Ok this is how I would describe the vibe here: Imagine you are 10 years old, coming home after school, and for some reason your parents couldn't come to pick you up. Instead, they tell you to go to your quirky neighbor aunty's house and wait for them. She let's you in, pulls up a chair for you in the kitchen, and fixes you a plate with a smile.
If you have never had Sri Lankan food before, this place will offer a good introduction. This is a pop up shop with a set menu, so you will get to try rice and a few vegetarian and meat curries, along with a chutney and sambol. It is a small intimate setting. Reservations required.
However, if you are accustomed to Sri Lankan or other South Asian food, you will likely be disappointed. The food tasted very bland and one-note. The seasoning seemed a bit off. All food is made ahead and kept warm so it didn't have the fresh-off-the-stove taste. The recipes were not authentic (for example, the "black pork" was just a regular red pork curry). The dishes were simple (rice, lentils, chicken etc.) so the high price ($25 per person) did not seem justified, especially because you had to pay extra for drinks, appetizers, and even the flat bread (so expect to spend closer to $40 per person). Unfortunately, they were also out of the beverages we wanted to try.
Overall, we walked away disappointed. This seems like a business with potential and character, and hope it can improve in the future.
