8 Spots for Sushi in Charlotte, North Carolina

"Sushi and burgers? It may sound odd but it definitely works at Cowfish, where diners can choose from a variety of specialty rolls or create their own. For the ultimate fusion experience, check out the “burgushi” section of the menu, which has items like double-cheeseburger roll wrapped in soy paper." - Parker Milner, Erin Perkins

The food was great and the vibe was awesome! Service communication could have been better. I ordered a beer when the entree arrived at the table and received it when I was finished. Although I was told it was a technical issue because they were switching kegs I had no idea because that wasn’t communicated. Overall good experience and would recommend to others!

Everything was delicious and prepared with high quality, including the hand crafted cocktails. The service was also excellent! Our waitress was very attentive, polite, and answered all of our questions. The lobster and crab spring rolls are a must get!

Google
Best burger I've had in Charlotte. Perfectly cooked to my liking (medium rare). Just overall delicious food. The milkshakes are also delicious. My wife and I have been here twice and it's quickly become one of our favorite spots. The atmosphere was always really great their outdoor patio was beautiful. The service was also really solid. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She even gave us some recommendations. It's a little on the pricier side, but for the quality we definitely think it's worth it.

Today we went here for the first time because our friend recommended it. We loved it! Especially the deliverance roll(very special), the kid loved the calamari and fusion bento box 🍱 The only thing we didn’t expect was we went on a Wednesday night, we waited for 50 minutes for our orders to come out, the kids were getting impatient because it passed the bed time. I guess there’s a lot of takeout because the restaurant was not very busy at the time. So be mindful to calculate in some wait time if you are out with little ones.

Google
Been here several times over the years, not a huge fan of the sushi because it's a larger bite. The crab dip with wontons is good. Had burgers this time and they were great. Service was great too. They are renovating and we sat outside on a nice evening.

Loved every meal. Bento box is a great deal to get a mix of different items. Kids meals are healthy and lots of choices. Fast and friendly service.

Food was delicious and the service was fast. The atmosphere and art work are so fun. We were seated right away and our server was kind enough to make recommendations on the menu and to enquire about allergies before we ordered without needing to be asked. I was assured that the food was allergen safe on delivery even though it wasn't our server who dropped it off. Overall lovely experience, would definitely go back.

I’m in town for work and my co worker and I came across the Cowfish. This is a must visit especially if you like burgers and or sushi. This was our first time but won’t be our last. The menu has so many great options. We decided the best way to get the full experience is to share everything and we are glad we did. The food was fresh and flavorful. The service was too notch. We had the pleasure of having Anna be our server. She was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great suggestions. She was also very attentive to us and made our first time wonderful. The manager on duty Matthew stoped by our table and was just as nice as Anna. You can tell they have staff that cares about the entire customer experience. We will be back, probably before our three day work trip is over. Yes the food and experience were that GOOD!!!

Yelp
The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar - A Tasty Gluten Free Burger! My friend and I recently visited The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar in Charlotte, and we were both thrilled with the experience! As two people who are gluten-free, dining out can sometimes be challenging, but Cowfish absolutely exceeded our expectations. First, let's talk about the gluten-free options--they're fantastic! We were both able to enjoy delicious burgers with their gluten-free buns, which were soft, flavorful, and paired perfectly with our meals. I ordered the Grilled Salmon BLT, and it was a total hit. The salmon was perfectly cooked, flaky, and flavorful, while the bacon was delightfully crispy. The sweet potato fries were just as impressive--soft and fluffy on the inside with a beautifully crunchy exterior. Dipping them in Cowfish Sauce took the experience to the next level. What stood out even more was how seriously the staff took food allergies. It was reassuring to see such attention to detail and care, making the meal not only delicious but stress-free.

Yelp
Cowfish is a sushi/ burger joint that is constantly praised for their burgers. We decided to give it a go! I went with a "barebones" burger- halfway a pound of beed with cheddar cheese and the usual accoutrements. Burger was just OK. Good quality meat, cooked to the right medium rare point, very juicy but not really seasoned, so it hit on the bland side. Meat to bun ratio was on the breadier side, and the bun was carton dry. The first bite was disappointing followed by the same until finished. I am give it an 8 minute rating. Service was also slow.

