The Best Restaurants and Bars Along Lake Superior’s North Shore in Minnesota | Eater Twin Cities

"The Crooked Spoon might be best known for its burgers, served classic with bacon and cheddar or loaded with melted blue cheese and barbecue sauce. But it’s an equally great bet for breezy summer dishes like cobb salad, fresh herring sandwiches, and chicken salad lettuce wraps. Keep an eye on Facebook for specials." - Joy Summers

As seen on food network, this restaurant has such unique dishes that are each something of their own. I appreciate that this place is not only just a meal but displays the true meaning of the culinary arts. The blue cheese balsamic glazed kettle chips are a MUST try appetizer. (pictured) I have been here quite a few times, I never leave disappointed.

Google
I was here for a business dinner and our server was excellent, very knowledgeable about the "made from scratch" menu and a bright and friendly attitude!! Everyone enjoyed the appetizers with the pretzel bread with beer cheese fondue being voted the best !! The Texas dry rubbed wings and fried calamari were not far behind !! The pork chops stole the show in both taste and presentation! The team commented on how delicious the sandwiches they had choosen were.

Google
Food was awesome! Wait time to get seated was about 10 minutes, on a Saturday at 11:30 am. Not busy and tons of tabes available. Server Nicole was pretty good. Atmosphere was like any other restaurant.

Excellent place! The burgers are simply amazing—some of the best I’ve ever had. The cheesecake is outstanding, truly a highlight of the menu. And the service? Katie took care of us with such kindness and dedication—it really made a difference. Thank you for such a great experience. We’ll definitely be back!

I've been to The Crooked Spoon in Clermont twice now, and both times have been absolutely delicious! The service is quick and friendly, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. What really stands out are the unique menu creations—dishes you rarely find anywhere else. Each visit has left me positively surprised. Highly recommended!

Google
Everything was outstanding. 10/10. Service was excellent, the food was flavorful and even though is a scratch kitchen and it was fairly busy it didn’t take long. Nice place to seat down not to mention the variety of dishes available. We will return for sure.

Google
The crooked spoon was delicious! The chips with the balsamic glaze and blue cheese. The Jackson burger. Ah, amazing. And the service is always great. Looking forward to brunch this weekend.

Google
I can't say enough about this place. The food is amazing and the dishes served are not your ordinary run of the mill dishes. I had the lobster grilled cheese and it's not the first time I've had it. I love the food here!

Yelp
Very friendly staff. We sat outside. Our server was wonderful. The food was fresh, and free refills. She also gave us to go beverage cups. Lovely place.

Yelp
The hamburger buns are bad. They fall apart and make the burger inedible. You can't get a different bun. Some of the specials are really good. They give you two vegetables which we love. We seem to always get the same server and she is awful, doesn't greet us, leaves drink at bar with ice melting for a long time, takes forever to get our check and then she never comes back. We usually grab the manager or another waitress to help us. It's sad. We want to like it. But if they fired the bad waitress we may go back.

Yelp
We visited with friends on a Saturday evening. Plenty of tables and service was quick and our server was attentive. We all had a variety of burgers and one had the meatloaf. The food was good and served hot. The beer cheese with pretzels was delicious. We enjoyed our food and the ambience. It's definitely a place to enjoy some good food with friends. They accommodate for GF which is great as one in our party is GF.

Yelp
The allure for Crooked Spoon has lost some of its luster. Vince has always had higher prices than most but the food made it worth it. However, during my last 2 recent visits it's just not the same. The burgers are smaller and the prices definitely higher. Same for drinks. The value is quickly disappearing in places like this. Bummer for a place we used to call "our Cheers"

Yelp
Been a while since we returned. The K.G.B. wings are "killer" Indeed and are worth the visit. We ordered a medium 420 burger and it was medium rare and bloody. Unfortunately it ruined the meal for me. The fries were good though.
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
Wife and I ordered similar dishes. Food runner placed the wrong plates in front of us without saying what they were. After eating half the meal realized we had the wrong food. Oops. Would have been nice if staff would have announced what the plates were when placed on the table since both were served on marble rye. Mentioned something to the server and got a shrug. Still like this place overall.

