Chula Elotes Street Corn Food Cart Opens in Portland, Maine | Eater Boston

"A coastal dining spot opened over the summer with a long cocktail list (including champagne and sparkling wines) and a food menu spanning confit chicken sandwiches, seared scallops, bone-in ribeye, and spicy sesame gochujang duck wings." - Dana Hatic

We were browsing the menu when a lady approached us and said she came to the Crooked Pine the night before, and was tempted to go back again as it was phenomenal. We were already tempted, but we happily accepted her recommendation haha. Well what can I say, the food was fantastic, we actually DID go two days in a row!! We got the chicken wings which were crunchy yet juicy at the same time, perfect. I had the baked cod first night, so fresh and such a great portion size. The second night I had salmon, amazing! My partner ate the risotto and then the halibut pasta, she said it was the nicest risotto she has ever had. The service was brilliant both evenings, and the rose wine really was delicious. I’ve been thinking about it ever since we left. What an amazing restaurant, we will be back to Ogunquit and the Crooked Pine!

We had a great dinner experience at The Crooked Pine, but we expected it to be better based on other reviews. We went on a Saturday evening in July—peak tourist season—and thank God we had a reservation because both Ogunquit and the restaurant were packed to the max. Also, they do not have parking, so I recommend you give yourself 10-15 minutes to find parking, especially during the summer. Let's start with the good stuff: the service was excellent. The staff, both the hosts and wait staff, were excellent; friendly and prompt throughout the night. The restaurant itself is beautiful. They have a patio area (prime stuff for people watching, which we unfortunately did not get), indoor space, and a separate bar area. The indoor space felt like a cozy home (although they do pack quite a few tables in the space!). The drinks were also delicious. They had an extensive cocktail menu and plenty of spirits. The 14 Sheets cocktail was terrific, and the Paddington was also excellent. Both drinks were strong and well-balanced. The food ended up being more of a meh experience for us. We started with the Mac & Cheese ($14, from their appetizers list), and it was okay, but we definitely have had better. It could've used more cheese and spices to elevate the flavors. My husband ordered a burger, and I ordered the halibut piccata, and both were subpar. The burger's consistency didn't match the medium-rare temp we asked for, and my husband's theory is that it was a previously frozen patty. He opted for a side of tortellini salad (they offer a few fun sides for burgers), and honestly, that was the best part of the meal. My halibut piccata was disappointing for multiple reasons. First, the food-to-price ratio: they gave me so little pasta that I had to slow down to not finish everything in 5 minutes. Then, the halibut was incredibly dry. All in all, it was not worth the $30+. I recently had chicken piccata at another restaurant; sadly, this was laughable compared to my other experience. All in all, it was an okay experience. Maybe it was just a hectic night that led to a subpar experience.

We had a wonderful meal! Unfortunately, they didn’t have the special tonight, the whole Branzino. But everything was really good. In particular, we loved the lobster rolls. Big portions of lobsters in a perfectly toasted bun. Highly recommend getting the wings too! Lastly, I must mention the service, it was stellar! We will definitely be coming back on our annual Ogunquit trip.

Google
Stopped for lunch and had the Grilled Salmon Sandwich. The salmon was thick and well cooked with a delightful dressing. For a side, I chose the Herb-Dijon Potato Salad which (for my taste) had a small amount of vinegar (which I dislike in general) - others will be find with it. Service was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was typical Ogunquit - the place is converted from a residential house.

Google
We went here for a late-ish dinner so we were happy they were open. We ordered 2 drinks, a spritz which was refreshing and an espresso Martini, both were good. We ordered the wings which came out with too much char for our liking. We ordered the shrimp risotto and lobster pappardelle pasta which were good. Nothing special but not a bad place, I wouldn’t recommend the wings though.

Google
GF delicious warm cornbread and carrot soup to start. Everyone working was kind and welcoming. Place was adorable. Loved the artwork. Best mussels I’ve ever had in my life. My husband also enjoyed his chicken. We both enjoyed the cherry bounce cocktail as well.