Yelp
We came here because it was only a 10 minute walk from the Doubletree hotel. Loved how easy and quick it was to get bar seating on a Saturday night, and the bartender was extremely kind and welcoming. The food was very tasty and would rival any fancy sushi restaurant in SoCal. The Firecracker roll was delicious and had a nice contrast in texture. The Cucumber Mint Tini was refreshing and tasty, but not strong. We didn't order any burgers to go with our sushi, but I'm very intrigued on how the 2 come together in their bento bowls. Overall, we enjoyed this restaurant for the sushi and service. Parking can be a little difficult because there are few spaces right in front of the restaurant.

Yelp
We came by on a weekday in mid afternoon so it was not busy. We were seated right away. It has been a long time since we visited Cowfish. They used to have a seared tuna burger but that is no longer on the menu. We ordered a roll and my daughter and I shared the truffle cheeseburger with truffle fries and my husband the Jalapeño popper burger. The burgers were good and juicy and the truffle fries were very tasty. They split the burger and fries in half And put on separate plates as we were sharing so that was a really nice touch.

Yelp
What's better in life than a good juicy turky burger? If your answer is sushi, then cowfish is YOUR place! I fell in love with this concept at Universal Citywalk in Orlando and I'm SO happy that there's one in Charlotte, just a short drive from where now live. The sushi is always consistent and solid. I love starting with the edamame flight - 4 different salts on a pile of edamame. Also consistent for me are the rainbow roll and shrimp tempura roll. Overall, a delicious spot!

Yelp
Nice and friendly staff. Food was good . The milkshakes were fantastic! Casual dining.

Yelp
The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar is one of my favorite spots for a casual dining. The restaurant offers a fusion of sushi and burgers. Their menu has a ton of variety, so there's something for everyone, whether you're craving sushi, burgers, or something in between. I usually go for their bento boxes, which are a great way to sample different items. The staff is friendly and attentive, even when the place gets busy, which can happen, especially on weekends. With colorful artwork on the walls and an upbeat vibe, it's a great place to enjoy a laid-back meal with friends or family!

Yelp
Large restaurant in South Park. Decent parking right out front and more parking in the area. The wait staff were very attentive and the manager was super friendly! He made sure to tell my sister and I they were happy to have us. The bison burger was super juicy, my first time having this meat in a burger and I loved it! Next time I'll definitely try their sushi!
google avatar

Yelp
My truffle burger was messy and DELICIOUS! The brioche bun was extremely stale - flaking apart in my hand. But I didn't order it for the bread. Fries were hot and fresh. Service was great. I had ordered it to go, but after checking my order, I ate at the bar.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Tonight I ordered DoorDash after a very long day. I created my own sushi roll with medium rare filet. I took a bite and was horrified. What was delivered was barely cooked. It was too raw to be eaten.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
CHEESEBURGOOSHI!! Went here for a dinner. I ordered the Mad Mango-Cado Roll and the Cheeseburgooshi. The roll I swapped tuna for shrimp. The roll was unimpressive but the Cheeseburgurooshi made up for it. It maybe the best non-fish roll I have had. It was just like eating a typical burger. I would go back strictly to try the other similar rolls. Overall, if you want sushi and you are with someone who doesn't like sushi, this place is perfect.

Yelp
Among the friends I was going to meet in Charlotte, Cowfish came up often in dining conversations. I was excited to visit here because I had seen on Yelp that this particular Cowfish rated high in Yelp's annual burger joint compilation. But I was mistakenly under the impression that you could actually order a sushi burger, i.e., sushi between two hamburger buns. Oh well, no matter, we still had a nice dinner. The group of 4 of us ordered from all corners of the menu: hamburgers, fish sandwiches, a Bento box, and rolls (nice that you can craft your own). My order among these was the salmon BLT; the salmon was cooked exactly to order and the whole sandwich was well made. The person at our table who ordered the hamburger was also very pleased with it. Service was good quality too. Our one significant comment was we think you can actually kick up the flavor a bit more, whether it means spices, flavorings, sauces, etc.. Everything was good, but some things could become "OMG Good" with some tweaking. Even so, this first visit to a Cowfish was memorable in good ways and they're now on my list of restaurants for which to search when traveling.

