Best Fish and Chips Spots Worth Their Salt on the Oregon Coast

"It’s simply not a trip to the South Coast without a stop at Port Orford’s The Crazy Norwegian’s Fish and Chips or so it’s been called by locals for decades, Crazy’s. Here, big summertime lunch and dinner crowds clamor for huge plates of well-fried, crispy battered lingcod served with a choice of pasta salad or slaw (be sure to try the tarragon-flecked tartar sauce). Fortunately, one of the most beautiful views on the entire coast is a quick walk away, so place an order at the takeaway window, or add your name to the list for seating and come back after admiring the sandy cove of Battle Rock Beach. Look for Port Orford-sourced rockfish tacos or all manner of cool specials in the quieter months. Don’t leave without a slice of one fruit pie, heaped with ice cream." - Jennifer Burns Bright

15 Fish and Chips Spots Worth Their Salt on the Oregon Coast

"It’s simply not a trip to the South Coast without a stop at Port Orford’s Crazy’s, or so it’s been called by locals for decades. Sometimes it seems a little crazy indeed, with big summertime lunch and dinner crowds clamoring for huge plates of well fried, crispy battered fish like ling cod or Alaskan cod served with an unusual tarragon-flecked tartar sauce. Fortunately, one of the most beautiful views on the entire coast is a quick walk away, so order at the takeaway window or add your name to the list for seating and come back after admiring the sandy cove of Battle Rock beach. We had lunch here based on the very nice reviews. I have to say they're very delicious! Although there are many fish and chips places along the OR coast, this one is quite good. We were seated but waited a while to get our food. There are A LOT of to-go orders so prepare to wait if you come at peak hours. The waitresses are very friendly and work fast. We tried both fries and tater tots. I prefer the taters more. Overall a great experience. We will try other items on the menu next time we are in the area.

Decent fish and chips. They were serving Alaskan Cod the day we went and it was cooked very well. We also got a cup of chili. That was a good choice, I loved the fact that they had chunks of tomatoes baked into the chili. They have plenty of options for people who don't like fish, chicken strips, tacos, and chili.

Their fish (lingcod) was perfect, had mine grilled & husband had his breaded/fried. Also had my prawns grilled - delicious! Always appreciate a place that can grill my food even when it’s not listed that way on the menu. Small # of inside seating & there was a line before they opened. Outdoor seating available. We’d easily go again

A great find! The fish & chips were good but the pasta salad stole the show. The best pasta salad I’ve had and a must try. The chowder was great and the mixed berry pie was delicious.

Fantastic flavor here!! I ordered fish&chips, and the flavor was perfect. The foods are so fresh, and I love lemon cake here.

We stopped here on a road trip as it was the first place we could find and it was SO GOOD. The BLTs were amazing and so was the chowder. Service was super friendly and helpful and we were even surprised with a second key lime pie :’) So so sweet 100% recommend

We got an order to go.Our fish was very soggy and not crisp at all. There were multiple bones in the fish that we kept having to pick out. There was no seasoning in the batter. The fries were soggy from the fish sitting on top. My husband did not feel well after eating this. We were disappointed as we were looking for some tasty fish and chips while visiting the area.

Yelp
This cute little place served up some great food and also allowed us to watch Formula1 with their wifi. We were camping at Humbug Mtn State Park and were craving some seafood and before driving down here we did a little research and Yelpers were spot on with this recommendation. We each ordered a bowl of their Clam Chowduh and we shared the Super combo (or at least I think that is what it is called) which came with 3 pieces of Cod, 3 Shrimp and 3 oysters. Every thing was cooked to perfection and the chips were also cooked well. Thankfully they weren't busy while we were eating and enjoying F1. We would gladly go back there and eat. The staff was very pleasant and the food was cooked exceptionally well and the prices were quite fair. We shared the razzle pie which is part raspberry and part blackberry (I think) and it was really good.