Google
We had the worst meal and experience here last night 10/24/25 the reviews looked so good. The atmosphere was nice. The hostess was especially nice. Our waiter was not very talkative. We ordered our wine, which was fine. And then we ordered our food. First thing I noticed was there was no bread or crackers or something like most restaurants. I ordered the red snapper, and my wife ordered the short ribs which were chewy and I thought they left the other half in the kitchen. It was an extremely small portion, like the Red snapper. The red snapper was extremely thin and very small, which was thirty four dollars. And my wife's dish was thirty one dollars for that kind of money We thought the portions would be somewhat bigger. We were really hungry from shopping all day.And we wanted to get a good meal. The red snapper had good flavor but I believe I ate that in about four bites. My wife didn't even finish her meal. She said it was very chewy. Two glasses of wine and two meals is a hundred and eleven dollars. We went there hungry, and we left hungry. If you're looking for a bigger meal, don't go here.Don't waste your time and I wish the waiter was more talkative. He kind of acted like lurch from the adams family.Just no reaction and just very little conversation. This was our thirty seventh wedding anniversary and we left there, disappointed. We were hoping this restaurant was going to be one of the places we frequently go when we go to maine two or three times a year. I've heard of small portions and i've gone to restaurants with small plates which are fine. But these portions were very, very small. And not that good.

Google
Great food and drinks. I recommend the cornbread app, the halibut picatta , and pistachio creme brulee. That halibut picatta was out of this world. Even my wife said 'why do you always get the better dish' would definitely come back.

Yelp
In a town with endless options, it's hard to find a place that feels authentic and stands up to the rest. For us, Crooked Pine has become an absolute favorite in Ogunquit! We came for dinner on our anniversary in September, and had an amazing time. Their service is top-notch, and they have a very creative menu. There are not many vegetarian options in Ogunquit (let's be real.... it's all seafood), so I was super pumped to see that Crooked Pine had a few! The food was outstanding, and the dessert stole the show (make sure to get some!). You'll definitely want to make a reservation - I saw many people being turned away at the door or having to wait quite a while to sit down. I am already looking forward to coming back on our next trip! Thanks for an amazing anniversary dinner!

Yelp
Delicious! The restaurant was decorated very well. We could hear our friends since it wasnt too loud. We ordered the mussels, beet salad, and wings to start. I will think about the mussel dish for months after this. It had this creamy mushroom sauce and my only regret was not asking for more bread or ordering another one to enjoy. The beet salad was also delicious. It had this spicy and creamy sauce. Wings were smokey and flavorful. My husband had the halibut with this Delicious lemon and caper sauce. I ordered the stuff cod and that was also tasty, just needed a lemon to cut some of the richness. Overall we had an amazing experience and highly recommend the mussels!

Yelp
2nd time here Staff VERY accommodating! Perfect Manhattan and Cherry Bounce Crooked Burger is perfection. not shown is the Chickpea and Mushroom soup which hits more like a chowder. PACKED with immense flavor and for these winter days, connects the soul to the body!! We came here late in the season and everything was top notch. Just as it was in-season. Your choices will be perfected here. Staff agreeable and kind. Gentle quiet space for one but also perfect for a foursome. We'll make it a consistent stop whatever time of year we visit!

Yelp
good food and great service Wait staff really tried hard enjoyed the meal Would go back Had different dishes and enjoyed them all

Yelp
Fantastic meal for the second year in a row of coming here! Perfectly cooked steak for a reasonable price, great service and always cozy

Yelp
Great find in the busiest part of town. We tried 2 apps (mushrooms and shrimp cocktail) and both were great. Entrees included chicken Milanese and halibut piccata. Both were fresh, flavorful and just perfect. Cozy atmosphere, good service, reasonable prices and great quality - what more can you ask for. Don't miss this place.

Yelp
Tasty drinks and food! The Duck Wing app was excellent and actually went really well with the roasted carrot app! Service was attentive and not "checking in" so really good. The bar is a good place to hang with some of the locals and also get a really good meal. The tables along the "porch" are a great people watching spot to enjoy your meal as well. The location is great right on Shore Rd near the beach and all the good spots to enjoy a night out in downtown Ogunquit.

