Craftbar Review - Union Square - New York - The Infatuation

"If you have been around long enough to remember the original Craftbar, you’re probably not all that fond of Craftbar in its current form. The restaurant was originally opened in 2002 as a casual counterpoint to the upscale experience of Craft next door, and those who loved it would tell you it was a special little place that served simple, delicious food. A few years later, Colicchio and crew moved Craftbar around the corner to its current location, a much larger and, by all accounts, less magical space. Luckily, we don’t have to deal with the inconvenience of nostalgia in this situation. We never went to the original Craftbar (my meals in 2002 still mostly consisted of frozen pizza and Bud Light), and previous to our visits in advance of writing this review, I think I had been here once over the last decade. As a result, we had no previous restaurant to compare this to, nor did we have any preconceived idea of what Craftbar should be. And that’s probably why we like it so much. If you can manage to forget that this is a Tom Colicchio restaurant, regardless of whether that name means “guy from Top Chef” or “guy who started Gramercy Tavern” to you, you’ll find that Craftbar is simply an excellent, casual restaurant in an area that desperately needs more excellent casual restaurants. The menu ranges from light and vegetable focused to “we make our own sausage,” and we’ve found almost everything we’ve eaten to be interesting and highly delicious. It’s equally appropriate for a business lunch around Union Square as it is a post-work happy hour hang, and your parents will probably like it a lot too - assuming they weren’t regulars at the original Craftbar location. Food Rundown Whipped Ricotta Toast Everybody loves toast. There’s nothing not to love about this one with ricotta and charred fava beans. Montauk Squid Salad One of our favorite dishes here. The squid is perfectly cooked and served cold in its own ink, with pickled chiles and scallion. Order it. Even if you’re not usually crazy about squid. Duck Hearts & Dumplings You knowhow you’ve always dreamed of being a new, younger, Anthony Bourdain? Well, that’s definitely not gonna happen. A new Andrew Zimmern? That might be within reach. Start here with these duck hearts. They actually taste a lot like steak, but, as Bourdain would say, they squeak a little between your teeth. The other stuff in the skillet here helps break up the bites so you’re not just eating organs, which is nice. Give it a shot. House Smoked Kielbasa Ordering a giant sausage at a restaurant is not typically something we do, unless said restaurant is actually a beer garden or a place with “house of sausage” in the name. However, this kielbasa at Craftbar is an absolute must order. The whole thing is made in house, from butcher to grind to smoke, and it’s incredibly delicious. Ricotta Agnolotti Need a break from the duck hearts and sasuage? This agnolotti is a good, lighter option. Other things in the bowl with the pasta will vary depending on season. Knuckleberry Sandwich Blueberry lavender ice cream, short bread cookies. A fancy ice cream sandwich for the fancy child inside you. This thing is so good." - Chris Stang

We came here for dinner and sat outside on the patio. It was so nice! Nice beer selection, and the drafts are cold. The cocktails are great too. We got the southern fried chicken and chicken tuna blt. They were both delicious! The homemade fries were good, but the homemade ketchup wasn't for me. My wife loved it though, so don't knock it till you try it. Our waitress was so nice and helped us with our orders and drinks. Would definitely Come back!

What a fantastic discovery in Destin! We went to The Craft Bar following a Grok recommendation and didn’t regret it one bit. The service was impeccable – the staff super attentive and welcoming, making the experience even more enjoyable. We started with the charcuterie board, which was perfect: fresh cheeses, quality cured meats, and a selection that balances mild and intense flavors. The highlight of the night was the Bistrot Burger, juicy, well-seasoned, and with a crispy bun that complements everything. The atmosphere is relaxed and sophisticated, ideal for a quiet dinner without excessive noise. Fair prices for the premium quality. We’ll definitely be back! I recommend it to anyone looking for artisanal burgers and a craft beer vibe.

Google
BEST Mule I ever had! Love love love the fresh herbs (Pro Tip: breakup the ginger and crush the leaves into the drink for an even better herb-a-licious experience). The food here is super fresh and all made in house! The chicken thighs and mac and cheese is EVERYTHING!!! Def will be back when we are down here for vacation!!! 🥰🥰🥰

Google
We are visiting the area and highly recommend. We weren't too hungry so we shared the Mac n Cheese Bites and the Que Burger. This was THE BEST burger I've ever had. Juicy and cooked perfectly. The fries were delicious as was the spicy ketchup. It did feel like we had to wait a hit for the server to come back so we could get our check, but she was busy, super friendly.