Yelp
So we weren't sure what to expect but took the chance with The Cowfish - WOW! Is an understatement! The menu has great apps & most of menu is sushi & burgers, very different & interesting combos! Our waitress, Bristal, was friendly & very helpful in helping us make selections: we ordered the Crab Rangoon dip with Thai chili sauce on the chips (delicious!). Then we ordered the Bento Box & the Double cheeseburgooshi - 2 of the most unique menu items we have ever ordered - pictures will tell the story but both were outrageously good! We don't usually order dessert but were urged to try the chocolate milkshake, which was filled with chocolate bits, topped with a brownie & chocolate mousse - again it was out of this world! This is a 5 star place that has outdoor seating & is kid friendly - we will always make this a stop when we are in Charlotte!

Yelp
Good milkshakes. Odd that we ordered two and they both came out in different size glasses.

Yelp
Since when does a restaurant serve a damn good Margherita in a 4oz glass? Not to mention with 1 of the largest blocks of ice? $15!

Yelp
My nephew and I had a little bit of time to kill, so we stopped by Cowfish for a few appetizers. They were amazing and helped us keep going until dinner. Whether it's a dull meal or a quick drop-in, Cowfish delivers great food and service.

Yelp
I recently ordered takeout and got the Arnold Hamandeggar burger with fries. This ham and egg breakfast burger was tasty and cooked properly. I'm definitely interested in coming back to try some of their intriguing sushi concepts, and I look forward to exploring more of their menu!

Yelp
Cowfish never disappoints! It's such an experience for the whole family! Their drinks are amazing and so is the food. The bento boxes are a great deal and let you order a bunch of stuff. Their rolls are HUGE and so good. The fish is all high quality and always fresh. Their jalapeño popper show stopper burger and the spicy togarashi shrimp appetizer are my personal favorites on the menu. The decor inside the restaurant is so clever and so much fun! Service is too notch! They check and double check for any dietary restrictions and the manager will come address it himself and make sure everything is okay. Parking can be tricky and if you're going on a weekend be sure to call ahead!

Yelp
A great little spot for lunch. Fresh sushi and burgers, a winning combination! Great food and location. Cute decorations. Cute idea for a fusion restaurant. Prices are reasonable, two mains and Diet Coke were $45. The service... we first walked into an empty restaurant, it was 3:15 on a Sunday afternoon. The hostess had a few waiters chatting with her. Asked for a table for 2, she responded that they'd full and our options are - eat outside on the patio (92F) or wait for an hour for a table. I was confused and looked around - the restaurant looked 90% empty. Didn't feel like eating sushi in 90-degree temperatures, so I asked if we could sit at the bar? Yes, she said, it's first come first serve, good luck. The bar was EMPTY except for employees (I assume on break? All at the same time?) eating and on their phones. Don't know why the bar option was not offered. I guess they really wanted to move people outside We grabbed a spot and ordered. Our waitress was really nice and friendly. Drink refills without asking. The food took a good 40 minutes to come out. Surprised because it was sushi - no cooking required and the place was EMPTY! overall a decent experience but I felt like I was in a parallel universe regarding the service.

Yelp
Our server was excellent, both friendly and attentive, able to answer all questions. It's a clever mash-up concept: burgers and sushi. Even the smart artwork is all mash ups. We had the goat salad with salmon and it was very good, but my burger bento box was less than stellar. The burger was small and dry, the fries were not hot, and the cucumber salad was old, sort of gray with color leeched out by the vinegar. The sushi was very good, however. I'd suggest ordering either a burger or sushi which might be fine on their own. Combining them was not so good.

Yelp
I love sushi. I love craft style hamburgers. I love an eclectic vibe. I love a huge bar with drink options galore. And a fish tank the size of Texas? That too! This place has it all. Visiting the South Park area for the first time, we enjoyed the great vibe of this restaurant and surroundings as well. Parking was a breeze. Even though the place was packed on a Saturday in between lunch and dinner, our wait was less than 5 minutes even though we were told it would be 20-25min. The food here was amazing. Yellowtail appetizer with jalapeño and ponzu sauce, crispy wonton nachos with ahi tuna and pick your own sliders. Sure, a $20 hamburger or $10-$20 sushi isn't cheap, but the quality and taste of the food reflected the price unbelievably well. The presentation of the food was also top notch. There is no question what type of casual yet upscale, fun and vibrant vibe this place wants to exude, and does it very well. Service? Impeccable. Ambiance? Outstanding. And c'mon, an electronic picture on the wall which resembles a fish tank with fish names such as Oprah Finfrey, Puffer Daddy, Mackerel Jordan and M.C Hammerhead is just priceless.

