13 Hotels With Incredible Pools Around the World - AFAR

"Located near the Australia Zoo and opened in 2022, the lodge honors Steve Irwin’s conservation legacy with public spaces built from upcycled timber and native plantings that provide habitat for possums, bats and kookaburras. The 82-foot infinity pool known as the Billabong overlooks paddocks inhabited by rescued emus and kangaroos, and the pool floor features a playful glass mosaic of two crocodiles based on photographs by Robert Irwin." - Kathryn Romeyn, Nicholas DeRenzo

Steve Irwin's Family Just Opened a Luxury Lodge at the Australia Zoo to Honor His Legacy — Take a Look Inside

"Opened on June 22 in Beerwah, Queensland — about 60 miles north of Brisbane — this new lodge was created so guests can stay overnight and appreciate local wildlife. Located just south of the Irwin family's Australia Zoo near the Glass House Mountains, the property offers eight family-friendly cabins plus a two-room accessible cabin set in habitat where I can spot koalas, red kangaroos, and emus; there is also a new home for the zoo's southern koalas (victims of the 2020 bushfires) living alongside echidnas. The build is full of Irwin family touches and sentimental details: the front doors and check-in desk are recycled timber from Steve's original Crocodile Environmental Park (the place where Steve and Terri first met in 1991), Bindi and Robert contributed theming (Bindi named the restaurant Warrior and Robert's photos of Australia Zoo crocodiles were printed onto the pool tiles), and First Nation artwork features throughout. Guests receive a welcome gift and free breakfast, unlimited entry to Australia Zoo plus shuttle service and access to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, exclusive use of an 82-foot infinity pool called The Billabong, and on-site amenities including a gift shop, laundry, and 24-hour concierge, all designed to celebrate Steve Irwin's love of wildlife, fun and family." - Rachel Chang Rachel Chang Rachel Chang is a travel and pop culture journalist who contributes to Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet, and more. Everything exceeding our expectation! We knew it was going to be lush but WOW! We loved our cute little gift bag when checking in, Our kangaroo Cabin was soo perfect and loved the personalised touch to Steve and Terri’s stories 🫶🏻 I then had a lovely bubble bath whilst reading the books and their life, We then headed to the pool and had a lovely time whilst ordering a hot chocolate - Service was great and even so we had a zoo keeper talk at 5.30pm! To tell us about Eddie the Emu and the kangaroos and which one was the zoo keepers fave! Dinner - Took us by surprise, we had starter, main and desert and they honestly was the nicest tastiest meals we have ever had in our life! All the flavours worked soo well together, Not to mention the most perfect drinks and effort the bar mad consistently. I love that it’s not over crowded there, it’s gorgeous in the wild and even had 2 kangaroos jump passed our cabin in the morning. The staff were soo lovely and helpful at reception and everywhere you went and everyone truly looks like they love their job 😍 Thanks a lot guys!!! We can’t wait to hopefully be back some time, Kelsey & Jayden xx

We travel on a really strict budget so that we can occasionally splurge for the ultimate experience, and this did NOT disappoint. We arrived at 8am the day of check in, knowing we could store our bags and use our complimentary zoo access the day of check in. Kim and Lara, at reception, were an absolute delight and took incredible care of us. What amazing ambassadors for the brand! Check in is scheduled for 2pm, but we received a text at noon to let us know our cabin was ready. We were having such a great time at the zoo, that we didn't check in until after 2pm, and the process was smooth. Our cabin, a two-bedroom (black cockatoo) was beautifully appointed and pristine. Our welcome gift was a lovely touch. We enjoyed the cozy robes (to borrow) and the cute slippers (to take) and the soaps and lotions smelled amazing. There was gourmet coffee and tea, as well as boxed water included. Outside our cabin, we saw wild kangaroos, and at the stunning 25m infinity pool (located next to the Warrior Restaurant, which was also fabulous), there are zoo animals, including kangaroos, seven koalas, and Eddie the emu. The shuttle to the zoo is easy and the drivers were friendly and helpful. Don't forget to take advantage of the included "sneak peak" at the animal hospital, because it is not to be missed!