Google
I visited the Craft bar one Saturday evening with a somewhat light crowd. The first thing I notice is how nice the bar is. The second thing is the 30+ types of beer I could choose from. To eat, I got the steak frites with fries and the greens. The food was really good with the steak frites having an awesome flavor and texture. I got a beer flight of some of their sours, my favorite type of beer. This place is somewhere I would visit often while in the area.

Google
The craft bar burger was good, meat well seasoned with the caramelized onions and cheddar. The fries were fine, a tad salty for my liking. They served only from the brunch menu today 11-3. Good experience overall!

Google
The food isn't bad, go for the burgers and the appetizers. They've obviously got a great selection of beer as well. It's not the best place to take a little one, the high chairs are the most disgusting I've seen in the entire city. Nothing seems like it's wiped down ever. Bring your own chairs or leave them in a car seat is my advice.

Google
Last minute lunch plan, me and my husband visited in January. Super friendly staff, great service, and delicious food. We tried the Pimento Burger and triple sliders. My burger was good, Pimento cheese is made in the house, the fries were soooo good. There's nothing like the gast food type of fries you usually get with a burger. The sliders were delicious, too. Craft beer can get a bit loud depending on the time of the day. We recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Great Drinks, great staff - Fallon, Coral, Sean & Hayden... Comfortable pleasant surroundings with a great atmosphere... 8ن HRH. Prince Richard of Judah.

Yelp
We wanted something casual after driving all day and stumbled across this place. It was self seating and were able to get a table easily. Service was good but fairly slow since there was only one waiter serving all the tables inside and outside. They have a BIG selection of draft beers, wine and cocktails. The food was good. The Que Burger had good flavor and they cooked it to the right temp that was asked for. The Sushi Grade Tuna Niçoise salad was good but interesting. It came with potatoes in the salad (which I didn't realize when ordered) they weren't crunchy enough to be put into a salad and I don't think they belonged unless they were fried up more to more crunchy like a crouton. It also had green beans that I wish would have been pickled and would have added more acidity and flavor to the salad. The tuna and rest of the salad was great.

Yelp
Great outdoor seating option. The food was delicious. Will definitely be back. The service and atmosphere was also excellent.

Yelp
Really great find for a nice dinner with kids. Located in a mall area with plenty of parking, the restaurant has both indoor & outdoor seating. We were seated right under the heat lamp in the outdoor area (enclosed for winter) & felt cozy the whole time. Our server was really great & attentive. Made some great suggestions & kept our glasses full. My kids enjoyed the Mac n cheese bites & their Shirley Temple drinks. The truffle fries were also delicious, as were our entrees (meatloaf, black bean quinoa burger & a big salad). The drink menu was fun & had some really delicious sounding holiday drinks (apple butter old fashioned & a toasted marshmallow espresso martini). Definitely somewhere we'd go back to again!

Yelp
We came by Thursday around 6pm and it was packed! It was a nice day out and all of the tables on the patio were pretty much all full. The inside ambiance was pretty dark but around the bar it was lively. Our waitress was lovely and accommodating. Our food came out fairly quickly and was fresh and delicious. It was one of the first times we came for dinner. We usually come for brunch! The tuna BLT was so flavorful and something different for me. My husband had the meatloaf. He said it was delicious and there was plenty of food. We will be back again to try some other items on their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredibly overpriced average burgers. Service has always been mediocre. The vibe isn't anything special. It's a cliche overpriced burger join. Think rustic/industrial ambiance and ground meat sold for price of a good cut of steak.
google avatar

Yelp
Popped in pretty late one night for dinner and our experience was top-notch! We sat outside on the patio as the weather was lovely. Waiter was super sweet, knowledgeable, and was readily available whenever we needed her. For drinks, I ordered the tequila mockingbird (recommended by our waiter) and it was so good! Sweet without being diabetes in a cup while also being strong. We also ordered the Mac and cheese bites, fish and chips, and the lamb burger. Everything was delicious! We were so hungry however that I forgot to take pictures of everything! We'll for sure we back next time we visit Destin FL!

Yelp
Stopped by The Craft Bar while I was in town, and it was a solid choice for something close to my hotel. The food was decent--not mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. The service stood out as a highlight; the staff was friendly and attentive. It's a good spot for a casual meal and drinks if you're in the area.