Yelp
When I heard about Cowfish I was very excited to see how they decided to fuse both cuisines in one and I made sure to stop by while I was in town. The restaurant is in a very nice location, inside was huge had plenty of seating, even had additional seating in a patio area outside that is covered. There was also a bar and sushi bar located in the middle of the restaurant. I had a bit of a hassle getting a seat, but I won't knock the hostess, I wanted a big table because I record a lot and she was trying to give me a small tabletop. I'm not sure what the miscommunication was but she was a little reluctant to give me a table, it was empty inside not sure what the issue was. Fortunately, I had a way better experience with my waiter he helped me through the menu items and made some suggestions for me (I'm always looking for my meal to fill me up) and got my food out quickly. The food was really good but honestly, I was underwhelmed by the fusion, maybe I played up the different concepts in my head or I picked the wrong food but nonetheless I don't want to give the wrong impression the food was GOOD. I would definitely recommend going and next time I am in Charlotte I will go back and try more food.

Yelp
We had a lonely time at Cowfish. Some had burgers and some had fish but we all loved our meals. The rolls I ordered were good and very fresh. Our server was bubbly and happy to make suggestions. She got forgetful toward the end of our experience. The space is nice. We sat on the patio on a crisp evening and enjoyed our visit.

Yelp
I was in Orlando last week and saw one of their other locations and by happenstance ended up in Charlotte! What's re the chances of finding 2/3 locations in under a week? We decided to try it today for lunch and it was good. I will say that dining in the restaurant probably justifies the price point. A kids meal is super reasonable at $9, but the adult sushi entree and burger were both $22 which is a bit steep. You do get a ton of food, so imo it was worth it. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sushi. I had the tropical storm roll which is basically a Cali roll topped with salmon, tuna and yellowtail and topped with Japanese Mayo tobiko and eel sauce. The portion for the roll was MASSIVE and there was a ton of fresh fish on top. I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality considering this place isn't just sushi and it's a chain. Very yummy. My boyfriend got a black truffle burger and the burger was also knockout. Very large portion and the truffle fries were also amazing. The burger was so tender and juicy. The kids meal was massive. No one was able to finish their food. I would recommend this place bc everything was delicious and for the price you get large servings.

Yelp
Someone wanted to open a restaurant and couldn't decide between burgers or sushi so here we are and I love it lol. The burgers are high end - good but nearly $20 (because of the quality of the meat, which I can appreciate). The fries are great too! We grabbed a burger and a tempura roll to share as well as a couple cocktails. They're cocktail menu was diverse with good options! Interior is fun and inviting, and the service was good! I'd come back but will have to definitely be prepared to spend on a pricier lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
This a nice spot to grab a fun Meal. The sushi was good and service was very attentive. They sang to me for my birthday

Yelp
The Cowfish is an interesting concept that is sure to have something for everyone! I came in for lunch on a weekday, and it was busy without being packed. For an app, we ordered the crab rangoon dip, which was very rich and a hefty portion - I ended up taking home leftovers since it was too much for 2 people. There are LOTS of options - from burgers to sushi to salads and more - but my heart needed to try the "Burgushi" section of the menu. I went with the Fusion Specialty Bento Box with featured mini burger and pick of specialty sushi (I picked the Miss Moffits Roll). This also came with sweet potato fries, edamame, and Thai cucumbers, so it's a great amount of food and variety. Also, it turned out to be our lucky day, because we got two free milkshakes as well! There was one that tasted like caramel & coffee and another that tasted like Snickers. They were thick and creamy and perfect. YUM!