Yelp
I have wanted to try this place for years. Finally had a chance this weekend. There was no seating available inside so we went out to the patio. Not my first choice since the flies and gnats were abundant. We ordered a fish combo, a burger, and chicken strips. The star of the day were the fries and ranch. The seasoning and flavor of both were amazing! Unfortunately, they packed our order to go and by the time we received our order, the fish and chicken steamed up in the boxes. My fish had a soggy coating as did my daughter's chicken. The burger was charbroiled. My husband said it needed seasoning but after adding some salt and pepper was delicious. Three stars for the average experience but hoping for another try. From all the great reviews, thinking it was an off day. I do love that the patio is dog friendly. If your fur baby is with you, each table has a water bowl nearby!

Yelp
bay shrimp melt, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Fresh baked sourdough bread, sour and flavorful, grilled to a crisp perfection, tiny crunchy buttery exterior. The tiny bay shrimp so juicy, fresh, and flavorful. There (appeared to be) teeny tiny bits of pepperoncini (or banana pepper??) The way this sandwich has so much going on and yet the flavors all blend so seamlessly it all just tastes like one ingredient. The perfect amount of cheese. The side of delicious and interesting pasta salad. The cup of clam chowder that was so so delicious with a little S and P and Tabasco. We stopped here by chance on a road trip on our way to the redwoods, with a chill in our bones from a beautifully, painfully windy beach. We were greeted with the kindest smiling face and welcoming wave of the employee. Service was quick (even though all of the food is made to order), super cute interior and exterior, the cutest S and P shakers (nautical vintage glass with metal snap tops). Two of us ordered the bay shrimp melt, one had an equally delicious FRESH-ground-hamburger-meat cheeseburger, and it became a running bit the entire camping trip, we kept making references to the bay shrimp melt. Go here! Order the bay shrimp melt. I'm already wondering when I will be able to bite into one again.

Yelp
We ordered at the window and sat outside at a picnic table with our dog. Service was friendly and efficient. The fish and chips was awesome! The batter is a thin and crispy and the fish was flaky, moist, and delicate in flavor. The tartar sauce was full of dill and relish and had a nice brininess. The fries were very solid and the perfect vehicle for their amazing chipotle and blue cheese sauces! Everything had a generous sprinkling of coarse salt which was magnificent. It was also a huge portion for only $18. Afterward, my husband and I were so stuffed and realized we should have split one in order to save room for their pies. But if you come hungrier than us, you'll be just fine to do your own and still get pie. lol Highly recommend.

Yelp
Delicious fish and prawns and chips! Conveniently located on the side of the highway to grab lunch. There was a line but they worked as fast as they could with the staff on hand. Friendly folks, will def come back.

Yelp
A little building on the side of the road that serves delicious fish/prawns and chips basket here! They had a line when we got here but they explained they were short staffed. Understandable! The line went fairly fast and food was ready in timely manner. The food was more than worth any wait. It was fried nice and crispy. Fries were deliciously beer battered.

Yelp
We had to stop, just because of the name! It's a small restaurant and the tables are a bit tight. Service was good. We were late in the evening so missed out on desserts. The Hubbs is in search of the best chowder in the PNW, and though he enjoyed it, it was not the best. I liked that you can order fish and chips with 2, 4, or 6 pieces. The pieces are small so 4 pieces were right for me. I had the pasta salad option which I really liked. They offer adult beverages, and they were out of mugs so I drank mine from the can. They do a lot of take-out orders. There is a nice patio if you don't mind the breeze. It was a nice stop.

Yelp
This place isn't bad. The clam chowder was really good. I would say don't order more than one thing unless you're really hungry. I thought I would have room for clam chowder and fish and chips, and I really didn't. The ambiance is fun if you're in the mood for a touristy type place.
google avatar

Yelp
We've been here a few times now for lunch and they never let us down, the waitstaff is pleasant and make their rounds frequently. The clam chowder is magnificent, the prawns were so big my grandson asked if it was a lobster..lol But the fish OMGoodness so moist and flaky with the perfect crispy crust on the outside. One of the best I've has in Oregon sorry Bow Pickers they topped you ;) The marionberry pie though! Drool worthy warm and fresh out the oven perfect end to our meal. We will be back every chance we get.