Yelp
I was looking for a convenient location to meet my grandma for a late lunch while in town for a work trip and she suggested Crooked Spoon. Luckily, the Yep reviews also agreed with grandma's recommendation We ordered the popular blue cheese potato chip appetizer (a far cry from being healthy but very delicious) and I ordered the Turkey cranberry sandwich with a side of broccolini. Note that they charged an additional $5 for the veggie side in place of the French fries which felt a bit steep given the meal price. The food was all great and the service was equally good. My only complaint would be communicating the $$ increase in side swaps since it was put forth as if it was an equal trade/option.

Yelp
I met my sister at this hoppin restaurant near the crossroads of two main roadways and tried their famous 420 burger (sans pineapple chutney and cheese and with toast instead of brioche). The patty was compact and the flavor was good. They were accompanied by sweet potato fries - one of my go-to sides - which were delicious and they even had some honey for dipping. Yum! I even got to enjoy a yucca wedge and was surprised how it reminded me of a potato. In addition to the standard menu, there are seasonal selections - though I hear those are to be enjoyed by those dining in. The patio was spacious and relaxed (though we heard several sirens passing through the busy area) and we benefited from having bug spray on hand.

Yelp
We Yelped this place and saw good ratings, so we popped in for lunch. Glad we did. Our burgers were fantastic. Our server was attentive after helping us decide on our lunch. My only gripe is the cold interior temperature. I'm not sure why it so cold. I noticed some Mcgiver set up in the ceiling to catch water, and some bubbled paint. A maintenance issue? We will be sure to return next time we are in town.

Yelp
The night had fallen on us and we were tired but still needed to feed ourselves. We still had over 2 hours drive to get home. My husband wanted to stop at a freeway stop but I refuse to put that kind of food into my body. So we searched for a place nearby that would be open and fairly quick. It was 8:30 pm! We were lucky to come upon The Crooked Spoon on our path! This would be our second time here. I knew I was in for a good dinner as the first time here we were not disappointed! Even though we walked in half hour before closing we were still greeted with a smile by the young hostess and our server was very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful meal, seating out in the nice patio. Love the lighting here. Great ambiance! My husband ordered a flat bread and I had the shrimp and grits. All delicious! No hesitation going back here! Highly recommended!

Yelp
The Crooked Spoon has a nice atmosphere. The restaurant is very clean The servers know the food and beverage items. Service is fabulous. The food is cooked in house. No prepackaged or pre-cooked food here. Our lunches were ok. Nothing great, but nothing terrible either. It's worth another try because we had a nice experience and I want it to be 5 stars.

Yelp
Finally! I've had these fine folks bookmarked forever but they're 70 miles from my casa which is way too far for a quick lunch. I was in the area for other reasons and I'm a Gastropub aficionado so giddy with anticipation off I went! Arriving- They are in the Citrus Village Center. If you are familiar with the area, it's a maze of roads. Let your GPS do the work to avoid frustration. You'll find a nicely sized parking lot. You'll note the outside seating, but the view is the parking lot and I'm not a fan of that. Ambience- When most folks think of Gastropubs, they think lots of wood and probably a bit on the dark side. You'll get that here although near the entrance there is seating that is a little bit brighter. Classic Rock in the background at just the right volume. The bar is very nice. The fixtures and tables, chairs etc. are a little worn but it's likely by design as you get that nice comfy pub feel! There are a few TVs here so technically you could watch a game, but I wouldn't think of this as a sports bar. Keep thinking Gastropub with great beer and awesome food and you've come to the right place! Customer Service- I don't usually mention servers by name but Katie C. was 10 stars. She was just spectacular. When they finally figure out how to clone humans, put Katie C. on the list! Then we could enjoy Katie A., Katie B........... :-) Beer- A substantial list that's nicely arranged and with decent descriptions. I had 2 Jai Alai drafts which is a high ABV IPA @ $8 each. They were served in a perfectly chilled glass and professionally poured. Warning, two of these will definitely put a smile on your face! Food- My lunch was determined before I visited as I noticed they offered a house made pastrami sandwich on their website! From the menu, House cured & smoked pastrami, whole grain Dijon mustard, dill coleslaw, house pickles, Swiss, grilled marble rye @ $19. I added fries for $1.50. It was out quickly and perfection on a plate! Tender and bursting with flavor. All the ingredients worked together beautifully. The fries were nice and crispy. It was a wonderful lunch! Conclusion- Pair a spectacular server with excellent beer and an awesome sandwich in a comfortable environment and you get five stars from me!