Yelp
The coziest place to have dinner! We sat upstairs at the bar with Caitlin as our bartender and server. The music was Christmas jazz and Caitlin made us the BEST drinks and offered up some incredible recs for food. We started with the Brie Toast, which is an absolute must - bacon onion jam, Brie fondue, and toasted walnuts on the best baguette. We also had the roasted oysters, at Caitlin's suggestion, and they were perfection! For my entree I had the Sausage Gemelli and my husband had the Gnocchi di Carne - both felt like a warm hug during this cold season. The sauces were so good that we got bread on the side to soak them up! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This cozy and nicely decorated restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. The servers are incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure our dining experience was top-notch. All of our food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Gnocchi & Pork. We were very happy with our meal and the overall service. Highly recommend this restaurant for a pleasant dining experience :)

Yelp
This is the best restaurant. It has a cozy atmosphere wonderful servers and an excellent menu. We have the carrots with hot honey and ricotta. Their cornbread is gluten-free, it comes in a cast-iron skillet and is heavenly. My mother had the lobster roll on brioche They have a dedicated gluten-free fryer for the french fries, amazing!!! A wonderful glass of French burgundy with the halibut with gluten-free pasta.

Yelp
This was our second visit to The Crooked Pine. First time was indoor dining which we swore we'd never do again because the dining room is in desperate need of a makeover... dare I say an extremely unattractive room. So, this time on a chilly night we opted for outdoor dining. The atmosphere was great, and the fire pit did its job in keeping us warm. That's where it ends. To be clear the food like the first time was quite good but service was an issue. First of all, when our cocktails arrived the server sloppily placed them down spilling alcohol on the table rendering the table and outside of the glasses wet. A bourbon & vodka mess. We wiped the table dry with one of our menus. A cocktail napkin which never happened could have helped. Then while we were still enjoying our appetizers a different server brought us our entrees. That should never happen. Suddenly there are too many plates on the table, so we quickly finished up the first course to make room for the second. And our second course which were both pasta dishes were barely even warm. Not at all hot which made them very unappealing to eat. Almost as if they were fired up too soon and were sitting around or quite possibly, they were made in advance. Either way unacceptable which was unfortunate because they were actually quite good. Service is everything and this experience was lacking in that department along with lukewarm food.

Yelp
Wow! Amazing service, ambiance, food and drinks. Love the vibe and also- corn chowder, Hulu Wings, Beet salad and much more!!! The drinks were great our service was amazing. Please don't miss if you're in Ogunquit!

Yelp
Very disappointed in food quality, portion and preparation. We had the halibut and swordfish. The halibut was overcooked and dry and had to be sent back. Replacement was 1/2 size of original order. Spaghetti was overcooked as well, not al dente, portion also small. Swordfish portion was thin and small and not worth the price. Overall disappointed what we paid for both meals.

Yelp
It's been a while since I had dinner at crooked pine, but with our visit last night, it's back to my number one spot for amazing restaurants in Ogunquit. Duke was our server and he was excellent and attentive. Our dinner was perfect, we had the fiddleheads and miso mushrooms for apps and the swordfish and gnocchi for dinner. We had a beautiful and private table overlooking main st. And felt welcome and cozy. Drink list was thoughtful as were the wines. We finished with the pistachio creme brulee which has a perfect sugar crust. We can't wait to return!!

Yelp
The Crooked Pine resides in a remodeled Ogunquit landmark. The atmosphere is as charming and as intimate as its cuisine. The carefully curated menu boasts European inspiration with New England charm. The bartender chilled the sleek glassware with ice and my martini was shaken fast. It was served ice cold with some ice remnants in the drink. While dining here, I learned that this spot shares the same owner as Brix + Brine. The bar was cozy with 8 seats. The olives were firm, salty, and jumbo. The fare was fresh and delicious. The lemon-tarragon mayo that dressed my lobster roll was balanced and delicious.

Yelp
Never again. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. It was a small caesar salad, it was missing the Parmesan cheese, and the salmon was tiny, a child's portion and all that for 38 dollars. Instead, go to the Front Yard restaurant, great experience. Or Angelinas, both have great food and plenty of it.

JS K.