Yelp
The food was great, I had the cod and shrimp and it was cooked well. My waitress was helpful and nice. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant is clean. I will visit here again.
google avatar

Sofia G.

Yelp
I ordered the house made sourdough clam chowder bowl and it was DELICIOUS! The sourdough bread was soft and flavorful and the clam chowder was packed with clams and outstanding! I'm from San Francisco so my bar for sourdough bread is high and this place really knocked it out of the park! If you're in Port Orford, eat here!! P.S: try a choc chip cookies
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food amazing service. The fish was fresh and everything was so delicious. The staff is great and the place was clean.

Yelp
Always enjoy coming to this place. Sometimes it's way too busy so we skip it since we are locals. Like the newer ordering window and additional seating. Fish and chips are some of the best on the coast. Used to order the "Cuban sandwich" but didn't see it on the menu today?
google avatar

Annette M.

Yelp
We come here whenever we are passing through Port Orford and love the food and atmosphere. Today the service was very poor -- no checking on how we were doing or refills on ice tea or water -- both empty before food arrived. Waitresses were very frowny and did not look at customers. I ordered a tuna melt and my husband prawns. Our food came out after four tables behind us received their food. My tuna melt was on a hamburger bun -- not grilled sourdough. Not a tuna melt and certainly not what was described on the board. I suspect that they ran out of bread but I should have been given the option to change my order. Waitress response was defensive -- "that's how we make them. ". Very disappointing.

Yelp
I enjoy going to Crazy Norwegians when I'm in town but I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here. Everything is fried in a very thick batter and it didn't taste super fresh today. My partner had the fish and chips which he said were fine but had a super thick batter. I had the fish tacos which I've had before but this time the fish portions were smaller and had very little flavor. I added some malt vinegar and lemon but it still was missing something. It is also fairly expensive ($8/taco). I do love the marionberry pie but the slices also seem smaller than they were the other times I've had it. Still yummy though! I also agree with other reviewers that the waitresses are not very kind but there was a man working that was very nice and accommodating!

Leslie D.

Yelp
Excellent food. Excellent service. A little shaky about answering their phone for take out orders.
google avatar

Krynn P.

Yelp
First of all there is no handicapped parking and we had to park across the street which is difficult for my husband to walk that far and we get in the door and we're "informed" by the girl that we can either wait in our vehicle or outside in the 70 mph wind! She asked if that worked for us and I said no..to which she said no need for me to be snippy AS IF! I asked for the approximate wait time for a table and there was a guesstimate of an answer. So we waited outside and were going to leave when our buzzer sounded and we went back inside. My husband ordered a BLT and I ordered the crazy combo with 2 tiny pieces of fish, 3 prawns, pasta salad and way too many French fries. The fish and prawns were really tasty and cooked well and we appreciated the hand cut fries. The total for the order was way overpriced and the service was basic. We won't be back to this place.

Anthony M.

Yelp
The place has gone downhill since my last trip. One of my cod portions was the size of my finger. The lemons served were dry and had almost no juice. The fry sauce? was way to pickley The redemption was the raspberry rhubarb pie ala mode

Yelp
Very good fish and chips joint! The flavors were spot on and the food was delicious and Fast friendly service!!

Yelp
Great fish, but the homemade tartar, not so much. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yelp
This restaurant is conveniently located right off of highway 101. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, the latter which you can order food from a takeout window instead of being waited on. One of the nice parts about this is place is their focus on fried seafood and chips, and the flexibility around what you can order (e.g. you can get just fish and chips if you want, or a mix of different seafood types). We ordered a crazy combo split for two people and they gave us separate plates and split the fried fish / shrimp / clams between us. We also got marionberry pie... it turns out marionberry is an Oregon-specific type of blackberry, and nearly always only grown in Oregon. They gave us two scoops of ice cream for our pie!
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered from the outside window, and waited in our car. The food was brought out to us, and we drove a short distance to the view point to eat. We shared a cup of chowder, and the fish and chips. The chowder was quite good, but a bit peppery for me. The fish and chips were very good! The cod was fresh, and lightly breaded, and not greasy. The tartar sauce had a lot of dill, a touch of sweetness, which we liked very much. Plenty of fries, for two, also. We will be back!