Yelp
Very unique, scratch kitchen style gastropub - fresh and flavorful options w/ rotating menu of new options each week & even daily. If you like wings, this place has top tier baked & fried wings with absolutely amazing flavor combinations & sauce pairing. We had the So-Co which was Garlic Parmesan and had it served up with the Alabama White Sauce (so good). I went with the house Pastrami and boy oh boy did that deliver on taste & presentation so well. This place is a must try if you're in the area and def worth a trip out to Clermont if you're near.

Yelp
Great food and waitress was terrific. Had the lobster grilled cheese lots of lobster Sister had the turkey sandwich which was excellent, brother in law had the steak sandwich with a Ireland long island iced tea. He said it was strong but excellent. We always enjoy the food here.

Yelp
We actually come here a lot. First off they have the best bartenders in Lake County. Hands-down. They definitely know how to make a drink. And they are very super nice. That's why you will always see the bar full of regulars. Shirley, Joy and Katie will definitely make you feel like home. All the servers we have had have been awesome as well. As for the food, this is definitely a restaurant that loves their specials and so do we. Actually, we prefer their specials over their menu. Not that their menu is not good. It is, but it's the same menu they've had for years. I'm always happy when I get anything on their specials menu. It changes every week. There's a reason they've been in business for so long in Clermont and why they have won best burger in South Lake County.

Yelp
My wife and I came for our wedding anniversary and loved it. Great service and a cool spot with vintage bar/pub vibes. All the food tasted gourmet and we loved everything we ordered, especially the Mac and cheese. I also love that they offer new items regularly. Will be back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
This food stop wasn't on our list for the day but honesty I was super surprised. I don't often get this far out of downtown Orlando but it was worth the stop. My Greek tacos were basically small little gyro pitas and the flavor was phenomenal. Would totally go back.

Yelp
This restaurant has been a go-to for myself and my husband ever since we moved to Minneola. We are a few minutes away, and we love this place. The restaurant team is exceptionally nice and always have a recommendation for you. They are attentive and will keep your drinks fresh but give you space to eat and chill out. The restaurant itself has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a huge bar. There is a wide variety of beers on tap plus drink specials which rotate frequently. For the food, we've never had a bad meal there; it is exceptionally good food! Sandwiches are delicious (particularly the grouper Ruben), burgers are top notch (420 or Jacksons are our favs) and wings are awesome (standard or specials). You can't make a bad choice whether going with a special or choosing from their standard menu!

Yelp
Seven of us went and to 3 (me) of us it was our first time. Very interesting menu and all items made from scratch fresh ingredients. Our waitress for the evening was awesome. They have a regular menu, menu of the month and chalk board specials too. We had appetizers of their homemade chips covered with blue cheese ( not my favorite but many at the table raved about it) The other was hummus salad plater with pita. Loved that app. Main meals were chicken wings ( delicious but not enough to eat for price), grouper Reuben ( a winner), pastrami Reuben ( outstanding and delicious but skimpy meat portion), fried green tomatoe sandwich ( delicious veg option), meatloaf monthly special ( broccoli rabe too raw) and delicious dinner salads. Sides were really good homemade chips, macaroni and cheese ( a winner) and sweet potato fries ( a definite must order)!! Desserts were carrot cake ( which sadly they ran out of so order your dessert first)! The food was fresh , well made with top quality ingredients and very delicious but pricey. Ambience was very nice low light and clean. I'm told their burgers are wonderful so will have to try one on our next visit.