Yelp
This was a last minute pick as &we were driving from NW Mass up the Maine coast & didn't want to deal with downtown Portland. So happy we stopped here on a whim. Still busy for October, reservation recommended, but such a pleasant surprise. The mushroom soup & Caesar salad to start were the best we've had. Excellent. I had a superb stuffed shrimp. Spouse had the chicken milenese. We both loved our entrees. We are in Maine often and are definitely adding this to the list. Thanks for having us. Such a warm, inviting place!

Yelp
Ate dinner here on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the ambience and our server was very friendly and helpful. However, I felt the portions were extremely small and the price is very high for what we received. Four dollar up charge to substitute roasted potatoes for pasta. We both left here hungry so I don't think we would come back again.

Yelp
It was fairly busy when we arrived and although we didn't have a reservation we were able to be seated right away upstairs. The service was good and the location is easy to get to and cute. The view from upstairs is nice and fun to people watch. I found the food to be pretty average. I had a burger and my husband had the grilled salmon. Both were fine but nothing memorable or worth going back for.

Carol L.

Yelp
Wonderful night! Started with the hostess, Phoebe (?) who accommodated us when the initial table was not acceptable. We ended up at a primo table on the porch with windows overlooking the street (great people watching!) Started with the mussels appetizer. Delish! Portion was huge, sauce was delicious and the mussels were sweet and petite. Zach was our waiter. Very attentive and knowledgeable. We had the chicken Milanese and shellfish risotto for entrees. Both were fabulous. We finished with a scrumptious chocolate torte. Melt in your mouth. Overall, a terrific experience. Looking forward to a return visit.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED this place during our stay in Ogunquit and came here a couple nights for dinner! The ambiance was wonderful, especially upstairs, and the music was great. They provide blankets to guests if you get cold. Loved the cocktails, try the 14 Sheets. I tried a variety of the appetizers including the mussels (my favorite!), miso mushrooms, the carrots in ricotta, and corn chowder! The cornbread ran out both nights, which I was looking forward to trying. For the main course, the chicken milanese was delicious! Really looking forward to coming back here again during my next trip. I would recommend reservations, especially on a weekend, but was grateful they were able to squeeze us in as walk ins!
google avatar

Liz W.

Yelp
Very sweet restaurant in an old house in the Main Street of town. Excellent menu choices....I had the stuffed cod which was good. Service good, and lots of wine and cocktail choices.
google avatar

Diana R.

Yelp
Hopping on a Saturday , but I snagged a high-top in the bar. Enjoyed a kale Caesar with whole anchovies, then halibut piccata, which was absolutely amazing. Perfectly cooked and served over spaghetti with an unctuous caper sauce that perfectly complemented the fish. Drank Picpoul de Pinet, not often found on a wine list by the glass, but a perfect accompaniment to the halibut. Servers were friendly and efficient. I'll return next time I'm in Ogunquit. There's a patio with a fire pit that would be great for a group.

Yelp
Ok dinner experience. We went on a Friday night in October. There were people everywhere and our server said it was busier than a summer night. Fortunately we had a reservation and were seated right away. Our table was on the porch which was ok. But we were next to the door and it slammed shut every time someone went in or out. There was a curtain to block us but people waiting to get in would bump into us. I think the table is an ok option for a walk in but not when you have a reservation. I ordered the beet salad and French onion soup for my meal. Salad was good. Soup was ok but way too pricey for what it was. My bf had the pork tenderloin. It looked great and he said it was tasty. But the portion was very small. The description said it came with brussel sprouts, but it was literally one sprout cut in half. A salad or appetizer would be needed but it took a while to get our drinks and food so he did not want to order anything else. Unfortunately he left dinner still hungry. I wanted to like it more but we will probably not go back.

Kenny A.

Yelp
Dynamite! Our best meal in town by far. The hot hunny cornbread was a great starter. The lobster pappardelle was excellent. The stuffed shrimp was some of the best we've ever had. Dont sleep on this place!!
google avatar

Juney K.