Yelp
Super convenient seafood diner on 101, right in town. We stopped in Saturday afternoon, and while they were fairly busy, the wait wasn't too long. We ordered the Oyster lunch, the fish tacos, and a cup of clam chowder. Everything was delicious! The oysters were fried to perfection, and the flavor of the tacos was great. Very generous portions. We were a bit disappointed with the fries, however - a bit soggy and limp, coming out of the fryer a bit early, it seemed. The parking here is decent, but all the spots were taken, so we walked over from across the highway. Plenty of seating inside and out. The staff is really friendly here. We took our lunch to go & enjoyed it from a log on the beach within walking distance.

Yelp
As I am roadtripping, I came across this restaurant. I walked in and I was happy to support a small business owner. I was seated and I asked the waitress to provide me with some suggestion. The guy (Dan) on the other table suggested the grilled fish and chips and I had that but I added two more pieces of the regular fried fish. I can honestly say, that it was really good, flavorful and moist. There was plenty of fries and the coleslaw was on point. One of the best fish and chips I ever had. The grilled fish was good and it had a small kick. I could have eaten an entire fish like that. The fried fish was also good and did not have a thick layer of battered. If you are even in the area, I suggest you stop by and give them a try. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Fish tasted like it was caught and cooked right in front of me! Soooooo good! Fish excellent, fries great, slaw good. If you've never been...go!!!
google avatar

Yelp
YUM!! I find myself hesitant to eat out these days because everything is so f*cking expensive and more often than not I am let down and feel ripped off. I'm traveling right now so, gotta eat at some restaurants. I got the fish tacos today and they totally slapped!! The slightly crisp tortilla, the cheese, the sweetness in the slaw sauce- holy smokes they were good! Yea, they were spendy but that's life these days. They were tasty and tbh I'm considering going back tomorrow on my way out of town..

Dana H.

Yelp
Had the best fish tacos ever! It's hard to get in because they are so busy but it's worth the wait. They seated us with another patron and it was fun to talk.
google avatar

Natalie W.

Yelp
Shrimp melt and clam chowder is fantastic and, sourdough is fresh! Quick and friendly service

Patty T.

Yelp
We had the clam chowder and the crazy combo that consisted of fried cod, shrimp, clam strips, fries and Cole slaw. The food and service were really good. They just need a bigger place as it was a little cramped in there. Overall very good though.
google avatar

Don P.

Yelp
Stopped by for some fish and chips, short wait inside for a table and they were really busy. Made no difference, waitress was prompt taking our order, and the food was served very promptly. Imagine my surprise when she brought it on two separate plates because we had mentioned that we were going to split the order. That's impressive and we appreciate it. The fish was really good. Nice, fish slabs, and the fries are great. All in all it was an impressive visit and we will be back . Thank you!
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch and we're very happy we did! The fish and chips were fantastic, the homemade tartar was some of the best we've had. We will for sure be going back!

Linda H.

Yelp
The soda they served was flat. We had to ask special for Tartar sauce. (We ordered fish and chips.). Duh! The clam chowder was great!

Robert M.

Yelp
Taking a costal drive north form Brookings,we saw this roadside establishment and stopped for lunch. Order at the window and they bring food outside to patio tables. They were busy and the order took a while but was worth it. We had some of the best fish and shrimp tacos ever. We are visiting tourists but if I lived here, man I would eat here all the time!

Garret B.

Yelp
Food is always good, service is fine and I like the vibes. The pie is awesome but my go to is the fish and chips.