Yelp
Food was almost inedible... except the pretzels. Whoever was in the kitchen should not be in there. Sorry but not sorry. The blackened chicken was so hot you couldn't eat it. And, I love spice. The Nashville chicken, which we knew would be spicy was so disgustingly hot you couldn't eat it. Kinda felt like a bad prank you'd pull on friends to see what they could eat. Informed the waiter but he said he would "tell the cook" and that was it. Not worth the money. Thankfully they had alcohol since the food was so bad- that's what gets them 1 star.
google avatar

Yelp
Our food was good. Appetizers were really good. Fried green tomatoes w chutney and pickled onions were on point. I think in season they would be awesome. I ordered the Pretzels with the IPA mustard. The mustard was really tasty... but the pretzels were just ok. I think they should have been more along the lines of ballpark pretzels. My family loved the Mac n Cheese and Nashville Tenders. Hush Puppies w dipping sauce was great. Grouper was really nice. Good flavor and the sauce was really good. My boys loved the burgers. Cooked well. Fries were thick cut boardwalk fries. Yummy!! Our Servicer Ashley was really great! Made good craft brew recommendations and she suggested the gulf grouper as well! The atmosphere was just okay. I think the bar is probably more lively than the restaurant as a whole. It just kinda falls off and was a little boring. Suggestion - put the craft beer selections around the restaurant- it's a gastro pub - you should be able to see the brews from wherever you sit. I felt it was lacking the family fun bar feel. Definitely recommend and is worth the stop for you to see for yourself.

Yelp
So we dropped in for a bite to eat. We were sat in the patio. It was a bit cold! The food was as really good. The burger smothered in Pimento cheese. It was the perfect balance of flavors and crunch. The steak frites over the hand cut fries hit the spot. We enjoyed the food and the drink. The service was a bit slow. But we were on vacation we had no place to be.

June S.

Yelp
Gumbo was excellent even tho a bit spicy! Actually very spicy. Lol. Didn't come with bread but I asked the server to pasta bun and he did. Gumbo should always be served with bread for sopping up the gravy! House salad with tuna was also excellent. Old Fashioned cocktail was perfect. Banana Foster was banana bread pudding. Not what we expected but tasted good. Waiter was excellent!!! Wish we had eaten here first instead of the Crab Trap.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice spot for great service and good drinks. Wait staff also bartend so can give great guidance on beverages. They told me which ones were popular, and which ones not so much. Their seasonal habanero drink was excellent, both spicy and citrus forward. Would happily go again if I'm the mood for some drinks.

Yelp
Incredible Salad. Not just Ahi Tuna. Very fresh and well put together. Always incredible food

Yelp
Still One Of My Favorites In Destin.. Monday's from 5-9 is Burger Night.. $9 Burgers are Delicious.. Happy Hour Monday- Friday 2-6!

Yelp
We got there at 7pm and the staff rushed us to order and once we got our orders at 8pm the staff wanted us to hurry and seemed to pressure us to leave. The patio is nice but everyone seemed to be pressured by staff to head out. The food looked great but it wasn't that good and the service was bad. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
We arrived at this location because they are dog friendly. A nice covered patio and a special chicken & green beans for our dog, along with water! How nice! Our food was good and we were very happy with hush puppies, salad, and burger. Our server was wonderful! The ambiance was a typical restaurant but with the plus of covering outside with fans.

Yelp
I can always count on a great burger at The Craft Bar in Destin. What I love about it besides the fact they cook burgers exactly like you order its collocated with Wine World so if you have a specific wine you want (today was Intl Syrah/Shiraz Day) you can purchase it and for a $10 corking fee you can enjoy the wine you want with your burger ! The Bistro Burger is my fav and with a side salad of greens ($2) swap out for the fries (which are great BYW) made a great lunch. Service is prompt and attentive. Ambiance hey it's a craft/sports bar so the cacophony of chatter, sports and music gives TCB a unique atmosphere.

Yelp
yall the kitchen BUSTED DOWNNNNN with this food!!! I didn't even take a picture as soon as I smelt it I went feral and ate absolutely everything within 3 minutes. We got the mac and cheese bites, pretzel with beer cheese, chicken strips and the que burger. MY GODDD!!! It changed my life. I really don't even wanna tell y'all this because next time I go I don't want to wait 2 hours but it's worth it. The best server ever recommended his world famous espresso martini. That thing had me singing marvin gaye for real. I can't even spell marvin gay. Thank you to our server I wish I got his name he was the nicest human. Somebody call Keith Lee
google avatar

Yelp
This place has such a fun vibe. It has friendly people working there that seem to enjoy their work. This place had the best pretzels I've ever had!!! Pair that with a great selection of craft beers and you're good to go! Loved it!