It's expensive but worth it! You get 'free' zoo access while you stay with an excellent shuttle bus service. We had a red kangaroo lodge with one bedroom which was very lovely indeed. Rear veranda had loungers and was very private. The kitchen was well equipped. Towels were provided for the pool at the main building which was great. You can watch animals from the infinity pool. Architecture and the grounds were lovely and well thought out. Staff were mostly brilliant and very helpful. There was a lovely bag of goodies to take home in the lodge as well.

Amazing, amazing lodge! We started an awesome adventure at the Crocodile Hunter Lodge! Nicole at the front desk greeted us after a very long flight. She was warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. She took us to the Emu Cabin which was beautifully appointed and very relaxing. Waking to birdsong and enjoying coffee and tea on the porch was so relaxing and refreshing to our spirits! Our only suggestion is to provide a food basket option to take back to the cabin. Without a car it would be nice to have some food options in the full kitchen. We loved swimming in the infinity pool watching the kangaroos, koalas and Eddie the emu! Our meals at the Warrior restaurant were so delicious and beautifully presented! Kudos to Maddie for her fun, joyful spirit! Many thanks to the Irwins and the entire team for making our trip so memorable!

This place is amazing. The attention to detail in the cabins is incredible. The beautiful photographs by Robert and books by Terri about Steve and their journey were heartwarming and absolutely lovely. The cabin is more like a luxurious home, with all the mod cons. The pool overlooks a manicured lawn with relaxing kangaroos, emu and koalas. Hats off to the chefs at the restaurant, our dinner and breakfast was spectacular. The two days at the zoo are memories that will last forever. The entire place is a sanctuary for its residents and an educational experience for us visitors.

Our stay at the Crocodile Hunter's Lodge was unforgettable. The cabin greeted us with the fresh scent of the Australian bush, cool A/C on a hot day, and even brownies in the fridge such a warm touch! The cabin had all the comforts of home, and we woke up to a mother kangaroo and her joey right outside our window. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, and everywhere you look, you’re surrounded by the Irwin legacy, photos, stories, and animals. A truly special experience!

A truly TOP quality experience. Everything about The Crocodile Hunter Lodge oozes effortless quality. Pre check in the reception team were in contact with me to ensure they were ready for my visit and they pre booked a table in the restaurant and other services for me. On arrival everything about the premises was cool contemporary and effortless. The location is superb and the fact there is wild life everywhere is a real bonus. The reception team were super friendly and Kim went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for our visit and also gave great local advice about travel and services after we left the lodge. The infinity pool and patio area at the back of the lodge is awesome with Emu, Kangaroos and Koalas to keep you company whilst you swim or sip drinks. The restaurant and breakfast room have very friendly staff and offer a wide range of high quality delicious foods with a good wine list. The guest rooms were very modern with natural elements added in key places. There was great lighting and AC if required. They were really well appointed with lots of nice touches like Irwin artwork, tasty treats on arrival, Irwin books and literature, excellent range of teas and coffees in the room, a good range of bath products including a snazzy Dyson hairdryer for my wife. There is plenty of parking at your room or in the main lodge car park. TOP TIP - If you're staying here you are probably going to visit Australia Zoo. Your visit to the lodge allows you access to the Zoo on the day you check in and also the day you check out. You can easily park your car for free at the lodges main reception before you formally check in and take the free shuttle bus that goes the short distance between the lodge and the zoo all day. This maximises your time at the zoo and your time at the lodge allowing you the best of both experiences.

Stunning. Well equipped cabins with lots of roo visitors each day. I was travelling with my two boys (9 & 4) and was worried they might wreck the place and there may be some pretentious vibes. Absolutely not the case - staff were all wonderful, helpful and welcoming. The price tag may seem steep, but with free admission to Australia Zoo for every day you’re there (including check in and check out days), restaurant credit, really nice touches (like a piece of art from Robert Irwin) and then the proximity to Australia Zoo this place is a no brainer. We spent mornings at the zoo and then the heat of the day by the pool in the afternoon.