Yelp
Why can I not find good fish AND chips???? On a road trip down the Oregon coast stopped here for lunch. I ordered the 4 piece fish and chips my wife had the BLT. As BLT's go it was good. She ordered the pasta salad as a side they gave her fries. Don't let the "4 piece" fool you. The fish was good. Had a good crunch to it fish and coating had good flavor. They are just very small pieces. The fries were pretty dissapointing. Not crispy at all. Felt like they had been sitting in the box for a while. But the kicker to everything was how absolutly mind blowingly slow they were. I got in line about 1:30 there were about 5 or 6 people ahead of me. I did not get my food until 2:30....a 1 hour wait. I dont care how busy you are 1 hour for fish and chips is ridiculous. Even if they were the best Fish and chip I had ever had it took wst too much time. So if you are in a hurry keep on driving by. If you have time to kill for mediocre fish and chips still keep on driving by.
google avatar

De-Jay H.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended. Line out the door, so show up early. Very fast for taking orders and a cool ambiance inside while you wait. Food was hit and delicious, the whole theme is amazing. Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Bathroom 2/5 Cleanliness 3/5 Location 4/5

Yelp
Made it a priority to stop and eat here on our Oregon tour. Still just as good as it was 30 years ago!
google avatar

Janet E.

Yelp
Excellent fish tacos. We had both grilled and Baja style. I don't know which on was my favorite. Will definitely be back on my next road trip from SoCal

Dane C.

Yelp
Worst service I have experienced. Waited 45 minutes for even a drink order, nothing. People walk in after we have been waiting 45 minutes, were seated, drink order delivered and food order taken. We got up to leave and they acted surprised.
google avatar

Brent S.

Yelp
Smaller place. Get there by 6 pm or you might miss out! A don't miss. I'd go back for sure
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
Service was friendly and quick. Food was DELICIOUS !!! Beer comes with a frosty mug. Had the fish & chips and chowder. Wish we had room for pie

Sammy S.

Yelp
Have eaten here twice now and it's been delicious both visits. Our party had the oyster basket, oysters po'boy, fish and oyster basket and the clam chowder soup. Everything was delicious including the razzleberry pie a la mode we had for dessert. They had my favorite Henry Weinhards root beer and the best fresh cranberry juice I've ever sampled. Service was friendly and efficient - ambiance cozy and welcoming. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
A true jewel! The staff was really nice, the facility is small but the outside seating helps with that. The fish was THE best, the freshest, most delicious I have ever had. The batter was light so the fish is what shined! Thank you so much for the experience! I highly recommend to anyone who likes fish and chips.
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
Great place to eat homemade pies and soups are the best. Guest service is amazing also . Lines out the door cuse it's good food
google avatar

Summer T.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! The service is great! Everyone is so personable and genuinely wonderful people! Their fish & chips are to die for! So tasty and fresh! The place is small but the decor is welcoming and home-like! If you're passing through or staying in town...COME HERE FOR THE BEST FOOD
google avatar

MB W.

Yelp
So good! Excellent Fish and Chips. We never leave Port Orford without a meal here. And their Razzleberry pie (WITH Vanilla Ice cream a la mode) is unbelievable!
google avatar

Vanessa B.

Yelp
The food was bland and disappointing. I also ordered "fresh oysters" which is what it says on the menu and they brought out deep fried oysters. No where did it say deep fried. One would assume they were fresh on the shell. Also, $5 for a ridiculously small piece of pie. Absolutely will not be going back
google avatar

Charles M.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. Patio was lovely, although a little noisy as it is right on the road..

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Was extremely excited to try this place out after reading the reviews, but was sadly disappointed. The service was only a 25 minute wait for our takeout order which was to be expected with how popular it was. Food was ready when we arrived to pick it up, but the fish and chips were not crispy at all, breading was kind of soggy. The fish itself was cooked well, but the fries were slightly soggy as well. We also ordered clam chowder (which was good) and the salad with added bay shrimp. The salad came with croutons that were extremely stale. I had to pick them out and we actually fed them to our dogs. Unfortunately we will not be returning and we had originally planned to eat here twice based off of the reviews we had read.