Yelp
Yum yum! If you are looking for a place that has great burgers, appetizers, beers, and cocktails; then you found it here! The Craft Bar has been our favorite spot in Destin! We loved everything we got! The staff is so friendly and funny, they give great recommendations!!! They had outside and inside seating, we opted for outside seeing that the weather was great! We highly recommend: - The Hot Chicken - The Craft Bar Mac & Cheese - The Craft Bar Burger Absolutely LOVE THE FRIES! Their spicy ketchup is great as well, but I couldn't stop eating the fries with their ranch! The ranch is superb for all my ranch lovers out there! My husband give 5 out of 5 hubby stars! Give this place a try for sure!! It was a hit!

Yelp
The photos don't do this justice, this is one the best burgers I've had in a long time. The service was great, our server was a younger guy with flippy long hair. He gave the best recommendations and was just so easy going, great service. The caramelized onions on the burger with the melted cheese and brioche bun? 10/10 My sister had the fried chicken and my aunt had the ahi burger and both loved it. As far as sides, the mac and cheese and fries were good, the brussels sprouts are skippable to be honest Would absolutely recommend !
google avatar

Bobby H.

Yelp
Food is great and service is great! Lunch specials are really good. Our party had Fried Shrimp, Grouper and grilled Mahi. They had some of the best collard greens we have ever had. The food seems homemade and Chef created. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
I hesitate writing this review because this place is such a locals best kept secret. The food is amazing, prices are ridiculously good for Destin and their happy hour prices make them the best deal in town and the food!!!! Everything I've had there is over the top delicious and surprising. I love their fried chicken (get it Nashville style!), burgers, fresh fish tacos and home style entree and sandwiches. I wouldn't change a thing about The Craft Bar! The servers and workers are all fantastic and friendly. Food is consistently some of the best on the coast. Seriously, it's just that great! My folks live in Destin and I go here every time I visit.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
We chose the outside seating for dinner and enjoyed a few of their draft craft beers. We highly recommend the burgers as they are cooked and seasoned well. My daughter had the chicken fingers and enjoyed them as well.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
The most amazing food in the area. Still going STRONG! We visit each year and came back again.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
They refuse to take orders for takeout. Even if at the bar or inside. I love their burgers and fries. Awesome environment. Just don't understand the poor service with this.
google avatar

Brooke C.

Yelp
We enjoyed The Craft Bar so much that we heavily contemplated returning for the second time on our vacation week. Our waitress was very attentive, honest, gave great recommendations, and was wonderful with our brood of kiddos. Of our large group, every single person was very happy with their meal (a rarity). All of the burgers were great! Even the kids sliders! I feel like it's hard to find good food at beach tourist destinations & hard to find truthful reviews, but this place was perfect.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
We had a reservation for a group of 13 for my sister's bachelorette party. Paige was fantastic! Got everything right. I had the Craft Bar Burger ($16) with Brussels Sprouts. The burger was delicious. Wish the brussels sprouts were crispy. I also split the Truffle Fries ($10). They were delicious, and the portion was huge. The Pretzels ($8) with mustard and beer cheese (+$1 for beer cheese - they shouldn't up charge for that) were good too! I got the Resting Beach Face ($11), which was good, but I liked the Pepino del Benicio ($10) way better. Fun environment! Great good! Good cocktails! Amazing service! Will definitely go back!
google avatar

Betse O.

Yelp
Great local place for craft beers and sports on TV. The fried chicken was awesome. So crispy and juicy. I even ate the skin (which I never do). The Mac n Cheese was cheesy delicious. Could've used a bit more seasoning. The wait staff was very friendly. Oh, and there was a wide selection of beers. Will definitely return and highly recommend.
google avatar

Alicia T.

Yelp
The burgers are amazing. I love how friendly everyone was when we were there. And the interior reminds me of a Gastropub.

Yelp
‼FOOD PORN‼ Talk about a showstopper! The food is so good, it'll make your tongue slap your brains out--as my very wise "foodie" Daddy would say. Their burgers are the best--period. The. Best. The service is friendly, engaging and you'll fall in love with the waitstaff--Sara & Meagan are our favorites, but don't tell the others. Do what us locals do--eat outside on their covered patios, stay a while and enjoy their spirited drinks... their smoky old fashioned(s) are so very, very delicious--CHEERS!
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
Somewhat disappointed with this visit. My $38 Grouper was extremely thin and overcooked. They replaced it with the fried shrimp platter which was okay. My wife enjoyed the fried Mahi with fries and we loved the Caramel Bread Pudding and our server was excellent!
google avatar

Kerry K.