Yelp
A few years ago, when we first moved to Clermont, we tried the Crooked Spoon. The food was uninspiring, and the servers were inexperienced...but! We decided to give them another try this year, and both times we've visited have both been wonderful experiences. The first was mainly due to our server Megan, who was so engaging and encouraged us to try all the appetizers. The second visit, our server Tracy made sure everything was to our liking and brought us little extras without even being asked. Both ladies were excellent at their jobs, making great recommendations and bringing us food that was piping hot and delicious. And who ever was working the bar last night knows how to mix the perfect dirty martini. The Hubs enjoyed his burger, and although the Mahi-Mahi on my blue cheese salad was a bit dry, the loaded blue cheese chips appetizer was quite tasty. So kudos to the kitchen staff as well. The seating hostess was also very pleasant, and I think I saw her wiping down tables as well, with a smile on her face. It's good to see the restaurant operating like a cohesive team now, and I'm so glad we didn't give up on the place after our experiences just after the height of Covid. If you were disappointed with YOUR visits back then, I suggest giving them another try. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
This spot has me wanting to come back for more! The food and hospitality you received here is exceptional. Great and unique flavors but has a nice home feel. The PB&J wings are something I think about constantly. They were so good we ordered wings to go for the following day. I surprisingly do not like blue cheese at all however I fell in love with the blue cheese chips. Such great quality food . I am from NY and come down to Florida to see family and this has become a staple and tradition to go here and have an amazing meal.

Yelp
Great place! Love their house pastrami and service and atmosphere always great for families, date nights and even business lunches
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is amazing!! The Grouper Ruben is out of this world. The servers never let your drink go empty & is extremely attentive and very nice. Plenty of TV's for sports and a great place for friends to gather.

Yelp
This place is always great, the sour cream chips are definitely a must when coming here, the service is amazing and the ambience is nice !

Yelp
Love it here. The food is amazing. The bacon wrapped meatloaf is about my favorite meal at any restaurant I go to. Delish! Friendly staff, nice bar area.
google avatar

Mariana B.

Yelp
It is a nice place for some lunch, a lot of sandwiches and wraps. The environment is nice. Staff are very friendly. The mac and cheese (with 5 cheeses) was delicious. Very tasty and with a lot of flavor. The burger came with the right temperature and very good. Chocolate dome dessert was ok.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely amazing you wouldn't think it is much. But it has several businesses in the building. Different types of food and drinks

Yelp
It has been over 2 years since I've returned to the crooked spoon and WOW, the food was actually better than I remembered! Last time I came I ordered the 420 burger and enjoyed it. This time I also tried the Mediterranean wrap- I have never had such a delicious wrap like I did today. I also upgraded the kettle chips for sweet potato fries (SO GOOD) with aoli dip! I highly recommend that dip because it went really well with the sweet potato fries. Service wise, everyone was very kind and our server was attentive and quick. The food did take a little bit to come out considering how the restaurant only had like one other family in it, so that was a bit slower service than I remembered but the food made it worth it! I will be be coming back for sure!!

Kathlynn W.

Yelp
There were several empty tables and a hostess on her phone when we walked in. It took us a very long time to finally get seated at a table that was in no way large enough for our group. In fact we were placed all facing a wall and not eachother. Then unfortunately the food did not redeem this experience. 2/3 burgers that were ordered for are table were so extremely burnt. We were afraid to reorder tho as it took 40 minutes- hour to get our original orders. All in all. We won't be returning.

Shannon A.

Yelp
The Crooked Spoon is one of our favorite restaurants. We love their menu and when they offer special menu items. This is our Cheers place. The staff is super friendly and we love the pastrami sandwich! We get it on a wrap and add some jalapeños! Yum! The ambiance is perfect and the outside seating would normally be out go to but we love chatting with the bartenders.

Dave L.

Yelp
First time for me and wife but with family, lobster grilled cheese was very good, I had the 420 burger and it was delicious, love the pineapple and sauce. House chips very good. Wife had the American burger and it was cooked perfectly. Sweet potato fries were awesome. The pickles on the burger had a great flavor. Service was attentive and we sat outside on a nice day! Liked the decor could use a little refresher but nice.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Great local eatery! Awesome happy hour, friendly and attentive bartenders...Inventive menu that always changes, and a "Cheers" vibe!
google avatar

Marilyn S.

