on the gambero rosso glistens out on the terrace. But without the throbbing hum of Costa Del Soho, it’s less fun. So come on the weekend when free-flowing mezcal cocktails won’t result in a disciplinary email and enjoy a restaurant designed for the you who knows how to have a good time. Food Rundown Lamb Tartare The bell pepper paste in this is musty and powerful, in a good way. The pomegranate, mint, and lettuce leaves—that double as nature’s taco shells—keep it in the genre of refreshing, expert starter. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch White Chocolate Babaganoush We’re always pretty suspicious of dishes that prompt heated arguments about the sanctity of tahini before you’ve even ordered. The white chocolate in this is subtle but after the third bite, the medley of rose, dukkah, and chocolate is a lot for one human tongue to handle. One to share or, if solo, skip. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Cheese Saganaki Code name: the mastelo mistress. We’ve been in a long, committed relationship with halloumi for at least a decade but between the pistachio crunch, hypnotic elasticity, and drizzle of truffle honey, this is a real head-turner. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Gently Marinated Tuna Gently marinated tuna—a profound band name, an even better dish. Super fresh and super zesty, with a creamy finish thanks to the avocado. This is our favourite thing here. Also, it’s mixed tableside which counts as going to the theatre. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Saffron & Crab Orzotto The best thing about this orzotto is the broth it comes in—it’s salty from the crab with a perfect little kick of samphire and saffron. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Gambero Rosso Finger lickin’ goodness, crustacean edition. It’s a simple equation—seafood plus a generous glug of olive oil plus sumac aioli, equals a dish that simply breathes salt air. Baklava Cheesecake MIA: the baklava element of this cheesecake. It lacks the sensational sweetness of our favourite Turkish dessert but that aside, it’s an epic portion of fluffy, milky cheesecake, baked Basque-style. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Delicious spot for Greek inspired fare - loved all the dips, the octopus, the prawns, the orzo and the Greek salad. Nice cocktail list and well made cocktails. Lovely outdoor seating area, and the indoor space looked super cute as well. Service was quick to start then it was a bit tough to get their attention / pay the bill. Minor annoyance for an otherwise lovely meal, would recommend.

We came following some really good reviews on here. The concept if great and the service was also good. The food, in my view was a little bit underwhelming. The cooking of the food itself is on point (for example the chicken and octopus were cooked excellently) however, we felt the flavours were lacking in many dishes. The cheese dish was superb though! As was the white chocolate baba ghanoush. The Baklava cheesecake is also EXCELLENT!

The place is fantastic, nice decor, friendly staff. I heard from them is a new place, and definitely we will return more times and bring friends with us. The food is divine. Very affordable prices, amazing cocktails and one of the first times in London I enjoyed everything that I asked and my partner too. It’s awesome go to a place and everything is nicely done and executed with professionalism and smiles! Highly recommend to everyone!!!!

Amazing food and great plates to share with friends and family. It is a great mix of Greek and Turkish cuisine. The only issue was that the prices were too high for the small portions served.

We decided to give this place a try after reviewing the menu. I ordered the beef cheeks, but I am greatly disappointed. There were more beans than beef. Not worth £20 for it. The decor was nice but it didn't match the quality of the food. My partner had the spinach salad with pine nuts. He said he could cook easily but with more seasoning. We thought we're ordered French fries but were served chips instead ?!

Great place for a date, very cozy but still quite modern, hip ambience. The food was incredible, especially the white chocolate baba ganoush is a MUST. We also ordered the kibbeh and the hummus, which were also very nice, and the aubergine which was alright. The dirty martini was also great, with a special mention to the olive which is worth another visit just for that.

This could be the most stylish Turkish restaurant in London. The ambiance is exceptional, and the location is very central. The staff are very polite and attentive. The food is above average, especially the white chocolate aubergine which is quite an authentic mezze. However, the prices are quite high compared to similar places. Therefore, I'm not sure if these prices are worth the food.

A lovely environment with amazing polite and friendly staff. Alejandro was so lovely and catered for all our needs. The food was beautifully presented and tasted scrumptious. The decor is lovely with a warm vibe. I would definitely come again and recommend to friends and family.
