Yelp
My wife and I found ourselves in Clermont one Saturday morning and boy were we glad the Crooked Spoon was in the same plaza we were in. Quick, friendly service, excellent food and a hip and trendy location.
My wife and I were in Clermont buying a mower from a dude at the Publix parking lot. We met up just before lunch and we were hungry. We checked Yelp and a local place with great reviews popped up and it was right in the same parking lot.
We walked into the Crooked Spoon and were sat immediately. The place was decently busy for the early lunch hour. Seemed to be a mix of people eating lunch or getting brunch. We saw some mimosas that looked good.
Crooked Spoon was started as a food truck and grew into the brick and mortar that it is now. A gastropub to the definition, offering up unique craft brews and restaurant quality food.
My wife and I both stuck with waters since we had a long drive back to Tampa but we were looking forward to the food. The menu on a daily basis is mostly burgers and sandwiches. There were a couple entrees, salads and appetizers to choose from as well. If you follow their Facebook page, you'll see they often do special menus for holidays and have limited offerings that can change daily. Signs that the kitchen is multi-faceted and they actually cook in there.
Our server was friendly and prompt. He kept things moving, kept our waters full and made sure all the food turned out good.
I ordered the cocoa and coffee burger. This burger was a decent size and was pretty good. I asked for it to be cooked medium but there wasn't one bit of pink left in this burger. I think it was just cooked the same as my wife's, which she ordered medium well. My burger had a little stick in it that said medium but that didn't happen. With the name, I expected this burger to have a unique flavor profile but it didn't. The burger was good but no hints of cocoa or coffee came through. The main taste here was the Boursin cheese, which was garlic and herb. This thick, soft cheese is strong and flavorful so it makes sense that it overpowered the palate. The was also a raspberry chipotle bbq sauce on here but it was lost in the Boursin. Otherwise, the burger was good. It was a decent size, had fresh spring mix and tomato on it and in the end, I was full and satisfied. Just wish the flavors has been more balanced.
On the side, I got their house kettle chips. I upgraded them to have the bleu cheese topping on them. This was good. The sharp, salty cheese is known for its smell but good flavor and it topped chips well.
My wife ordered the Crooked Spoon burger. This was the same size as mine, hers was cooked medium-well and was covered with Swiss cheese, an onion marmalade and chipotle ailoi. My wife enjoyed it. She upgraded to the sweet potato fries and these were some of the best I've had at a restaurant. They seemed to be on the sweeter side and had a hint of cinnamon or sugar or something that made them stand out.
I'm not sure what all there is to eat and do in Clermont but the Crooked Spoon seems to be a great local spot to get good food and beer. I'd suggest you try this place out!