Yelp
This place is dark. Have been there a couple of times and it doesn't matter day or evening. This Mediterranean Chicken Wrap however is very bright and light. Each time I ordered they accommodated my no tomatoes request. The fries are the seasoned version. The wings were tasty. Menu was tantalizing and it was difficult to decide.

Teresa Bhoj

Yelp
We have been going to Crooked Spoon since they opened. We have never had a bad experiences. The food is always great, service is great, atmosphere is great. You can't go wrong. The best dessert we have ever had. We usually order the dessert to go before we place our order.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Very nice dining establishment for food and drink. They have a covered outdoor area with good service. They have a nice craft beer selection and I was very happy with my lettuce salad. I asked the waiter to add salmon and cook it as gently as possible. They did a great job.
google avatar

Joy F.

Yelp
The food here is superior. This has been a great find. Service has been great, the place is clean, with a modern feel. They have a large covered all weather patio, as well. Definitely a place to try!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Honestly, I feel silly for not having tried this place sooner. I came in for lunch today with plenty of time on my hands. No Kids, no rush. They had a good beer selection. I enjoyed a fantastic burger (Jackson's Burger) with eclectic ingredients/ toppings, & sauces. And although I probably didn't need to, I decided to try an order of wings as well. I had the Texas wings which had a great dry rub, and a honey drizzle of some sort. I also had a nice pour of bourbon while I was here too! I enjoyed everything I had. Including the friendly service. I will be back often. Cheers!
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
The food was amazing!! Large portions (which we both finished and were very full) prices a little high to me but forgot while I was eating because it was so good! The service was spectacular!! The only other downfall was the tables are so sticky!! It wasn't just our table when I stopped in another day to meet up with friends their table was sticky too.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
This place is delicious. I feel like I'm a food snob. Every single thing I ate was so thoughtfully created and prepared. I loved the wings and my salad was awesome. Partner had a wrap and sweet potatoes fries. Sweet potatoes fries could have been a little crunchier but everything else was perfect. They rotate the menu semiweekly I think. Try the wings!!!

Yelp
My wife and I found ourselves in Clermont one Saturday morning and boy were we glad the Crooked Spoon was in the same plaza we were in. Quick, friendly service, excellent food and a hip and trendy location. My wife and I were in Clermont buying a mower from a dude at the Publix parking lot. We met up just before lunch and we were hungry. We checked Yelp and a local place with great reviews popped up and it was right in the same parking lot. We walked into the Crooked Spoon and were sat immediately. The place was decently busy for the early lunch hour. Seemed to be a mix of people eating lunch or getting brunch. We saw some mimosas that looked good. Crooked Spoon was started as a food truck and grew into the brick and mortar that it is now. A gastropub to the definition, offering up unique craft brews and restaurant quality food. My wife and I both stuck with waters since we had a long drive back to Tampa but we were looking forward to the food. The menu on a daily basis is mostly burgers and sandwiches. There were a couple entrees, salads and appetizers to choose from as well. If you follow their Facebook page, you'll see they often do special menus for holidays and have limited offerings that can change daily. Signs that the kitchen is multi-faceted and they actually cook in there. Our server was friendly and prompt. He kept things moving, kept our waters full and made sure all the food turned out good. I ordered the cocoa and coffee burger. This burger was a decent size and was pretty good. I asked for it to be cooked medium but there wasn't one bit of pink left in this burger. I think it was just cooked the same as my wife's, which she ordered medium well. My burger had a little stick in it that said medium but that didn't happen. With the name, I expected this burger to have a unique flavor profile but it didn't. The burger was good but no hints of cocoa or coffee came through. The main taste here was the Boursin cheese, which was garlic and herb. This thick, soft cheese is strong and flavorful so it makes sense that it overpowered the palate. The was also a raspberry chipotle bbq sauce on here but it was lost in the Boursin. Otherwise, the burger was good. It was a decent size, had fresh spring mix and tomato on it and in the end, I was full and satisfied. Just wish the flavors has been more balanced. On the side, I got their house kettle chips. I upgraded them to have the bleu cheese topping on them. This was good. The sharp, salty cheese is known for its smell but good flavor and it topped chips well. My wife ordered the Crooked Spoon burger. This was the same size as mine, hers was cooked medium-well and was covered with Swiss cheese, an onion marmalade and chipotle ailoi. My wife enjoyed it. She upgraded to the sweet potato fries and these were some of the best I've had at a restaurant. They seemed to be on the sweeter side and had a hint of cinnamon or sugar or something that made them stand out. I'm not sure what all there is to eat and do in Clermont but the Crooked Spoon seems to be a great local spot to get good food and beer. I'd suggest you try this place out!