Yelp
It was Wednesday, I'm still in North Carolina and have a craving for burgers when we found, Cowfish Sushi and Burgers in Charlotte, NC, Gotta start my review by saying this isn't just a place to eat; it's a destination! Nestled in the safe and vibrant area by The Village at SouthPark, it's a haven for food enthusiasts and explorers alike. Need parking? They've got you covered! As for the experience inside, picture this: a kaleidoscope of colors blending seamlessly in a spotless, vibrant space. And the food? Hold onto your taste buds because the lamb burger is a flavor explosion! And that strawberry shake? Mind-blowing! Our server Jeremy's service matches the fantastic atmosphere, making this spot a must-visit for anyone craving a fusion of deliciousness and a lively dining experience. Highly recommend this locally owned business with 5 stars to Charlottes many visitors like me and locals alike

Yelp
We ate here in Charlotte ! Food was amazing ! The lobster spring roll was sooo good! I can't remember the sushi rolls we got it was close to a crunch roll
google avatar

Carrie J.

Yelp
We took our 4 year old for the first time and it went well! The only tough part is the waiting as they don't take reservations but they do have a waitlist option that helps. They have nice seating for waiting and the fun cowfish outside for the kids to play on. We got the egg roll appetizer which was great! We all got bento boxes and everyone loved it. They had grilled cheese, fries and fruit as an option for our daughter which was a huge hit. There is minimal parking right out front of the restaurant but tons of parking in a short walking distance.

Fred F.

Yelp
First time there. Loved it . We usually go to EEZ in Berkdale Village . Both are Great .
google avatar

Stacy E.

Yelp
This place has great bento box choices and unique sushi burgers. The location seems small but it is extremely spacious with a wrap around bar and amazing patio seating. There is also a unique blue aquarium to view while at the bar area. The staff are super friendly and very knowledgeable of menu and beverage pairing with foods. Parking is a bit tricky since the shopping center is small
google avatar

Jenna M.

Yelp
Y'all!!! This is a must stop!! So unique! A huge menu to guarantee there is something for everyone! I love that you can get the bento box and switch things out! We of course tried the cheeseburgerooshi roll and a bento box. There were 2 of us and it was beyond enough food! The fried pickles are perfect!!! We had a great server as well. If you download the app, you can join the waitlist ahead of time. This is crucial for a weekend to not have to wait!! We cannot wait to come back here!!
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
My friends and I went to Cowfish after it was ranked one of Yelp's top burger spots in Charlotte! I thought sushi and burgers would be a weird combo, but I was pleasantly surprised! I loved getting to have a little bit of everything with the bento box meal, featuring a mini burger, sweet potato fries, pickled cucumber, edamame and a four piece vegetarian sushi roll combo. As someone who likes options with their meal, this was the perfect choice for me and I would highly recommend! To celebrate a big accomplishment for one of my friends, we then decided to grab a dessert and were SHOCKED at how huge the berry tall cake was!!! I have no clue how one person could eat this cake when four of us could barely finish it, so sweet and tasty! The overall atmosphere of CowFish was very family friendly, with kind staff and a large space. I was happy with my experience here.

Fred

Yelp
The burgers were great and unique. Will definitely order from Cowfish again! Order was ready when promised and fresh. Perfect for a quick meal.

Dewey W.

Yelp
The food was very good. The combination of sushi and burgers on the menu really add character and depth to menu. I never knew there were that many burgers. The service was ok. They were very warm and welcoming. They would refill your drinks and check on how you are doing. But this is how the cookie crumbles. It took almost an hour to get my food. But it was worth it and I would do it every day. The decorations were so well placed and the color scheme match with the vibe of the food. I would definitely go here.

Yelp
So....... I love this place. We make many special trips to here when in Charlotte. And it's always amazing. Came today after a Broadway play and was blown away by the experience. In a negative way..... 1. Took forever to get served initially 2. Ordered a specialty milkshake and it never came 3. Drinks not refilled 4. Took forever to get a check. Literally typing this as I wait for it. Love it too much to stop coming. But was disappointed that no one seemed to care that we were sitting here with our napkins on the plates waiting. Saw a guy that I assume was a manager walk by and actually stepped beside our table to let folks walk by and he would have seen we were sitting and waiting bored. The place isn't that busy. You got amazing food. Take care of your customers. I am a huge tipper. But I don't give it for bad service.