Yelp
Stopped for Happy Hour for a quick bite & to try some brews. We ordered the Pretzels with cheese & Hot Chicken. The food was delicious and definitely hit the spot. My husband & I both got a flight of beers to try- he went with IPAs and I went with Sours. They all come from local places to the area. I really enjoyed the ones I had- including the one that was 7$ for 4oz! The server was great & did tell me about that one being pricey- I asked her opinion on the beer and she said it was worth the price, but she didn't want me to be shocked later at the price. I appreciate that so much! It was 100% worth the $$. The other beers I got were 2-2.5$ for 4oz. Overall, a really great experience and we had great service & good food & it was nice to sit outside and just chill.
google avatar

Malissa H.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped here on a Saturday night before going out. Atmosphere was good and no wait to be seated. Our server was Kat and she was fabulous! Good suggestions on the food. We split 3 appetizers - truffle fries, Mac n cheese balls, and fried green tomatoes. Everything was delicious but the fries with the malt vinegar aioli were sooo good! Would definitely eat here again if back in the Destin area.
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
We went for lunch and discovered their lunch specials., I had the pulled port with greens and black eyed pea and corn mixture. It came with cornbread. The meal was delicious. My husband had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and the black eyed peas. His was very good also. $7.99 each. Many interesting things on the lunch menu including sandwiches, burgers. We will definitely go back. I also had a glass of wine at happy hour price.

K P.

Yelp
Great ambience - especially when traveling with your dog! The food was yummy and the drinks were great. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Yelp
This is an inexpensive place in Destin to try high quality food and drinks. I try to watch any sporting event I can here. The staff here works really well together. Ashley, Coral, Mae, and Reese are just a few that have waited on me that do a really good job. Even management will help out with drink running and bussing tables.
google avatar

Lori F.

Yelp
Best hamburger in all of Destin. And Best smoke old-fashioned. It is a little bit loud in there, but you forget all that when you're eating their food it's phenomenal.
google avatar

Valerie A.

Yelp
Delish burgers & beer! Had the pimento burger. Service was good. Causal eating. Check it out if looking for a causal burger & beer.

Jessica C.

Yelp
The beer selection was good, although they were out of the one I wanted. Pumpkin Spice Latte should be available on the first of October! The food was just ok. My son's burger was raw (He ordered it medium). Service was decent although it was a busy weeknight! We sat outside and it was really nice.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Simply amazing place. Atmosphere, food and very cold beer were perfect. The service was impeccable. Our server was Devon, not sure if he spells it that way. Anyhow, he was awesome and his personality, attitude was outstanding. Food was amazing. I had the pimento cheeseburger with huge onion rings. Will definitely return on the next trip.
google avatar

Cheryl N.

Yelp
Fantastic fish tacos and drinks. We stopped in because we were staying close in a condo and starving. Excellent decision. We will be back!
google avatar

Thommy S.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot. The patio seating was a tad bit hot for me, but it wasn't too bad since they had the fans on. We walked in during lunch and got seated right away. It wasn't too packed here. Their meatloaf wasn't bad, either. Their spicy ketchup that came with it was pretty good. My favorite thing here was the mashed potatoes and gravy. It had a really good seasoning to it. Their fries were kind of soggy and wrinkly, but it wasn't bad. I also tried their triple slider plate. It came with their craft bar burger, pulled pork burger, and lamb burger. My favorite one was the pulled pork burger. I thought their pulled pork burger was really good. It was very well seasoned. The pork was very tender. Everything in this burger made the flavor taste really good. The flavors went really well together. I do recommend this one if you want to try their burgers.
google avatar

Yelp
Gyro Burger and black bean Quinoa burger were spot on but the fries were way over cooked came out dark brown and looked like fried grease blah did not eat.
google avatar

Tim A.

Yelp
The craft bar is amazing! Service is top notch and the selection of drinks is broad and tasty.

Yelp
As a local - this is genuinely one of my favorite restaurants on the panhandle. Consistently amazing food, super relaxed atmosphere, and the manager/owner(?) is always there checking on tables. Will recommend this place again and again!!

Katie R.

Yelp
I was surprised this was located in a strip mall, but the burger had great flavor. Our wait was very long but we also went on burger night. It made for a very affordable night out. Ambiance was nice.

Yelp
Visited for vacation. I ordered the steak frites and brussel sprouts. This came with flank steak on top of fries and a mushroom sauce. Everything was good and the service was great.