Pamela H.

Yelp
I love the Crooked Spoon. They have an amazing menu and many items you won't see anywhere else. The servers are long term employees and are fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
We called ahead for a large group of 10 and were seated promptly upon arrival. We got a high-top table which worked for most of us. The server was seasoned and easily able to handle a large group and all the peculiar requests that comes with a multi-generational group. The selection of burger toppings was quite extensive and eclectic. The burgers were cooked as ordered and were "healthy" lean cuts meaning they were a bit dry for me but likely better for my heart. This was a good sized facility with room for larger groups and couples. They also had a full bar. Sorry no photos this time but it was clean and lighting was appropriate for evening dining.

Yelp
I attended Crooked Spoon on a Tuesday night. It was a moderately-packed crowd, but the service was not slow. Although I missed their happy hour, their drinks are very reasonably priced: $6-12. I ordered the So-Co wings. They were very good and fried very well! Although they are very large wings, they were still crisp with great sauce. No ranch, but blue cheese dip is available. Overall, service was good and the food was great. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Elena W.

Yelp
I would like to start positively by saying I loved the restaurant facility/decor and the fact they had an outdoor patio was wonderful, love the drink selection I ordered something called (baby Jesus) it was a great drink that had hence of peanut butter. The downside was their prices were outrageous! I paid 20$ for a salad that was even that good! We did have a mix-up with my husband Burger. But they did fix it relatively fast.
google avatar

Yelp
We come here a lot, but this last visit was a disappointment, The server was grumpy and just in need of some training. There were seven of us, and three of us just didn't think it was as good as usual. My husband had soup that was cold and he asked to have it replaced. The server was not very gracious and made it seem like a real bad in the a**. When it came back you could tell it was the same bowl and not even wiped off where it had been poured out. He never did eat it. I had chicken and waffles and it was average. For the price the portion was small. Our daughter had a cheeseburger and it just wasn't as good as usual. Not sure we will go back again.

Justin S.

Yelp
A nice place for lunch- was heading into Minneola and saw this restaurant and thought to give it a try. Outside seating had a nice patio and our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. food tasted fresh.

Carla R.

Yelp
Everyone in our group loved their sandwich. The service was fast and friendly. Also, they have a happy hour

Yelp
The Crooked Spoon has to be one of our favorite date night spots since moving to Clermont. We go probably once a month, we always have great service and this last time we got the same server from our last visit and she remembered us. We love the specialty menu that they switch out two times a day and usually go with something from that menu. But the regular menu always has great options. I don't think I've ever gone with the same thing twice since dining here, every time I get something new. We are never disappointed. We never get a chance to try out dessert because we are always so full from the apps in entrees. Highly recommend!!! Our next visit will most likely be to check out their brunch that we have yet to try.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try The Crooked Spoon and I'm so glad that we did. We were in the area and decided to have a late lunch. We sat at the bar with Shirley, the service was great and the food was incredible. We got the cheese fondue appetizer, pastrami sandwich, and the Cuban Reuben to eat and I can't pick a favorite. They were all phenomenal. Also, I know it seems like such a small thing, but the bathrooms smelled nice so that was another plus for me. Overall, we loved everything and we'll definitely be back.