Yelp
We heard great things about cowfish so we took a detour on our homebound leg of our road trip to NC. The restaurant has a fun concept! There was quite a wait but it made it fun by listing your name in a digital fish tank to let you know how close you were to being called. The concept is catchy... burgers and sushi. For our visit we had both. We preferred the burgers! It was fun, flavors were good- if it was close to home we'd go again.

Ellie

Yelp
I LOVE COWFISH. I don't live close to cowfish but i will go the distance for that crab rangoon dip. i love you

Yelp
All around a great experience. We went on a Saturday evening at peak dinner time and the wait only ended up being about 40-45 mins. I added us to the wait list on our way there and I got a notifications for a reservation for an hour and 15 from the time we were heading there. I checked with the front desk when we got there and I'd have to say ... the hostess' were excellent!! They were super friendly and helpful, said it would only be another 30. We walked around and let our son play on the Cowfish out front. Got us in and seated in 20! We were able to choose btw inside and the patio. I'd recommend the patio on a nice day - covered, beautiful fountain outside. Great ambiance. Our server was great too- gave us the run down of the menu and some suggestions. We all ended up going with sushi, which was super fresh and very filling! We got our son a kids meal which came in a bento box with two sides, a stick on tattoo, and a Rice Krispie treat with a gummy fish! Super cute! We had a great time- I'd definitely recommend for the sushi- we'll be back for burgers next time!!

Yelp
We went to cow fish because Bulla next door had a limited menu due to a cooler malfunction. We were quickly seated with menus but no one ever came to wait on us after at least 15 minutes. The place was not busy and we saw at least 4 different employees walk past our table. We left without any service at all.

Amanda V.

Yelp
Wide range of menu options! Great place to go if you like sushi but your friend doesn't!

Yelp
I love the Cowfish so much. I go here every year for my birthday, with a few exceptions, like this year when I went on June 6th instead of June 7th because my mom wouldn't be here on my birthday. The people here at Cowfish understood that, and they are very nice in general, and a few years ago one went to the store to get me a specific drink. They have burgers and sushi here, but they also have burgushi, essentially burger ingredients in the form of sushi, and I love it. I also loved the dessert they gave me for my birthday, as well as the Parmesan fries I got as a side. The best thing about going here on a birthday, though? The celebration. They bring out a gong and other instruments and sing a song before they ring the gong. It is one of my favorite parts of one of my favorite restaurants, and for as long as I go here, it will remain a favorite of mine. This is one of a few locations of Cowfish, among which one is in Universal Studios Orlando, and I would highly recommend going to the one there if you have the time and don't live close to any other ones. I may not have been, but I know it will be amazing, if this one in Charlotte is anything to go off with. If you have the ability to go here, and enjoy sushi, burgers, or both, I can't recommend going here enough.

Yelp
Servers were awesome and the food was delish! Highly recommend the bento box - so much food and a little of everything!

Yelp
The fusion bento box was amazing I subbed out the burger for a sushi half-roll. I love how Cowfish works to help you get exactly what you want. I also always enjoy trying the sushi rolls at Cowfish and my kids love the burgers. Win-Win for us.

cowfish is LEGIT! first off, any place with a bob ross portrait hanging from its walls is an automatic win lol! the atmosphere is definitely alive with a decent line waiting outside and a bustling bar scene. i placed an order to go and it was ready ahead of time and the staff was super friendly/attentive. they even offered me water while i waited. i had the double deuce and when i tell y'all this did not disappoint in the least bit, i am not cappin! the spicy crunchy roll was super flavorful and their spicy tuna was unlike any i've ever had. usually spicy tuna is minced tuna mixed with a spicy sauce but this was a beautiful piece of tuna coated in sauce instead and it's by far my new favorite way to have it. can't wait to come back again and again!

Yelp
I'm not so keen on the burger side of the restaurant, but the decor on the sushi side is much more appealing. And as far as sushi goes, the quality of their seafood is impeccable. Generous cuts that are tender and delicious. Flavor profiles that make my husband and I go back again and again. We've always received great service from the moment we walk in the door to the moment we leave. Absolutely delicious and worth a visit!