Yelp
We ordered the Brie Toast, Miso Mushrooms, and Watermelon Tataki. All were absolutely delicious! Everything is seasoned perfectly, with the most unique combos that go amazing together. We are so happy we found this place. Staff is great and very friendly with a warm and cozy atmosphere.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
Check hours on their website. Hours are not correct on yelp. I believe they are open every day for dinner in the summer. I enjoyed my meal and it was my first time here. My only criticism is the halibut piccata needed more sauce. The pasta was a bit dry even though it had a good flavor. I would definitely come back and try other dishes.
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Great bar and service, the wagyu burger was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Worth a visit.

Yelp
The host was incredibly friendly. Service was fast and attentive. Beautiful setting also

Yelp
Super cool vibe, YUMAZING food, great service. So good that I went back 3 times. 1 with an insanely picky New Yorker friend who is impossible to please and the only friend I have who sends food back - to my cringe worthy horror! BUT, he was THRILLED! So THAT is essentially the best review a restaurant can hope for - pleasing a picky A$$ New Yorker!! Ha!! DEFINITELY GOING BACK!!
google avatar

JC A.

Yelp
The crooked Pine remains a top spot for us. We tried a new salad- Kale Caesar- which was a delight. Also, they have a novel preparation for their fish- a Piccata version of Halibut. Delicious, and served piping hot. Service was, however, slow. We'll still be back.

B R.

Yelp
To clarify - it wasn't that we couldn't get a reservation- we didn't try. We were walk-in's. This was a great experience
google avatar

Charles B.

Yelp
Everything was outstanding, from the ambience to the food and the attentive and professional service. This restaurant is truly exceptional.

Kimberley S.

Yelp
This place was delicious! Great portions and well priced for the area. I had the burger with potato salad. The burger was juicy and flavorful while the potato salad was not too saucy and the Dijon and dill seasonings really stood out. We sat at the bar and the bartender, Tommy, was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Yelp
If you're looking for a phenomenal dinner spot in Ogunquit, you have to check out The Crooked Pine. The menu is on the smaller side. However, the quality is unmatched. They incorporate local and in-season ingredients in their dishes. It's what I would consider farm-to-table. They have a solid selection of appetizers. You'll see dishes like Blue Fin Tuna Poke, Crab Cakes, Cola-Brined Chicken Wings, Prosciutto with Burrata, Chilled Shrimp Cocktail, Roasted Carrots and Parsnips, and French Fries with gravy. If you're looking for something on the lighter side, they do offer a small selection of soup and salad. You'll find Leek+Parsnip Soup, Seafood Chowder, Caesar Salad, Garden Salad, and a unique Grapefruit + Avocado Salad. If you're looking for a solid handheld/sandwich, they have a small selection. You'll find Maine lobster rolls, short rib grilled cheese, Fried Cod Rachel, Italian Sloppy Joe, and Croque Monsieur. Handhelds are served with coleslaw, sea salt chips, dressed greens, or broccoli salad. If you're in the mood for a burger, they do have three unique options. Classic, Mushroom and Swiss, and Crooked. The burgers are 8-ounces and are served with your choice of side. The entree section of the menu is phenomenal. They offer dishes like short rib bourguignons, cod+chips, creamy mushroom rigatoni, gnocchi di carne, seafood-stuffed shrimp, seafood-stuffed cod, and buttermilk fried chicken. We decided to enjoy the cool fall night and ate on the patio. Our server was incredibly attentive and always on top of things. I ordered the Cola-Brined Chicken Wings. They're tossed with sesame gochujang, scallion, and cilantro. The wings were perfectly cooked and juicy. The sauce the wings were tossed in is incredibly flavorful. It does have a bit of heat to it, so I wouldn't suggest it for those adverse to spicy food. My guest ordered the Crab Cakes. They were cooked perfectly, not overcooked and not overly greasy like most places. The crab cakes are made with lump crab, dressed greens, and a beet remoulade. If you're a fan of fine wine and craft beer, they have one of the largest drink menus I have ever encountered. The drink menu online is over 120 pages long! I would highly suggest the Crooked Pine to anyone visiting the Ogunquit, Maine area. The food was top-notch and I loved the incorporation of local and artisan ingredients. Service was phenomenal as well. I look forward to returning very soon!

Yelp
Really fun place. Went in on a spur of the moment decision on a Sunday afternoon. Had to wait about 10 min, without a reservation. Food and drink were amazing! We were seated in the upstairs bar area next to the window overlooking the street! Best table in the place! People watching, a drink and a fantastic meal, what more could you ask for!

Yelp
Fab patio seating in the heart of town, excellent food and libations. Great menu as there was something for everyone and we all were very pleased. Will return.

Yelp
Excellent dinner last night! Glad to have a cozy indoor table on a chilly night. The staff were all warm and friendly as well, and the food was fantastic.

Yelp
Ate 2x over a holiday weekend. First night the restaurant was packed & we ate outside by a lovely fire pit. Despite how busy it was, waitstaff was efficient, food was amazing, & we weren't rushed at all. Two nights later town was quieter & we again had an amazing dinner & great service, this time inside & left room for the delicious chocolate stout cake / hazelnut / caramel mousse dessert.

Yelp
Excellent service, accommodating... excellent food.. Chicken Milanese also the fish and chips were so fresh

Peter T.

Yelp
It was ok, tight spaces inside, wait staff was great. Food seems like they are trying to hard. I had mussels, came in a white cream sauce, prosciutto and green apples. The apples did nothing for the dish, didn't hinder or help. Had the stuffed shrimp, fingerling potatoes and broccolini. Broccolini was under cooked, no seasoning, two small fingerling potatoes ( boiled) and shrimp was not stuffed, it was stuffing on a plate and shrimp on top. Shrimp was rubbery, stuffing was good. Wife raved about wings she had and lobster roll.

Diana F.

Yelp
Ambiance is amazing- I have a food allergy and was given false information regarding what I can eat (luckily I caught it and informed the manager) so I was okay! But, most other members of our 6 person party's order was wrong, and food took awhile. Ambiance is beautiful, super cute spot- don't recommend to people with allergies, as sometimes it's unsettling having a rough experience.

Mia P.

Yelp
overall great experience! steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy. service was excellent. my boyfriend had a burger and really enjoyed the menu is a bit small, wish there were some more options. it's also very small inside. a little pricey.

Yelp
Excellent food service and atmosphere, highly recommended and plenty of gluten free options for my wife!

Yelp
A bit of Morocco in Maine! Lamb tangine with duck wing appetizer. Flavor packed and accompanied by a great Negroni. Perfect service with a view on the porch. Miss the old Gypsy Sweethearts but this replacement is staying open year round closing just for the month of January. Usual Maine fare also on the menu but so nice to try something reminiscent of our travels. Need to return to try more offerings.

Yelp
This was our first dinner for the weekend and it definitely set the standards high! We had the cornbread skillet which came with hot honey and to our surprise it was hot as in a little spicy and not just the temperature! Super delicious. We also got the ricotta appetizer that came with crostini's. It was such a nice creamy texture. My friend got the crooked burger and LOVED it. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Other friend had the halibut and it was well put together. Flavors blended well, had a good miso black garlic butter on top with a crab rice to go with it. Beautifully put together and tasted fantastic. I had the lobster roll which had a surprising different taste to it than the normal utter or Mayo , I couldn't figure out what it was but it was very refreshing! Would definitely order all 3 dishes again! They have a very nice outdoor patio.
google avatar

Yelp
The food, drinks, everything here was just so good. I also love how the dining area is inside an old house... charming! Wish we had more places with this kind of cozy feeling where I live. I'm planning on returning maybe in the fall - and I recommend this place for a date night, time with family, friends... anything! As long as you're with people who appreciate tasty food and a lovely ambiance.

Yelp
Traveled to Ogunquit for Mother's Day weekend and decided to make reservations at the crooked pine based off of reviews. We were traveling with two young children, if visiting be aware that there is no children's menu. Our boys were adventurous eaters but I know so many kids are not. We ordered two appetizers, the ricotta and the Brie toast. The kids loved the Brie toast so much.... we almost didn't get a bite! The ricotta was out of this world as was the Brie. The boys split the beer battered fish and chips and finished every bite. I had the salmon over the wedge salad and it was DELICIOUS. The staff was so great and the ambiance was wonderful. I would definitely dine here again on our next visit.
